Oh, I just was speculating - I have no idea what the actual problem is
and what fdo-Admins are doing. I'm not involved in the freedesktop.org
infrastructure, that lies outside of our control.

Might also be that the hosting is the problem, not the actual server.
But I have no other information than you, I just experience the slow

Same issue had happened to me. I would like an explanation as to why cloning

It's not only cloning, but also pulling.

Explanation is simple: freedesktop.org servers have either load or
bandwidth problems (i.e. problems lies in capacity of the hardware) or
are misconfigured (hardware could perform better, but software makes
the trouble).
But I guess you don't consider this as "explanation" - but just
stating the obvious :-)

I too would like to know where the problem lies.

Initially the bandwith wasn't great to begin with either (around
300kb/s when I did the first clone), but at least when pulling this
didn't matter too much. Also it seems that not only git, but also
bugzilla is a little slower to respond.

Christian if load is an issue why not setup load balancing and put in
more network cards into the server and spread the load across the
network cards. for example

3 pci gigabit network cards and onboard motherboard network card and
load balance between them.

Looks like the clone of the repo either stalled or timed-out or was just
very, very slow. The only alternative is to try again, I guess, unless
someone else has another suggestion.
