Adding bug 55524 - “UI: Hang when accessing ‘Insert > Manual Break...’”.

Endless hang, at least on Mac OS X. Introduced between 27th and 30th September.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 55524] New: UI: Hang when accessing "Insert > Manual Break..."

2012-10-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55524

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 55524
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: UI: Hang when accessing "Insert > Manual Break..."
  Severity: critical
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Mac OS X (All)
  Reporter: b...@eikota.de
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.7.0.0.alpha0+ Master
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 67967
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=67967&action=edit
Log file for hang in LOdev 2012-09-30, on Mac OS X 10.6.8

When I try to access the “Insert Break” dialog window via “Insert > Manual
Break...”, LOdev hangs indefinitely.

I have observed this in the LOdev build:
  LOdev 3.7.0.0.alpha0+, build ID: 3f84462b, pull time: 2012-09-30 06:38:06

The problem is NOT present in this build:
  LOdev 3.7.0.0.alpha0+, build ID: 30d33b1, pull time: 2012-09-27 04:27:30

So a regression in a 3 days timeframe; maybe related to the (cool!) new
WidgetLayout -- did something go wrong in the conversion? Other dialogs touched
by the conversion (Word count, “Paragraph”, etc.) are still accessible.

Steps to reproduce:
0) Rename your user profile folder, in order to preclude any influence
   of special settings etc.
1) Start LOdev;
-> The Start Center window appears.
2) Click on the “Text Document” button;
-> A new, empty Writer window opens.
3) Select “Insert > Manual Break...” from the menu bar;
   -> expected result: the “Insert Break” dialog window opens;
-> actual result: LOdev hangs indefinitely.

NB: No Mac OS Accessibility options or related utilities activated!

I attach the log file created by Mac OS X when I had to force-quit LOdev. To
me, the end of the stack trace:
  5 Window::ImplGrabFocus(unsigned short) + 335 (in libvcllo.dylib) [0x237399f]
  4 Window::ImplGrabFocus(unsigned short) + 341 (in libvcllo.dylib) [0x23739a5]
  2 Window::ImplGrabFocus(unsigned short) + 353 (in libvcllo.dylib) [0x23739b1]
  2 Window::ImplGrabFocus(unsigned short) + 351 (in libvcllo.dylib) [0x23739af]
looks like some infinite recursion, but the developers will know better ;-)

Thanks. To explain the need; in a long document like a technical spec, one is
often referring to a particular page or diagram. It's quite ease to use the
scroll bar to get to page one. It's harder to find the particular page you
often reference. Perhaps there could be an option in Settings to (a) always
open on first page of document; or (b) open on page most recently viewed. I
would prefer making option b the default, but that's just me.

LO compiles fine on glibc 2.15, which is right in-line with this Boost bug:
https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/6940

However, this is only a workaround, as downgrading glibc means barely anything
runs on my workstation (my package manager, X, etc. ...). Though, it did
compile in single-user mode.

LibreOffice 3.5.4.2
Build ID: 350m1(Build:2)
Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin)/Linux Mint 13 (maya)

I'm encountering this also. The "Position and Size" dialog for a graphic image
anchored to a cell references the absolute page position of the anchor, not
relative to the cell position. Changing the X/Y position to 0,0 causes the
image to move to the upper-left corner of the page, not the upper-left corner
of the cell. This isn't going to function properly with most types cell
manipulation (like sorting). Calc tries to hide the defect with copy/paste by
adjusting the absolute position but if the target cell is a different size then
the image is obviously positioned incorrectly.

In LibreOffice 3.6.1.2.
Create a new spreadsheet.

Fill rows 2 to 15 with a series starting with 35 and going up to 50.
Insert a row and keep inserting rows until the number 35 is on row 35.
Save the sheet and close it.

Re-open the sheet, the number 35 is now on row 37.

Now that is a problem.

and when I remove the comments in row 32 and row 33 the problem comes back and

This just rather random but reproducible.

I will leave using LibreOffice 3.6.x as this will cause problems.

ah LazyDeletor... that must be the relic of the 90s attitude of "real men don't
use reference counting", and to fix up the inevitable crash-fest resulting from
that this class was invented to delay the deletion until some later point when
hopefully nobody references it...

... so there's a SwMailMergeWizard, and there's AbstractMailMergeWizard, and in
between them there's AbstractMailMergeWizard_Impl of course... so i'd need to
add 3 forwarding methods to clean up that item set :(

further investigation reveals that the SwMailMergeOutputPage's
cloning of the SwDoc's printer appears to be unnecessary, removing that
appears to be simpler...

XLSX files with and without error

I have XLSX generated using "spreadsheetlight.com" library. These documents can
be opened without problems in MS Office (all version) OpenOffice (all versions)
but in Libre office there is a problem.

XLSX wont open if the metadata was set. When I do not set the metadata, the
document is opened well, when I will add a metadata, document wont open and
LibreOffice says: General Error. Input/output error.

Maybe is error in "spreadsheetlight.com" library, BUT these documents can be
opened in MS Office, so i thing they can be supported here too. Although
perhaps they contains errors.

In the attachements are two XLSX generated with the "spreadsheetlight.com"
library:

no-error.xlsx - is file without metadata - can be opened everywhere
error.xlsx - is file with metadata - cant open with LibreOffice (but in MS and
OO is opened well and metadata is shown correctly)

Same error i found on LibreOffice 3.5.*

I have found this problem exists in 3.6.1 and 3.6.2
I have not tested this in 3.6.0.

The problem does not exist in 3.5.6 and I can open the same spreadsheet and it
does not add an extra line close the the top of the sheet.

I removed many sheets in the workbook and the problem is still present.
I plan to try removing more data to see if any other factors are a cause.

The log file created by Mac OS X 10.6.8 for the LOdev (master) crash

For me, the stack trace in the log file created by Mac OS X 10.6.8 for the
LOdev (master) crash looks a little bit different from Phil Reilly’s log files;
IMHO the difference is not important, but nevertheless I attach a sample of
“my” log files.

Exactly (!) the same kind of crash is already reproducible on the same machine
with LazyMouse and LibreOffice 3.3.0; so this is very probably an old bug,
inherited from OpenOffice.org. → Adapted Version field to show (as required)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 54923] CRASH when clicking multiple times fast on default button, with LazyMouse enabled (related to Mac OS accessibility)

2012-10-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon

 Status|NEEDINFO|NEW
Summary|Crash when navigating |CRASH when clicking
   |options.|multiple times fast on
   ||default button, with
   ||LazyMouse enabled (related
   ||to Mac OS accessibility)

Ah, sorry -- now I got it, finally! ;-)

REPRODUCIBLE on Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Intel), with the preference pane LazyMouse
installed and activated, both with
* current master build: LOdev 3.7.0.0.alpha0+, build ID: 3f84462b,
  pull time: 2012-09-30 06:38:06;
* current 3.6 daily build: LibreOffice/LOdev 3.6.3.0+, build ID: 115add8,
  pull time: 2012-10-01 08:43:56

To reproduce, I have used the following steps:
1) Download the free trial version of LazyMouse, available from
   http://www.old-jewel.com/lazymouse/index.html
(you do not need to pay/register the preference pane to reproduce).
2) Install it by opening the .dmg file and then double-clicking the
installer file; follow the onscreen directions.
3) LazyMouse will prompt you to check the option “Enable access for
   assistive devices” in Apple’s “Universal Access” preferences pane;
   please do so.
4) Switch to the (new) LazyMouse preferences pane and start LazyMouse
by checking the option ”Whenever a new window appears, snap the
   cursor to the: Default button”.
   -> You do not need to change/check any other LazyMouse options;
in the following I assume that you leave the value of the
first popup menu as the default: “Default Button”.
5) Rename your LibreOffice user profile folder.
This step seems necessary: if you skip it, the crash happens
   *sometimes*, but not always.
(Cf. Phil Reilly’s hint, comment #2:
“these crashes seem to be more numerous after installing
a new version of LO & seem to be less numerous after subsequent
launches.” We can get the same effect by renaming the user profile
   folder.)
6) Start LibreOffice.
-> The Start Center window appears.
7) Select “LibreOffice > Preferences...” from the menu bar.
-> The dialog window “Options” appears:
-> it shows by default the first pane: “LibreOffice > User data”,
-> AND LazyMouse will move the cursor (pointer) automatically
   over the default button (“OK”).
8) Without moving the cursor at all, just click multiple times
very fast -- i.e., on the “OK“ button, over which the cursor is.
   -> LibreOffice crashes.

Instead of the preferences/“Options” dialog window, you can also use any (?)
other LibreOffice dialog window in which LazyMouse works, i.e. moves the cursor
automatically over the default button; e.g. in Writer’s “Format > Paragraph...”
dialog window. Just click multiple times fast on the default button.

I have adapted the summary to reflect this most easily reproducible scenario.

This is yet another bug related to LibreOffice code which is triggered when the
Mac OS X accessibility API is enabled; LazyMouse relies on the option “Enable
access for assistive devices”.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 55507] New: Frequent crashes on sheets with high number of textual content

2012-10-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55507

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 55507
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Frequent crashes on sheets with high number of textual
content
  Severity: critical
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: m.schipperh...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

I'm reporting a bug here that has been in Libreoffice 3.4.0 since I moved over
from OpenOffice. OpenOffice does not have this major issue and I don't even
know why I'm still using Libreoffice.

LibreOffice Calc crashes frequently. I have had this problem on all major
version releases since 3.4.0.

The file that always crashes is an Excel sheet that contains textual
translations for a website. Think lots and lots of columns filled with just
text and no calculations.

After a while of using the sheet, when you enter a new bit of text and press
ENTER, Calc will crash. Saving the file before you press enter, seems to
sometimes prevent a crash.

There is no clear indication of what leads to the crash other than the passage
of time and use of the sheet.

It's bloody annoying.

I found this problem during my research for "Bug 55430 - EDITING: Single mouse
click selection of element completely drawn in front of selected filled area
impossible"

Steps how to reproduce:
1. Download
   and

2. Check size of both documents, should be 11805 bytes
3. Upload one of the documents here (I did with SeaMonkey/2.12.1) as
   attachment
4. Download document again and save. If you suffer from the same problem as I
with
attachment 67868, attachment 67936, size now should be 11686 bytes, and
LibO
will not open the documents (form WIN files explorer or LibO File menu),
but give Error Message "General Error"

Works fine with upload / download to AOOo Bugzilla (see link above), so I think
it might be something with Bugzilla.

Can you please check upload / download with a document of your own to confirm
this issue before we change Component to FDO Bugzilla?

@ simonyan.so:

Thank you very much for your bug report!

However, it would be much easier to handle your report if you could describe in
some detail *what* is wrong about the formatting of this RTF file when you open
it in LibreOffice.

Do you happen to know if the formatting of this document correct in some
earlier version of LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org?

It would be even better if you could document the wrong formatting by some
screenshots, i.e. by a screenshot of the correct formatting (the document
opened in MS Office, or some earlier version of LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org, if
the formatting was correct there), and by a screenshot of the wrong formatting
in LibreOffice 3.6.

This would be very helpful. Thank you very much in advance!

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 44089] Calc FILEOPEN: Problem with opening file xml 2003 with DateTime value (data shown correctly, but time zeroed)

2012-10-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44089

Our application consists of a graphing program that is capable of exporting
date/time stamped data in multiple columns for further analysis by other
software. The time-of-day component of the date/time is critical to this task.
Currently this system has only the LO spreadsheet application installed for the
purpose of reading the Excel file. I will have to identify and install other
software for this task if I can't get LO to work by the time this application
goes into production.

It looks like the DateTime component uses date/time format in ISO 8601 which is
well documented and should be relatively simple to parse.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 47275] Autofilter CRASH on Mac OS X when Mac accessibility features (Universal Access) are enabled

I can confirm Maarten Brouwers’ results:

Using the current master build (LOdev 3.7.0.0.alpha0+, build ID: 3f84462b, pull
time: 2012-09-30 06:38:06), I have repeated my test from comment #21 and some
similar tests while RightZoom was running, and there is no crash anymore. So
the AutoFilter feature is usable again also for users of Mac
accessibility-related utilities. While testing, I have not noticed any unwanted
side-effects (regressions).

Therefore I set the status of this bug to VERIFIED/FIXED.

@ Tor Lillqvist:

Thank you very much for all your work in debugging and fixing this issue!

Not that I am aware of it. There is one (!) bug with the whiteboard (!) tag
INTEROPERABILITY, so you can add it here, too, but this will probably not help
very much … ;-) Once there was a very passionate QA volunteer who wanted to
create a list of all interoperability issues, to make it easier to track and
fix them, but he newer did what he announced :-(

So, what to do about this request now?

The best thing we could is to find some hacker who misses this feature, too,
and wants to add it. But at the moment, I don’t know whom to ask. Caolán
McNamara has implemented some similar features, cf. e.g.
bug 38983, but he is one of our most important developers and very busy, so I
hesitate to ask him. If you can think of some of our freelance contributors who
has done similar work, and could sparse some time for this, so please ask him
...

Or we can just wait and hope ;-)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 55156] Hang on accessing any pane in the application Options dialog, when Cinch is running (related to Mac OS accessibility)

2012-10-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55156

Roman Eisele changed:

   What|Removed |Added

   Assignee|libreoffice-b...@lists.free |tlillqv...@suse.com
   |desktop.org |

Thank you very much, Tor, for all your debugging work applied to this issue,
and for your patch, even if you just call it a “silly workaround”!

I have tested the new workaround with a current master build:
LOdev 3.7.0.0.alpha0+ (Build ID: 3f84462b, pull time: 2012-09-30 06:38:06),
on Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Intel), Cinch running as required.

I can confirm a big progress: there is no hang anymore (and no crash, as it was
caused by another a11y-related bug); the LibreOffice “Options” dialog window is
usable again even when Cinch is running.

Of course, there is still a noticeable delay when changing the options pane.
To see more easily what’s going on, open the Terminal, start “top”, and let it
run in the background while playing with LibreOffice. My observations:

* When I open the LibreOffice “Options” dialog, everything is fine (the CPU
usage of the soffice process jumps only for a second or not at all).

* As soon as I try to change the current options pane, there is a 1-2 seconds
dealy, and the CPU usage of the “soffice” process jumps to ca. 100%.
Interesting enough, it stays at that high level even after the new options pane
is visible. You can “feel” this also in the LibreOffice UI: changing anything
in the new options pane (e.g., typing something into an edit field, or just
checking a checkbox) works very slowly. But it works, of course, and this is a
big progress.

* If you change the options pane again, the same thing happens: a 1-2 seconds
delay, then the new options pane is visible, editing/changing anything is very
slow. CPU stays at more or less 100%.

* Even when I close the “Options” dialog window, and there is another
LibreOffice window open (Start Center or document window), the “soffice”
process first stays at 100% CPU usage; as soon as I click on the Start Center
or document window so that it gets the focus, the CPU usage goes down to normal
level (< 1%).

* If I close the “Options” dialog window, and there is no other LibreOffice
window open, not even the Start Center window (this is possible on Mac OS X,
not on Win), the CPU usage immediately goes down to normal level.

@ Tor (and Michael Meeks):

A big progress, and the main bug (the hang) is fixed now. Great!

Of course, it would be even better if we could get the CPU usage (which stays
at 100% after the first options pane change) down to a normal level again; this
would make it much easier to change anything in the “Options” window, and give
us back a good User experience. Do you see any chance to achieve this (without
too much additional work, of course)?

Anyway, thank you very much!

When hovering the top (or bottom) of a page, a blue button appears for adding a
header (footer). When a user clicks again the blue button to remove the header,
headers of all pages of the document are removed and thereby the view scrolls
to the top.

This is probably undesired in long documents, and also inconsistent because you
can add the (document-wide) header while working at a specific page, so
removing it should leave you at the same page.

I tested the 3.7.0.0 build today and I wasn't able to reproduce the bug, hence
I would consider it solved :) (Couldn't find a 3.6.3 pre-built nightly for OS-X

I'm happy that I'll soon be able to use BetterTouchTool again with LO :) Thank

Reproduced in 3.6.1 on Fedora 64 bit
Problem is: LO never wraps internet-links. Not only Calc, but other modules
too. As result, all documents with long links from msOffice looks different in
LO.
I do not know if it is bug or feature.

PS: double click described in Bug 39909 here in with link not works too.

  Hardware: x86 (IA32)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.6.1.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

The recent fonts list (the sub-list at the top of the font selection dialog)
should contain all recently selected fonts, regardless of how they were
selected. In reality, font selection must occur by explicitly clicking the font
in the font list; using the Enter key on the keyboard does *NOT* include the
selected font in the recent fonts list.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start a new document (the recent fonts list must be empty, i.e. hidden)
2. Write some text in the document
3. Select some of the text
4. Click on the font selection drop-down list
5. Type the first few letters of a font (e.g. "Cour")
6. Press key Enter on the keyboard
7. Reopen the font selection drop-down

Expected results: the recent fonts list should contain the newly-applied font.

Actual results: the recent fonts list is still empty.

Note: if the font is selected using a mouse click instead of the keyboard at
step (6) then the application behaves as expected.
