[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 46428] New: Broken import of Excel file

2012-02-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46428

 Bug #: 46428
Summary: Broken import of Excel file
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.0 Release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Spreadsheet
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: tim-libreoff...@bitgems.com

Created attachment 57436
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=57436
The corrupt .ods generated by loading an xslx file.

I tried to import an xslx file into LibreOffice, and it ended up broken: The
first column of data overlap the column of row #s, and their drawing is messed
up (whichever one updates last gets drawn).

I saved it out as ods hoping that would fix it, but no luck.

I tried importing the original xslx file back into LibreOffice today, and it
actually imported correctly. I couldn't swear I was running 3.5.0 when the
import failed the first time, but I was somewhat sure that I grabbed 3.5 on the
day it was released, and that I had imported the file using the new version
when I received it on the 17th.

In fact I recall being disappointed that the brand new version was failing on
the second file I tried. So I can't explain why it works now and didn't work
then, unless the first xslx file I imported left Calc in a bad state.

I'm attaching the corrupted .ods file with the data removed. It still loads in
a broken manner as described above, even in 3.5.0.

So for me, I don't need any help at the moment, since the file loaded. But I
thought you might want to see a corrupt .ods file that stays corrupt even after
you load it and resave it.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 41965] Create new documents in ms office formats by default or as an option

2012-02-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41965

--- Comment #2 from Roman 2012-02-21 23:25:04 PST ---
yes, there is but it is not the solution because if you choose to create "New
text document OpenDocument" from Create menu on Desktop, you get .odt or .ods
file that needs to be resaved as .doc or .xls manually. And that's rather a big
problem for office stuff that forget that often.
So, something like "New document .doc" will be a solution. Meanwhile I edit the
registry simply changing .ods to .xls and .odt to .doc in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT,
that probably is not safe but lets create .doc and .xls instead of .odt and
.ods

NOT reproducible with "LibreOffice 3.5.0 German UI/Locale [Build-ID:
7e68ba2-a744ebf-1f241b7-c506db1-7d53735] on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit). I
typed a text line to a WRITER document, applied menu 'Format -> Change Case ->
UPPERCASE', saved as text document and coded text document, both showed
uppercase when reopening document with Writer or arbitrary text editor.

BUT

Effect ist reproducible with "LibreOffice 3.5.0 German UI/Locale [Build-ID:
7e68ba2-a744ebf-1f241b7-c506db1-7d53735] on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)
when:

1. type a simple text line into new WRITER document
2. select all text
3. Menu 'Format > Character -> Font Effects -> Effects -> Capitals '
   > now all text is in uppercase
4. Save as text , close document
5. reopen document with Writer or arbitrary text editor
Expected(?): all text is in uppercase
Actual: Text looks as before step 2, "Capitals" is ignored.

For me this all is not unexpected, I the first text the lowercase characters
will be replaced by uppercase characters. But in second test in step 3 only an
information will be modified how characters should be shown in the document,
that information will not be exported to text , and so it's not unexpected that
the text in step 5 does not show all characters as capitals. Also all other
effects from that dialog will not show a visible result in export.txt.

@Urmas
Please feel free to reopen this report if you can contribute Help texts or
similar sources what let expect some other results.

Please always contribute EXACT information how to reproduce the problem, "
style applied" is much too rare!

I can verify a similar behavior problem. You will get a similar error if you
try to change the slide template. No templates are visible and an error message
stating that the template is already in use will show. Reproducible on 3.5, but

indeed the upstream RPM packages, and not the ones that come with the

Happens only if the comment box is drawn with its default size, not if resized.
Apparently some miscalculation of shadow width/height.

Whoops. It would have been better for me to do this before
submitting comment 2.

Here is a backtrace of LO after the attempted save. The program had
been unresponsive for about five minutes; it was not using the CPU
very much, if at all.

LO did not change the mtime of the disk file.

> Why test with 3.4.4 when 3.4.5 is out and I cannot reproduce it on 3.4.5 ?

Because LibreOffice 3.4.4 is in the Ubuntu repository. I have tested this now
with the final version of LibreOffice 3.5.0 and the bug still exists (all
LibreOffice versions were from the Ubuntu repository). After this I have tested
this with LibreOffice 3.4.5 (from the official site) and I can't reproduce the
bug. This gives me the impression that this bug happens only with the packages
from the Ubuntu repository. I wanted to try this with LibreOffice 3.5.0 from
the official site but the latest trunk from unoconv can't convert the document
with this version.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 46348] FILESAVE endless loop when saving an odt file

14:30:33 PST ---
Created attachment 57426
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=57426
typescript of gdb session

I am filing this attachment and comment here instead of a new bug
because:
(*) The problem is evident with the same document
(*) soffice.bin pegs the CPU for several minutes

Note, however, that my situation is different from the originally
reported bug:
(*) I was trying to close the file (and the program), not to save the
file.
(*) My loop is merely (!) about fifteen minutes long, not endless.

If a separate bug report would be more useful, I can file one.
Meanwhile, carrying on ...

I am running on ubuntu-natty (11.04) 32-bit, master commit 53ca46c,
pulled 2012-02-09 around 20:10 UTC, and configured with ...
--disable-mozilla
--enable-symbols
--enable-dbgutil
--enable-crashdump
--disable-build-mozilla
--without-system-postgresql
--enable-python=internal

Here is what I did and saw.

( 1) Within gdb, `set args` naming CREDITS.odt as distributed in LO.,
then `run`. While the program was opening the file, the progress
bar at the bottom of the LibreOffice window went across the
window about 29 times; and then after several seconds delay, the
content of the document appeared in the window. The LO window
already showed the Search toolbar at the bottom.

This brings us to line 75 of the attached typescript.

( 2) Within the document, I typed ctrl-F. Progam moved insertion
 point into the search toolbar.

( 3) I typed "asdf" and clicked . Proram displayed dialog
 box "Search key not found".

( 4) I clicked . Program closed the dialog box.

We are still at line 75 o0f the attached typescript.

( 5) In the vertical scrollbar, I clicked below the thumbwheel. The
program displayed the text farther down the document.

This brings us to line 84 of the typescript.

( 6) Eight times more, I clicked below the thumbwheel, and the program
displayed the text farther down the document.

This brings us to line 86 of the typescript.

( 7) Five times more, I clicked below the thumbwheel, and the program
displayed the text farther down the document.

This brings us to line 87 of the typescript.

( 8) Twice more, I clicked below the thumbwheel, and the program
displayed the last part of the document.

We are still at line 87 of the typescript.

( 9) I clicked on the "close" icon in the title bar of the LibreOffice
window. The program closed the window.

(10) About 15 seconds later, `top` started showing soffice.bin using
 all available CPU cycles.

(11) About half a minute after that, in `gdb` I typed ctrl-C.

This brings us to line 105 of the typescript.

(12) In gdb, `info threads` and `thread apply all backtrace`.

This brings us to line 509 of the typescript.

(13) In gdb, `cont`. After about 15 minutes, the program exited
 normally.

Note exceptions and an assertion in the typescript.

By putting some printstacktrace, I just noticed that the constructor
ControlScroller is called twice :
- once by AggregateComponent (from QueryWizard.java:209)
- once by TitlesComponent (from QueryWizard.java:342)

Then I don't know if there's something in ControlScroller.java with sIncSuffix
(line 114) or the call to CurUnoDialog.insertScrollBar (line 115) or if it's
something else. All the files seem have been modified 1 year ago.

The update function in the Help Menu has an error: "The host name

Entering that URL into my browser also gives an error 403: Access Forbidden!
And trying to setup automatic update checking via "Options>Online Update>Check
now" has the error "The host name update.libreoffice.org could not be

Probably this happens because there are no updates for 3.5.0, but there should
be a more graceful outcome

To solve the problem, delete the installation folder and all Libre Office

As of posting this I have resolved the issue and am not certain that installing
3.4.5 and upgrading would replicate the problem.

Ok, in Windows - LibreOffice 3.5 is not reproducible.

In linux - LibreOffice 3.4.5 yes, but the step 6. close file, is 6. close
LibreOffice, and 7. Open saved file with double clic and the file is open with
Calc.

The file is saved in format .ods.

When the ppa repository will have the 4.5 version, then I will probe if the bug
is in linux or there is not error.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 46410] New: EDITING: Alphabetical index with concordance file

2012-02-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Classification: Unclassified

 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: kubu...@joggi.net

Creating an alphabetical index with an existing or newly created concordance
file does not work for normal text. The index only gets filled when having the
search text inside a frame (when using caption)

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a new document and type test followed by an enter
2. Insert Indexes and Tables
3. Select type: Alphabetical Index
4. keep for entire document
5. mark Concordance file and select NEW
6. save the file
7. In search term enter: Test
8. In Alternative entry enter: Test
9. Match case and Word only leave both to no
10. Confirm all opening windows by OK

Current behavior: nothing appears in Index

Expected behavior: Entry Test should appear in Index

If you add now a graphic (use for example Gallery) and right click this graphic
to add a caption. In the Caption-Field write: Test and confirm by clicking OK

Go back to the created Index and refresh/update it. Now the entry appears in
the alphabetical Index.

Problem description:
Installer gives error of stating that the user needs to close LibreOffice .4
before continuing, even if LibreOffice is not running.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Have a previous version of LibreOffice installed on Windows 7 x64 (probably
happens on x86 as well)

2. Attempt to run .msi installer.

Current behavior:
Installer exits with incorrect message.

Expected behavior:
Actually install the application. Ask for permission to run if it is not
running as admin.

NOTE:
It appears as if the inability to uninstall the previous version is caught as
the previous version is active, rather than the program not having permission.
As a msi file, you cannot right click and run as admin. Application can be
installed if you run cmd.exe as admin and then run the installer from the
command line. The installer should be able to ask for permission to run as
admin and thus avoid this problem.

Tested with LO 3.3.4, LO 3.4.5, and LO 3.5.0 (Windows XP / Vista 64), compared
to Word 2007.

LO 3.3.4 : bad (tables have wrong size, text partially missing)

LO 3.4.5 : even worse, displays only 2 first tables, the rest is missing

LO 3.5.0 : rather good (upper margin higher, logo messed up); probably good:
the third table displays one more column and red triangles indicating that the
table is not completely visible (this last column is invisible in Word, no
indicatore here)

Created attachment 57404

screen_shot for proces explorer info about soofice process

Problem description:
Sometimes application hangs on Copy+Paste action (from keyboard exactly on
Ctrl+C or Shirt+Ins).
Source can text, cell, anything in the same document or other application - in
other words from Clipboard.
Problem was observed in OpenOffice too and in all LibreOffice version (since
I'd migrated).
Hangs the application in what I was working and all other instances of
LibreOffice.
None from my colleagues has experienced the same problem.
Probably this is specific to hardware of software components installed on my
PC.
Process explorer (from sysinternals) even do not see Calc application anymore
(that in last case), but only soffice and swrite.exe (which is not visible in
list of Ctrl+Tab not list it anymore, but Calc yes in list). see pictures
attached.
Dumped soffice.bin, soffice.exe and swrite.exe - can upload if required.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Copy some content
2. Paste using keybord (may be from menu too, not sure) with Ctrl+V (and may be
Shirt+Ins too, but not sure about it - do it automatically, use both ways time
to time).
3. Not always, but just time to time, about once per week or too.

Current behavior:
Application hangs

Expected behavior:
Do paste as regular or got some error message explaining what is wrong.

Platform (if different from the browser):

OS: Windows 7 Pro - 64-bit, EN
Hardware: Lenovo Thinkpad 410i,
RAM: 2 GB
CPU: Intel i3 Dual-Core.

Please, help to diagnose.

(In reply to comment #16)

> I can't see any particular BASIC problem here.
>
> This one will not block anything. But IMHO a 3.5 Most Annoying one.

I'm the one that pasted the BASIC-macro, so I should add that the pasted macro
worked in openoffice perfectly (print page 1 to tray2 and consequent pages to
tray1), but since I made the switch to libreoffice v3.3 and later 3.4, the
problem surfaced.

I added this information because it rules out the possibility that it is a
GUI-problem. The cause is to be sought underneath.

> @All:
> Really limited to WRITER or also visible with CALC, DRAW, ...?

I have tried it just now (in v3.4.4) and both CALC and DRAW are also not able
to print to tray2 when selected in the CTRL+P print-dialog > properties of
printer.

@change from 'blocker' to 'critical':
I'm not happy with this change, because it costs me money: letterhead-paper
doesn't come cheap and for every printed page of a letter consisting of more
than 1 page, I have to throw away a letterhead-page that is not printed
correctly.

I agree that only affects printers with more than one tray, and thus rules out
most consumers and even a lot of (small) businesses.

unoconv does not do anything that would/should affect the configuration of the
window size. In fact we simply open a file, and save it using a different
export filter (with potentially custom filter options) using UNO.

That is why I requested to have this issue opened with the LibreOffice project.

This shouldn’t be done by design.
That would be a memory waste to do what the spellchecker already does.

And thesaurus may include words which are not desirable in dictionaries.

It’s up to the dictionaries maintainers to include words from thesaurus in
Hunspell dictionaries.

Ask to your’s to include colloquial words.

The vcl/inc/salobj.hxx interface is implemented by several platform backends
but many of these use the same (empty) implementations for several of the
methods eg.

'GrabFocus', 'SetBackround', and 'Enable'

it'd be great to have an empty default in the parent implementation instead,
and remove all those dummy overrides in the headers and implementations.

It is possible that a few similar cases exist for other backend classes too.

Thanks :-)

ReportedBy: jason.m.cl...@gmail.com

Created attachment 57402
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=57402
Screenshot of the table that causes the problem.

Scenario: I have a table where one row of the table spans across a page break
(with a "consistent table header", meaning the table header automatically shows
up on the second page of the table). Assume at least 2 columns, where the text
in the first column is completely contained in page 1 (small amount of text),
but the text in the second column is what causes the row to spill over into the
next page.

Action: I attempt to highlight the text in both columns, starting at the first
character of the text in the left cell (within the first page), and then
highlighting across into the next cell on the same page (so all of the text in
the first 2 cells are highlighted on the first page), and then I move the mouse
down to highlight the rest of the second cell that spilled over onto page 2.

This causes LibreOffice to freeze and keep the focus of the GUI.

Attached is an example of the document I am using.

I see the problem with a rotated or flipped rounded rectangle where the
rounding adjustment control point changes from the upper left to the lower
left. If you select the rectangle and move the cursor around below the object
the cursor changes to the move symbol over an invisible version of the object.
The visible object can be moved by selecting the invisible part. This can be
seen in both Draw and Write.

I am attaching just a Draw file where this bug can be seen if the above
description is followed.

Hello,

when exporting a pdf, you are not able to turn on/off the background of a
document in this dialog.

To turn on/off the background in an exported pdf, you have to:
- Open the printing-dialog
- Goto "LibreOffice Writer"
- Tick on/off "page background"
- Leave the printing-dialog with "cancel" (because you don't want to print, you
want to export an PDF)
- Open the PDF-export-dialog and export the PDF

I saw people found it a bit puzzling to use the printing-dialog to change a
setting concerning the pdf-export as well ("why is this not in the
pdf-export-dialog"?) and to leave the print-dialog with "cancel" to save the
settings without printing ("I have to press 'cancel' to save this setting for
pdf-export?").

I think it's just inconvenient if you have to open the printing-dialog to do
that. It would be much more confortable to be able to have the "page
background"-checkbox available in the pdf-export dialog as well.

Thanks for bugreport. It will help to improve LibreOffice.
Currently Writer contains several bugs that not allow to open doc files
correctly. For example, Word allows to place objects partially outside of page.
And Writer not allows. Therefore impossible to open part of doc files
correctly.
I have created one separate bugreport for bug, encountered in attachment:
Bug 35334 - document from Word with wordart looks different in Writer
And when it will be fixed, I will create another bugreport for another problem.

I have added another example with horizontal positioning problem. Writer has no
option for positioning object relative to column. Previously I thought that
instead my be used "Entire page" or "Page text area". It was wrong. Instead of
"Column" should used "Paragraph area".
What is interesting, when Word saves as odt and opens again, frame aligned to
column (horizontally). Therefore odt allows this.

PS: When opening doc file with frame from second attachment and select frame,
anchor sign appears outside of page. And when we scroll page, anchor remains on
the same place on the screen.

The width of the columns aligned by hand now. We went back to 1995. The
possibility of alignment by hand only is the reason which forced me to assign a

Well, my second (fall-back) suggestion was "sort by ID" *but* *show* the ID. I
was also suggesting to make the shown ID the appropriate ISO code, as in:

deu (German)
fra (French)
por (Portuguese)

Or if we prefer two-letter codes (when available):

de (German)
fr (French)
pt (Portuguese)

I'm very curious about what workaround is suggested.
Or should we set column width by hand one by one?
A real-life situation will rather concern some 20 columns.

This is fallout from the basis/brand re-merge in LO 3.5. Not sure this Windows
registry key is intended for external use at all. So we can either remove it
or make it point to the same dir as INSTALLLOCATION.

(Note that setup_native/source/win32/customactions/reg64/reg64.cxx also

I don't know how to fix it in the current framework, i.e. in multi-language
MSI, because MSI uses internal transform files to localize the English strings,
thus the original English sort order is preserved. BTW it was an improvement to
sort in English order, it was originally sorted by IDs. :-P

"LibreOffice 3.5.0 German UI/Locale [Build-ID:
7e68ba2-a744ebf-1f241b7-c506db1-7d53735] on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)
prints to the correct OKI 14ex tray and settings from Print dialog will not be
lost. So it indeed seems to be LINUX related.

Version due to comment 8

I can't see any particular BASIC problem here.

This one will not block anything. But IMHO a 3.5 Most Annoying one.

@All:
Really limited to WRITER or also visible with CALC, DRAW, ...?
