> When I started LO after that, it re-created a "3" folder (and subfolders).

That's expected
> The flash screen lasted for 2-3 minutes (showing status that LO is loading
> various components). But after that it just vanished.

The vanishing might be caused by an other "Bug 43989 - After installation first
launch terminates after splash screen". That should have been fixed for
3.6.0.0.beta2, but I do not know whether anything is known concerning remaining
damages caused by that bug

> I tried to launch LO a
> couple of times, with the same result. (Each time the flash screen vanished).

I doubt that that can be explained by that "other bug"

> Finally I checked the Process Explorer, and found 6-7 sets of soffice.exe.
> Apparently each of these processes had launched an instance of soffice.bin.

I think that is a result of your problem, not the reason

> I killed them all, and again launched LO. This time it got launched OK.

That is interesting, My experience with Bug 43989 was that the soffice.bin was
terminated after the silent crash, but there might have been variants.

> I was about to install 3.6.1.1 on this PC. Should I go ahead or wait for
> further instructions?

Currently I am tending to hope that you suffered from an "aggressive variant"
of Bug 43989. I recommend to install 3.6.1.1 (what works much better than
3.6.0) and to start with a new user profile. There were lots of problems (most
in bundled extensions) and the fixing still is in progress.

But please keep you replaced profile, if your problem reappears comparison of
profile versions might help to understand you problem.

Thanks a lot for your samples!
I send all of them to my OWA-Account with following results:

LibO original 1: works
LibO original 2: works
LibO original 3: does not work - 100 byte
LibO original 4: works
LibO rezipped 1: works
LibO rezipped 2: works
LibO rezipped 3: works
LibO rezipped 4: works

As you can see only the spreadsheet-file (Sample 3) makes some trouble but
after rezipping the problem is gone, great.
Maybe some other could check also with OWA.

There is something wrong with fixed lines in reportbuilder reports for a long
time... See e.g. bug 33617, bug 52471, ...

I wouldn't be too surprised if the ultimate reason for all these bugs were one
and the same.

Yes, such a user-individual possibility sounds very promising. Can you consider
in your thoughts that for some people an "Input only day" possibility is
rather important? For example for accountancies or project flow planning I
often have to input lots of lots of dates, most for a time today +- 2 weeks,
into a list of prepared contents. For such it's significant extra work if you
have to add day + month instead of only day (for 90% of the entries).

--- Comment #10 from narayana...@hotmail.com 2012-08-23 05:42:04 UTC ---
Here is the remaining feedback about the OS version:

The "Not OK" PC has 32-bit Win7 Professional, SP-1.
(In comparison, the "OK" PC has 32-bit Win7 Ultimate.)
***

@Renaming the "3" folder in the user profile path:
I did that.
When I started LO after that, it re-created a "3" folder (and subfolders).

Note: In the following description, I have clicked on the LO's icon in the
launch bar to launch LO. I did not use any other method (such as clicking on a
file associated with LO). But if you think it is necessary, I will repeat the
experiment exactly as you wish.

The flash screen lasted for 2-3 minutes (showing status that LO is loading
various components). But after that it just vanished. I tried to launch LO a
couple of times, with the same result. (Each time the flash screen vanished).

I kept on trying. But it stopped responding totally (No flash screens also).

Finally I checked the Process Explorer, and found 6-7 sets of soffice.exe.
Apparently each of these processes had launched an instance of soffice.bin.

In other words, I saw 6-7 sets of-
soffice.exe
\_soffice.bin

And that's not all: I also saw an equal number of soffice.bin (or was that
exe?) running on their own (not a bin-exe pair).

I killed them all, and again launched LO. This time it got launched OK.

I was about to install 3.6.1.1 on this PC. Should I go ahead or wait for
further instructions?

Thanks in advance

-Narayan

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report. Is it possible to upload the file to a 'free
upload' website so we can try to reproduce? (search on google, there are plenty
of them).

Kind regards

Reproducable under Mac OSX 10.8; LO 3.6.1.1 (build id: 4db6344); Dutch Language
pack.

Also tested with 'Word for Mac 2011'. The logo should be in the middle + there
is a bit to much spacing between two lines. There is also a align problem.

For consistency (following the 'ro' ISO code) the list entry should be
"Romanian (Moldova)" and "Romanian" be changed to "Romanian (Romania)".

It's called Moldovan in Moldova, so Moldovan localization may prefer to
translate it as Moldovan.

B.J. Herbison: sorry, I was wrong. I read
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/How_to_get_a_backtrace_with_WinDbg in
details and for the moment, there's no "ready to download" a build with
symbols.

For the moment, meanwhile this tracker
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50350 isn't solved, you can build
LO yourself and enable symbols.

it appears the check sum does not match file check sum im PE optional Header.

sbase Checksum: 0001A8C0,does NOT match file checksum 00018915

scalc Checksum: 00014863,does NOT match file checksum 000128B0

now, who was refactoring bookmarks in OOo 3.2 ?

it seems the difference that causes this is that
SwXBookmarks::getElementNames() returns CrossRefBookmarks

while previously it did only return real bookmarks.

now how do we check for crossref there...

--- Comment #1 from Horst 2012-08-22 20:06:55 UTC ---
I was a bit pocking around and found 2 workarounds.
1.Workaround:
To avoid getting the symbols for 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 one has to disable the
Autocorrect Function first.
Tools > Autocorrect Options.. > Tab:Option, uncheck "Use Replacement Table"
(Excel does not have replacement for the 3 symbols)

2.Workaround:
Use + or = before entering the fraction.
I consider this at least half a bug which should be fixed in the future.

In OS X 10.6, LibreOffice 3.6.0.4 OOO360m1(Build:104): It does not work to open
multiple files by selecting them in Finder and opening them, neither by
double-clicking nor dragging to the dock icon.
This is with a clean install, no preferences changed. (Old prefs. folders
deleted).
I don't consider it very power-user:y to open multiple files at once.
Error message:
"filename1_with_full_path [newline]
filename2_with_full_path does not exist"

Using the open-dialog it works, as been said by Roman Eisele.

--- Comment #11 from abugrepor...@gmail.com 2012-08-22 19:24:19 UTC ---
There are a couple of program to open a font with KDE, but the truth is that no
user cares which program it needs. All a user wants is the easiest possible
installation of fonts and drag and drop of font files is one such feature which
people expect these days.

Everything below is directed at Florian Reisinger:
This is a bug, because an actual user tells you it is a bug, I am not sure how
you unilaterally can say that it isn't. If you continue to close this bug, I
will just reopen it, for the simple reason that I strongly suspect that you
didn't let $NON-TECHNICAL user on Linux try to solve this problem. Somehow I
suspect that you didn't do this and as such you are just expressing some lame
opinion based on your lack of experience and/or incompetence.

I am not even opening this bug for myself. I am doing this as a favor for
someone else.

The fix for this problem is very simple: just implement drag and drop as has
been done in thousands of programs already around the world. If this is too
difficult for you, please just go to some other project (for example, taking
care of your garden or something else low-tech, but stop wasting time in
technical projects on problems which do have solutions).

I submitted this project a long time ago. I suspect the reason you are so eager
to close this bug is because the rest of the project is full of bugs and that
you can then put on your resumé that you fixed some bugs in LibreOffice, while
in fact you contributed nothing and only walked in the way of others.

To the LibreOffice project, I'd suggest to kick Florian Reisinger out of the
project as he clearly has a lack of judgement, which is usually fatal to a
software project. If he committed anything, I would also strongly urge you to
go over his commits, because usually such people cannot write software in the
first place.

If you would rather have that I tell the users in question that LibreOffice
developers would like them to take a hike (which is essentially what you are
saying now), then I will likely tell them to just reboot the machine, install
Word20 or whatever it is and tell them to use that. It doesn't
matter to me one bit, just don't go crying when you have nobody using your
software in a few years.

I'd rather introduce a general "edit date acceptance patterns" field than have
yet another option that serves just one specific purpose. And may be misleading
for locales that use Y-M-D with M-D abbreviation anyway.

--- Comment #17 from Michael Stahl 2012-08-22 18:30:20 UTC

so now i've finally had some time to read the lengthy description here :)
and it's immediately obvious that the cause is:

 commit 062eaeffe7cb986255063bb9b0a5f3fb3fc8e34c

sw: Improved document comparison based on RSIDs.

so i think this is actually a feature, the "rsid" attributes are added
to styles so the "document compare" feature gives better results.

to what extent are the added spans an actual problem?
while it is nice to illustrate the problem, i'd say no actual user writes
a bunch of s into a document, saves it, loads it again and
intersperses that with Ts.

you can configure this via Tools->Options->Writer->Comparison,
but it seems that only has an effect on the actual comparison,
i.e. unchecked "Use RSID" will still cause them to be generated,
they're just ignored when you compare documents.

only thing odd to me is that in the simplest case we get a paragraph
and inside that a span covering the entire content, both with the
same rsid value, but different attributes (one a paragraph-rsid);
i'm not familiar with how these things actually work to tell
whether that is necessary.

"It crashes like "crash" (memory dump, Windows Erroring, a line in event
viewer,
etc.)"

I am not really familiar enough with Windows to know when a program crashes vs.
when it just exits silently. I believe moving the mouse prompted the stuck
splash screen to disappear. Can someone familiar with Vista tell me where I can
view core dumps, windows error logs, and the event viewer?

Also, timing was from glancing at the clock in the lower right and is
approximate. I was not timing it until the symptoms occurred. The slowness of
the system was due to heavy paging, caused by the about 150 tabs I have had
open for the past month, all of which relate to things I am half‐way through
working on when my boss gives me a new task. The laptop in question only has 40
GB of disk space and 2 GB of RAM.

Further to this report, I have not had a silent exit since the first launch
(although there've plenty of other crashes in the last 48 hours, relating to
incomplete .ods archives as I try to write one out that LibreOffice can read).

No, doubleclicking the font andress install ( without sitting in front of a
Windows machine..

BTW: This seems to me like a "notabug". Libreoffice is IMHO not supposed to be

Hm, I can still reproduce this bug with LibreOffice 3.6.1.1 (Build ID:
4db6344), German langpack installed, on MacOS X 10.6.8 (Intel) -- if I open it,
it still looks like on Timon’s screenshot. I double-checked this, it’s really
true!

Therefore, if this bug appears as fixed for Valek, I see two explanations:
a) The bug does not appear on Linux, only on Windows and MacOS X.
b) The bug does depend on the locale used --
I have German locale here, but which locale do you use, Valek? Maybe
Russian,
and therefore a different default character set?

I need to set the status of this bug to NEW.

--- Comment #4 from Roman Eisele 2012-08-22 16:20:17 UTC ---
Oh, wait a minute: two additional questions, very important!

Looking at your "stack trace post-crash", I see that it contains many many
references to accessibility stuff. This may be the reason for this crash,
because we have heavy problems in LibreOffice when MacOS accessibility features
are enabled.

Therefore, two very important questions:

1) Do you have any accesibility features enabled? Apple’s accessibility
features like "VoiceOver" or "Enable access for assistive devices", which get
enabled in "System Preferences > Universal Access" (in German:
"Bedienungshilfen"; dont’t know about other languages), are known to cause many
crashes in LibreOffice (see bug 47368). So please try to disable any
accesibility features, i.e. uncheck "VoiceOver", "Enable access for assistive
devices", etc.

2) Do you have installed any window management/user interface utilities/apps
for MacOS X like
* Moom  (see bug 42014)
* Cinch (see bug 51791)
* RightZoom (see bug 51686)
* ShiftIt   (see bug 52147)?
All these and many similar utilities rely heavily on accessibility issues and
therefore cause LibreOffice to crash. So please check if you have installed any
utility of this kind and try to disable it (or to add LibreOffice to the list
of excluded applications for the utility, if there is such a thing).

Disabling both Apple’s accessibility features and all
accessibility-related/window management utilities, and then re-starting your
Mac could fix the LibreOffice crash. Please try this.

Thank you very much for trying this out (and please report the results here,
too)!

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 53240] : EDITING CRASH Insert custom field "x-y" with content "x-y"

2012-08-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53240

--- Comment #3 from Roman Eisele 2012-08-22 16:10:39 UTC ---
Created attachment 65968
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=65968
Screenshot: The Fields dialog, entering variable called "x-y" is not possible

I tried "with a Mac" ;-), i.e. with LibreOffice 3.6.1.1 on MacOS X 10.6.8
(Intel).

Interesting enought, I can’t reproduce this issue, but only because I can’t
even define a variable with name "x-y".

What I did:
1) Start LibreOffice
2) Create a new Writer document
3) Select "Insert > Fields > Other..." from the menu bar
   -> Dialog window "Fields" appears
4) In the dialog window, select tab "Variables";
5) Select Type: "Set variable" and Format: "Text";
6) now I try to type "x-y" into field "Name",
but this is impossible: the '-' gets lost, the name is "xy" now,
probably because '-' is not allowed in variable names.

Needless to say that I can’t reproduce the crash either; defining and inserting
"x" (value: "x") and "xy" (value: "x-y") works as expected.

@Petri Aukia:

Please take a look at my steps listed above. Is this the same thing you did? Or
did you something else, I mean, did you define the variable in another way, and
therefore you could define a variable with name "x-y" (including the '-')? The
'-' may well be the reason for the crash ...

Thank you very much in advance for your answer!

(Or was this bug fixes somewhere in the 3.6.1.1 development process, so that I
can’t reproduce it because I use 3.6.1.1 instead of 3.6.0.4? You can try this
yourself: please download 3.6.1.1 -- or, coming soon, 3.6.1.2 -- from
  http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/
and try if it fixes the crash ...)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 49350] 10x speedup of saving a new entry to a large autocorrect replacement table

2012-08-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49350

--- Comment #26 from tommy27 2012-08-22 15:59:27 UTC ---
Yes, let's hope that as an easy hack this issue will be soon fixed.

As an additional information, the “freeze” only happens when saving new entries
in the “replacement table GUI mode”.

If you save a new entry with “right click autocorrect suggestions” there's no
freeze at all, so I suspect that there's something wrong with the GUI mode.

Just to be clear, LO recognised MM-DD in the 3.5 release, so this has changed
in 3.6. Also this is a problem for all date formats, not just -MM-DD. If I
format a cell with any date format and enter 08-12 or 8-12 or anything with a
dash, LO doesn't recognise this as a date and apply formatting.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 52523] MAILMERGE from print menu: Messed up elements (footers, tables, graphics)

2012-08-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52523

--- Comment #6 from zap 2012-08-22 15:36:06 UTC ---
I have a new interesting observation (LO 3.5.5.3):
During mailmerge I chose to print single PDF files (for each data set) - and
all of them were okay!
Mailmerging to one big PDF file produced the same mess as printing to a PDF
driver or to a real printer.
Again, this points to the direction of an error during some preprocessing which
sometimes isn't necessary (e.g. there is no preview in this file print mode)...

--- Comment #5 from narayana...@hotmail.com 2012-08-22 15:29:19 UTC ---
Well, Bug#51252 was also reported by me.

But this time the symptoms are different.

This time the GUI goes "all white" (foggy) and the Windows pops up the message
"LibreOffice 3.6 has stopped working".

It offers two options to the user:
(a) find solution on the web and close the program,
(b) Close the program.

This is distinct from the runtime error reported in bug#51252.

Besides, I already have reported that deleting the extension folder does not
resolve the issue.

That said, there is a common factor also:

Out of my two PCs (both running win 7), only one suffered from Bug#51252. The
other PC was not affected at all. This bug has affected them in exactly the
same way. But now deleting the extension folder does not resolve the issue.

Found a workaround for this bug when using gradients, that you have to apply to
each fontwork object in turn:

[1] Make a fontwork object and set fill to gradient
[2] On the object:
Right-click>Area...>Area>Untick 'Automatic' under 'Increments.

"from catalog", that is it. You can only insert it, if you open the symbol
catalog, select it there and click 'Insert'-button.

I have expected, that it would be possible to use the form with the % sign. But
for those who want collecting the formula parts by clicking with the mouse it
is OK with the catalog.

When the feature gets its help texts, it should be mentioned, that you must use
the symbol catalog.

I'll close the issue.

If I understand correctly, the point in question is in "such as multi-national
companies which sponsor research at the University" under point 4 of
"Essential" under "Selection criteria" (page 5).

This sentence should read "... multi-national companies ...", but Writer
displays this with a special kind of space as "... multi national companies
