when you import data from some external source and end up with numbers or dates
in text format (withe the apostrophe as first character) I see no way to
convert the cell contents to a different format except manually removing the '.

sure there are some macros "out there" or you should have checked the data type
during import. but sometimes you are in that situation and a nice way out
would be nice.

I'm trying to create a sample file with many workbooks that has column width
fitted and column-row freezed in everyworkbooks.

However as I explained before, this behaviour is predictable. One should try
few times opening and saving that file on different time while in-between
working on different files/documents.

Later Versions (next one I tested: 3.4.5, I think we got the new border dialog
design) show problems with missing borders in Printout, it seems every version
other problems. So might be teething trouble with a new feature?

I am confirming and setting platform ALL because I see the reported

UTC, configured as
--enable-dbgutil
--enable-crashdump
--disable-build-mozilla
--without-system-postgresql
--without-myspell-dicts

built and running on ubuntu-natty (11.04) 32-bit.

Some observations, which my nasty suspicious mind finds suggestive:

(*) From the referenced Target.ods, I extracted content.xml, and
passed the result through xml_pp, finding interesting values for
rows-repeated. In particular, 1048565 is one less than a number
of iterations which will appear two bullet points below. ...

... 2 table-row's elided ...

... 2 table-column's elided ...

... 1 table-row elided ...

... 2 table-column's elided ...

(*) gdb `watch` on mnXclRowRpt in the fourth XclExpRow instantiated in
the program shows the variable being initialized to 1 in the
constructor and assigned value 1048566 in XclExpRow::SetXclRowRpt
called from XclExpRowBuffer::Finalize ...

2055: sal_uInt32 nRpt =  rRow->GetXclRow() - pPrev->GetXclRow();
2056: pPrev->SetXclRowRpt( nRpt );

(*) XclExpRow::SaveXml uses mnXclRowRpt as the number of
iterations for a loop which executes at least osl_writeFile. The
particular call to osl_writeFile which I happened to catch was
writing 91 bytes.

(*) If I force an early return from XclExpRow::SaveXml for the
object with a large mnXclRowRpt, the "Save As" appears to finish
normally and the program displays the spreadsheet window.

HTH,
Terry.

With LibreOffice Calc 4.0 it is possible to directly export a chart in vector
format (EPS for example) with a click of the secondary button. No more copy and
paste to Draw to export as PDF, or so I thought. It turns out that in the
exported EPS graphic, the numbers (axis labels) look pixelated. Moreover the
file weighs over a MB for a simple scatter plot with only four points.

A moderator at LibreOffice Forum suggested to raise a bug report.

This is not an issue for the rendering engine. It only has to cycle through the
lookups and apply one active GSUB rule after the other. It’s the font
designer’s task to make sure to prevent inconsistencies.

In your case, there would be a feature ss01: substitute a by a.notail and ss02:
substitute a by a.onestory. In this case, the program will find an “a” in a
text, cycle through the lookups and find a match in ss01, so a gets replaced
with a.notail. Then it continues but won’t find a match in ss02 because now
there’s no longer an a but an a.notail for which no lookup exists in ss02. If
the font designer wished to get a match here too, he would add substitute
a.notail by a.onestory to his ss02 lookups. You see, the order in which the
lookups appear in the font is important (there’s no fixed order, one is
absolutely free to put ss02 before ss01 in their font), LO doesn’t have an
influence here and there’s no need for error messages. It’s more a question of
the font’s documentation.

Draw is my preferred application for drawing a mind map, or concept map.
However, I find it very awkward to not be able to target a connector line to
the center of a shape (and thus behind it, so the connector line doesn't
overlap the shape), for two reasons:
1. This is the instinctive way of connecting 2 shapes in a mind map.
2. Moving around shapes without this feature makes connector lines sometimes
end up in awkward spaces.

Please consider implementing this!

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 62128] New: FORMATTING: Unable to apply SI/ISO 31-0 standard in number formatting

2013-03-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62128

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 62128
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FORMATTING: Unable to apply SI/ISO 31-0 standard in
number formatting
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: wolte...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.0.1.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

The SI/ISO 31-0 norm establishes that the thousands separator should be a
single space character (UTF-16 0x0020 character). When I try to give a cell
this number format, I find it impossible.

The default format is coded as #,##0. This prints a comma (,) as a thousand
separator for thousands as well as for millions and the consecutive number
groups. However, if I try use the number format # ##0, only the thousands are
separated with a space.

It would be expected that any character used as a replacement for the comma had
the same behavior, i.e. separate digits in groups of 3, from the unit onward.

Well, I hope somebody will definitely take a look. This one seems an
interesting file, a real bug-catcher. That Section Break behaves buggy in MS
Office too due to lack of Paragraph Breaks around it, but MS Office handles it
and lets you work around it.

v4.0.1 still crashes at its splash screen without its LO4 profile.

I decided just to move all the fonts (ARIALUNI.TTF was not deletable since it
was in used by my ATI video driver v9.4's CCC.exe (Catalyst Control Center)
from c:\windows\fonts), and redeleted my LO4 profile to see what happens. It
still crashed. Also, Windows XP Pro. SP3 put back my old fonts automatically
back after moving them:

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 62031] FORMATTING: Insert - Row fails with error message

2013-03-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62031

I originally had looked to obtain HELP with a PROBLEM but your site does not
allow for that or, at least, I could not find it hence my question had to be
placed in the "BUG" section. Note that most of my writing refers to PROBLEM
reverting to 'BUG" only when I was told it was "IMPOSSIBLE."

Question remains how a number was entered in that cell when I never even
remotely addressed that cell. The original has "$519" at that location which
was converted to "0" when I deleted the 13 x 29 spreadsheet data, only those
377 cells, communicating that somehow a formula "problem" instructed loading
that cell then, instead of deleting, it changed the value to "0" instead of
"$0" which would be expected since they were currency numbers and currency is
shown in the original.

Think about it, 13 x 29 places a value in "last row 1048576" but I never worked
with other than simple SUM formulas. SUM formulas can place it's result
wherever the user wishes (within limits) but with only one exception I
higlighted what I wanted added then clicked on the SUM icon of the spreadsheet.
The one exception was copied and pasted 10 times which when their value was
deleted should have generated as many as 10 cells with "$0" but only one with
"0" appeared.

And while it may not be a BUG to you it was/is a problem. True the spreadsheet
was a modified copy of a 2012 even smaller spreadsheet without the "custom"
formula but that is as far back as it goes, since the 2012 was a new
spreadsheet of the 3.x.x.x version. My money remains on a related problem to
the upgrade -- a conflict between a sheet created in the prior version being
modified after an upgrade -- but having obtained a solution I don't care.
TY,
Amos

  on bug 62031
  from Rainer Bielefeld

The sample document contains data in last row 1048576, a formula in
C1048576.
Simply try and use arrow left until you see the "0"!
So it's expected that you can't insert a row, also not with 3.6 or more early
versions or OOo.

So indeed not a bug.

@challengnow:
Deleting that last row with menu 'Edit -> Delete Cells' after you have selected
it with a click on the row header will heal your problem. Or simply with
cell cursor around C1048576

Probably not related to your problem:
Your document still contains several invalid ODF (may be it has a long history
starting with old OOo versions), what even can not be healed by saving
document after Menu 'Tools -> Options -> Load/Save -> ODF-Type 1.2 (instead of
1.2 Extended"). Normally that will not cause trouble, but using different
software editing the same document might be dangerous.

Yes -- that's exactly what the bug is about.

It's not very discoverable though. So perhaps an in-app short help or something

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 61763] : Incorrect text rendering (doc)

2013-03-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61763

Further tests using LibreOffice 3.6.5.2 (Build ID: 5b93205) and MS Office 2007
SP3, Windows 7 SP1 64bit:

Test 1: Add paragraph between section break and table
1. Open the original file in MS Office
2. Add a Paragraph Break after the Section Break. Actually, you should add some
Paragraph Breaks after the first table on page 2 and than move the table to
anchor so that there is a paragraph break is between section break and the
table.
3. Save the file (as .doc)
4. Open the file in LibreOffice
The file now seems to open correctly. You can save it as .odt or .doc, while
save as .docx still crashes.

Test 2: Remove section break
1. Open the original file in MS Office
2. Remove (delete) section break
3. Save the file (as .doc)
4. Open the file in LibreOffice
The file now seems to open correctly. You can save it as .odt, .doc or .docx,
it will not crash. However, .docx is unusable: most content and formatting is
lost.

@Julien Nabet: I would love to create separate bugs, but it seems that every
test I do converges to section break handling. Perhaps we should rename this
bug? If you feel we should split this one into multiple more 'to the point'
bugs I'd need some advice on which part of my findings is a new bug.
Thank you.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 58941] Support optional smartfont features

2013-03-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58941

Suppose the default glyph for "a" in a font has a long tail, similar to
Helvetica or Arimo/Liberation Sans. Suppose that the author has created two
stylistic sets: "ss01" removes that tail from the a, and "ss02" makes it a
one-story a. This would create a conflict if the user activated both at once,
so this problem would have to be addressed. Perhaps, if the user tries to
activate two conflicting features at once, there should be an error message.

Try to set this to "Page-Break before Section" - works right.

2013-03-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61864

As far as I could test, this is related to Section Break handling.
The original file has a Section Break at the bottom of page 1. This is imported
into LibreOffice as Page Break. When Section Break is removed from the original
file, LibreOffice does not crash.

Tested with MS Office 2007 SP3, LibreOffice 3.6.5.2 Release (Build ID:
5b93205), Windows 7 SP1 46bit

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open original document in MS Office
2. Delete section break
3. Save the document (as .doc)
4. Open the document in LibreOffice
5. File -> Save as
6. Save the document as .docx

LibreOffice will not crash.
However, the file is not converted properly (try closing it and reopen, or open
in MS Office)

2013-03-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62031

The sample document contains data in last row 1048576, a formula in C1048576.
Simply try and use arrow left until you see the "0"!
So it's expected that you can't insert a row, also not with 3.6 or more early
versions or OOo.

So indeed not a bug.

@challengnow:
Deleting that last row with menu 'Edit -> Delete Cells' after you have selected
it with a click on the row header will heal your problem. Or simply with
cell cursor around C1048576

Probably not related to your problem:
Your document still contains several invalid ODF (may be it has a long history
starting with old OOo versions), what even can not be healed by saving
document after Menu 'Tools -> Options -> Load/Save -> ODF-Type 1.2 (instead of
1.2 Extended"). Normally that will not cause trouble, but using different
software editing the same document might be dangerous.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 60921] FILEOPEN odf documents fails with "document corrupted" message

2013-03-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60921

Today I downloaded 4.0.1.2 and tested on both Win7 machines.

Desktop: first failed with 4.0. Installed 3.6.5 then upgraded to 4.0 and it
worked. Uninstalled 4.0 in order to change directory name to unversioned as
it's clear I can't have parallel installs as planned. Installed 4.0.1.2 with
same options as before. Opens test file just fine. So, either uninstall and
reinstall works same as upgrade, or 4.0.1 fixes, but can't tell which.

Laptop: Had a 4.0.0.3 install with no prior versions which failed to open all
test files. Attempted upgrade to 4.0.1, result: couldn't open LibreOffice at
all, long error that basically said 'go reinstall'. Uninstalled LO completely,
installed 4.0.1.2 with same options and the the help pack. It can open the test
files.

Conclusion... I have no idea if 4.0.1 fixes it as both ended up being a
uninstall/reinstall scenario and I have no more fresh Win7 boxes to install LO
4.0.1 on to test the totally fresh install scenario.

JN: things installed on Win7 before LO4 were windows updates and drivers (AMD
monster chipset and video package), ClamWin AV (set not to interfere, just
log), ClassicShell, WinRAR, FAR, Firefox, Opera, SumatraPDF, VLC, XviD,
AC3filter, FFDshow, etc.

Please replace its content
(https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA-FAQ#How_to_eliminate_confidential_data_from_sample_document)
and attach a file if this bug can be still reproduced with changed data. In
that case please reopen this bug report to allow others to check on different
system/build.

(In reply to comment #5)

I managed to hang LibreOffice 4.0.0.2 with this file and the only way to close
the application was to kill it (after few minutes of not responding).
To reproduce just try to go to the end of the sheet by CTRL+Arrow Down
combination.
All good in 3.6.5.2 (last row of the sheet is displayed instantly).
This is obviously a regression bug to file in a separate report.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 62031] FORMATTING: Insert - Row fails with error message

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62031

Excuse the irritation but when a person who should know better starts by saying
that what I experience is impossible and I am looking at the error it becomes,
to put it mildly, frustrating. And yes, I know that all caps is yelling but
your man committed the cardinal sin of a programer -- I have 40+ years of IT
though I no longer do programing -- denying that a user has a software problem
even though it may be unique. The old Microsoft approach of denying that
problems exist should have by now been dead and buried.

I have been using my browser to reply and unless I am provided a separate email
I can only respond to the one I receive.

I'll try all your suggestions before I switch to the prior version.

A suggestion, when testing a new version it may be a very good idea to test it
with Windows Vista as well as XP, 7 and 8; this because logging the bug on your
website did not allow selecting Vista, only the OSs mentioned. I do not like
Vista but I have some legacy software containing critical data that I do not
wish to risk as the last time I changed OS it took me 36 hours to restore and
recapture data from external HDDs.

One more bit of information, the failure to insert a row did not occur at the
beggining or even two-thirds of the way through as I had inserted both rows and
columns while loading the data and creating simple formulas manually. It began
after I had saved and closed the spreadsheet, returning the next day as I
remembered that I needed to track some additional data. In that interim I ran
an anti-viral scan of the HDD; COMODO Internet Security found three suspicious
items in the TEMP and DOWNLOAD files of the Win OS which I deleted as neither
location should affect operations. They looked to be left over from the Libre
Office update which I had done a few days prior. Other than the problem with
inserting rows the spreadsheet works, even to inserting columns. Please look at
the error message as it appears to communicate that when attempting to insert
it tries to extend the data beyond the sheet selected whereas this is a simple
one sheet 13 x 29 spreadsheet.
TY,
Amos

  from 438753924

@Challengnow: First off, Rainer said that you can re-open the bug. No
need to
scream at him for that (writing in caps is considered screaming).

Next: I cannot reproduce this problem on the mac. That of course does not say
it's not reproducible on windows.

You write you use LO 4.0.0.3. Could you please try LO 4.0.1.2 from
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If you still encounter the issue, can you test if you can create a sample
spreadsheet that you could post for devs to reproduce this problem (asking that
because you write that the spreadsheet you use contains sensitive data).

Also you could try saving it under a different file name. Then in the new file
remove all info. Retry. if you then still encounter the issue, attach that
file.

Last: please use your browser for replies. Otherwise your mails will clutter
the bug tracker.

Thanks :)
