[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48800] New: FORMATTING: Impossibility of snapping to increments devalues the usefulness of the ruler
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48800 Bug #: 48800 Summary: FORMATTING: Impossibility of snapping to increments devalues the usefulness of the ruler Classification: Unclassified Product: LibreOffice Version: LibO 3.5.2 Release Platform: Other OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Status Whiteboard: BSA Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Writer AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org ReportedBy: stav...@gmail.com Problem description: The ruler as it's currently implemented in LibO is only useful for looking up the current formatting, not for formatting as such. Moving the markers on the ruler with the mouse is highly imprecise and does not allow to set precise formatting (such as, e.g., 2cm exactly). While Styles may be used to work around this problem (and that is encouraged, as far as I can tell), the ruler is still much less useful than it might be and than it is in many other similar office applications (e.g. AbiWord), which steepens the learning curve for people migrating from other applications and complicates quick formatting of individual sentences and paragraphs. Steps to reproduce: 1. Type some sentences. 2. Try to format them by moving the ruler markers with your mouse. Try to get the ruler to align exactly to 1.50 cm or 2.00 cm, not to 1.51 or 1.49 or 2.02. 3. Give up. Current behavior: The ruler markers are only useful for telling the current formatting. Using them for some quick formatting, as in other applications, is nearly impossible. Expected behavior: Currently LibreOffice functions as it was originally designed, so it's not a bug but a feature extension request. In many other office applications, including AbiWord and Microsoft Office, it's possible to snap to ruler increments and that makes the ruler useful for formatting. In LibreOffice, the typical usage scenario is to use styles-oriented formatting and potentially to hide the ruler altogether because it can't be used precisely anyway. There is no option to rotate by 180 degrees. People need to design cards and brochures with horizontal folds all the time. These documents will have at least one side which is inverted (180 degrees). This should be easy for the user to do. If someone already figured out how to get 90 and 270 to work, how much harder could 180 be? All sorts of software routinely gets things upside down backwards by accident. How hard could it be to do it on purpose? I know there is a workaround - inserting an ole drawing object with the text rotated, but this is way less than obvious or simple and took me quite awhile to figure out. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 42120] Form based filters not functional in database
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42120 Lionel Elie Mamane lio...@mamane.lu changed: What|Removed |Added Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution||NOTABUG --- Comment #5 from Lionel Elie Mamane lio...@mamane.lu 2012-04-17 02:04:55 PDT --- The form by filter works exactly like the condition lines of the query designer. That is, the default operator is =; if you type a string like T* in field fname it means you are filtering for records that have exactly T* in fname, and not anything that begins with T. If you want to use a pattern, you need to write LIKE 'T*' (without the surrounding double quotes, but with the internal single quotes). You may argue that both should automagically recognise patterns (I'm not sure I would agree), but that is at most an enhancement request, not a bug. In my opinion, this should be consistent between the query designer (condition column) and filter by form. So if we change one, we should change both. (In reply to comment #4) What is interesting, Auto filter adds this LIKE '' to search string, I would consider this a bug. It should definitely use equality (or IS NULL for NULL values). Auto Filter asks for records with the same value in the specified field. This way of doing it mixes up the notion of pattern and of value: the field contains a *value*, not a pattern! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

Alex Thurgood should not be in the results, since the fname is not A*, but is Alex. The problem is that the generated filter is fname LIKE 'A*' instead of fname = 'A*'. The A* in the fname field in the newly inserted record is a *value* and should not silently be treated as a *pattern*. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 41652] “NO-BREAK SPACE” (U+00A0) interpretated incorrectly
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41652 Roman Eisele b...@eikota.de changed: What|Removed |Added CC||b...@eikota.de Version|unspecified |LibO 3.3.0 Beta2 Component|Libreoffice |Writer --- Comment #3 from Roman Eisele b...@eikota.de 2012-04-17 03:03:21 PDT --- If I remember correctly, this is a very old problem already present in OOo 3.x and maybe even older (therefore I changed the 'Version' picker back to the oldest available version). It is also not limited to Czech typography, but the Czech sample shows the severity of the problem especially well. Writer interprets U+00A0 like a 'fixed width no-break space', but users with some experience in typesettings or DTP applications (TeX with all variants '~', QuarkXPress and others) expect that U+00A0 should behave completely like an ordinary space character (U+0020), i.e. it should be extended and compressed in justified paragraphs like an ordinary space character, it just should not break at the end of a line ... I have never complained about this problem because I assumed it is just a clash of expecations: (many) Word processor users are used to the current behaviour, i.e. to the fact that U+00A0 behaves like a “fixed width no-break space”, while users with some experience in typesetting (like me and, obviously, dohnp5a1) would expect the other behaviour, i.e. that U+00A0 should be extended and compressed like a ordinary space. This is why I don’t use U+00A0 in Writer at all, it is just unusable in justified paragraphs for me. But the Czech sample shows that this IS a real problem, of course, and now I know I'm not the only user who is not satisfied with the state of affairs. So maybe we should discuss if the traditional behaviour should be changed, probably with a new compatibility setting to keep the traditional behaviour for old documents ...?! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

What I did: 1) Download the current master build (see above) and the US English langpack. 2) Delete any previous LibreOffice/LOdev installation. 3) Install the current release and, immediately after that, install the US English langpack. NB: Do NOT install any additional dictionaries, extensions, etc. 4) Delete any LibreOffice related stuff (settings etc.) in ~/Library/Application Support/LOdev/ (the complete folder) and in ~/Libray/Preferences/ (I found two files with names starting with org.libreoffice...). 5) Start LOdev.app. 6) Select 'Preferences ... Language Settings Languages'. 7) The right dialog pane appears, everything is fine. 8) Click 'OK' (without changing anything). 9) Quit LOdev. Note that the folder at ~/Library/Application Support/LOdev/ is created again. 10) Start LOdev.app, the 2nd time now. 11) Select 'Preferences ... Language Settings Languages', the 2nd time now. 12) Expected: the dialog pane should appear again, like in step 7. Result: CRASH. I can repeat steps 4 to 12 again and again: Everytime I delete the complete folder at ~/Library/Application Support/LOdev/ first, LOdev will show the 'Language' settings again, but if then I quit and restart LOdev and try to access the Language settings once more, LOdev crashes again. I will attach the MacOS X log file generated on the crash. This is either the same or a new, but very similar bug. I did not notice this behaviour before with LibreOffice on MacOS X. Either there has something changed in Master (then this would be a new, but very similar bug), or the reason may be related to the fact that this time I have only installed the US English help pack, no German or other help pack, and that the Language of the user interface is still US English, while the OS language is German ... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

This is now twice in the past 2 months that I've run into situations where I've needed to completely uninstall and then reinstall LibreOffice when moving between small version increments in order to get a stable and fully functional installion. LibreOffice should be able to consistently install and upgrade older versions of itself without issues. It is also worthwhile to to mention that at the time of the original update to 3.5.2, I had Lotus Symphony installed also. When I performed the reinstall, I had removed Lotus Symphony. If I open this in openoffice the print ranges are loaded. If you remove the links from 1709bp manual.ods in cells O:12, O:13, and O:14 create a new print range, save, close and reopen the print range loads. It seems the links are effecting the print range loading. If I look inside the 1709bp manual.ods file using a zip manager and search inside the content.xml file I can see what appears to be the print range setting. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 40585] Format-Cells crashes Calc
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40585 Roman Eisele b...@eikota.de changed: What|Removed |Added CC||b...@eikota.de --- Comment #16 from Roman Eisele b...@eikota.de 2012-04-17 07:32:44 PDT --- [REPRODUCED] this (or a very similar bug) on MacOS X 10.6.8 German with the current master build: LOmaster 3.6.0alpha0+, Build ID: 55823d3 (installation file: master~2012-04-14_05.23.05_LibO-Dev_3.6.0alpha0_MacOS_x86_install_en-US.dmg). All circumstances are very similar to bug 40359, and the report created by MacOS X for the crash (I will attach it) is nearly identical to the one created for bug 40359. 5) Start LOdev.app 6) In the Start centre, select 'Spreadsheet'. 7) An empty spreadsheet appears; select cell A1. 8) Select 'Format Cell ...' 9) The dialog appears; all dialog panes are accessible, everything seems OK. 10) Click 'OK' (without changing anything). 11) Quit LOdev. Note that the folder at ~/Library/Application Support/LOdev/ is created again. 12) Start LOdev.app, the 2nd time now. 13) In the Start centre, select 'Spreadsheet' again. 14) An empty spreadsheet appears; select cell A1. 15) Select 'Format Cell ...', the 2nd time now. 16) Expeced: eveything should be like in Step 9. Result: Depending on the fact which pane was open when you closed the dialog the last time, LOdev will either crash immediately (if you had selected the 2nd pane, 'Font'), or it will CRASH as soon as you click on 'Font' to open the 2nd pane of the dialog. I can repeat steps 4 to 12 again and again: Everytime I delete the complete folder at ~/Library/Application Support/LOdev/ first, LOdev will show the 'Font' pane of the Format Cell dialog again, but if then I quit and restart LOdev and try to access the 'Font' pane of the Format Cell dialog once more, LOdev crashes again. From the similarity with bug 40359, I conclude that the problem is not within the font selection controls on the 'Font' pane, but in the 'Language' popup menu at the bottom of the 'Font' pane: this popup menu is involved both in bug 40359 and in this present bug.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48828] New: FORMATTING: Font size incorrect in certain styles in .doc files since 3.5.0 - shows correct in LO 3.4.x and Winword
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48828 Bug #: 48828 Summary: FORMATTING: Font size incorrect in certain styles in .doc files since 3.5.0 - shows correct in LO 3.4.x and Winword Classification: Unclassified Product: LibreOffice Version: LibO 3.5.2 Release Platform: x86-64 (AMD64) OS/Version: Windows (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: medium Component: Writer AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org ReportedBy: fr...@frankmayer.net Created attachment 60188 -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=60188 File for reproducing the problematic behavior Under certain (not known) conditions, the font size in parts of paragraphs is incorrect in LO Versions 3.5.0 to 3.5.2. Opening the same file in Winword and LO 3.4.x shows correct font size on the English text. I have marked this one with a severity of major, because if such a file is opened with LO 3.5 and then saved, a user may lose formatting of his/her content. HOW TO REPRODUCE: 1) Open the attached file in any LO up to 3.5.2 and check the font type and size over the English text. It says Arial 11. 2) Now open the same file in LO 3.4.x or Winword and the same English Text is correctly shown as Arial 12. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48835] New: Provide an application menu in GNOME 3
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48835 Bug #: 48835 Summary: Provide an application menu in GNOME 3 Classification: Unclassified Product: LibreOffice Version: LibO 3.4.5 release Platform: Other OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: UI AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org ReportedBy: allanp...@gmail.com GNOME 3 now lets you place items in an application menu. This provides a place for actions and options that are relevant to the application as a whole (as opposed to a single window). Applications are already using app menus under GNOME 3; it would be good if LibreOffice were consistent with this. Items I would suggest for inclusion in the app menu are: New Window Preferences Help About LibreOffice Quit Documentation on the app menus can be found here - http://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/stable/GtkApplication.html -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48692] Importing large .doc file causes loop
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48692 Roman Eisele b...@eikota.de changed: What|Removed |Added CC||b...@eikota.de --- Comment #3 from Roman Eisele b...@eikota.de 2012-04-17 13:13:12 PDT --- It is hard to help until we know more about the DOC file in question. For now, to make sure that not every big DOC file causes Writer to fail, I downloaded the 'RTF 1.9.1 Specification', a 12.5 MB DOC file, from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=enid=10725 and tried to open it with LibreOffice 3.5.2.2 (Build-ID: 281b639-6baa1d3-ef66a77-d866f25-f36d45f) German running on MacOS X 10.6.8 German. This took some seconds and near to 100% CPU usage, but finally the file was open and I can read and edit it without problems ... Switching to another application while the file is opened does not change the situation. @Mike: could you try to download and to open the 'RTF 1.9.1 Specification' as mentioned above? If it opens without problems for you, too, we at least know for sure that the problem depends on the contents of the DOC file in question, not only on its size. (And if there are problems on your system to open the 'RTF 1.9.1 Specification', even better: then you don't need to anonymize your file anymore ;-).) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
