Re: [liberationtech] InvestigatingTrump.com

2017-02-06 Thread Jay Cafasso
I get enough politics from Facebook. Generalized statements about any
government leader is baloney. A specific issue is one thing. Not having a
common frame of reference i. e. the temporary ban from specific middle east
countries only shows the lack of understanding regarding that topic.

Since you opened the door. The ban is temporary. The vetting issue was
raised by the US DNI, D/FBI, D/CIA during Congressional testimonies during
the Obama presidency. These security people thought a temporary halt so
that the vetting process could be reviewed would be justified.

Why did they say that? Because since 911, 20 immigrants/refugees notably
from Iraq have been arrested by the FBI for conspiracy to commit terrorism.

Of course you do not hear that from the babbling idiots we here in the
States call a free press. I know this because part of my career involved
chemical EOD operations in support of counterterrorism contracted to the US
Government.

If your good at a specific science. Stay there otherwise without a common
frame of reference you'll make a fool of yourself.

I have problems with President Trump and his view of pipelines under major
rivers and his lack of concern for the environment. Otherwise he is and
will be no worse than the last six presidents.

Re: [liberationtech] Report: Messenger apps during humanitarian crises

2017-02-01 Thread Jay Cafasso
Does anyone know how secure Signal is as a messenger app?

In some situations, messaging apps may be the only way that people caught
up in armed conflict or crises can communicate with family, friends or
humanitarian organisations. Many messaging apps have features that could
help humanitarian organisations to reach people who would otherwise be
impossible to contact, or to collect information that would otherwise be
inaccessible. This information can save lives.

Some humanitarian organisations have already started using messaging apps
to communicate with people and coordinate their activities – and many
others are thinking about it. But there’s still a lot that we don’t know.

How and why are people affected by crises or armed conflict actually using
messaging apps? When and how is it appropriate to introduce a new
technology that not everyone will be able to access? Could communicating
with people through these communication channels put them at greater risk?

Re: [liberationtech] Price of the #MuslimBan

2017-01-31 Thread Jay Cafasso
I am reading all the posts and trying to understand why most are going off
topic for what this listserv was meant for?

I am also peaked on how many of you who are posting do not understand the
law and/or seem very biased politically. Since you have strayed off topic,
I have to wonder where everyone has been with last five presidents who have
done the same thing with EO? Yes there could have been better execution of
the Trumps EO and yes I believe we made a big mistake after 911 when we
created DHS. However as soon as Secretary Kelly was notified about the
issues he immediately corrected and clarified the order.

While folk believe this is a "Muslim ban". I do not believe such since a
couple of the largest Muslim countries were not part of the ban. Notably
Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. I would like someone to explain to me why any
administration cannot, based on national security revoke either temporarily
or permanently a Visa or Green Card? Forget morally as an answer. While
noble it's a very naive position and belief.

So why are you protesting? And do you have a double standard in your belief
since 90% of you did not even raise the question when the last
administration did the same?

So what are you really protesting?
