As and when there is some code to commit, that is not generally useful
- then we can create such a branch. For the gnumake, build-conditionals,
cross-compiling work it should all happen on master since everyone needs
it.

Similarly, the VCL / android backend can be conditionally compiled on
master too - so I'm not sure what a branch would be good for.

 i am sure until we iron things out there will be lots of breakages that 
 we should keep out of master.

Well - first code; then branches, then working functionality, and then
hype :-)

I agree with the OP that, this task is big enough for a Gsoc project.
