[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 43266] : An error: "This application has failed to start..."

Asking the same question here as in bug #42772, which might be a duplicate, or
not:

Could there be bogus versions of msvcr90.dll somewhere in
PATH on the problematic systems?

Would you people who have seen this problem say that your systems are ones
where you (or somebody else) have been doing "tricks" while trying to
fix various problems in various software? Perhaps "tricks" that require
administrator access, perhaps inspired by random more or less
reliable/misguided advice found by googling? Like copying dlls here and there?

I can not reproduce it in LibO 3.4.4. Could you upload an example document?

Workaround, select all controls in a row, then you can edit their height,
Y-position, width together.

--- Comment #2 from Rainer Bielefeld

I collected some examples for word " abcdefg" (with leading blank)
a) doble click all word "abcdefg", click "Underline"
   > All underlined black
b) Select "c", modify character color to red:
   > underline color for this character remains black
c) Select "a", modify character color to green:
   > underline color for all word changes to green
Ah, it seems first letter underline color determines underline
color for all following "auto underline color" letters
d) Select "e", modify character color to blue:
  > underline color this character remains blue
e) type a space before "e"
> "e" underline remains green
f) Select space before "e", 'Format -> Clear direct formatting'
  > Underline for space disappears, "e" and following get underline
 blue
g) Modify leading blank to "underlined"
   > Underline black for space until "d"

I believe "Automatic underline color of first letter of word determines auto
underline color of following characters" is a simple and clear rule.

But strange, this rule is not valid for overlining, and not in CALC, DRAW

So I don't believe behavior is wrong, but inconsistent, and those details
should be mentioned in Manual and Help.

This looks very suspiciously like a bug in ICU layout engine (which is what LO
use on Linux). The only other application using ICU that I've is XeTeX, but
there not even the first correct. This even seems to affect only Scheherazade,
other fonts like Amiri (http://www.amirifont.org, disclaimer: mine) or even
Arabic Typesetting seem to work fine (though both have different limit on the
number digits than Scheherazade).

Screenshot

Currently I get lots of crashes what makes CALC more or less unusable.

Steps how to reproduce with Server installation of MSVC Master "LibO-dev 3.5.0
– WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) ENGLISH UI [Build ID: 485138f-e92bf75-4c1bcb5]"
Win-x86@6 – 2011-12-06_21:37:02):

1. Start LibO from WIN explorer link to soffice.exe
   > Start Center Appears
2. Click 'New Spreadsheet'
   > New Spreadsheet will be opened
3. Menu 'File -> New -> Spreadsheet'
   > New Spreadsheet will be opened
4. Repeat Step 3 three times
   > 5 empty Spreadsheets are opened
6. Menu 'Window -> Click SECOND spreadsheet'
7. Click 'Close Document - X - Icon' at top right window corner
Expected: This spreadsheet will be closed
   Actual: Crash

For me this behavior is nearby 100% reproducible. Not limited to this
particular proceeding, Calc very often crashes. Attached Screenshot shows
message window after Crash.

Additional strange effect: After having finished recovera and reopened 4 of the
5 Spreadsheets, I will not be able to open a new Spreadsheet by 'File -> New ->
Spreadsheet'

New Effect, no crashes with Server installation of Master "LibO-dev 3.5.0 –

Screen shot

The background of the main menu, when you start up LibreOffice without
selecting a particular component, does not paint properly, and when you close a
particular component without exiting LibreOffice entirely, the background of
the main menu inherits the most recent window contents. See the attached screen
shot for an example. This is particularly annoying and insecure when you are
editing a document that has sensitive information, because even after you close
the document, some of that information is retained in the the background of the
main menu.

I have exactly the same problem. I am currently using LibreOffice 3.4.4 in
Ubuntu 11.10. The problem is not new though, it has been in all LibreOffice
versions since, perhaps, 1-2 years ago. As Fred is saying, in quite older
versions of OpenOffice the problem was not there, but at some point it was
introduced.

I can also confirm that it is not dependent on the Linux distribution, since I
have seen this problem both under Ubuntu and OpenSUSE.

In my opinion, this issue really impacts the usability of Impress. Please, let
me know how I can help to solve this, since that would reduce the pain that I
need to go through now every time I need to create a presentation.

ICU is compiled and unpacked by some dmake magic; hopefully the makefile.mk
shows how patches can be applied in there.

The code itself tends to be unpacked to eg. icu/unxlngi6.pro/misc/build/icu-*

and as you re-run 'build ; deliver' in the top-level it can be re-unpacked over
that so take care ;-)

OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: critical

AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: openoff...@starxpert.fr

Created attachment 54193
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=54193
Allows to reproduce the bug with following instructions.

Make a standard filter with 2 criteria :
- choose "Begins with" as condition for the first one
- choose "=" as condition for the second one

The result is the same than a filter using "Begins with" as first condition and
"Contains" as second condition.

To reproduce the bug on the attached document, apply the following filter on
the data range of the sheet "Feuille1" :

   Dummy2Begins withva
andDummy1=  erreur

=> All lines that contain "erreur" are kept visible whereas only those which
match exactly "erreur" should remain visible.

However, if the two criteria are inverted, the result is correct.

Christian: Could there be bogus versions of msvcr90.dll (if that is what is
causing problems; at least it is mentioned in the initial comment) somewhere in
PATH on the problematic systems?

Would you people who have seen this problem say that your systems are ones
where you (or somebody else) have been doing arbitrary "tricks" while trying to
fix various problems in various software? Perhaps "tricks" that require
administrator access, perhaps inspired by random more or less reliable advice
found by googling? Like copying dlls here and there?

I also already tried to remove all msvcrt runtimes so both systems are equal -

Not sure if this is related but I've noticed if I create an EMF file with a
graphics program I can successfully add it to a .odt document under LibreOffice
for Windows. If I then open the same document with LibreOffice Linux/Ubuntu I
see a completely garbled odd looking picture where the original image was
added.

On saving the document under LibreOffice Ubuntu the image is simply removed
from the document. The image is not linked, but inserted. I can reproduce this
on demand.

The EMF graphic was created by SmartDraw VP in Windows and is a network toplogy
diagram, not a chart.

I use Linux or Windows interchangably and OpenOffice didn't seem to suffer from
this difference in EMF file handling. I've tried Ubuntu 3.4.4 and still see a
garbled EMF diagram. If I edit the document only on a Windows LibreOffice the
EMF diagram is not mangled. If I import the same EMF diagram into Linux
LibreOffice I see the same mangling.

I don't know about the right or wrong way of doing it. But the example document
I attached the original bugreport shows that the HFD entry in the Data section
does not trump the path specified in the DocumentSummaryInformation. Only the
URL in DocumentSummaryInformation is corrent. The two other URLs are wrong.
There might be other "less important" attributes in the HDF structure that
should be used (I don't know). Maybe both should be used some how.

convert (from ImageMagick) on the server apparently is buggy/too old.
Version: ImageMagick 6.5.7-8 2010-12-02 Q16 http://www.imagemagick.org

Running

convert Rapid_delete.svg ~/convertbug.png gives the "broken" rendering. Doing
the same locally with
Version: ImageMagick 6.6.6-10 2011-05-21 Q16 http://www.imagemagick.org
gives the expected result.

I'll attach the files for easier testing.

unfortunately I ended up convinced I was on the wrong track with this code, I
think the right track was reading/writing the FFDATA (sic?) or HFD structure

Do we have any knowledge of exactly which extensions were installed in the

installing 3.4.4? (In the case where the problem showed up.)

[Reproducible] with Server Installation of "LibreOffice 3.5.0 Beta0 - WIN7
Home Premium (64bit) [Build:ef91e38-b1d4df6-090bcba-45cf606-05891e7]", I see 2
identical entries. No idea what one should be what.

I see in 3.4.4 that there are 2 language packls. BTW, different translation in
German installer UI is a little worrying.
And the problem is already in 3.4.4 (may be even more early), the different
names from installer become 2 identical entries in Options -> Language Settings
-> Languages -> User interface (at least in German UI and Catalá UI).

@András:

There is a crash if you perform the following steps:

1) Start LibreOffice-Writer
2) File->New->XML-Formdocument
3) If FormControl-Toolbar not already visible: View->Toolbars->FormControls
4) Select a Textfield-FormControl in the toolbar and create one
textfield-object in the document
5) Doubleklick the border of the textfield-object (to edit the formcontrols
properties) --> CRASH

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 43566] New: Opening a .xls file with Excel 2003 does not understand the BASE function

2011-12-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43566

 Bug #: 43566
Summary: Opening a .xls file with Excel 2003 does not
understand the BASE function
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.4 release
  Platform: x86 (IA32)
OS/Version: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Libreoffice
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: anthony.gro...@airliquide.com

Procedure:
- I save a .xls file with Calc with the BASE function, for example
=BASE(10;16;2)
- I open the file with Excel 2003, the BASE function is not correctly
recognized. Excel displays: =_xlfnodf.BASE(10;16;2)

This feature was working with OpenOffice 3.2.
