Free: Empty Mac mini Box

2015-07-16 Thread David Thornton
I've got the box from a G4 first generation Mac mini that is in pretty much
perfect shape. Has the styrofoam inserts inside (but no computer!) It's not
big nor heavy, but I'd ship it in a USPS Priority Mail Medium box. Pay the
$11.30 it would cost me to mail it anywhere in the US (or to an APO/FPO
address) and it's yours.

2014-03-07 Thread David Thornton
I recently upgraded memory in two MacBooks, and have three sticks of
memory that might be of interest to someone:

2 2GB DDR3 1333 PC3-10600 204 pin SO-DIMMs from a MacBookPro8,1 (2011

$15 for the pair, or $10 each if sold separately. Shipping to the lower-48
states included.

1 1GB PC2-6400 DDR2 800MHz 200 pin SO-DIMM from a white MacBook5,2.
Should work in MacBook1,1, MacBook2,1, MacBook3,1, MacBook4,1,MacBook5,1,

FS: PowerBook Wallstreet G3: $40 or offer

2013-03-03 Thread David Thornton
PowerBook G3 Series (Wallstreet). 233MHz G3, 256MB, 40GB 5400RPM hard drive
(partitioned to 8GB boot drive/~30GB 2nd partition). Comes with a 45 watt
hockey puck power supply, CD-ROM module, and original disks &
troubleshooting manual. No battery (unless you'd like a couple of dead ones
thrown in.) Screen is nice & bright, keyboard works fine (although looks
like the center is a little high on the front) and the trackpad works as it
should. Lid hinge is a little loose, but not terribly so, and it has a few
cosmetic scratches here & there. It was used by my daughter through her
undergrad years, now she's rocking a MacBook, and this one is ready for a
new home. All packed & ready to roll.

I had this up for sale a while back & had an interested party, but he was a
no-show when it came to payment. Looking for $40 plus shipping, but offers
are welcome. This thing really deserves to be used instead of sitting on my
shelf.

Thanks!

FS: 15" Aluminum PowerBook Parts

2012-02-10 Thread David Thornton
Time for another post; a few items have sold but I'd like to
clear my desk drawer of the remainder of the parts from my
dearly departed 15" PowerBook G4.

Prices have been further reduced, but keep in mind they are
*asking* prices; if you're interested in something but think
my pricing is off, please make an offer (never hurts to ask!)
Buying multiple items is always a great idea to get me in a
dealing mood too! If you want photos of anything listed, just
say the word.

The computer is a 15" G4 PowerBook, 1.5GHz, Model No. A1106.

All prices listed include shipping to anywhere in the lower-48
states; will consider shipping outside the contiguous states,
but at additional cost. Payment is best handled through PayPal
(check with me for address) but will consider other forms of
payment as well (or interesting trades, at my discretion.)

-

1. CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive (Matshita CD-RW CW-8123) -- $20.00

2. AirPort Extreme Card -- $ 15.00

3. Apple 65 watt AC Adapter, ~ 1 yr old, very good
condition -- $30

4. Auto Power Adapter -- MCE APPL-411 Auto Power Adaptor,
bought from OWC when the computer was new. Used little,
but works great -- $15.00

5. Top lid with LCD Screen and hinges -- $65.00. Hinges are nice
& tight, no wobble. No dead pixels, but with light background
colors it looks like some slightly dark smudges near the right
edge, very minor, and does not appear to be an electronic issue,
only cosmetic (can provide a photo if you like.)

6. Original box (in decent but dusty shape) with original packing
and some of the original collateral items -- $15

7. The rest of the stuff, including case bottom, fans and heatsink
assembly, Cardbus adapter tray, modem module, speakers & wire
harness, ambient light sensors, screws, connectors & ribbons,
etc... -- $11.50 (basically free; the $11.50 is for the USPS
Flat Rate box)

I'm pretty sure that's everything that's left; if you're even remotely
interested in any of the items, please make me an offer.

WTB - A1185 Battery For White MacBook

2011-12-27 Thread David Thornton
My daughter's battery is starting to flake out & needs a newer one. Let me
know what you have. Looking to spend around $50 (shipped to 57105); hoping
to get one that holds a decent charge and doesn't have too many cycles on
it.

Must be the genuine Apple article, or maybe a NewerTech battery; I've tried
the aftermarket Chinese batteries, and no thanks. You definitely get what
you pay for.

PayPal works best for me (but I'm flexible.)

Thanks!

FS - Parting Out 15" Aluminum PowerBook

2011-10-26 Thread David Thornton
I've given up on my once-trusted 15" PowerBook G4 -- logic board/onboard
video is dead -- and am offering up the good parts to offset somewhat the
cost of my new MacBook.

I purchased the computer new in April, 2005, and it has been in pretty much
daily use since then. It's been taken care of well, but with six years of
use, it does have some cosmetic issues. If it weren't for the logic board
issue, I would've continued to use it, but this one is a showstopper (plus
I'm loving the MacBook!)

All prices listed include shipping to anywhere in the lower-48 states; will
consider shipping outside the contiguous states, but at additional cost.
Payment is best handled through PayPal (check with me for address) but will
consider other forms of payment as well (or interesting trades, at my
discretion.) If a price seems high to you, shoot me an offer; I'm a
reasonable guy.

1. CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive (Matshita CD-RW CW-8123) -- $25.00

2. AirPort Extreme Card -- $ 25.00

3. NuPower 56 watt-hour battery (from macsales.com) ~1 yr. old,
gives a good 3-4 hours runtime. -- $40.00

4. Newer Technology 65 watt AC Adapter -- $25.00
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/APLPBI65W/

5. Apple 65 watt AC Adapter, ~ 1 yr old, no cord issues -- $40

bought from OWC when the computer was new. Used little,
but works great -- $25.00

7. 2-1GB 200-pin DDR PC2700 333MHz SODIMMs -- $25 each or $40 for both

8. Top lid with LCD Screen and hinges -- $75.00. Hinges are nice
& tight, no wobble. No dead pixels, but with light background
colors it looks like some slightly dark smudges near the right
edge, very minor, and does not appear to be an electronic issue,
only cosmetic (can provide a photo if you like.)

Imation SuperDisk Drive

2011-10-14 Thread David Thornton
The SuperDisk will read/write to 1.44MB floppy disks and 120MB Imation
SuperDisk floppies via a USB interface. Would work great to keep using your
1.44MB floppy disks, or if you've got an aging SuperDisk and want a backup.
It matches the translucent white/silver and blue/green of the original iMacs
very nicely; I don't have a camera handy, but it looks exactly like the one
pictured here...

Tested on a 10.5.8 MacPro and a 10.6.8 MacBook Pro; mounted and reformatted
a 15 year old floppy disk with no drivers and no fuss. Was unable to
successfully test a SuperDisk because the one disk I have wouldn't mount or
format successfully. Disk Utility did recognize the original name on the
disk though, which is something, and points to the disk as the likely
failure point (they were known for being a bit flakey.)

Includes the drive, USB connector cable and original power brick.

How does $15 shipped anywhere in the continental US sound? Offers?

Thanks!

FS: PowerBook Wallstreet And Accessories -- Price Cut

2011-03-15 Thread David Thornton
No bites on this bunch; if you're at all interested in
anything I have listed but my price is too high, please
make an offer.

I upgraded my wife's kitchen computer to a MacBook, so I've
got the following items for sale. Photos of some of the
items can be seen at
http://www.davintosh.com/images/powerbook_g3/powerbook_g3.html

1. PowerBook Wallstreet (m4753) G3 266MHz 256MB Memory,
upgraded 5400 rpm 60GB HD (partitioned ~8/~30). In very
nice shape. It has the typical scuffs & scratches on
the exterior, all keys & trackpad work as they ought,
screen is bright with no scuffing from the keys. Port
cover on the back is intact and in working order. Also
comes with original installer disk set and 45-watt yoyo-
style power adapter. Comes with CD-ROM drive module, but
unfortunately no working battery. -- $65

2. Floppy Drive Expansion Bay Module for Wallstreet -- $12

3. NewerTech BookEndz Docking Station for the Wally.
Replicates all the ports on the back of the Wallstreet
to allow easy in & out. Also converts the weird
PowerBook SCSI port to a standard 25-pin D-type SCSI
port. Nice condition. -- $20

4. Three dead Wallstreet batteries. Free for cost of
shipping, or can throw in with any of the above items.

5. Two Lucent WaveLAN Turbo Silver wireless cards and one
Linksys WPC54GS card. I know for a fact that the Linksys
will work under OS 10.2 in the Wally, but I'm not sure
about the WaveLANs. $12 for the three.

All prices include shipping to addresses in the lower 48
states. If you want something, make me an offer. Takes a
lot for me to be insulted. ;o)

Thanks!

scratches or marring that I can see, and works perfectly
with the exception of the battery, which will not hold a
charge. Comes with a stylus, AC power adapter and full set
of manuals (manual is huge; weighs about as much as the
eMate!) Very neat little bit of Apple history.

$65 shipped anywhere in the lower 48 states. I can provide
photos if you like; just ask.

Thanks!

FS: PowerBook Wallstreet And Accessories

2011-03-06 Thread David Thornton
Upgraded my wife's kitchen computer to a MacBook, so I've
got the following items for sale. Photos of some of the
items can be seen at
http://www.davintosh.com/images/powerbook_g3/powerbook_g3.html
I posted this stuff a while back; some items have sold, but
the rest still need to go. As always, I'm open to offers;
nothing is worth any more than one of you is willing to pay
for it!

1. PowerBook Wallstreet (m4753) G3 266MHz 256MB Memory,
upgraded 5400 rpm 60GB HD (partitioned ~8/~30). In very
nice shape. It has the typical scuffs & scratches on
the exterior, all keys & trackpad work as they ought,
screen is bright with no scuffing from the keys. Port
cover on the back is intact and in working order. Also
comes with original installer disk set and 45-watt yoyo-
style power adapter. Comes with CD-ROM drive module, but
unfortunately no working battery. -- $75

2. Floppy Drive Expansion Bay Module for Wallstreet -- $15

3. NewerTech BookEndz Docking Station for the Wally.
Replicates all the ports on the back of the Wallstreet
to allow easy in & out. Also converts the weird
PowerBook SCSI port to a standard 25-pin D-type SCSI
port. Nice condition. -- $25

$15 for the three.

All prices include shipping to addresses in the lower 48
states. If you want something, make me an offer. Takes a
lot for me to be insulted. ;o)

Thanks!

WTB: MacAlly iKey Keyboard

2011-02-20 Thread David Thornton
Looking for a discontinued MacAlly iKey Keyboard, like the one featured in
this LowEndMac article...
http://lowendmac.com/usb/ikey.shtml

One of the typesetters in our graphics department is *very* particular about
the kind of keyboard she uses, and has been using one of these for the eight
years she's been with the company. It still works, but has been giving
intermittent issues, and we've been unable to find another like it. If you
have one gathering dust but is still in good condition, let me know what it
would take to convince you to send it to me!

Thanks!

WTB: 13" MacBook Stuff

2011-01-06 Thread David Thornton
I bought a slightly distressed MacBook (Model 5.2, White Pre-Unibody) for
cheap, and it's needing a few things...

1. Battery (working is good),

2. Optical Drive (Combo or SuperDrive, but must be the super-slim
unit to fit inside the MacBook),

3. All of the mounting bits for the hard drive
(I believe there is an EMI shield and four Torx pegs
   that screw into the sides.)

Let me know what you have and your asking price, including shipping to
57105.

Thanks!

FS: Old Software for Free, Ethernet Switches

2009-04-16 Thread David Thornton

Hey all:

I've got a box of old software & stuff under my desk, and it's starting to
get on my nerves. None of it terribly current, but most of it is either very
usable or slightly collectible. I have a tough time throwing these things
out, so I'd be pleased as punch to pass it along to anyone willing to pony
up for the postage to have it shipped to you.

* Aldus Freehand 4.0, installer diskettes, manuals, retail box, etc...
* Avid VideoShop 3.0, installer CD, manual, quick reference card (no box)
* Adobe Photoshop 2.0, installer diskettes, manuals, 2.5 updater diskettes,
etc... In non-retail mailer box.
* Adobe Illustrator 5 Upgrade box, installer diskettes, manuals, etc...

All of these are fairly early versions of the apps, and will work on most
early Macs running System 6 or 7. I can't provide license numbers for any of
them as they've been used for upgrades, so that's up to the buyer if you
plan on using the software.

I've also got a Macintosh User's Guide, a Getting Started With Your
Macintosh guide and an At Ease Setup Guide, all from the System 6 days. All
are in decent shape.

One last item; a retail box of Apple High-Density Disks; all the disks are
used and have labels attached to them, and have been written on. The box is
in ok shape; a little moisture staining on the front and a little crinkle
here & there, but the color is good on it.

No idea if any of this is of interest to you or what it's worth. The
software packages are kinda heavy and might add a bit to the shipping cost
if you'd like to get them along with the OS boxes.

Also taking up space, collecting dust, and getting kicked way too often is a
box of unused networking stuff with a couple of items that might be worth
something to someone:

One NetGear ProSafe FS116 16-port 10/100 ethernet switch. Metal
case. Lightly used, very good working & cosmetic condition. A
few years old, but it's a good solid piece of equipment. $10,
plus shipping.

One Asante FriendlyNet 10baseT 5-port ethernet hub. Metal case,
works well enough for a 10Mb hub. Free, you pay shipping.

For payment, PayPal works best, but I'll also accept a money order if that's
an issue for you.

Thanks!

FS: eMac Parts

2008-12-08 Thread David Thornton

Hey All:

I've got a 1GHz eMac with a video problem that's going to the recycler, but
thought that there might be some parts that would be useful to someone, so
I'm parting it out (always did like taking stuff apart!) I've already reused
the hard drive, the battery and the memory stick.

Here's a partial list of what's available...

1GHz Logic Board, with Metal Frame, Drive Brackets & RF Shield.
Speakers
Speaker Grilles
Optical Drive Door
Wide-Head Case Screws
Plastic Case Back
Plastic Case Front
CD-ROM drive
Anything else that might still be usable that you can think of and is still
there.
Let me know what you're interested in, and you can have it for the cost of
shipping from 57105 (plus a little for my time.)

Thanks!

FS: PowerBook G3 Lombard 400MHz -- Price Cut

2008-10-15 Thread David Thornton

PowerBook Lombard, 400MHz G3, 256MB RAM (2-128's), 20GB HD, DVD-ROM/CD-ROM.
Very nice physical condition, bright screen with no dead pixels, and a
battery that lasts 1.5-2 hours. Includes a round 45W power adapter.

It's currently running OS 9; I bought it in August for my daughter to use in
college, but had trouble getting OS X installed on it. It would lock up
during the install process, and if I installed OS X on the HD with another
machine, the Lombard would lock up after about 20 minutes of use in OS X.
After doing some research and asking around about the issue, it appears that
the trouble is most likely with the L2 Cache on the processor board, but I
don't have a second known-good processor to test it with, and I'm not
inclined to spend more on it.

That said, it does run OS 9 just fine -- apparently OS 9 is more tolerant
about the issue with the L2 cache than OS X. In the last week I've run
various Classic apps on it for hours -- iTunes, MS Office, Filemaker, etc...
And my kids put several hours of game time on it this last weekend with some
their favorite old Mac toys; nary a hiccup (will leave the shareware games
on the drive for you to enjoy!) So this would make a great machine for
someone who needs a nice laptop for running Classic apps, or for someone
with a good processor sitting around looking for a home.

Asking $80 or best offer, plus actual shipping costs from 57105. Please, no
lowball offers; this really is a nice machine. PayPal works best.

PowerBook Lombard, 400MHz G3, 256MB RAM, 20GB HD, DVD/CD-ROM. Very nice
physical condition, bright screen with no dead pixels. (the Lombard has two
built-in USB ports, a SCSI port, but no firewire.)

So this would make a great
machine for someone who needs a nice laptop for running Classic apps, or for
someone with a good processor sitting around looking for a home.

Asking $100, shipped anywhere in the lower 48, but would be open to a
reasonable offer. PayPal works best.

WTB: 1st Gen iPod Main Board

2008-09-07 Thread David Thornton

Hey:

I've got a 1st Gen iPod that works great, but the headphone jack is
seriously hosed. I've had it apart, and there doesn't seem to be a way to
repair or replace the jack without some serious micro-soldering, so I'm
looking for a replacement board for it. So if you've got a dead 1st Gen iPod
with battery, drive or screen issues, I'd like to talk.

Let me know what you've got and what you'd like to get for it, shipped to
57105.

Thanks!
