[lfs-support] LFS with PAM

2014-12-04 Thread Tim Tassonis
Hi all

I'm now just building my second LFS 7.6 system where I decided to
integrate PAM into the build, to not having to install shadow and libcap
twice in order for PAM to work.

My order, diverting from the book, was:
- ncurses (same)
- attr (same)
- acl (same)
- pam (new)
- sed (new)
- libcap (new)
- shadow (new)
- psmisc (old)

This got me into an error because PAM requires flex, which is not yet
installed. So I moved flex before pam and that seemed to work fine.

My question now is: shall a rebuild flex at the usual stage after m4
again? Does the flex build then change because of some optional
dependency on flex?

Kind regards
Tim

Thanks a lot, I guess the blfs instruction should work, they differ to
the lfs instructions mainly by ensuring that pam is used and in the case
of shadow, install all the neccessary pam configs.

Kind regards
Tim

Yes, that's what I've been doing for years. If you're going to install
PAM, there's no need to do things the LFS way, then re-install several
packages afterwards.

I can't remember if the BLFS instructions need modifying much (it's been
a long time since I followed the books closely), but it shouldn't be too
hard to make any necessary adaptation...

Simon.

[lfs-support] LFS with PAM

2014-10-06 Thread Tim Tassonis
Hi all

Thanks first for linux from scratch, I finally also built my first linux
from scratch installation.

I've got one question: I'd like to have my systems with PAM support, and
in order to one the very safe side, have followed the book by first
installing lfs without pam and then went to blfs, installed pam and
reinstalled shadow and libcap.

My question for future installation is:

Are there known problems if I integrate pam already in the initial lfs
install, not then having to reinstall shadow and libcap. I would then
change the lfs installation order to:

...
- 6.22. Acl-2.2.52
- 6.23. Linux-PAM-1.1.8
- 6.24. Libcap-2.24 (with instructions from blfs)
- 6.25. Sed-4.2.2
- 6.26. Shadow-4.2.1 (with instructions from blfs)
...

Is this "supported" as well?

Kind regards
Tim
