Thanks for interesting idea. Let me add some small ideas to it:
1. Usually users want to quick scroll to some of previous slide. Effects in
this situation will only slow down this search.
2. Many effects is symmetric, so impossible understand direction.
3. Combinations of effect may be so complex that impossible something
understand at all (for example if presentation used as QUIZ)
4. in animation may used sound, animated GIF, video. What with them?

PS: in current slide we can go to previous animation using buttons with arrows

daily 60

(Note: removing a fresh profile and redoing the test, decreases time needed to
start.)

The progress bar in the splash screen pauses (visually) with Solver,
Presentation Console, Wiki publisher. This is with each version, but clearly
longer in recent versions.

The first spike is when I click on input line and wait for it to start
responding. The second spike is when I hit enter to confirm the content in
Input Line.

In LibreOffice Calc editing cells is very slow when using the Input Line.
Whne I click on an empty cells and enter data, it works fine. However, if I
click on the Input Line, the applications freezes for 3 seconds, and after
those 3 seconds the marker appears in the text box. This makes it tedious to
edit content of cells.

I attach snapshots of my cpu-load when I replicate the issue. The first spike
is when I click on input line and wait for it to start responding. The second
spike is when I hit enter to confirm the content in Input Line.

Using this build: LibreOffice 3.5.1.2

Thanks for bugreport
Indeed, toolbars Bullets and numbering not exist in Impress. But such
functionality exist in Text formatting toolbar (appears if place cursor into
text).
Also exist toolbar Outline, but it works only in outline mode.
For more handy to use lists, use layout for slide that already contains text
frame with list. (3-th from top for example)
For comparison, in Word 2003 all the same except that toolbar Outline works
always.

So, how it should to be?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 47988] New: FILESAVE: Feature request : better visibility and access to automatical backups and enabled by default

2012-03-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47988

 Bug #: 47988
Summary: FILESAVE: Feature request : better visibility and
access to automatical backups and enabled by default
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.3.0 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: be.nicolas.mic...@gmail.com

Problem description:

Currently, the automatic save with copy of documents is not enabled by default.
The option will be enabled only by advanced user since normal end users only
open libreoffice et start typing without even think that such a feature does
exists.

But think about it : how many people do you personnaly know that lost their
document after a crash or a bad manipulation? I do know some and most of the
time it is critical documents.

But enable the feature is not sufficient : it would also be nice having the
possibility to browser the content of automatic saved documents from
libreoffice GUI.

Finally and probably the most important : currently the automatic save feature
is only enabled for already saved document (once you clicked on file/save). But
if you start typing without saving anything and the computer crash, there's no
way to recover the document. I know users SHOULD always save their document
before starting typing and I ALWAYS say it. But ususal end users don't think
about that. They just want to start typing their document. Of course, there
should be some rotation and keep only some pre-defined unnamed documents (say
10?) and that value can be changed in the libreoffice configuration.

Steps to reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Current behavior:
* Automatic save copy is not enabled by default
* When enabled, need to grab the path of the automatic save copy from the
libreoffice configuration menu and walking there with a file explorer (needing
to modify display options (either on Linux than on Windows) to show hidden
files to see the directory : really out of scope for a usual end user)
* Never enabled for unsaved documents

Expected behavior:
GENERAL PURPOSE : minimize the risk of loosing a document either caused by a
computer crash (except hard disk failure) or a bad manipulation from the end
user (eg : close an unsaved document by misunderstanding or by mistake)

Actions to achieve it:
* automatic save copy enabled by default (but be able to disabled it from the
option menu for the ones who want it)
* default delay should not be 10 min but maximum 5 min (I always configure this
to 1 min on my computers)
* also backup unsaved documents and keep a pre-defined number of them
* being able to walk through a history or something like a time-machine
concept from the libreoffice GUI and see all automatic saved documents, sorted
by date, and maybe see a thumbnail for each to easilly recognize unnamed
documents?

It is a regression against 3.5.0 and since Hardware Acceleration is enabled by
default it affects ALL Windows users.
Not only Windows. Linux is affected as well.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 47889] EDITING: Spell Grammar check needs an undo option

2012-03-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #1 from Wyndham Clampett wynd...@clampett.org 2012-03-28 02:25:12

I have just noticed the Undo button - after two years of using LibreOffice!!!

As I am an advanced IT user with considerable experience of using different
software programs, including different office suites over many years, I can
only conclude the reason I hadn't seen it before, is because it is almost
always greyed out and unavailable.

This actually re-enforces the sod's law comment I made earlier, in that it
was only after posting my original bug query, that I spotted the Undo button.

Why doesn't it seem to work?

Thanks for bugreport
In current formulation it is not a bug. We selected export to PDF slides AND
notes. As result both are exported.

On Linux we can use File-Print instead of export. Notes will exported to PDF
correctly.

We can ask developers to add option Export slides, so we will can to disable
exporting slides itself, allowing only notes exporting.

Problem description:
Spell Check fails to detect correction if the corrected word appears more than
once in the dialog box.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Spell check dialog highlights unrecognised word.
2. Add word to dictionary

The lack of this sometimes makes it more difficult to determine the correction
without having to refer to the actual document, which is made difficult because

Thanks for bugreport. Reproduced in 3.5.1 on Fedora 64 bit
May be would be better to ask developers implement option Apply to items
separately. When this option checked, animation will created for each item of
selected list as separate animation. Items of list will appear one by one, from
top to bottom. Animation may be rearranged later.
May be even not only for list items, but for any types of selected objects.

Screenshot illustrating the issue

Problem description:
Spell Check Resume button remains even after resumed.

Also, quite often the Resume button does not appear after making changes
directly in the document. I can't pin down exactly what causes this behaviour,
but it happens quite frequently.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Spell Check displays error
2. Make change in document
3. Click on resume
4. Dialog finds next error or unrecognised word, but the Resume button is
still displayed
5. Click on Resume again, and the normal buttons are displayed
6. In this example, clicked on Add
7. The dialog and buttons greyed out, only showing Resume as an active button
8. Clicked on Resume
Clicked on Add, and this time it worked

Current behavior:
As in steps - see screenshot

Expected behavior:
Normally the other buttons are greyed out and the only active button is
Resume. After clicking on Resume, the spell check process continues and the
next error is displayed.

Then, the Resume button is changed to show Ignore Once. This is what should
happen.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 47995] New: font features disabled when using OpenType font -- even when same font in TrueType format works

2012-03-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon

   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.2 RC1

Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: stevan.wh...@googlemail.com

OpenType fonts are the trigger for many serious problems in LibreOffice.

Tested this on my distro version 3.4.4, as well as 3.5.2 RC1. (on two
different architectures running Ubuntu 11.10)

The effect is: text in some Indic languages such as Hindi and Sinhala was just
mangled, evidently because necessary font features (ligatures, positioning,
etc) were not activated. But then the problem would go away. And then come
back.
But I have been messing with the installed fonts a lot.

The trigger
===
The problem occurs precisely when OpenType versions of the fonts are installed.
If TrueType versions of the exact same fonts are installed, the text looks
fine.

The font features in question are not specific to OpenType.
The type of outline has nothing to do with it.

DUP of or related to Bug 31606 - Exporting a selection of pages to PDF has
pagerange wrong because of blank pages and 7 or Bug 42099 - PRINTING: Page
Count and Blank Pages?

@reporter:
Thank you for your report – unfortunately important information is missing.
May be hints on http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport will help you to
find out what information will be useful to reproduce your problem? If you
believe that that is really sophisticated please as for Help on a user mailing
list
Please:
- Attach a sample document (not only screenshot) and the print result (may
be PDF export shows the same problem? Or you can use a PDF printer?)
- Attach screenshots with comments if you believe that that might explain the
problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show
- Contribute a step by step instruction containing every key press and every
mouse click how to reproduce your problem (due to example in Bug 43431)
– if possible contribute an instruction how to create a sample document
  from the scratch
- add information
-- what EXACTLY is unexpected; please contribute exact observation, including
shown page number in status bar, ...
-- and WHY do you believe it's unexpected (cite Help or Documentation!)
  -- concerning your PC
  -- concerning your OS (Language)
-- concerning your LibO localization (UI language, Locale setting)
–- Libo settings that might be related to your problems
-- how you launch LibO and how you opened the sample document
-- everything else crossing your mind after you read linked texts

Even if you can not provide all demanded information, every little new
information might bring the breakthrough.

@ Cyril
Thanks for explanation how to change color of bullets

 2. Expected: when Bullet color is Automatic, Bullet is the same color as the
fist character of text after bullet.
Strange expectation. IMHO automatic means that colors always differ from
background (such assumption works in Impress)

Will reopen if I will hit it again, as there was no clear pattern how to

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 47998] New: FORMATTING Background bitmaps do not display and text is irregular

2012-03-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47998

 Bug #: 47998
Summary: FORMATTING Background bitmaps do not display and text
is irregular
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.1 Release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: medium
 Component: Presentation
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: jkone...@rmtohio.com

I created a simple presentation. A single page with a bitmap for a background
and two lines of green text. When the slideshow runs the bitmap is not
displayed and the screen is white. The text is displayed but it appears
irregular with strange spacing between letters and the font is distorted. I've
included a screen shot taken from a tri-screen system (however the same results
show on a single screen system) and the original presentation file. I have the
same results on three 32bit windows xp machines and a brand new out of the box
64bit windows 7 machine.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34502

--- Comment #9 from sasha.libreoff...@gmail.com 2012-03-28 05:19:02 UTC ---
Steps to reproduce:
0. Open file Sample-file.odt from attachment, other file just download
1. Tools-Mailmerge wizard
2. Next until Step 3 of Wizard.
3. Select address list- choose file Timbri Copie - choose first table
4. Next until Step 8 of Wizard.
5. choose Save merged document, press Save documents
6. Open resulting document
Expected: number of page contains number of page
Actually: number of page always 4 (we see 4/5 on each page except of first)
(number of pages placed on left/right side of initial document)

Why expected: I think that number of pages should work as in initial document,
difference of initial document should be only in Database fields.

Hi,

I can reproduce on Win7 with LibO 3.4.6 and LibO 3.5.1.
The same problem occurs with extension Clipart gallery of danger signs
http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/gallery-of-danger-signs

1. Install extension and restart LibO
2. Open Gallery
3. Select Signalétique Chemical Product Them
4. Drag and drop first clipart (GHS-general)
= with LibO 3.4 the clipart is correctly inserted. OK
= with LibO 3.5 the different elements of the clipart are separated
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/820/immaginesmr.png/

However, the bug does not apply to all cliparts. I could not identify what
makes wrong exactly.

This is a regression.

Yes, it works with LO 3.5.

Now Writer remembers list view for Stylist, but one for all types of styles.
It is important to remember each type separately?

LO remembers one default view for each application.
That is enough to close this issue.

You should open a feature request if you think we should have the possibility
to have different settings for each type of styles.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 35361] QuickLook plugin on OSX 10.6 absent, misconfigured, or malfunctioning?

ODTs in LO 3.5 on OSX 10.6 still do not appear correctly (format is there but
font is not), though ods files do. As I have tested on systems that have had
previous installs of OOo or LO it is possible that this failure is an artifact,
but if so, it is an artifact that should be resolved through any installation.
To put the question back to others, has anyone seen any resolution of this
bug, and why would confirmation be required unless some change were made, and
if so what cganges were made and where would we look to examine those changes?

resolve this bug - and the bug does not appear in new installations, then
upgrading is not resolving issues from prior installs and arguably the install
should address that or there should be a specific procedure identified for
curing the problem.

Screenshot of Spreadsheet after described procedure

Problem description:
Moving rows with drag and drop does not shift entire row

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a spreadsheet with 4 entries (e.g. 1 to 4) in row 2, 3 entries
(e.g. 5 to 7) in row 3, 2 entries (e.g. 8 to 9 in row 4 and 1 entry
(e.g. 10) in row 5
2. Select entire row 4 (values 8 and 9)
3. Move row 4 by drag and drop between row 2 and row 3 while pressing the Alt
key
4. Release mouse button

Current behavior:
Row 3 now contains numbers 8, 9 and 7

Expected behavior:
As I selected the entire row and wanted to move the entire row, I expected that
the entire former row 4 would be inserted above the former row 3, i.e. that
everything from row 3 downwards is shifted down and row 3 replaced by the
former row 4. I expected the values 8 and 9 in row 3, and the values 5 to
7 in row 4. But the drag and drop only takes the cells from the first to the
last non-empty cell, and only shifts that part of the spreadsheet down when
inserting the values per drag and drop. In former versions of OpenOffice the
drag and drop worked as expected (at least as I expected it and as I also know
it from Excel). If I only wanted to insert certain cells I would only select
those cells, but if I select the entire row I would also expect the entire row
to be inserted. I also noticed that the undo operation afterwards (after I
noticed this bug) then selected a different row than the row which I selected
before the drag and drop operation. I also noticed that if the first column is
empty I cannot move the row selection properly to the upper rows.

Not sure if things have been moved about, but here's the Library where I
assume the generator should live, if one was installed by LO 3.5, and you
will notice the presence of the old OOo generator from 2007 and the neopeek
generator that is at least partially successful (provides formatted image
without correct font for odt, but works for ods.)

I am happy to tweak whatever on instructions from whomever so as to test any
solutions, but I have yet to see anything for LO that purports to fix
this.

I inserted a column between two existing columns in a Calc spreadsheet, then
created a formula in a cell in the inserted column. The formula showed the
correct value in the wizard, but showed the formula, not the result, in the
cell. I tried repeating this with different formulas, also in a newly created
spreadsheet. The formulas evaluated correctly if put in a pre-existing cell
(i.e. not in an inserted column) but not anywhere in the inserted column.
I cannot recall whether I came across this situation in any previous version. I
have not yet downloaded 3.5.2 RC1 to see whether this occurs in that version
also.

since 275.15 (cell B8) and 275.16 (cell B9) will overlap and look like only one
point.

can you type: 'time sync' before you start ? :-) that should make the times a)
lower and b) more consistent... anyhow cf. comments on the dev. list.

 Bug #: 48011
Summary: LibreOffice 3.5 is unusably slow with large documents
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.0 Release
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
  Severity: blocker
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: morf...@gmail.com

I have a large (1100 page) document that I've been editing with OO.org and LO
for six years without any particular problems, but LO 3.5 has changed all that.

Editing any text takes an age. I can type a sentence and then site and watch as
LO painstakingly puts each letter on the screen for me. I was following the LO
PPA in Ubuntu 11.10, but had to remove it when 3.5 was released. I've retested
with the latest LO 3.5.1 in Ubuntu 12.04 and it's no better.

Help!

You're right. It is more clear if you activated extended tips (Tools Options
LibreOffice General). The background color button in the table toolbar is
intended for paragraph background, not for cell background.

So closing as NotABug. Thank you, we have learned something :-)

Best regards. JBF

Even if you haven't the precise version code, could you tell if it was 3.3.X or
3.4.X ?
Could you attach the file so we can try to reproduce and try to debug ?
Finally, did you try to remove/backup your LO profile (~/.config/libreoffice,
~/.libreoffice, check both) ?
