@saltche...@yahoo.com:
I saw something similar with Master: I had to do several attempts for first
launch, each terminated with a little more progress bar view, and after 10 or
so attempts I had it running without further problems.

Text rendering seems to have improved in LO V3.5.4.2 (tested with Windows 7
Prof. 64bit) but is still not perfect. There are no more changes of character
spaces when moving from one slide to another in LO Impress presentations. But
there are still "anomalies" in text rendering when using slide show effects
(font rendering is changed somewhat from bold to normal just after finishing of
the slide show effect).

alternative patch to the problem

I think it is better to skip the rest of the content of the loop in the error
case. I.e. then it becomes a case of scanning for the start of the run rather
than having potential spacing problems. This patch aims to do that but has not
been tested against this bug.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 50519] New: UI: Confusing "Do you want to overwrite it?" dialog in Wizard->Letter->...Finish

2012-05-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50519

 Bug #: 50519
Summary: UI: Confusing "Do you want to overwrite it?" dialog in
Wizard->Letter->...Finish
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.3 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: wa...@uci.edu

Problem description:
(Fedora rpm: 3.5.3.2-3.fc17)
Using the Wizard -> Letter menu item, I navigated through a few pages of Next>
clicks and finally at the end, clicked Finish. I immediately got a dialog box
with the title "LibreOffice 3.5" with text: "The file already exists. Do you
want to overwrite it?" and buttons "Yes" and "No". At this point, there is no
indication of the file's name, so the user does not know what the dialog box is
referring to. I have left the template name blank and the "Location and file
name" field refers to some template file ".../myLetterTemplate.ott". But this
shouldn't be what is being overwritten, because I am creating a new letter. As
a user, I am not consciously creating a template, so naming the template or
selecting a template file should not be needed.

Clicking "No" closes the wizard window and the window underneath which
presumably shows a preview of the document being created by the wizard.

Steps to reproduce:
1. New instance of Writer
2. Wizard -> Letter
3. Click next, repeating until the last page.
4. Click Finish
5. Receive dialog asking about file overwrite.

Current behavior:
User doesn't expect to be asked about overwrite. Clicking no, she probably
expects to be able to edit the new document, but instead, the wizard, dialog,
and preview document windows all close, returning to the original blank
instance of Writer.

Expected behavior:
Allow the user to begin editing the new document, if the safe choice is picked
("No" when asked about overwrite).

Platform (if different from the browser): Fedora 17, x86

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) AppleWebKit/535.11 (KHTML, like Gecko)
Chrome/17.0.963.79 Safari/535.11

Suggested resolutions:

* Indicate what file "already exists" in the dialog box or in the final wizard
pane.
* If saving a new template file is required in order to create a letter, notify
the user of this (not so good), or create the template file in a temporary
location since the user obviously doesn't care about the template, having not
named it (better).
* Eliminate the need for writing the template file, since the user doesn't want
one in this case anyway.

For more advanced document editing it would be very convenient with a feature
identical or similar to Microsoft Word's style guides. In my opinion, it is one
major feature missing from Word which inhibits editing.

That is, colors in the left margin that signify what style that is in use for
the corresponding paragraphs.

Googling for "Word style guides" gives this screenshot as example:

My mistake! Fontin is a free, san serif, not a serif. I'll see what Serif fonts
I have and will get back to you (I actually have a few Serif fonts installed by
myself).

Instead of duplicating this issue and attachment I would they to prioritize the
problem, and I think the main one is the frame with the extra mother+child
frame which cover the "real" content which is seen in the 1st page of the MS
word screenshot.

The 2nd issue is the mislocation of the photos in the page, and only then the
border color and thickness issues.

Dear Caolán McNamara, thank you for your insights into the possible problem. I
am going to check out my system to see what other fonts I have installed on it.
Though, I can tell you that I am very careful with installing fonts on my
system and I don't do it unless I's absolutely necessary (I regularly check my
font folder and uninstall any font that is not installed by myself).

As for a free Serif font, I can tell you, off the top of my head, that I have
Fontin installed (you can see it here: http://www.exljbris.com/fontin.html ). I
don't recall having any other free Serif font on my system that did not already
come with the OS. Nevertheless, I am going to check it out and will report back
to you soon.

Again, thank you for following up with this issue.

There have been many things discussed in this bug report, but I pick one. As
title says: Option to determinate default UI language during installation
required

I think that option would make sense in a single user - single language
environment, but when LibreOffice is installed for multiple users, who may use
different languages, it is clear that we should not set a single default
language for them at computer level during install. Therefore I resolve this
bug as WONTFIX. Otherwise, I keep working on the installer to make it easily
understandable, and intuitive. Thanks for your feedback.

I'm afraid the installation database on reporter's computer is corrupted. It is
hard to tell why. It may be our fault, it may be Microsoft's fault, or some
installation process got interrupted at some stage and left garbage after
itself. Anyway, it is not reproducible in our environment, so I don't think we
can do anything about it. Sorry.

AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: bernd.gie...@gmx.net

Using the LO 3.5.3 x64 Linux version running under openSuSE 12.1 x64 I've
created a Calc table with wide columns which exceed the width of an A4 page in
"portrait" orientation. Therefore, I've switched the document's page format
(via menu item "Format/Page/Tab 'Page'/Alignment") from "Portrait" to
"Landscape". Although the print preview shows me now a correctly aligned page,
where my table fits in its total width on one "landscaped" page, the document
itself is later printed always in portrait orientation split up in two pages
(the first x columns printed on page 1, the remaining columns printed on page 2
etc.). However, first exporting the same document to a .pdf file and then
printing the .pdf file contents to the same printer works fine (page is printed
in landscape orientation). Moreover, using the same document with the LO 3.5.3
x86 Windows versions works absolutely perfect without any changes, that is, it
is directly printed to my printer as expected (without a detour via a .pdf
export).

Spreadsheet demonstrating much better performance (enter a number at 'All

This spreadsheet is much faster (takes just a second or so to enter data).

The only change is to $Splits.AD2:AM753 and $Splits.BH2:BQ753. Rather than do
an actual match against the data in columns G:AA, it simply uses the value in
column G. That is not correct behavior, but it may help demonstrate the
problem.

I´m part of the German localisation team.
Because of your report we have discussed your proposal on German discuss-ML
today. Our opinion is that the German localisation is the most suitable
localisation.

Are you German? If you would like to dicuss, please post a mail to German

Problem stays after upgrading my Ubuntu to 12.04! Problem stays in 3.5.4 too!
On Windows XP with LO 3.5.3 this problem doesn't exist.

The problem is on the amd64 and x86, Windows and Linux (various distro).
If you can't reproduce the problem, try to change the scale and width of column
that
the contents of the cells could fit one line with minimal column width.
On different platforms, the problem may occur at different scales.

--- Comment #4 from Thomas Arnhold 2012-05-30 09:48:11 PDT

Petr, with LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 libreoffice3.6 you can't reproduce this bug. Try
this with libreoffice 3.5.3 and it will fail too. The translation of those keys
was dependent on the keyboard layout, not the locale setting. As Bjoern
mentioned in his commit:

lp#818761: removing the problematic call to GetKeyboardName() as
getKeysymReplacementName only provides the name of the key named
as given by the l10n of the _keyboard_ (not the locale) e.g. a
german keyboard would name "Ctrl" instead as "Strg". Assuming
this change to be safe as getKeysymReplacementName falls back to
English names anyway.

The replacement table was called with ::vcl_sal::getKeysymReplacementName.

On master I deleted the table:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=2233aa52da14ec85331aee1163b885fe9a9fb507

The problem itself lies at SalDisplay::GetKeyboardName:

// try X keyboard extension
if( (pXkbDesc = XkbGetKeyboard( GetDisplay(), XkbAllComponentsMask,
XkbUseCoreKbd )) )
{
const char* pAtom = NULL;
if( pXkbDesc->names->groups[0] )
{
pAtom = XGetAtomName( GetDisplay(), pXkbDesc->names->groups[0] );
m_aKeyboardName = pAtom;
XFree( (void*)pAtom );
}

--> The keyboard name was extracted from the current keyboard layout. So you
have to change your keyboard layout to get a translation of keys with libo
3.5.3.

The only quick download for windows I see online at the moment is 3.5.4.2, to
which I upgraded from my clean install 3.5.0rc3 on XP SP3.

The problem persists for me in 3.5.4.2:

1. Open a LibreOffice document (brand new trivial document).
2. Minimize the document to the task bar.
3. Open the same document again from windows Explorer.
4. User experience is that nothing happens.

For steps 1 and 3 I tried both "double click" the "untitled 1.odt" I'd created
on the desktop (content just "test" text), and right click "open".

Sorry I can't confirm your findings for Windows (XP).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 50507] New: On MacOS X, the new zoom slider always looks like disabled

2012-05-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon

 Bug #: 50507
Summary: On MacOS X, the new zoom slider always looks like
disabled
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO Master
  Platform: x86 (IA32)
OS/Version: Mac OS X (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: b...@eikota.de

When I compare the new look (since 2012-05-22) of the zoom slider at the bottom
of a LibreOffice Writer window with the old (3.5.x) look, I get the impression
that the zoom slider now always looks like disabled. I understand that the new
look of the should be "Simpler, and more light-weight" (as stated in the
committ message

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=bc1fd830be6165c364805c2ad09854ecc8e863a6

). But at least to me, the new look seems a bit "too light-weight": these light
shades of grey suggest to me (as a long-time MacOS X user) that this control is
disabled and can't be used.

You can see this on my Writer screenshots attached to bug 49914:
* old look (3.5.4):  attachment 61808 [details]
* new look (3.6 Master): attachment 62061 [details]

To enumerate en detail what's looking wrong to me:

(1.) The main problem is the actual zoom slider, i.e. the horizontal line; I
always think that there is missing a darker grey line somewhere, as expected in
an enabled control.

(2.) It is also possible that the slide zoom button (the round button which you
move with the mouse) just needs to be darker on MacOS.

(3.) A minor problem may be the plus (+) and minus (-) signs at the left and
right of the zoom slider; if they are enabled, I would expect them to be a bit
darker, more like the dark grey of the triangular arrows at the bottom of the
vertical scroll bar at the right of the window.

Please note:
It is still possible that this new look is completely intentional, and that my
doubts have already been considered and rejected. I don't know this, only the
original designer (Mirek M.) and the programmer (Kendy) can tell us. If this is
the case, you can close this bug, no problem!

But I want to report it, and ask you to think a while about it before you close
it, because
(a) it is easily possible that there is at least missing a dark grey line
somewhere;
(b) there are some differences between what users of different operating
systems expect, here in regard of how an enabled control should look like, and
therefore, it is possible that a design which works completely well on Linux
needs some little changes for MacOS X (and maybe for Windows?).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 50506] New: Drawing error in the indent markers for the new rulers on MacOS X

2012-05-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50506

 Bug #: 50506
Summary: Drawing error in the indent markers for the new rulers
on MacOS X
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO Master
  Platform: x86 (IA32)
OS/Version: Mac OS X (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: b...@eikota.de

When I compare the new (3.6 Master) look of the LibreOffice rulers with the old
(3.5.x) look, I find a little visual problem, probably a drawing error, in the
triangualar markers for indent (before text, after text, first line indent).

At least on MacOS X, the border line of these markers used to be a combination
of light grey parts and dark grey parts, to give a three-dimensional
impression. Now most parts of the border line are black/dark grey, and a little
part is white or transparent or completely missing. If I compare this to
Kendy's Linux screenshot at

http://artax.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~kendy/blog/pics/updated-rulers.png

I get the impression that the white/transparent/missing part of the border line
on MacOS X is just an error: on Linux, the complete border line is black/dark
grey.

You can see this on my Writer screenshots attached to bug 49914:
* old look (3.5.4):  attachment 61808
* new look (3.6 Master): attachment 62061

But to make it even easier to see what I mean, I have created a little
comparison of the old and the new look with Kendy's Linux screenshot which I
will attach as PNG image to this bug report.

The visual problem is visible both in Writer and in Impress, therefore
Component = "UI". The screenshots have been created with the Master build dated
2012-05-24, but the rulers look still the same in newer builds (I have tested
2012-05-28).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 50504] New: EDITING: Can not add characters at the beginning of a cell which have a very long first line

2012-05-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50504

 Bug #: 50504
Summary: EDITING: Can not add characters at the beginning of a
cell which have a very long first line
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.4 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Spreadsheet
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: pierre-louis.bonic...@gmx.fr

Problem description:

Can not append text at the beginning of a cell if the first line of the edited
cell contains more than 16366 characters.

Reproduced with LibreOffice 3.5.3 and LibreOffice 3.5.4 rc2.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch LibreOffice
2. Create a new Spreadsheet
3. Create a string containing 16367 charaters: edit a cell and type the
following formula:
=REPT("a";16367)
4. Copy the content of the cell using "ctrl+c"
5. select another cell
6. paste only the text (not the formula) using "paste special" (with
"ctrl+maj+v" and check only "Text")
7. Activate "edit mode" on the selected cell using "F2" key
8. Go to the beginning of the cell using "ctrl+home"
9. Type some characters, the characters don't appears and are not added

Note that if the cell with a very long first line is edited but not modified:
- with "F2", "ctrl+home" or "ctrl+end", "enter" then the height of the row is
increased (or first line is splitted?)
- with "F2", "enter" then the height of the row is not modified

Current behavior:

Can not add characters at the beginning of a cell which have a first line with
more than 16367.

Expected behavior:

Can add characters at the beginning of a cell which have a first line with more
than 16367.

A crash like this on MacOSX is related to the installation of some version of
Free Sans and appears to crash in MacOSXs own font code, This one though is on
windows, so quite probably different. Nevertheless any fonts installed that
didn't come pre-installed by Windows itself ?

Total memory is not the issue: just ran a test, after starting LibO memory
usage goes up from 1.7 GB to just 1.8 GB memory usage (of 4 GB total) and then
LibO crashes. Processes remain 'running' in the background and after killing
those I'm back at 1.7 GB. Nothing special except those crashes. Perhaps some
timing issues?

It is normal that soffice.bin exits early (with a special exit code of 81)
whenever it detects that the bundled and/or shared extensions are not in sync
with the corresponding user profile data (which is esp. the case when a new
user profile directory is created). However, the outer soffice.exe should
restart soffice.bin when it exits with the special code of 81. Would be
strange if that mechanism stopped working.
