Thank you for looking into the problem.

There were apparently some corrupted settings when I installed a new

I deleted all files that contained anything related to Libreoffice,
reinstalled the latest version, and the problem went away.

Things are working fine now.

The data from a dates field are converted in text dates, not in calc dates, and
i guess for this it can't be grouped.

This occurs with a file created from scratch with a few rows data.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 45065] New: Problem with EDITING of technical pdfs

2012-01-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45065

 Bug #: 45065
Summary: Problem with EDITING of technical pdfs
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: Mac OS X (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Drawing
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: brian.bj.parke...@gmail.com

Created attachment 55940
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=55940
original and modified pdfs (original created by UCSC genome browser)

Libreoffice Draw would be extremely useful for scientific illustrations and
journal articles where it is common to make minor hand--edits to complex vector
drawings produced by other software as pdf: it has the required functionality
but unfortunately basic bugs in pdf importing prevent its use for this.

I attach a real-world example technical pdf produced by the UCSC genome browser
(http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgGateway). The attached file
"draw_bug_test_original.pdf" is an original complex pdf as produced by the UCSC
genome browser. "draw_bug_test_after_draw.pdf" shows the same file after
reading into libreoffice draw (LibreOffice 3.4.5
OOO340m1 (Build:502) using File|open|portable document format (Draw) ).
"draw_bug_test_after_draw.pdf" shows the pdf as it looks inside Draw
(file|export as PDF) (note the problem is the importing of the pdf-- the errors
noted below occur while editing in Draw and not just on export to pdf).

You can see that several horizontal lines incorrectly are too long and start at
the left edge of the figure; the fine vertical lines are too thick; and the
colours are wrong in places-- blue instead of grey and light blue instead of
dark blue.

If these basic pdf bugs were fixed then Draw would be a great tool for
scientific document preparation, and I believe would find widespread usage
there as only basic pdf editing is required.

Further experimentation reveled that this problem is not related to "base" but
shows up simply by saving a "writer" file as "plain text". So I am changing
the component from base to writer. To show it, one only need start with a
short ".odt" file and follow steps 6-8 in the original bug report.

True, the once applied date format persists if a formula is entered and
displays the result (taken as serial date number) as date.

First hand the confusion arises because 3/10 is accepted as date in a de-DE
locale, this behavior is changed in master (to become LibO 3.6) with locale
dependent date accpetance patterns, see bug 44636.

AFAIK, you can't have two instances of LibreOffice running with the same
profile. I suggest you to try with another profile, a profile dedicated to
these conversions. To do that you can use -env:UserInstallation=pathfile
option.

I think it is not a bug: when you type 3/10 the first time, Calc interprets
that as a date and modifies the cell format in date format. When you overwrite
the contents of the cell by th formula =3/10 you have still a date, but now you
have a number of day since 30/12/1899. So you get the date 30/12/1899.

Eike: can you confirm my diagnosis?

Thank you for the picture, but if we are not able to play with a file which has
this problem, it is not possible to solve it. So I suggest you to do what
follows:
1/ make a copy of your document : menu File -> Save As... and choose another
name like "bugdoc_fdo45051.odt".
2/ in this copy, remove all the text (ctrl+A then press delete key; it is
important to remove only text and to keep the formatting) and type some dummy
text like "lorem ipsum". You may want use the autotext DT (dummy text) in order
to introduce such kind of text. Type DT then press F3 key.
3/ If you observe the same behavior as in your document, then save the file
again and attach it to this bug report.

remove nonexistent include paths

I created more patches, similar to the attached one.
Then I tried to build sw with as few include paths as possible and compare to
the current state but there is no difference in speed.

I had removed quite many paths, but not from SOLARINC.
I will wait for set_soenv to be killed.
(When testing speed in sw I removed everything possible from SOLARINC in
Env.Host.sh)

I think this will break ccache for one round ?
Should I push now or wait for set_soenv and remove paths also there ?

hello again jean,

I didn't mention this as a bug. However, it might be considered as one.

If you look at the pic i uploaded, you will find in the status bar at
the bottom of the Writer's window citing 1 of 2 pages.

However, the document actually has approximately 90 pages. This bug is
easier to disregard by me since it doesn't interfere with my writing in
the main window.

Just some FYI, if you wanted to update my posting. But I suspect that
this may have already been reported as a bug.

thanks again for your feedback and help.

pic of writer window with two paragraph lines distorted

Provided is an pic of problem. The bug existed in the 3.3 and 3.4 version.
But also exists in the 3.5 rc version, which is shown in the pic.

At the time of posting the bug, the issue wasn't present. Thus no pic could be
attached. However, the problem has reappeared, as expected and a screen shot
is attached for your review.

The attached pic shows two lines of the end of two paragraphs. The lines are
distorted and the cursor cannot be placed on it. However, all the paragraphs
to the 20,000 word document are affected at this time. The bug can be
temporarily resolved by cycling an option like file menu>view>hidden paragraph.
At which time the entire document resets back to normal. Subsequently, I will
continue my work with writing the document and the issue will happen again
after a short while.

The current os is Win7 64bit laptop, 2 gig ram.

According to http://www.robinlionheart.com/stds/html4/spchars or
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyphen, shouldn't it be "#8208" instead of "8209"
?

Quote of first source :
"
In addition to the soft hyphen, there is also a hard hyphen (‐ or
‐) which always renders, and a nonbreaking hyphen character (‑ or

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 40607] EasyHack: call fsync when we can when writing documents to certain linux file-systems

2012-01-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40607

--- Comment #24 from Tristan Schmelcher
 2012-01-21 14:49:09 PST ---
Created attachment 55932
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=55932
gdb trace of all the calls to close(2) when saving a document

Seems reasonable. I used gdb to find all the stacks that call close when saving
a file (in 3.4.4, since I didn't have time to build my own package with
symbols). There's a lot of calls (27), but most are very similar. Transfer_Impl
indeed appears in several, and SfxMedium in almost all of them.

I noticed that some of the calls are for backing up stuff. Ideally the
backup(s) should be fsync'ed too so that a usable backup will be present even
if a power outage occurs in the middle of saving the real file, since copying
is not atomic like rename is.

sorry for double post but i wanted to add an argument : it is very annoying to
see inverted brackets in file you open or create, it makes it very hard to know
how the file will look in other programs , and the bug persists while printing
.
it is probably not hard to fix it is related to fonts (neooffice fixed it a
long time ago)!

The large document that I was working on earlier displaying the fault, now
shows the correct content when I open it (to my amazement).
I can only guess that it was a memory problem relating to having several large
spreadsheets open at the same time earlier as I copied information between
them.

Sorry to have wasted your time, but I only raised the bug because I had the
problem several times previously (not just today) and it was annoying me.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 45056] New: PRINTING: define different scale modes for different tabs in Calc

2012-01-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45056

 Bug #: 45056
Summary: PRINTING: define different scale modes for different
tabs in Calc
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.5 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Spreadsheet
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: tomwoo...@yahoo.com

Problem description: I have various spreadsheets within one file of different
sizes. One I want width in pages 1, height in pages 4, the next tab I want
width in pages 1, height in pages 2. I also have other tabs where I might want
to print in landscape instead of portrait. I want all the spreadsheets in one
file so I can convert to a PDF to send to recipients so they only have one file
to open.

Steps to reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Current behavior: I set the scale mode for the first tab to 1 width, 4 height,
but then when I go into second tab, the 1st tab's settings are defaulted.

Expected behavior: I should be able to set the scale mode for each tab, so if
one requires 1 width, 4 height, the second tab requires 1 width, 1 height, and
a third tab requires landscape, 1 width, 2 height, once I set the mode for each
tab, those settings should be specific for each tab.

Platform (if different from the browser):

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/9.0.1

I checked your file U15Leagues20112012.ods both in LO 3.4 and 3.5 beta.

If you choose save as HTML, the HTML files are rather messed up.
However if you remove the Form Controls (the Drawing objects "Button 1" and
"Button 2"), the tables are exported as expected.
This applies both to 3.4 and 3.5.

I also tested with OOo 3.2.1: the export to HTML is fine here - in any case.

I set the status of this is bug to new.
However this may be a duplicate.

Also adding keyword regression.

 Bug #: 45055
Summary: EDITING - Applies to version 3.4 too, MID(x,y,z) and

Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.0 RC1
  Platform: x86 (IA32)
OS/Version: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Spreadsheet
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: sar...@waitrose.com

Whilst the text function LEFT(cell, characters) when used causes the result to
be displayed (and available for use by other cells), the functions
MID(cell, start, count) and RIGHT(cell, characters) do not work. Although the
result is displayed correctly in the wizards, the contents of the destination
cell is the formula, not the result (i.e. what is displayed for other functions
if display formulae is selected in options). Trying to use the destination cell
as a source for other cells just sees the formula as text.
This problem is seen in all Libre Office versions that I have tried, but I have
only tried single builds of each version.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, also rebooting my computer, and
working with different spreadsheets, but the fault is totally consistent.

Not able to try on other operating systems (mine is Windows Vista 32 bit).
I have looked through the current bug list, and the various release notes, and
I can find no comments on this issue.

4) In Language toolbar, click on 'Manage Language' button
5) 'Manage User Interface Language [$1]' dialog is opened

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 45053] New: No 'Two Page' view in PDF Export/Initial View/Page Layout

2012-01-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45053

 Bug #: 45053
Summary: No 'Two Page' view in PDF Export/Initial View/Page
Layout
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: PDF export
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: bugzilla_acct_1...@yahoo.com

There are *FOUR* options for viewing a PDF file:
1) Single Page View (in LO, Single page)
2) Enable Scrolling (in LO, Continuous)
3) Two Page View
4) Two Page Scrolling (in LO, Continuous facing)

The first-shown names are the terminology as shown in Adobe Reader X (View/Page
Display) - the second are from LibreOffice (Export to PDF/Initial View tab/Page
layout section).
[Note that 'Default' Initial View simply picks up the defaults of the PDF
reader program.]

The Two Page View as initial view is not present in LO. There seems to be no
obvious reason why it's missing, apart from the history that it's just never
been in OO. Seems an illogical omission - and hopefully a simple enhancement to
put right.

-I open up a blank document.
-Type something.
-Select the text.
-Right click on the text,
-Go to font menu,
-Take cursor downwards, so that the fonts begin scrolling,
-Menu ends at font Didot.

-Scrolling does not work either way - with arrows or mouse.
-Scroll up is present.
-It happens at every document.
-Mac OS X 10.7.2 Turkish loc.
-Libreoffice 3.4.5 Turkish Loc. Reproducible with English loc.
-I open documents either with clicking on them or the open menu.
-My settings are generally default settings.

-I believe it is a bug of Libreoffice Mac version.

  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal

 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: database...@hotmail.com

Problem description:

I have a 20,000 word document and the last lines of paragraphs are become
distorted and are not assessable.

Steps to reproduce:
1. None. It happens automatically.
2.
3.

Current behavior:

Regardless of the length of the last line of paragraph, the height of the line
is cut in half. The letters are also cut in half. The cursor also skips over
the line and cannot be placed on it.

Expected behavior:

The last line of paragraphs should be no different that the before it (base of
the paragraph) and the lines after it (beginning of new paragraphs)

Steps to clear:

Cycling the view menu option like "show hidden paragraphs" corrects that line
back to normal. However, it is only temporary and the problem with all last
lines in paragraphs will revert again after a short time.

There are no paragraph settings or easily identifiable image settings for such
a wide space below image.
If I copy and paste the same image in the same document, then the next
paragraph is normal - it is located below the image.

Exapmle with both images follows in attachment.

I get new LO 3.4.5
I still cannot load the document.
If it fixed in 3.5beta3 it doesn't make too much sense for me, because ubuntu
12.04 with LO 3.5 will be released only in May.
I'm using stable release 11.10 and 3.5beta3 has no repository for 11.10.
So, porting the fix from 3.5beta3 to 3.4.x is still open.
