There's one feature in PowerPoint that I would very much like to have in
Impress. It's that soft-edge shadow for characters and images. Presently,
Impress only has a hard-edge one, which is good, but having a soft-edge one as
well would be great!

(P.S.: Don't bother too much the animations. Most professionals avoid them
anyway.)

I am on Version 3.6.5.2 (Build ID: 5b93205) with XPprof /SP3.

It would really be great if this bug could be fixed soon.

The workaround by sasha.libreoff...@gmail.com printing the Notes Pages via a
normal pdf-printer also has a bug: When printed in portrait format a part of
the information is cut off; see attachment: NotesPrintOutTest.pdf

For comparison I added a pdf-export of the same file

I can be contacted in case of additional questions.

I had this same problem on two of my computers, one at home and one at work. I
still have the problem on the one at home. At home I am running an ASUS
motherboard with INTEL Quad Core i5 and at work it is an HP with an AMD chip.

When I took a screen shot of the problem I got this first screen shot and
noticed that the screen changed after the first shot to what I have here for
the second shot.

I am running "Team Viewer" on both computers and feel that it's screen
duplicating system is at fault. I can work around this problem by clicking the
"Modify Layer" banner and dragging it a few pixels away and the text appears.

Libre Office is a wonderful program and works so well but then again, when I
see the reaction given to a single bug I can understand why.

Thank you so much for the help.

Might be. It was just unclear to me what you tried to track with this bug.

>

Ok. The blue border is another problem. But I think I finally have a clue what
is going wrong here. We are copying the ScAttrArray to the new row which
contains the old entries for the conditional format keys. These old keys point
however to different entries and therefore we have a different conditional
format. This could only happen in 4.0 with overlapping conditional formats as
we can have different conditional formats now in the same cell.
Before that the requirement that the conditional format in a cell must be
unique prevented this bug.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 61534] New: Calc: Select to block margin is severely broken

2013-02-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61534

  Priority: high
Bug ID: 61534
CC: jmadero@gmail.com
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Calc: Select to block margin is severely broken
  Severity: critical
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: crx...@hotmail.com
  Hardware: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.5.7.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

"Select to block margin" is a function that is, by default, mapped to
. It is used frequently in Calc to select large areas
of data for copy/paste. LibreOffice has somehow severely damaged the "Select
to block margin" function in Calc in two ways...

The first problem is extremely easy to see:

* Create a new spreadsheet.
* Place cursor in A1
* Press .

The correct behavior would be that the cells from A1 through A1048576 would be
selected and the display would show your cursor on A1048576. Instead, it
selects all those cells but leaves you sitting in cell A1 and without changing
your view at all.

The second problem is much, much worse, and also harder to illustrate:

* Create a new spreadsheet.
* Type a list of labels in the first column for several rows (A1:A4 or so).
For the test, you just need a few, but imagine it could be many thousands.
* Now place your cursor on B1.
* Put a formula in B1 that is=LEN(A1)
* Now use to copy that formula and then move your cursor to B2.
* Now we want to paste it down through the end of the data that exists in
column A. So press and hold . While not letting go of
, press then then . Then let go of
but continue holding and press , then .

The above method is a very common way to select areas for copying. But it is
broken the moment the user presses in the last line of the example above.
Imagine if column A had 20,000 rows/cells of data. Without this functionality
working, how would one copy a formula down the correct number of rows in column
B to match the number of rows in column A? With this broken behavior, it could
take hundreds of presses of the key while holding down
trying to do what would otherwise take a few keystrokes.

If these two problems are not clear from my description (the second one is hard
to describe) I will try to come up with a sequence of annotated screenshots or
something.

I have tested that this is NOT broken in OpenOffice 3.2.1, nor in 3.4!! But it
is broken in LibreOffice 3.5.7 and 4.0. This is a *HUGE* problem for my users.
Big enough that I think we can't migrate from OpenOffice to LibreOffice and I
just had to halt our rollout. Any serious spreadsheet user needs the ability
to properly/quickly "select blocks to margins" of data.

I made some more tests according migration of menu changes.

User profile created with version 3.6.5 release, UI: German
Migration tested with version 4.0.1.1, UI: German

Here are the results:

(1) Change order: Writer menu: File: „New“ moved on position down (below
„Open...“) (NOT MIGRATED)
Worked with Version 4.0.1.0+ (2013-02-19 08.45.16)
(2) Change order: Writer menu: Table > „Split cells...“: moved 3 postions lower
(below „Split table...“) (NOT MIGRATED)
(3) Add Item: Writer menu: „File“, „Extended tips“ added to last position (OK)
(4) Delete item: Writer menu: Format > „Styles and Formatting“ deleted (NOT
MIGRATED)
(5) Rename item: Writer menu: View, name of „Ruler“ changed (NOT MIGRATED)
(6) Change order in submenu: Writer menu: Format > Anchor > „To page“ moved to
the end of submenu (NOT MIGRATED)
(7) Add item in submenu: Writer menu: Item added to submenu „Insert“ > „Object“
(OK)
(8) Delete item in submenu: Writer menu: Edit > Changes > item „Comment...“
deleted (NOT MIGRATED)
(9) Rename item in submenu: Writer menu: Tools > Update > „Page Formatting“
renamed (OK)
(10) Rename default menu group. Writer menu: Is not possible. I don‘t know if
this is intended.
(11) Rename subgroup: Writer Menu: Insert > „Fields“ renamed (OK)
(12) Move group: Writer Menu: Move „Edit“ one position to the right (NOT
MIGRATED)
(13) Create new menu group in Writer menu: Add 3 random items to group and
additional one item with a submenu with 2 random items. New group with all
items is migrated, but the name of the group is not migrated. After migration
the wrong menu group name is „CustomMenu1“. The names of all menu items are
correct. (ONLY PARTLY MIGRATED)
(14) Change order: Calc menu: View > „Navigator“ moved up 4 postions (below
„Status Bar“) (NOT MIGRATED)
(15) Add item: Calc Menu: one item inserted in group „Data“ (OK)
(16) Delete item: Calc menu: Edit > item „Plug-in“ deleted (NOT MIGRATED)
(17) Another observations with all the menu changes above: Writer menu: View:
There are two items „Zoom“ with different functions in this menu group: The
item, which is wrong here opens the dialog „Zoom & View Layout“ (ITEM WRONGLY
ADDED)
(18) And another observations also with the menu changes above: Writer menu: In
group „File“ a submenu with 4 items has been wrongly inserted between „Digital
Signatures..“ and „Preview in Web browser“. The name of this submenu is
„TemplateMenu“. This name is not translated to German. The first item of the
submenu has not got name, i.e. there is only an empty place. (SUBMENU WRONGLY
ADDED)

Hi, thanks for including the attachment. I did some research, and I believe I
have found some other bug which indicates differences between LibreOffice
formatting. I will mark this as a duplicate of that bug, since the issues are
probably related.

I also see on the LibreOffice ask page that a user asked about formatting
differences. It might have to do with the availabilities of fonts and styles
between LibreOffice and MS-Word.

Problem description: Changing font color from Formatting toolbar doesn't work
as expected.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Highlight text
2. Go to font-color-change icon (the large"A" over a colored bar) in toolbar

Current behavior: Font does not show selected color in .odt file, but does show
it in an exported .pdf.

Expected behavior: The new font color should show up in the .odt. I note that
in ver 3.6.5 all three color-change icons did not work properly; in ver 4.0.0.3
the other two (paragraph background and selected-text background do work, but
the font-color icon still does not. (I'm running Vista xx64; the bug page seems
misformatted & I could choose only "All" OSs.)

Hi,

I can now offer you a workaround for this. In LO 4.0 I added "Compress Graphic"
function to Draw, Impress and Calc. In master (to be 4.1) it is also available
in Writer. With "Compress Graphic" you are now able to actually resize the
picture to current "view" size (this is the default) and if the picture is
smaller it will enlarge it. In "Compress Graphic" you have the possibility to
choose the interpolation method. If you select "None" the QR code in the
example document will become sharp. This is not the exact solution to this
problem but I think it is a easy workaround.

Regards, Tomaž

@Scott - two points

1. Version is not touched, we use comment to say the issue still exists on some
newer version, version field is supposed to be oldest version that we confirm
the problem.

2. This is not a major bug - major bugs are data loss bugs and crashes or the
like. For pointers see:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/0/06/Prioritizing_Bugs_Flowchart.jpg

I'll check the bug again with the given font :)

@Joel: Happy to oblige, even if my understanding of template stuff is actually
rather cursory.

@Pierre-Yves, I take it, you use "model" in the meaning of "template"? That
confused me a bit...

So, as far as I understand you, you want an extra tick box in the Open dialogue
that allows switching between
  (1) opening the template and
  (2) opening a new document based on the template.
Is that correct?

* I would assume the second point is likely what user want in the majority of
  cases
* It seems reasonably simple to just overwrite the template by using Save As...
in the end to achieve what you'd intend by going the first route.

New comment (5) of Simon Montagu on :

I confirm what Jonathan says in comment 4.

"Meanwhile there is an interesting response in

'It has "writing-mode:rl-tb" CSS attribute which supersedes "direction:rtl".
Firefox not supporting is a problem with Firefox.'

I don't think it's accurate to say that writing-mode:rl-tb supersedes
direction:rtl.
It's true that writing-mode:lr-tb and rl-tb appeared in an earlier version of
CSS3 Text (http://www.w3.org/TR/2003/CR-css3-text-20030514/), but they are no
longer in the current version (http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-writing-modes/), where
writing-mode only specifies the block flow direction and not the inline
progression direction. As far as I know, the old syntax of writing-mode has
only ever been supported by IE.

I would be happy if someone could copy this comment into the LO bug report,
since I don't have a bugzilla account at freedesktop.org"

> Because the standard 5/4 rounding is more useful for spreadsheets.

What's more "useful" is given by the use case. However, the word "useful" is
not even correct here. In statistical problems, for which you can use LO Calc,
the "always round up on .5" method is simply wrong, not just unuseful!

If you feel better, then take this as a simple feature request, not as a bug.

Or if you want to be more "bureaucratic": Currently LO Calc is not IEEE 754
conform (pretty bad for a computer program, IMHO), because it only has the
three non-default methods of IEEE 754: round always down, round always up and
round up on ".5"
But it is completly missing the IEEE 754 rounding of on .5 round to the even
number (and this is even the default of IEEE 754).

Not a bug in LibreOffice really. _If_ this would be a bug, it is one in Ubuntus
packaging. Then again, installing third-party *.debs (as those from TDF) are
not a supported scenarios (in fact cant be).

So if you want the convenience of automatic package management, stay with the
official Ubuntu distro packages (or possibly: the PPA packages, even though
there is no official support for those of course).

Point taken. Yes, I am trying to insert a table from Calc into a table from
Writer and I know that just pasting the table from Calc into Writer works. The
reason for wanting to insert a table from Calc into a table from Writer is that
if you just paste a table from Calc into Writer, then it (of course) adopts all
the settings from Calc such as the table/column widths(s), row heights etc.
However, in my field at least, articles involve tables that span the whole
width of the page and have the otherwise used document fonts, font sizes, ...
Thus, in Word, I can simply generate an empty table and copy into it data from
Excel and the pasting process takes care of the mapping which cell of the Excel
table needs to go into which cell of the Word table. I attach an example of
intended output.

separate new User Profile and attached sample:

When I select some cells in first row (does not matter whether with

will select the range down until row as
would have reached from cell where cell cursor is visible.

This might differ to behavior in more early versions. I did the same tests with
LibO 3.3.3 and it seems that there the selection will go down until the row

reached when marking first row.

I think the current behavior is very plausible and more predictable than the
one in more early versions.

2/ on the SampleTarget spreadsheet modified at the previous stage:
using the Format Paintbrush to reproduce the format from I27 to I28,
The border is now green, but, when I look at the CF (with manage), the

I hope this can give you a hint.

This isn't a bug but a question, it should be asked either:

on #libreoffice channel on freenode (IRC)

http://ask.libreoffice.org/ (web based help)

or user mailing list

http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/

I suggest one of the first two for most questions :-D

Marking as INVALID as this isn't a bug report.

@ihaag - I suggest you start from a fresh profile,
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

Also if you did an update to get to 4.0.0.3 release, I suggest a clean install
of it (I know not ideal solution but no one can reproduce the issue so I
suspect it's local)

Marking as WFM.

Go for it - adding potentially a single XML attribute doesn't seem like enough
for a semester - but there are lots of other things to improve in the Android
remote - so go for it ! :-) we look forward to your patch.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 59813] EDITING: Insert picture does not retain directory

2013-02-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59813

Hello Brenda

Thanks for replying. I was using 3.6 and am now using 4.0 on Linux Mint
14 with Cinnamon 1.6.

The problem seems to be that when you are _not_ using the LibreOffice
file dialogue boxes it reverts to $HOME directory after each picture
insertion (as well as when you try to open a file actually). When using
the LibreOffice dialogue boxes it retains the path so you can insert
several pictures from the same directory. I have switched to using
LibreOffice dialogue boxes and it is fine. I suspect the problem is
something to do with gnome/nemo/nautilus rather than LibreOffice.

Best wishes

Paul Webb / Spinnekop

Using Mozilla Thunderbird on Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon.
