NOT REPRODUCIBLE with LibreOffice 3.5.3.2 (Build-ID:
235ab8a-3802056-4a8fed3-2d66ea8-e241b80), German langpack installed, on MacOS X
10.6.8 German UI.

Following the steps listed in the original description, no crash occurs. In
step 3 happens exactly what one would expect: "Start Media" selected, will be
added with .

So, Windows only?!

More or less REPRODUCIBLE with LibreOffice 3.5.3.2 (Build-ID:
235ab8a-3802056-4a8fed3-2d66ea8-e241b80), German langpack installed, Italian
spelling module installed (if this is of any importance), on MacOS X 10.6.8
with German UI.

I see the spinning curser for some seconds
* after step 7, as reported by tommy27
* after step 6 (when the new entry is added to the autocorrection table)
* when I repeat steps 4 to 7 immediately after step 7: when I open the
'Autocorrect options' dialog window a 2nd time, the selection 'Italian (Italy)'
is already pre-selected (good!) and the large autocorrection table is loaded
immediately, this takes some time.

Of course, on my machine I would not call any of these delays a 'freeze' --
they take between 1 and 3 seconds for me. But this may be related to the fact
that my machine is not that slow ;-) and has plenty of RAM installed and a SSD
(solid-state drive), therefore if there are any disc-access operations involved
they will get handled rather fast.

On older machines these delays may take much more time and will be really
annoying, I suppose.

Personally I don't think this is a 'most annoying bug' (no regression, no
crash, no data loss, no misleading error message, etc.), but I agree it would
be very nice if there was some speedup possible.

No, I did not install debug symbols because I was in a hurry and 1. in the
"backtrace howto" said it could still be useful. Also, I admit, I did not read
the article carefully enough.

After installing 2 GB (?!?) of debugging symbols for libreOffice, I made a new
backtrace which I will attach to my next post.

It says, "Sun Microsystems Inc. 1.6.0_24". "Use Java environment" has a check
mark. This sounds more like sun's java than OpenJDK, but apparently LibreOffice
does not complain.

Adrian

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 49613] New: [UI] The backspace key no longer works to delete automatically, even with compatibility / heritage mode enabled

2012-05-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49613

 Bug #: 49613
Summary: [UI] The backspace key no longer works to delete
automatically, even with compatibility / heritage mode
enabled
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.3 release
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Spreadsheet
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: and...@laposte.net

Instead of deleting automatically, backspace opens a popup for delete.
This used to happen for the delete key, and backspace automatically deleted
without a popup.
Now this is reversed (in version 3.5.3), even in compatibility/heritage mode.

The problem with this behavior is :
1) In case of unintended delete, the unlimited undo function allows readily
recovering.
2) The backspace key is large and in a standard location, so easily accessible
without the risk of accidently hitting another key. The delete key, in
constrast, is not in a standard location, is smaller (often smaller than most
keys), thus the user is much more prone to hit another key instead or at the
same time.
3) Avoiding the popup facilitates editing, which can thus be done much more
reliably and faster.
4) the popup is useful from time to time when one wishes to partially delete a
cell (but not a character within a cell), and is much more suitable for the
small delete key.

I would favour returning by default to the openoffice behavior, which as well
as being much more convenient, coincides with most other applications, such as
plain text editors, etc.
However the "compatibility" mode mechanism of version 3.4 would be acceptable,
even though the "default" mode doesn't seem to make much sense.

Problem description: Some users I know are using LibreOffice in professional
settings and participate in many committees. At times they are asked to email
file copies in .doc/.pdf formats to other committee members or colleagues.

I was wondering if it would be possible to modify the behavior of the
"File->Send" function so that it would be possible to email more than just one
exported document at a time as email attachments.

Both of these individuals are using the "Send" feature extensively, however,
when they have to send more than one exported file (mostly .doc's or .pdf's)
they, instead, have to resort to exporting copies of these files, which are
then stored on their hard drives, and later sent through their email software
as attachments.

If it were possible, instead, to "Send" MORE than one exported document, the
need to export+store other formatted files would be minimized. This would allow
for the recognition of a stronger ODF brand of file format and give the users
the perception that the ODF formats are more of the upcoming "de facto" file
formats. Not to mention the fact of the convenience of sending multiple
exported documents from inside LibreOffice.

Current behavior: "File->Send" is only capable of sending one document at a
time as an attachment email

Expected behavior: "File->Send" would send MORE than one document at a time as
attachment email.

If I press F7 or use the menus to open Spell check it scans (without picking up
any errors, but that is another matter, probably because it needs English
Australia).

Then it states it has scanned to the end of the document and whether you want
to scan from the beginning, if you say 'No' all is good, but 'Yes' results in
the entire document being replaced with some random document. Undo does
nothing, had to close and re-open to fall-back to my last save.

Went from ~ 50 slides to 2. (As in attachment)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 43967] VIEWING: Report builder wizard improperly formats dates

2012-05-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43967

--- Comment #15 from Ralph Peters 2012-05-07 18:42:14 PDT
---
Hi,*

I DISAGREE!*

The default formatting for dates in reports is *STILL* an integer -- number
of days since 1970 or something -- not any kind of "standard" date. To
quote an austrian friend, "this is foolishness"

Thanks for all the help,
Ralph Peters

Hi,

I am just back from a trip...

I noticed that if I *don't *ask for any sorting in the wizard that builds
the report, I get a report that "opens". Report-sort and it doesn't open!

Would you like a sample database that exhibits this behavior, so you can
investigate it yourself? I stripped down my database so that I can ship
you a copy.
It has 2 reports, one that sorts and one that doesn't. The "no-sort"
report opens, the "sort" doesn't.

The stripped down report is still is almost as big as the original??? ~~
24 MB.

I object to this bug report still being classified as "NEW". It is FOUR MONTHS
old and is still present in LibreOffice 3.5.3.2 which I just installed. It
makes the system look trashy to see half-a-window redrawn. Can't we boost the
priority on this a bit? It has to be a straightforward xfce-interface problem,
I would fix it myself if I knew how. Thanks for listening.

--- Comment #8 from moltenic...@gmail.com 2012-05-07 16:43:22 PDT ---
The above is a backtrace produced by following the steps described in your
link. At the time I had all extensions disabled, and the lo-menubar package
purged from the system.
I admit, I haven't got the debug debug symbols installed. If they are really
necessary I'll install them (the package I have in the repository is called
libreoffice-dbg), but that will have to wait 1-2 days and in the mean time, I
wanted to give you something to work with.

What you see in the original bug report is indeed the menubar, it was active
(so as the extensions) when the program gave this terminal output. After you
asked me to do so, I properly uninstalled (purged) lo-menubar, and disabled
extensions for further tests.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 49605] New: [PATCH] Writer confused by overlapping grammar errors

2012-05-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49605

 Bug #: 49605
Summary: [PATCH] Writer confused by overlapping grammar errors
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.3 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Linguistic component

ReportedBy: misc2...@danielnaber.de

Created attachment 61191
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=61191
fix

Having two errors that partly overlap confuses writer, it will show the same
error message for both. That's because only the first error is considered, the
end position is ignored. The attached patch seems to fix this.

If you want to reproduce: download and install
http://www.languagetool.org/download/test/LanguageTool-20120507-snapshot-overlapping-bug-demo.oxt,
create a German document with this text: "Die falle schnappte zu." You will see
two underlines (looks like one because of the overlap): right click on "falle",
then one "schnappte" -> you will get the same error texts and suggestions,
although there are two errors. With the patch, the error does not occur
anymore.

it could easily be replaced with something like:

if( ! profile )
throw std::exception();

sal_Char aBuf[1024];
rtl::OString ret= osl_readProfileString( profile, rSection.getStr(),
rEntry.getStr(), aBuf, sizeof( aBuf ), rDefault.getStr() ) ? rtl::OString( aBuf
) : rtl::OString();

osl_closeProfile(profile);

return ret;

and then deleted from codebase.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 49601] New: Replace home-grown regexp parser with some std library

  Priority: medium
 Component: Libreoffice
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: f...@mail.ru

>From here: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/Crazy_Ideas:

Idea: Currently libs-gui/regexp contains a home-grown regexp-parser. Not only
is this in libs-gui in the wrong location, but these standard tasks should be
done by some external library specialized for that purpose, such as libregex,
pcre, regex from boost (or whatever). Investigate this usage and rip it out,
replacing calls to some standard library.
Actually this
http://opengrok.go-oo.org/xref/libs-gui/i18npool/source/search/textsearch.cxx#34
seems like the only occurence where we import the regexp, so removing that one
might actually be quite easy. Other parts or the code already import #include
and standard #include so we would not be
introducing new requirements anyway.
Comments: A regex library, or regex functions in the C library, is "standard"
only on many Unix platforms, though. For a generic Linux build, and for
Windows, we still need a regex library in-tree.

When is this going to be fixed? This is ridiculous that this hasn't been fixed
yet!

This "bug fix" has been requested by lots of people for a long time. Can
addressing this PLEASE be made a top priority by LibreOffice Developers? Please
fix this soon!

I did a 2 minutes search and found tons of people asking for this feature.
Here's a few links that show how this is a highly requested feature-request:

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 49597] New: : "Fit to frame" text goes unvisibly outside frame until pressing Enter

2012-05-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49597

 Bug #: 49597
Summary: : "Fit to frame" text goes unvisibly outside frame
until pressing Enter
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.2 Release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: ruediger.kupper+bugzi...@gmail.com

Problem description:

In impress or draw, when entering text in a text box, with "Fit to frame" set,
the last line of text drops below the frame and is not visible. For a video of
this please see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/982565/+attachment/3134884/+files/broken-text-scaling-in-impress.ogv

Steps to reproduce:

1. in Impress or Draw, create a text box
2. secondary click edge of text box
3. in context menu, click Text
4. uncheck Fit height to text
5. check Fit to frame
6. OK button
7. click into text box
8. repeatedly type text then hit Enter

Current behavior:

when the text reaches the bottom, the last line drops below the frame and is
not visible. Scaling appears only after ENTER is pressed.

Expected behavior:

when the text reaches the bottom, the text is fit to the frame, and all text is
always visible. Scaling appears as soon as a new line is entered.

Platform (if different from the browser):

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/12.0

Yes, especially on it's difficult to
understand that the bugzilla login is the same as for

I think an additional line in the ASSISTANT heading should be enough

Current text:
"Thank you for ... This assistant will lead you step by step through the bug
report process. "

Should be something like
"Thank you for ... This assistant will lead you step by step through the bug
report process at bugs.freedesktop.org."

I can't tell whether there is an easy solution to add a single line frame
 with a hint "Freedesktop.org Bugzilla
via Libreoffice Bugzilla assistant" similar to the mockup

Summary: : Duplex option not available when printing to Lexmark
T632 on OSX-10.
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.3 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Libreoffice
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: byrn...@harte-lyne.ca

Problem description:
On OSX-10.7 (Snow Leopard) when printing multiple page documents from writer or
calc (and possibly everything else but I have only tried these two) the duplex
option is not available for selection for a Lexmark T632 having the duplexing
option installed. However, when printing the same documents on the same system
to the same printer using OpenOffice-3.2 the duplex option is available.

Steps to reproduce:
1. create multi-page document is write
2. print
3.

Current behavior: Duplex option is not available

Expected behavior: Duplex option should be available

Platform (if different from the browser): OSX-10.7

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:10.0.4) Gecko/20120424
Firefox/10.0.4

Sorry, can not understand problem.
Problem is that green rectangle is misplaced around あ (placed slightly to up)?
If so, then it is reproducible in 3.5.3 and is regression after 3.3.4

Or problem is another?

Urgh, from meta.xml:

Generator: OpenOffice.org/2.3$Linux OpenOffice.org_project/680m6$Build-9226

That's quite old, no idea if that was vanilla or not - question is, do we need,

@Sasha:
(In reply to comment #12)
> > Sasha in comment #6 told for Word 2007, Word just complains that it can't
> > open that file.
> In my case msOffice 2007 opens all odf files. Just asks 2 times if we sure.
> But Word 2007 opens attachment without recorded changes. Just text.

Sasha, sorry for ascribing a wrong sentence to you! Thank you for correcting
me! So, the facts are:
* MS Office 2007 opens all ODF files, but with some problems (tested by Sasha)
* MS Office 2010 opens only ODF 1.1 files and doesn't open ODF 1.2 (extended)
files (at least on the machine I used for the test ;-).

Therefore, the advise I gave in my comment #5 and comment #10 (configure
LibreOffice to use ODF 1.1 if you want to exchange .odt etc. files with MS
Office) is true if you want to exchange files with MS Office 2010, but not
necessary if you want to exchange files with MS Office 2007. Have I got it
right finally? ;-)

> > This is correct and NOT a bug, especially not a bug in LibreOffice
> It is bug in Word 2007, therefore NotOurBug, but still a bug.

Ah, OK, I see you are right here again! So thank you for changing from NOTABUG
to NOTOURBUG!

I always thought the main problem was that MS Office did not display the final
version of the text correctly, and then the fact that it does not change the
recorded changes en detail seemed just minor to me. I was affirmed in this
wrong view by the fact that my MS Office 2010 installation did not open the
original .odt sample file at all. But if the main problem was simply the fact
that MS Office 2007 DID open the .odt sample file, but did NOT show the changes
en detail, there is indeed a bug here. But, as Sasha states, not our bug, but a
bug in MS Office.

So, while I was talking about misunderstandings in my brave comment #10, I was
myself in the state of misunderstanding ;-) Sorry for any inconvenience this
may have caused for anybody! But at least, I know more about the complicated
ODF/LibreOffice/MS Office interaction now, and maybe someone else too ;-)
