[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48709] EDITING Writer: if reduce size of inserted picture, crops picture

2012-06-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48709

--- Comment #1 from Walter Rudametkin rudamet...@gmail.com 2012-06-15
01:48:55 PDT ---
Hi,

I'm seeing this bug in LibreOffice 3.5.4.2, has there been any progress? It
appears to have been reported at Ubuntu on 2011-08-23

apt-cache policy libreoffice-writer
libreoffice-writer:
  Installed: 1:3.5.4-3

In my case, the percentage of the image that is lost varies. The more you
reduce the image size the more it is cropped. I thought at first that the
effect was only a display issue, but converting to pdf produces a cropped image
too.

Cropping occurs even at the original size, but to the best of my very short
tests, it occurs only on the top, left and bottom parts of the image. The right
size doesn't appear to crop. I tested png and svg images.

A small workaround I found is to crop (i.e., Format-Picture-Crop) the image
at between -1 and -1/2 cm to recover the lost parts of the image.

Regards

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 50697] EDITING: terrible memory leak with documents containing PostScript (.eps) images

Text document to easily reproduce the leak

OK, took me some work, but I managed to find out the root cause of the bug.
It's not EPS images in general, it's *cropped* EPS (and maybe others) images.

With the attached document, you can reproduce this at will with 3.6.0beta1 .
You just have to insert a handful of line breaks and/or page breaks somewhere
in the beginning of the text, and it will somehow invalidate the thumbnails
that were previously created for the pictures. Then, just scroll down the doc,
and you will see the memory and CPU use raise, and Writer hang for a few
second.

It really looks like changing the layout in some way acts like opening the
document from scratch again, except that previously used memory is not freed.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 38948] FILESAVE - Calc does not save the solver's model to files

2012-06-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38948

--- Comment #6 from Gerald Senarclens de Grancy o...@senarclens.eu 2012-06-15
01:53:05 PDT ---
I have a question regarding the feasibility of this request. It has been argued
over and over that w/ the current version of the odf specification it is not
possible to store the solver's model. However, as of January 2012 OASIS has
released ODF 1.2 which includes the possibility of storing meta data:
http://docs.oasis-open.org/office/v1.2/os/OpenDocument-v1.2-os-part3.html#__RefHeading__752819_826425813
Shouldn't it be possible to save/ load the model(s) to/from metadata files?

I have the same problem! I want to use L.O. for teaching, but this bug really
gets in the way, and I keep going back to MS Office...

(In reply to comment #2)
 (In reply to comment #1)
I vote for changing the importance of this bug to be at least normal for
  two
  reasons:
  - it would be critical if after entering a formula in a cell, instead of the
formula, only the outcome (number) is saved to file - which is basically
  what
happens with the solver objective and constraints.
  - this particular bug prevents (business) schools/ universities from
  teaching
Libreoffice instead of Microsoft (and has been ignored by OpenOffice for
  about
  three years).

I second this vote. I'm a college student currently going through operations
research subjects which require linear programming as part of its syllabus,
 and
so far LO Calc has been a big help in solving cases on integer programming
we're being given in class. However, the lack of a save function shocked me
when I discovered that my previously lengthy model in one particular problem
all but disappeared when I reopened the file at a later time.

This sounds like much more than a feature request. It's functionality that's
missing, because no one in their right mind would create anything more than
 the
most basic of LP models using Calc knowing that they would have to rebuild it
 EVERY SINGLE SESSION.

I read in a similar bug post (32063) that implementing it would require
changing the ODF spec. I propose for the solver to simply not save the model
 in
the same *.ods file as the spreadsheet from which it is built, but rather in a
separate file. I find this to be an elegant solution, since the implementer of
the language solver would use to save the data is unconstrained to pick from
any of the plentiful (and open) LP languages out there, with my own preference
of GAMS. It would furthermore be highly portable, meaning it could be loaded
onto any other spreadsheet and run independent of the original basis of the
 model.

@Fabio Graziosi:
Thank you very much for your report! I'm sorry that it has not been answered
for a long time, but we don't have enough QA volunteers to handle all that bugs
...

However, there are good news: There has been much progress about the import of
.docx files in the last months. If I open your sample file with LibreOffice
3.5.4, I get the impression that it looks much more like in MS Office 2010 than
before; e.g., the headers are present now.

Could you please try this yourself?

Just download the current version of LibreOffice (3.5.4, or, in some days,
3.5.5 with even more fixes) and open the your file. Please report here anything
which still looks wrong.

This would be very helpful! Thank you very much in advance!

Sorry, but since rebooting my system a few times, and restarting libreoffice
3.5, it now works as it did in libo 3.4.

However it would be much better to by default use the backspace/delete key to
delete a cell unconditionally, since it is large and in a standard location,
and the tiny delete key whose location varies from keyboard to keyboard, to
delete a cell selectively.
That is how most editing applications work, and not only OpenOffice.
It is much more user-friendly.

The heritage mode is a workaround, but since its' stated purpose is to keep
OpenOffice style shortcut keys, a lot of people are being unnecessarily forced
to use those shortcut keys, which is likely to make end-user support more
complicated.

Other Word processors also allow to place something outside of page. It is not
bad, even handy.
Problem in another: why objects outside of page are invisible? They should be
visible (more handy variant). Or should be some marks that indicates that
outside of page something exist.

It doesn't work with LibO 3.6 Beta 1. Shall I close the bug?

Classification: Unclassified

   Version: LibO 3.5.4 release
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: critical

Created attachment 63067
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=63067
Original RTF-template file

There are some bug in Open Office 3.5.4.2. Saving this original_file.rtf again
in RTF-format causes crash when it's opened again with Libre Office.

When I open this attached original_file.rtf everything seems to be ok. When I
save this file again in RTF-format with different filename file seems to be
saved ok.

When I open created new file then some serious bug happens. Libre Office
crashes.

There might be some encoding issue. This original_file contains letters ö and ä
(a with dots and o with dots).

Regards,
Tapio Andersson

Thanks for the fix - I assume that it will also be used when only selection
is exported?

if you write fdo#43060 instead of bug 43060 somewhere in the first line of
the commit message, the checkin would be announced automatically :-)
###
Marco Cecchetti committed a patch related to this issue.
It has been pushed to master|release-branch:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=d6b82f7bcb5123db56eb9acf4a3f3c2c90319606

In order to fix bug 43060 the width and height attributes are exported with
units (mm) for the svg element when a single slide/page is exported.

It will be available in whatever version the release-branch it did land in
ends up.
#
(so far it has only been added to master, so still needs to be cherry-picked
for libreoffice-3.6)

Good morning, Sasha,

I am now running LibreOffice 3.5.4.2
Build ID: 165a79a-7059095-e13bb37-fef39a4-9503d18

I had forgotten to retest but have now done so, and it looks
excellent.

The test document I have attached is a difficult one, having
started many years ago in WordPerfect, edited any times,
imported into LibreOffice, and edited several times. It's a mix
of various odd fonts and graphics so rendering is not perfect in
some areas - but that's a different matter. I would say the bug
is fixed - on the basis of limited testing.

Kind regards,

Henry Strobel

Confirmed. Works fine with LibO 3.4.5 = regression.

Doesn't work with LibO 3.5.4, LibO 3.6 Beta1, and LOdev 3.7 (master -
2012-06-14, Win-x86@6-fast; Build ID: 5af60dc). Layout is damaged, the RTF
document has 17 or more (sixty with LibO 3.4.5) pages instead of 9.

When opened with Word 2007, a message that a table has been damaged is
displayed.

Tested under Windows XP and Windows Vista 64.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 51119] New: EDITING: OLE objects from writer are impossible to manage

2012-06-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51119

 Bug #: 51119
Summary: EDITING: OLE objects from writer are impossible to
manage
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.4 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Presentation
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: silva...@katamail.com

a writer file where you can copy the text that doesnt go well in Impress

Problem description:
copying a writer text object (e.g. simply a text paragraph from a writer doc
currently open) and pasting it in Impress as is is (i.e. as a writer object)
gives you severely unpredictable results. the size of the pasted object, the
visibility of its content, its similarity to the original object are all deeply
unpredictable.

It is unfortunately very easy to give an example:
1. open the attached original odt file.odt, and select and copy the large
sized title at the beginning
2. open a new impress presentation, and paste what you copied into the first
page
3. You get a rectangular object with nothing visible; if you double click on
it, you'll see the text of the original title, but when you click outside to
end the edit nothing is visible anymore.
4. To actually see the text in the object, you have to enlarge it a lot; then
you see the text in it, but it will likely be split on two lines!
5. when you double click on it after enlarging, the text will be shown on a
single line and back at the upper left corner of the object; moreover, while
the open object has a grey thick border with some small black handles at its
corners, on the right side only you will have also the more common green
handles of selected objects, but they will be slightly to the right of the
object, as if they were suspended in a vacuum. It is not clear if they make
sense (and what sense) or are only a bug.
6. now drag one of the black handles on the right side of the object while
open, and resize it making it smaller: while you do it, it seems possible, and
the text shrinks as being squeezed. However when you click outside to finish
editing, the object returns to its previous size and the last edit described is
totally lost.
There are a few more glitches that could be described, but it would make this
message really too long. I would say that the whole functionality concerning
writer ole objects needs thorough revision.
Notice that, while writer OLE objects behaviour in Open Office has never been
fully reliable, things seem to have turned for the worse lately. Right now, the
only thing to do if you want to stay on the safe side is to completely avoid
using such functionality.
Which is a bit annoying, since a writer object has much more flexibility than
an impress text object (e.g. you can get hyphenation, which you don't have in
impress text objects).
Thank you for your patience, Andrea

 ODK warning/build errors

Having built the ODK from master today, I am enclosing a text file containing
 the errors/warnings that doxygen generated.

I will have a look at some of these and see if I can correct anything, but the
missing parameter errors for some of the methods are beyond my reach - how is
one supposed to find those out, other than by trial and error, if they aren't
documented ?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 51121] New: : Documents produced by LO 3.5.x and 3.4.x fail to open correctly when sent through Outlook Web Access

2012-06-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon

 Bug #: 51121
Summary: : Documents produced by LO 3.5.x and 3.4.x fail to
open correctly when sent through Outlook Web Access
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.5.4 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Libreoffice
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: charles.sch...@documentfoundation.org

Problem description:

Documents produced by LO 3.5.x and 3.4.x fail to open correctly when sent
through Outlook Web Access; issue not existing in AOO or OOo3.3.The document
cannot be open, but if unzipped and zipped, then it open correctly.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a document in LO or edit an existing one, save it under ODF.
2. Send it through OWA (Outlook Web access)
3. After reception, it's impossible to open the received document.
4. Unzip the received document; zip it again
5. You can now open it.

Current behavior:

Basically one cannot open the document that has been created under LO and sent
through Outlook Web Access. If the document has been created under OOo 3.3 or
AOO, LO will be able to open it.

Expected behavior:

The document should open normally and unzipping , then zipping it should not be
necessary to open the document.

Platform (if different from the browser):
Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Confirmed. Works fine with LibO 3.4.5 = regression.

Doesn't work with LibO 3.5.4 and LOdev 3.7 (master - 2012-06-14,
Win-x86@6-fast; Build ID: 5af60dc). No crashes for me. Tested with Windows XP
and Vista 64.

Possible encoding problem with 3.5.4 (chinese signs); this seems to work in
LOdev 3.7.

Both 3.5.4 and 3.7 have a problem with tables. This can be a duplicate of one
of the rtf table bugs.

It's common for mail-virus-scanners to do things with mails.

What's the diff between the sent and received document? And between the
received and rezipped document?

What you you open the document with, in step 3) and 5) ? Libreoffice?

I tried with LO 3.5.0alpha0+ (Build ID: b32ae7f) and send an .odt via OWA,
works great for me. But the doc is unchanged.

I see this problem also in LO-3.4. I guess that we havn't implemented DOCX
import/export of the connectors yet. So, it is not a regression and it can't
block the release = reducing the severity a bit.

Hmm, LO-3.4 shows the connectors on wrong position even in ODT import. LO-3.6
is even worse. We do strange job here.

To even begin to try to work around this horrible Outlook (or more likely
Outlook virus checker) stupidity - assuming it can be worked around I need the
following:

* a very simple document for which this is the case: Hello World in writer
would do.

* the -identical- simple document when loaded and re-saved in Apache
OpenOffice.

Now we need to take these two documents and send them through the mail server
verify that it destroys -only- the LibreOffice one.

Then - please attach both of the documents (clearly labelled) to the bug.

Then we can look at the difference and try to suggest some fixes; perhaps it is
work-around-able, perhaps not.

Without that, it's impossible to know why a given Outlook/Exchange setup we
don't have access to is truncating certain documents to zero length.
