What's all this hullaballo about encryption? What's the latest in the FBI's
ongoing dispute with Apple over encrypted iPhones? What's at stake? What
could happen next? Find out all this and more at April's
Privacy Lab!
Our Speaker will be Riana Pfefferkorn:
Riana Pfefferkorn is the Cryptography Fellow at the Stanford Center for
Internet and Society. Her work focuses on investigating and analyzing the
U.S. government's policy and practices for forcing decryption and/or
influencing crypto-related design of online platforms and services,
devices, and products, both via technical means and through the courts and
legislatures. Riana also researches the benefits and detriments of strong
encryption on free expression, political engagement, economic development,
and other public interests.
As per Privacy Lab's standard format, Riana will talk for 30 minutes,
followed by a short Q session. Afterwards we will breakout into informal
small group discussions and networking from 7-8pm If you can't make it to
the talks/Q, you are still welcome to join us for the small groups and
networking or vice versa.
Privacy Lab is a meeting for people who are interested in digital privacy
in the Bay Area, and is a follow-up to previous events held at Mozilla and
other spaces for the past year. The goal of these events is to bring
together privacy professionals and privacy community members at
non-profits, for-profits, and NGOs alike to foster communication and
collaboration.
