Re: [LegacyUG] Spacing problems

2012-12-15 Thread Ward Walker
Pat,

Regarding your second spacing problem...

Automatic word wrapping will usually ignore extra spaces at the location where
it is trying to wrap to a new line. The text editor that you are using might
even be discarding your extra space, or it might be placing it at the end of
the previous line. In any case, if you want to force an indent of a line, you
will need to insert an explicit carriage return at the start, such that the
line always starts there (and the previous words may or may not fill out a full
line). You must consider automatic word wrapping both in your text editor where
you are creating the words, and in the output report, which could have a very
different line length.

If you want extra spaces between two words in the middle of a paragraph, then
consider a couple of options. One is to use a tab instead of a space. Another
is to use several non-breaking spaces (Shift-spacebar). The non-breaking spaces
are like a visible word: they won’t be removed and an automatic line break will
not fall in the middle of them. However, the line break can still fall at the
end of them, depending on the line length. (At least that’s the case in this
Windows Live Mail text editor.) Experiment.

Subject: [LegacyUG] BRAND NEW - NEVER BEFORE ENCOUNTERED PROBLEM!! -- Spacing
problem in .pdfs

Has anyone ever had this problem with words being run together in a .pdf??
I recently created my umpteenth ancestor report (this one of c 150pp incl
source citations).

I'll italicize the words Legacy/Adobe has run together:

This from the General Notes:
 . . . wrote of his
grandmotherMcConell that when he saw her she was an
old but even thena pretty blond vivacious lady of many
words, most of whichhe 'does not now remember.' He
has 'a picture of her incolor taken many years before'
the time he saw her, 'butafter she was mature, showing
her to have been a beautifulwoman.'
'She inherited from both her parents great vitality and
astrong personality. She always was, and so remained
duringher entire life, a Beatie, never fully integrating
herselfwith the McConnells.'

Here's the spacing in the original

wrote of his
grandmother McConell that when he saw her she
was an old but even then a pretty blond vivacious
lady of many words, most of which he does not
now remember. He has a picture of her in color
taken many years before the time he saw her, but
after she was mature, showing her to have been a
beautiful woman.

She inherited from both her parents great vitality
and a strong personality. She always was, and so
remained during her entire life, a Beatie, never fully
integrating herself with the McConnells.

I have a similar problem with Event Notes (but not I think, with other parts of
the events. The problem with notes (general, research, and event) seems to
continue throughout the report.

I didn't see a problem with source citations except with a section that was a
quote from the Text of Source box. But I admit I didn't check
the citations at all carefully!!

I've never had a problem like this before, but for the last few weeks, I've had
another spacing problem in Legacy. For one reason or another I've wanted to
add a space at the beginning of a line in the notes, but when I put my cursor
at the beginning of the line and press the space bar, nothing happens.

For example, on the line which reads beautiful woman. (at the end of the
first paragraph in the quotation above), If I press the space bar in front of
beautiful, nothing happens. I can type a followed by a space in front of
beautiful and that works fine. Or if the line is totally blank, the spacebar
works fine.

Should I just re-download and re-install Legacy? If not, what should I do?
Perhaps I should just contact Technical Support.??

Thanks,
Pat

Re: [LegacyUG] Spacing problems

2012-12-15 Thread Pat Hickin
Hi, Ward,

Well, I've not previously (before c 3 weeks ago) encountered the problem.

I don't have any problem with words/spaces in the middle of the line; it's
just in the first space and it makes no difference how long the line is.

I'm not sure I understood precisely what you meant. But I have
experimented as you suggest and if I first do a carriage return, and then a
backspace to bring everything back to the original position, the spacebar
works just fine.

Thanks for your help!

Legacy 7.5 file with the LFS process and have noticed a change in the past day
or two.

When I pull up my Legacy person and go to the Family reltionship section I
see
date of person (big space) Charlot (have run out of
space to show more)

On the LFS side one sees
date of person Charlotte Tripcony (no problem)

I think someone involved with this part of the program (maybe Luc) could take
a look at this and let me know if it is something I am doing incorrrectly or
does this need a little tweeking.

  Thanks

  Joyce
