I'm using Windows 7 with libre office. When I type in English it types without
any problem.

When I type in Tamil or even when I copy paste Tamil script from internet
(ta.wikipedia.org) LibreOffice crashes. When I start the libre office again it
invokes the recovery but it has not recovered any of the texts which I typed so
far.

I'm not sure this occures for other Indic languages too. I observed same
behavior in spreadsheet and other applications too.

copied following text from window's crash report

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 40975] New: Add "differentiation" function to Calc

2011-09-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40975

   Summary: Add "differentiation" function to Calc

Status: NEW

 Component: Spreadsheet

Well, I was thinking last night about this feature. And I think it could be
very useful.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numerical_differentiation

It could work *only* on cells with formulaes, in this way:

Supose
A1 = 5
B1 = 6
C1 = 2.5

D1= A1*B1^2*ln(C1) = 164.93

then, one could add de "diff" function

A2 = diff(D1,A1) = 32.99 (becase the result should be the evaluation of
B1^2*ln(C1))

B2 = diff(D1,B1) = 54.98 (because the result should be 2*A1*B1*ln(C1)

and so on...

And it doesn't need to end there, there could be higher order derivatives, for
example

B3 = diff(D1,B1,2) = 9.16 (= 2*A1*ln(C1) )
C3 = diff(D1,C1,3) = 3.84 (2*A1*B1/C1^3)

What do you think? I'm one of those who would like to have this feature a lot.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 40974] New: Reordering slides by dragging is not straightforward

2011-09-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40974

   Summary: Reordering slides by dragging is not straightforward
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.3 release
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Presentation
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: tho...@mitterfellner.at

When I try to drag a slide (in the left pane in normal mode) to a different
position, I get a stop sign (which obviously indicates the slide can't be
dropped) and no animation indicating the new slide position is shown.

However, when I continue dragging the slide outside of the left pane and then
back into the pane, the slide can be inserted, i.e. the dragging cursor changes
when the slide can be inserted and the "insert-here-animation" is shown.

I was using the 3.4.3 x86_64 rpm release as downloaded from libreoffice.org (on
openSUSE 11.4 with java-sun jre1.6.0)
I was told that this behaviour doesn't occur with a .deb x86 release.

ReportedBy: jst...@physics.queensu.ca

If you make a change in the properties of a document in Writer, then the
program does not consider this change as a proper "change" in the document, and
it will not ask you if you want to save the changes to document on closing.
For instance, open a document and press "reset" in the general properties page.

A quick check indicates that this seems to be specific to Writer and not
Spreadsheet or Presentation.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 37540] Highlighted Text becomes colored Background when saved as word 97-2003 doc Format

--- Comment #5 from Romano Giannetti  2011-09-17

To simplify things, I copy here my findings too:

I saved (from MS Word) the file in RTF format. The sequence, highlighted by MS,
which works (you can remove the highlight) is like that:

{\rtlch\fcs1 \af37 \ltrch\fcs0
\lang1033\langfe1025\highlight7\langnp1033\insrsid5522236\charrsid3873419
\hich\af37\dbch\af37\loch\f37
This text has been highlighted with Microsoft Word 2007}

The sequence that you cannot modify is this one:

{\rtlch\fcs1 \af37 \ltrch\fcs0
\lang1033\langfe1025\chshdng0\chcfpat0\chcbpat7\langnp1033\insrsid5522236
\hich\af37\dbch\af37\loch\f37 This text has been modified and highlighted with
O\hich\af37\dbch\af37\loch\f37 penoffice (version 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.1, Ubuntu
Linux 10.04 up-to-date).
}

Note that if I change "\chshdng0\chcfpat0\chcbpat7" to "\highlight7" in the rtf
file, then MS Word can edit it correctly.

The command:

sed 's/\\chcbpat/\\highlight/g' < in.rtf > out.rtf

makes a editable file. Saved my day.

In LO 3.3 and earlier...
if a cell J1 contained a blank "" then was used in a sum (I1+J1)

the result would be I1
i.e. the blank was treated as a zero

in 3.4.3
the result is #Value!

I have dug a bit more into the problem, and the matter is that it seems that OO
(or LO) do not have the duality background-highlighting that MS Word has , so I
suppose the problem is not so easily solved.

I did found a rtf + grep hack to solve the problem, but it's still a bad hack.

More details are in:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/645269

So yes, please solve this. It is a major interoperability problem.

The attached Calc-file has an example of an array formula in E2 involving IF
and OR, which perfectly works with OpenOffice ever since.

Using it with Libreoffice 3.4.3 turned out that the formula always returns the
value TRUE, even if the value in D2 does not match with any value in the array
of A2:A4 oder B2:B4.

This should be fixed as this is a quite often used method to validate data or
generate data values continued to use in other formulas.

Thx for checking!

The below file directory has bitmap files :
/usr/lib/libreoffice/basis3.3/share/template/wizard/bitmap

I noticed that there are also gif files in the same directories with a better
compression ratio.

I think that converting bmp files in gif, png or mng would save space.

Showing Impress erratic behaviour in Slide Sorter view

When trying to copy-move a slide onto another presentation in "slide sorter"
view, it starts to show weird behaviour: shows the former view when returning
to "normal" view, and even crashes the whole suite sometimes.
Attach a .odp showing it in detail.
Thank you!

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 40964] New: menu entries should lower indirections

2011-09-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40964

   Summary: menu entries should lower indirections
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.3.3 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Installation
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: jerome.bo...@wanadoo.fr

With the Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) package, the menu entry description provides the
below command :
---
j@lu64:~$ grep -i exec /usr/share/applications/libreoffice-writer.desktop
Exec=libreoffice -writer %U
Exec=libreoffice -writer %U
j@lu64:~$
---

The above command line is equivalent to the below pseudo instructions :
---
j@lu64:~$ which libreoffice
/usr/bin/libreoffice
j@lu64:~$ file /usr/bin/libreoffice
/usr/bin/libreoffice: POSIX shell script text executable
j@lu64:~$ cat /usr/bin/libreoffice
#!/bin/sh
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice  "$@"
j@lu64:~$ file /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice: POSIX shell script text executable
j@lu64:~$ /bin/sh /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice -writer %U
---

I think the /usr/share/applications/libreoffice-writer.desktop file should
provide the below command line instead :
---
Exec=/bin/sh /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice -writer %U
---

The below Ubuntu bug report shows that removing all those indirect calls speeds
up the cold startup time by more than 20% :

log LO 3.4.2 crash on exiting, OpenSUSE 11.4 x64

On LO 3.4.2 on OpenSUSE 11.4 x64 (OOO340m1 (Build:1206)) and LO 3.4.3 on
Windows 7 x64 I get a crash upon exiting (log attached and on pastebin :
http://pastebin.com/yrWTBtAk) when working with a big file (800+ pages long,
10Mo, illustrations, lots of zotero references inserted, etc) :

# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
#  SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x, pid=6220, tid=140008611702560
#
# JRE version: 6.0_26-b03
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (20.1-b02 mixed mode linux-amd64
compressed oops)
# Problematic frame:
# C  0x
#
# If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit:
#   http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp

I had no problems with LO 3.3.X, and since I reverted to LO 3.3.1, the problem
disappeared with the very same file. With other files, newly created within LO
3.4.2 or older and "lighter" ones, no problem.

Steps to reproduce the crash :
1. Open this big .odt file
2. Let LO run for a few minutes
3. close.

When executed again, writer will successfully recover the file, and the crash
is reproducible straight away.

Note that the crash wont occur if I open this big file, do minor editing (say
add a spacing somewhere), save and close right away. I have to let LO run for a
while.

This is my first bug report, hope it's not too messy ...

There is documentation right in the Gui. Reproduce the bug, then hit the "edit"
menu and you will see "undo move: multiple selection". Note that it says move,
not copy.
Try selecting the table plus at least one other line. Now drag it, and the
table will be moved, not copied. Check the edit menu, and it will have recorded
that manoeuvre as "move:paragraph"

This is inconsistent behaviour, and inconsistent behaviour is a bug. If you
wish to argue otherwise, triage is not the place.

I can confirm that this is a bug with the install process on Windows on a UK
locale setup.

It also applies to version 3.4.3

On Windows (tested on Vista), with a locale of UK.
Install LO and the GB helppack into default locations.

The LO install sets the User interface to English (USA). This prevents the
offline GB help file from being used.

The workaround is.
Load LO and goto Tools/options/Language settings/Languages
change the User interface from
 English (USA)
to
 Default - English (UK)
check that the locale is also set to
 Deafult - English (UK)
close LO and reopen
F1 will now load the offline GB help files previously installed.

Status: NEW
  Severity: normal

ReportedBy: jerome.bo...@wanadoo.fr

At each invocation of localc, lowriter or loimpress, the
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice shell script is executed.

This script will quite always guess the same environment variables. Moreover,
guessing those values is time consuming.

I think we could cache the below environment settings into a
/var/lib/libreoffice/basis3.3/program/environment.sh file:
-
FILE_LOCKING=auto
OPENGL_SUPPORT=no
SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING=1
SAL_NOOPENGL=true
JITC_PROCESSOR_TYPE=6
sd_cwd=/usr/lib/libreoffice/program
sd_binary=/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/oosplash.bin
-

Those environment settings could be calculated again by a package manager
trigger.

On my old computer the cold startup of Libre Office Writer last ~24 seconds and
guessing the environment variables is quite 30% of the cold startup time !

This isn't a new issue (was also reported against openoffice.org at

Ubuntu specific (or at least specific to the way Ubuntu integrates LibO with
GTK or something similar).

- open Spreadsheet -> I'm on A1 cell (with bold border)
- I'm doing ctrl-shift-F2
-> A1 is still selected but there's no more bold border around
-> focus is on formula bar

I'm on Debian testing x86, master repo, updated few minutes ago.
I took a look at the console since I'm in debug mode, no message at all.
