There has been some progress until 3.5.0, but the fileopen result is less than
unusable.

Tyhe original scx under Open Office

Hi All,

When a customer of mine imports her *.sxc spreadsheets from Open office, the
format is lost in LO 3.4.4 and doesn't show anything at all when imported into
LO 3.5.0Beta2. I will attach a test document from her and a PDF showing what
the SXC looks like under Open Office.

Many thanks,

I'm not sure the enhancement category is the right fit here. I'm sure loss of
data was not one of the design criteria, so it doesn't seem to me like this
aspect of LibreOffice can be considered to be working as designed.

I'll try out 3.5.0 beta 1 when I get a chance.

Ah, interesting.
It does not crash with 3.5.0 beta2.
Trying with beta1 .. it does not crash now too.

Argh .. Wait... difference UI of beta2 is English, of beta1 Dutch.

Changing UI language of beta1 to English .. crash.
Restart .. does not crash again.
Changing UI again to English no crash.
UI Back to Dutch .. crash most of the times.
Changing UI again to English > crash.
etc.

Well that all for beta1
With beta2, whatever changes I try, no crash ..

So set to WORKFORME for the moment and keep fingers crossed

I'm attaching a .doc file that is a calendar. With LibreOffice I see
January on the first page, but none of the other month names on their
pages. The author of the calendar asserts that with Microsoft Word all
the month names are there, and that Open/Libre Office have this bug that
does not display them.

Very interesting your last post Rainer.

I forgot to say that in all installations of mine:

- in this window
http://www.libreoffice.org/assets/Uploads/EN-Project_images/install33win/dialog7.png

I choose to "install all" (!) "Optional Components", but I leave "Additional
language Packs" the default ones (English + Italian in Italian GUIed OSes);

- in this one
http://www.libreoffice.org/assets/Uploads/EN-Project_images/install33win/dialog8.png

I use to check all check-boxes (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) in systems (all
ones) that have not Microsoft Office already installed.

Sorry for the lack in information and for the late integration of them.

In the Spelling and Grammar dialog box, if a certain misspelled word appears
more than once, even if you add the first instance to say standard.dic, it will
still prompt you for each additional instance of the misspelling, for a given
section of text that is presented in the dialog.

But on subsequent sections of text shown, it will behave as expected, that the
word has been added to standard.dic, so is not prompted as misspelled.

Previously I said that :

"If I re-save it with LibO 3.5 (you need to do a modification in the text -e.g.
change a letter- to save with the Save CTRL+S button): well displayed in LibO
3.4."

If I change the name the problem remains the same: badly displayed in 3.4.
So no, it's appear due to the filters called when saving.

So well, I forgot to say. The problem is rapidly fixed in LibO 3.4 by changing
the page right borders.
You see if you open the page dialog in LibO 3.4 that the right border is set to
0. Set it as the others (2 cm in my case) and the problem is fixed.

Which is a bit strange is that the dialog page border is displaying 2 cm as
right border (in LibO 3.5). Which explains why the odt document appears
correctly on this version.

Can be reproduce simply (for me 100 % reproducible:
1. Close LibO
2. Rename user profile, for me "C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\LOdev\" to
   "C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\LOdev_X_\"
3. Launch LibO from WIN "ASll Programs - LOdev 3.5 - LOdev"
   > LibO Splash screen appears, you see several 1 line messages "Activating

Expected: Libo will start and show LibO StartCenter
Actual: LibO does not start, terminates without any message when splash
   screen disappears.
4. Try 3. again
   > Now and in all future LibO will start without any problem

Also [Reproducible] with "LibreOffice 3.4.5 RC1 - WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)
German UI [Build ID: OOO340m1 (Build:501)]" and others, I saw it today after I
had uninstalled 3.4.3, then installed 3.4.5 RC1. I also saw it on the desktop
PC when I updated tor 3.4.5 from 3.4.4

To exclude possibility that it's related to an extension or similar I also will
do a test with a Master build, soon (I can't remember whether I saw that for
Master builds)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 44322] New: ODT management regression in LibO3.5: title borders and page numbers badly displayed in previous LibO versions.

2011-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44322

 Bug #: 44322
Summary: ODT management regression in LibO3.5: title borders
and page numbers badly displayed in previous LibO
versions.
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.0 Beta2
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: blocker
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: will...@gathoye.be

Some features that were improved in LibO 3.5 are badly displayed in LibO 3.4.

The borders I've added to some titles in my odt document are displayed too far
at the right.
Same problem with the page numbers I added at the bottom of the document pages.

Some screenshots are provided showing the file opening results in LibO 3.5 and
3.4:

-
http://libreoffice.gathoye.be/Libreoffice_bug_report_3.5_regression_margins_odt_fr.png

-
http://libreoffice.gathoye.be/Libreoffice_bug_report_3.5_regression_pages_number_odt_fr.png

I compiled latest LibO version (branch 3.5 and 3.6) (Linux X86_64), and saved
the file with these versions, but I got the same results in LibO 3.4.

I found no display problem if I create the document with LibO 3.4.: it's well
displayed in LibO 3.5.
If I re-save it with LibO 3.5 (you need to do a modification in the text -e.g.
change a letter- to save with the Save CTRL+S button): well displayed in LibO
3.4.
But if I add (not remove) any border I applied AND I save the file with LibO
3.5: it's bad displayed in LibO 3.4.

My conclusion : I think the problem appears only if the 3.5 adding functions
are called.

Word compatibility
---

The ODT documents I've created with LibO 3.4 and 3.5 are still considered as
invalid by Microsoft Office 2010. Word 2010 can recover most of the file
content. After saving the recovered document in Word (still in ODT), the
borders I had applied on titles and paragraphs are removed. If I reopen this
recovered document in Word, it's no more considered as invalid, but the borders
have disappeared.

http://libreoffice.gathoye.be/Libreoffice_bug_report_3.5_invalid_document_recovery_fr.png

If I re-add the missing borders in Word, they are saved in the document and
well displayed in LibO (3.5 or 3.4) and Word 2010. Word is so managing this
feature. If I save this document with LibO, Word considers it as invalid, but
after a second recovery the borders are displayed in Word !

It is actually a lot worse in 3.5.0beta2.

Now the input help does not persist at all on clicking a cell with such -- you
can see part or sometimes all of the yellow input help box flicker on click,
then it just disappears, making it useless.

I keep some password protected spreadsheets with client details in for my work.
I had to change some details, saved one, and on opening got "Read-Error. Format
error discovered in the file in sub-document content.xml at 2,31914(row,col)"

I rolled back to an older version, changed it again, and got the same error.

This is really worrying me, I rely on LibreOffice for this and now I can't use
it.

For obvious reasons, I cannot include the spreadsheet that has gone wrong.
However it was 144K in size, and included three graphs.

Basically it consisted of dates, request count, delta, averages, etc.

Using vim, I went to location 31914 on row 2. Here's the tag:

The exact point indicated by the error is the first
table:end-cell-address="Data.N39".

Hope that helps, although I appreciate it's not very much to go on...

My two cents:

Which bug or issue is interesting for a user or developer depends really on the
person and how he or she uses the software. A very important behind-the-scene
bug can be fixed but can be completely invisible for end users while on the
other hand a trivial aesthetic change can put a smile on many faces.

Satisfying the users in general is important, also to continue to get support,
sponsoring and good reviews, paving the way for future development.

Advantages of voting:
- users and developers can express their desire to have an issue solved with
having to comment "+1"
- by doing this, users and developers feel they are being heard which increases
user satisfaction regarding a project
- this in turn prevents users getting obnoxious

Disadvantages of voting:
- might not speed up solving an issue
- when a 10 year old bug has hundreds of voters, perhaps someone should do
something about it (perhaps an advantage ;) )

Voting is enabled for Bugzilla at Mozilla and it is helping a bit. It also
provides users an alternative overview to the different searches to see about
which bugs they care.

I'm also in favor of funding bugs by pledging bounties. In order to be able to
offer this in bugs.freedesktop.org, please *vote* here:
  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=124096

Also I wouuld like to propose this bug is moved to
  Product: freedekstop.org
  Component: Bugzilla
because voting is offered for all projects here.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 44314] New: HYPHENATION: Non-standard hyphenation patterns don't work with manual hyphenation

2011-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44314

 Bug #: 44314
Summary: HYPHENATION: Non-standard hyphenation patterns don't
work with manual hyphenation
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.4 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Linguistic component
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: j...@montane.cat

Created attachment 54971
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=54971
Text with Catalan and Hungarian words showing differences at hyphenation
methods.

Problem description: Non-standard hyphenation patterns (those that involve
changes in characters, like Hungarian 'pressze', hyphenated 'presz-sze', or
catalan 'paral·leles',hyphenated 'paral-leles') work well when hyphenation is
activated automatically, i.e., from the 'Text flow' tab in the paragraph format
options. But when hyphenation is activated manually, i.e., with the
'Tools/Language/Hyphenation' menu entry, non-standard patterns don't work, and
words are wrongly hyphenated.

It has been tested with Hungarian and Catalan patterns from Ubuntu dictionaries
and OOo extensions site. With Linux and Windows 3.4.4

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open LibOffice Writer 3.4.4
1. Create two paragraphs with the same text, forcing hyphenation at
non-standard rule.
2. Hyphenate the 1st paragraph automatically.
3. Hyphenate the 2nd paragraph manually.

Current behavior: 1st paragraph is well hyphenated, but 2nd paragraphs doesn't
break words at points where non-standard rules aply.

Expected behavior: Both methods must provide the same output.

Status of this bug report has been modified wrongly by a bulk change.

[Reproducible] with Parallel Dev-Installation of "LibreOffice 3.5.0 Beta2-

[Reproducible] with "LibreOffice Portable 3.3.3 - WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)
German UI [OOO330m19 (Build:301 Tag 3.3.3.1)]"

Same in DRAW and IMPRESS, Button WORKS with WRITER and CALC

OOo 3.1.1 shows Quality, Page Options, more or less those options listed in
LibO DRAW 'File -> Print -> DRAW-Tab

Those options can be selected in Menu 'Tools -> Options -> DRAW -> Printing',
but I can't see any reason why those settings should be missing in the printer
settings for DRAW and IMPRESS, but exist for WRITER, CALC.

The button is not mentioned in Help reached from dialog Help button, also not
for WRITER (Calc not checked), Help should be completed.

Problem is still exists in LibreOffice 3.5 Beta 2, problem is exists with
exporting to doc (MS Word 97/2000/XP/2003). With docx all works normally.

How to reproduce:
1. Create table with Alignment=center and width=70%. You will see table
center-aligned on page.
2. Save the file as doc (MS Word 97/2000/XP/2003).
3. Open saved file in MS Word 97-2003. You will see table right-aligned, but
must see center-aligned.

--- Comment #1 from dupei2s...@gmail.com 2011-12-30 01:43:21 PST ---
When anti-aliasing is off and you turn on "Nonprinting Characters" on the View
menu, the caret is then rendered correctly after the last character, but the
entire line of text is "breathing" while you type - the characters move
slightly left and right, so that would actually be a second bug.

Changed to blocker because Writer is really unusable when anti-aliasing is
turned off in settings, and the font is too blurry when anti-aliasing is on.

I've checked the last version of OpenOffice for Mac that I could find - OOo
3.3.0 and the same thing happens in that version, so it's an inherited bug.

HTH.

This seems to be a duplicate of bug 36874, however I now tested my problem with
3.5-beta2:

- The original problem of the wrong page size seems to be fixed
- But the resulting page is now _worse_ than before.
The problem I see now is that the new document created from "Avery Zweckform
3422" has now 2 (!) pages instead of exactly 1. Every second row seems to have
wrong margin settings for the right-column label.
See attached screenshot.
