 {{{
 Release 2.3.0 Thu March 25 2021
 Bug fixes:
#438 When calling XML_ParseBuffer without a prior successful
 call to
XML_GetBuffer as a user, no longer trigger undefined
 behavior
(by adding an integer to a NULL pointer) but rather
 return
XML_STATUS_ERROR and set the error code to (new) code
 XML_ERROR_NO_BUFFER. Found by UBSan
 (UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer)
of Clang 11 (but not Clang 9).
#444 xmlwf: Exit status 2 was used for both:
 - malformed input files (documented) and
 - invalid command-line arguments (undocumented).
The case of invalid command-line arguments now
has its own exit status 4, resolving the ambiguity.

 Other changes:
#439 xmlwf: Add argument -k to allow continuing after
 non-fatal errors
#439 xmlwf: Add section about exit status to the -h help
 output
#422 #426 #447 Windows: Drop support for Visual Studio <=14.0/2015
#434 Windows: CMake: Detect unsupported Visual Studio at
configure time (rather than at compile time)
#382 #428 testrunner: Make verbose mode (argument "-v") report
about passed tests, and make default mode report about
 failures, as well.
#442 CMake: Call "enable_language(CXX)" prior to tinkering
 with CMAKE_CXX_* variables
#448 Document use of libexpat from a CMake-based project
#451 Autotools: Install CMake files as generated by CMake
 3.19.6
so that users with "find_package(expat [..] CONFIG
 [..])"
are served on distributions that are *not* using the
 CMake
build system inside for libexpat packaging
#436 #437 Autotools: Drop obsolescent macro AC_HEADER_STDC
#450 #452 Autotools: Resolve use of obsolete macro
 AC_CONFIG_HEADER
 #441 Address compiler warnings
#443 Version info bumped from 7:12:6 to 8:0:7
due to addition of error code XML_ERROR_NO_BUFFER
(see https://verbump.de/ for what these numbers do)

 Infrastructure:
#435 #446 Replace Travis CI by GitHub Actions

 {{{
OpenSSL Security Advisory [25 March 2021]
 =

CA certificate check bypass with X509_V_FLAG_X509_STRICT (CVE-2021-3450)

 Severity: High

The X509_V_FLAG_X509_STRICT flag enables additional security checks of the
certificates present in a certificate chain. It is not set by default.

Starting from OpenSSL version 1.1.1h a check to disallow certificates in
the chain that have explicitly encoded elliptic curve parameters was added
 as an additional strict check.

An error in the implementation of this check meant that the result of a
previous check to confirm that certificates in the chain are valid CA
certificates was overwritten. This effectively bypasses the check
that non-CA certificates must not be able to issue other certificates.

If a "purpose" has been configured then there is a subsequent opportunity
for checks that the certificate is a valid CA. All of the named "purpose"
values implemented in libcrypto perform this check. Therefore, where
a purpose is set the certificate chain will still be rejected even when
 the
strict flag has been used. A purpose is set by default in libssl client
 and
server certificate verification routines, but it can be overridden or
 removed by an application.

In order to be affected, an application must explicitly set the
X509_V_FLAG_X509_STRICT verification flag and either not set a purpose
for the certificate verification or, in the case of TLS client or server
 applications, override the default purpose.

OpenSSL versions 1.1.1h and newer are affected by this issue. Users of
 these
versions should upgrade to OpenSSL 1.1.1k.

OpenSSL 1.0.2 is not impacted by this issue.

This issue was reported to OpenSSL on 18th March 2021 by Benjamin Kaduk
from Akamai and was discovered by Xiang Ding and others at Akamai. The fix
 was
 developed by Tomáš Mráz.

NULL pointer deref in signature_algorithms processing (CVE-2021-3449)
 =

 Severity: High

An OpenSSL TLS server may crash if sent a maliciously crafted
 renegotiation
ClientHello message from a client. If a TLSv1.2 renegotiation ClientHello
 omits
the signature_algorithms extension (where it was present in the initial
ClientHello), but includes a signature_algorithms_cert extension then a
 NULL
pointer dereference will result, leading to a crash and a denial of
 service
 attack.

A server is only vulnerable if it has TLSv1.2 and renegotiation enabled
 (which
is the default configuration). OpenSSL TLS clients are not impacted by
 this
 issue.

All OpenSSL 1.1.1 versions are affected by this issue. Users of these
 versions
 should upgrade to OpenSSL 1.1.1k.

OpenSSL 1.0.2 is not impacted by this issue.

This issue was reported to OpenSSL on 17th March 2021 by Nokia. The fix
 was
developed by Peter Kästle and Samuel Sapalski from Nokia.

 Note

OpenSSL 1.0.2 is out of support and no longer receiving public updates.
 Extended
support is available for premium support customers:
 https://www.openssl.org/support/contracts.html

OpenSSL 1.1.0 is out of support and no longer receiving updates of any
 kind.
The impact of these issues on OpenSSL 1.1.0 has not been analysed.

Users of these versions should upgrade to OpenSSL 1.1.1.

 {{{
Changes between 1.1.1j and 1.1.1k [xx XXX ]

Fixed a problem with verifying a certificate chain when using the
X509_V_FLAG_X509_STRICT flag. This flag enables additional security checks
of the certificates present in a certificate chain. It is not set by
 default.

Starting from OpenSSL version 1.1.1h a check to disallow certificates
in the chain that have explicitly encoded elliptic curve parameters was
added as an additional strict check.

An error in the implementation of this check meant that the result of
a previous check to confirm that certificates in the chain are valid CA
certificates was overwritten. This effectively bypasses the check that
non-CA certificates must not be able to issue other certificates.

If a "purpose" has been configured then there is a subsequent
opportunity for checks that the certificate is a valid CA. All of the
named "purpose" values implemented in libcrypto perform this check.
Therefore, where a purpose is set the certificate chain will still be
rejected even when the strict flag has been used. A purpose is set by
default in libssl client and server certificate verification routines, but
it can be overridden or removed by an application.

In order to be affected, an application must explicitly set the
X509_V_FLAG_X509_STRICT verification flag and either not set a purpose for
the certificate verification or, in the case of TLS client or server
applications, override the default purpose. ([CVE-2021-3450])

 Tomáš Mráz

Fixed an issue where an OpenSSL TLS server may crash if sent a
maliciously crafted renegotiation ClientHello message from a client. If a
TLSv1.2 renegotiation ClientHello omits the signature_algorithms extension
(where it was present in the initial ClientHello), but includes a
signature_algorithms_cert extension then a NULL pointer dereference will
result, leading to a crash and a denial of service attack.

A server is only vulnerable if it has TLSv1.2 and renegotiation
enabled (which is the default configuration). OpenSSL TLS clients are not
 impacted by this issue. ([CVE-2021-3449])

 Release Notes for 2.49 2021-03-13 16:26:47 -0800

 * Implement cap_func_launcher() and cap.FuncLauncher().
 * Modified the internals of "cap" to allow cap.SetProc() and friends from
within the launcher callback function. Prior to this release, such
 calls
would deadlock. Updated the docs to explain this new freedom.
 * More robust "psx" redirection for nocgo compilation - the documentation
 for
the cgo implementation is now included in the nocgo one because the
 go.dev
automated documentation builds the docs from the nocgo version.
 * Lots of documentation cleanups and added a few man pages: for IAB and
 Launching.

 * A little Makefile manipulation to:
   - better use musl when requested (ie., with cgo compilation)
   - execute kernel tests on demand that don't require human interaction
 to closed the QEMU terminal
   - Some general no-op License changes that might cause folk to notice
but only for formatting reasons. These were initially inspired by
some lawyerly interactions, but I ended up rolling back half of them
because they confused automated software infrastructure.

Noteworthy changes in release 3.7.6 (2021-03-08) [stable]

 Bug fixes

 * Reused Push Parsers

When a push-parser state structure is used for multiple parses, it was
possible for some state to leak from one run into the following one.

 * Fix Table Generation

In some very rare conditions, when there are many useless tokens, it was
   possible to generate incorrect parsers.

Comment (by bdubbs):

 # 3.3.3

This is a production release with one tweak and fixes for manuals.

The tweak is that `length(0)` returns `1` instead of `0`. In `3.3.1`, I
 changed
it so `length(0.x)`, where `x` could be any number of digits, returned the
 `scale`, but `length(0)` still returned `0` because I believe that `0` has
 `0`
 significant digits.

After request of FreeBSD and considering the arguments of a mathematician,
compatibility with other `bc`'s, and the expectations of users, I decided
 to
 make the change.

The fixes for manuals fixed a bug where `--` was rendered as `-`.

Comment (by bdubbs):

 # 3.3.0

This is a production release that changes one behavior and fixes
 documentation
 bugs.

The changed behavior is the treatment of `-e` and `-f` when given through
`BC_ENV_ARGS` or `DC_ENV_ARGS`. Now `bc` and `dc` do not exit when those
 options
(or their equivalents) are given through those environment variables.
 However,
`bc` and `dc` still exit when they or their equivalents are given on the
 command-line.

As ken mentioned in this email:
 dev/2021-February/074209.html]

There is a bug in glibc that prevents chrooted applications, such as
Unbound, from functioning properly. The glibc bug report is:

 The patch is here:

I think that can be made into a sed. I'll investigate

 Integer overflow in CipherUpdate (CVE-2021-23840)
 =

 Severity: Low

 Calls to EVP_CipherUpdate, EVP_EncryptUpdate and EVP_DecryptUpdate may
 overflow
the output length argument in some cases where the input length is close
 to the
maximum permissable length for an integer on the platform. In such cases
 the
return value from the function call will be 1 (indicating success), but
 the
output length value will be negative. This could cause applications to
 behave
 incorrectly or crash.

OpenSSL versions 1.1.1i and below are affected by this issue. Users of
 these
versions should upgrade to OpenSSL 1.1.1j.

OpenSSL versions 1.0.2x and below are affected by this issue. However

 upgrade
 to 1.1.1j.

This issue was reported to OpenSSL on 13th December 2020 by Paul Kehrer.
 The fix
 was developed by Matt Caswell.

 {{{
OpenSSL Security Advisory [16 February 2021]

Null pointer deref in X509_issuer_and_serial_hash() (CVE-2021-23841)

 Severity: Moderate

The OpenSSL public API function X509_issuer_and_serial_hash() attempts to
create a unique hash value based on the issuer and serial number data
 contained
within an X509 certificate. However it fails to correctly handle any
 errors
that may occur while parsing the issuer field (which might occur if the
 issuer
field is maliciously constructed). This may subsequently result in a NULL
pointer deref and a crash leading to a potential denial of service attack.

The function X509_issuer_and_serial_hash() is never directly called by
 OpenSSL
itself so applications are only vulnerable if they use this function
 directly
and they use it on certificates that may have been obtained from untrusted
 sources.

OpenSSL versions 1.1.1i and below are affected by this issue. Users of
 these
versions should upgrade to OpenSSL 1.1.1j.

OpenSSL versions 1.0.2x and below are affected by this issue. However

As far as jhalfs is concerned, there is no problem with the repackage. It
may confuse users, though. Actually, upstream is aware of the problem: see
 thread at https://www.freelists.org/post/procps/procpsng-3317-released,1

Comment (by bdubbs):

It turns out that the package IS on gitlab, but the html source changed
and the script didn't handle it properly. I've fixed the currency script.
 The repackage issue remains.

Comment (by bdubbs):

The reason this was not picked up by the currency scripts is that it is
 not available at https://gitlab.com/procps-ng/procps/-/tags. Only
 v3.3.17rc1 is there.

 It is available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/procps-
 ng/files/Production/procps-ng-3.3.17.tar.xz

This tarball expands to the directory procps-3.3.17, not the expected
 procps-ng-3.3.17.

Should I repackage it and load on anduin?
