I can't reproduce it either, with LibreOffice 4.0.2.2 from Ubuntu 13.04.

I've tried exporting the same ODT file to PDF with the same fonts package
installed (lmodern), it works now.

Not nearly enough info to reproduce this but none the less, myself as well as
every QA member and developer using Linux can run LibreOffice without being
super user.

If this is still a problem please tell us
a) how did you install
b) What your system distribution is
c) Any additional info that will help us help you.

Is this still an issue for you with version 4? I'm not sure if anyone of the QA
testers still have Ubuntu 10.04 as it's several years old, if you're still
experiencing it I'll try to get someone else involved who might have answers.

Marking as NEEDINFO - if it's still an issue with version 4 mark as
UNCONFIRMED, let us know what version and we will go from there.

Thanks!

You've sold me on it being a bigger deal than I first thought.

Upping it to normal - high due to the silent corruption

Major - Corrupts data

Medium - while I agree with your assessment I still think it's affecting a low
number of users so bumped it down from default of high.

Do you happen to know if this problem exists on 3.6?

Confirming that copy-and-paste preserves layer alignment on Linux also.

Note that copy-and-paste isn't quite equivalent to OLE importing with linking,

Why should that not be fixed with my code? We now don't import the cached
string anymore, we always use a number format and the cached value!! to
calculate the string. In the old code we used the cached string to workaround
the missing inherited number formats but all of this code should be gone in
master and 4.1.0.2.

I also have a fix for this bug here which is a regression. I accidentally
removed the code that fetched the number format for formula cells.

If I'm not totally off in the current design there is no difference between a
document that has been recalculated after import and a document where we use
the cached value during import. In both cases we take the value of the result
(either calculated or cached) and use the stored(either from import or in case
of inherited number format from the first calculation) number format from
ATTR_VALUE_FORMAT to create the formatted string. The only difference to the
old 3.6 behavior is that for inherited number format we set the implicit number
format as explicit number format after calculation. Please correct me if I made
a really stupid mistake.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 66478] New: FORMATTING: Hyphenation is not working

2013-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66478

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 66478
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FORMATTING: Hyphenation is not working
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: claude.ew...@gmail.com
  Hardware: x86 (IA32)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.0.1 rc
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

In version 4.1.0.1 hyphenation is not working. Steps to reproduce:

1. Create writer document
2. Insert text (at least one paragraph long)
3. Set paragraph style, TextFlow tab, check Hyphenation (2 characters at line
end; 2 characters at line begin; 0 maximum number of consecutive hyphens)
4. OK

The hyphenation does not produce breaking lines with hyphens set at the
syllabic breaking points.

Three documents attached to illustrate:

1. Portable LibreOffice 4.0.4 Windows XP document. The feature works as
expected. (pdf rendering)

2. LibreOffice 4.1.0.1 Windows XP document. Feaature does not work on the
same document. (pdf rendering)

3. Sample document from which de pfs were created (Wikipedia home page text)

4. Figure showing Tools | Options | Language Settins | Writing Aids dialog box
(Check special regions box; characters before line break

This has been tested on the English Language set up working on English Windows
XP. The same has been proven on a Spanish Language setup on Spanish Windows 7.

I believe (I do not know enough about) that it has to do with the option
'characters before line break' in Writing Aids dialog box that is 0 hardcoded
and does not accept editing. You can set any number greater than 2, but when
pressing OK the change reverts automatically back to 0, as shown when the
Dialog Box is called back.

Following up, it would be helpful if the bug could be *detected* and the user
warned of possible corruption, even if the bug is too hard to fix right now.

Currently the "archival" PDF is silently corrupted. Certain bits just
disappear.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 64664] PDF: Rotated text corrupted when flattening transparent objects for PDF/A

2013-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64664

PDF/A is a variant of PDF designed for long-term archiving. Unlike regular
PDFs, PDF/A does not depend on external data to be rendered. For example, it
does not depend on certain fonts being pre-installed in your rendering
mechanism (printer or software print driver). A key requirement for archival
documents is that they can be rendered in the future without relying on
specific printers or software companies continuing to exist.

So "re-export as regular PDF" is not a solution for people creating documents
to be archived for a long time.

I think there is no valid work-around. It's not a terrible limitation to not
support PDF/A (when certain embedded images are present), but it is a non-minor
bug IMO.

Best,
-Jim

As a student and a person involved in academia, I am sure I speak not only for
myself but for all students, academics and generally people working with data,
when I say that the Data Analysis toolkit in Excel has not alternative to data
in the Open Source community of software. This feature saves so much time and
is essential to anybody that handles data in spreadsheets. It is a systematic
way to get statistical information about data in a very organized and speedy
fashion. In Microsoft Excel it features the following automated techniques:
- Anova (single factor, two factor with/without replication)
- Correlation
- Covariance
- Descriptive Statistics
- Exponential Smoothing
- F-Test
- Fourier Analysis (Very powerful and I think essential)
- Histogram
- Moving Average
- Random Number Generation (For comparing with data to establish
meaningfulness)
- Rank and Percentile
- Regression
- Sampling
- t-Test (all variations)
- z-Test
These all can be applied directly to sets of data and are straightforward to
use. I am sure this will benefit a whole lot all user of LibreOffice! Thank
you!

  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: lukebe...@hotmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.0.0.alpha0+ Master
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

This bug was tested LibreOffice v4.1 RC1 and
master~2013-07-01_09.19.22_LibreOfficeDev_4.2.0.0.alpha0_Win_x86 running in
windows XP. It appears that LibreOffice loses formatting when importing MS Word
.docx files. I have attached an example.

Steps to reproduce the bug:
1. Open attached Demo-Hayden-Management.docx document in writer v4.1 RC1
2. Open attached Demo-Hayden-Management.docx document in writer v4.2
3. Compare the documents.

Note in the screenshot that the header is incorrectly indented, causing the
text to flow off the page. This may be related to Bug #66117 with the .doc
version of this file.

This is something different. The number format says to "format with decimal and
group separator of the current locale", so the actual display string should
change when loaded in a locale that uses different separators. It sounds as if
that will not be covered by the changes, or am I wrong?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 66472] New: Better ergonomics for column, row, and cell actions in Calc

2013-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66472

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 66472
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Better ergonomics for column, row, and cell actions in
Calc
  Severity: enhancement
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: laurent.lyau...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

Hi,

The ergonomics of Calc could be made more efficient (need less click, movements
from the user to do the same action).
When you want to apply an action to all columns, all rows, or all cells, you
have to do the following :
click the X zone
X|B|C
-
1|
-
2|
then right click on columns headers for column actions,
right click on row "headers" for row actions,
right click on cells for cells actions.
Then you must add the number of clicks for each action.

I'll take an example :
Suppose you want to unhide all hidden columns and all hidden rows.
You have to click 5 times
- X zone
- right click column, click unhide
- right click row, click unhide

I propose the X zone to be replaced by the following visual element,
split the X zone in 3 parts like this
  __
 | /|
 |/\|
and make all three zones clickable and right clickable:
- right part selects all columns and make it possible to apply actions (from
contextual menu or other actions) to all columns
- lower part selects all rows and make it possible to apply actions (from
contextual menu or other actions) to all rows
- upper left part selects all columns, rows, cell and make it possible to apply
actions (from contextual menu or other actions) to all columns and/or all rows
or all cells

I would like to name this element of ergonomics a triforce as a tribute to
Zelda :D
(ok it doesn't exactly looks like a triforce but... Imagine saying to someone
"click the triforce on your spreadsheet !" It's much better than clicking
"upperleft corner")
Hence, we could say right triforce, down triforce and triforce for right part,
lower part, and upper left part respectively.

While the contextual menu when right clicking right triforce or down triforce
is the same as right clicking columns or rows (after clicking X zone),
the contextual menu for the triforce is new.
It must be split in two parts :
- actions that can apply to both rows and columns
- actions that apply to cells

Back to the example, now you just need 2 clicks instead of 5 (right click
triforce, click unhide)
The number of mouse movements required would similarly be decreased.

Note that there is no UI regression. Any user can still work the old way by
left clicking the triforce then right clicking rows, columns or cells.

We can rename the triforce or ask Nintendo permission to use this name in
official documentation, it would just be the cheery on the cake.
But what is truly important is the ergonomics.
I hope I clearly presented my idea.

Best regards,
   Laurent Lyaudet

Bug ID: 66471

  Severity: blocker
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Mac OS X (All)
  Reporter: crayl...@gmx.de
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.0.0.beta2
 Component: BASIC
   Product: LibreOffice

To reproduce do the following:

1.Open a new database.
2.Open a new Form
3. Place two TextFields
4. Put an event on "focus lost", like a small programm: MsgBox "Event Done"
5. Check if that works (run the form, go from first field to second field, a
Message Box should appear)

6. Save the Form, save the dbo and close it
7. Open the dbo again, open the form and try the same.
The Message Box does not appear again.
Same for all other events I have tested.(when receiving focus, key pressed,
mouse actions)

This happens for me on a MacOS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4.
Have not yet tested on Windows or other.
Same on my application I have written for OO in all cases where events are
needed.
At least I cannot use LO because of this.

This is not so much a bug as an design omission.

Whilst the Libre Office Drawing fulfills the basic needs for creating simple
drawings and sketches, it fails to have a drawing scale feature. The same is
true of Libre CAD.

The very first time I tried to draw a small detail I was frustrated because my
object was only 2 x 3 inches in section and 4 inches long. In order to have a
reasonable size representation I had to mentally create a 2:1 scale as I went
along.

There needs to be a drawing scale feature at the file level to provide this
very basic need.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 66469] New: FILESAVE: Most recent change in presentation not saved when using animations

2013-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66469

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 66469
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FILESAVE: Most recent change in presentation not saved
when using animations
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: christ...@hoffie.info
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.0.4.2 release
 Component: Presentation
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:
LibreOffice Impress discards changes to documents without notice in certain
circumstances. It happens when the object in question is part of a custom
animation and if no other content is modified before saving.

This is actually really annoying as it may lead to whole paragraphs of text
getting lost or to other corrections not being saved (and as such, errors or
typos getting re-introduced without noticing).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create an empty presentation
2. Add some text such as "Test0"
3. Select the entered text (or the parent text box) and add a custom animation
(doesn't matter which, but let's say "Appear")
4. Save and close the document
5. Open it again and modify the text (Make "Test0" read "Text1")
6. Without editing anything else, click save (or press Ctrl+S) and close the
presentation
7. Re-open again and notice that the last change did not get saved (the page
still reads "Test0")

Current behavior:
The most recent change done to any animated item is not saved, unless something
else is modified afterwards.
Above test case shows "Test0".

Expected behavior:
Everything which is visible on-screen should be saved to the file and should
look the same after re-opening the file.
Above test cases should yield "Test1".

Further information:
- The list of custom animations does not update properly either (i.e. when
"Test0" is changed to "Test1", the animation list still says "Test0" unless
something else is edited or focus is switched to another slide).
- While I am not familiar with the LibreOffice code, it looks like some event
is not fired in this case which would usually be responsible for updating
internal state at several places (internal ODF representation, custom animation
list pane).
- Removing the custom animation and repeating the test (changing content,
saving, reloading) will still show the bug! The bug only vanishes if the
document is re-opened after the custom animation has been removed.

Environment:
- This was first noticed on Kubuntu 13.04 with the bundled libreoffice-4.0.2.2
- also reproduced on: Ubuntu 13.04, bundled libreoffice-4.0.2.2, different
machine
- also reproduced on: Ubuntu 13.04, libreoffice.org's 4.0.4.2 packages
(LibreOffice_4.0.4.2_Linux_x86-64_deb)
- also reproduced on: Ubuntu 13.04, libreoffice.org's 4.1.0.1 packages
(LibreOffice_4.1.0.1_Linux_x86-64_deb)

(all tests on x86_64)

Please let me know if I can supply you with any more debugging information.
Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.0.4.2 release

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 66468] New: Selecting new Personas Crashes LibreOffice

2013-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Summary: Selecting new Personas Crashes LibreOffice
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: peter.maun...@wanadoo.fr
  Hardware: x86 (IA32)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.0.1 rc
 Component: UI
   Product: LibreOffice

Applies to Ubuntu 12.04 desktop and Linux-Mint Mate 13. Using
.config/libreoffice/4 file created by LibO 4.0.4.2 and with a working Personas.

Personalisation can switch to and from Plain view / Own theme.
Pasting new theme address like
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10900/ causes Libreoffice
4.1.0.1 to crash.

Duplicate of 66009 https causes crash or 63498 Personas doesn't work anymore?

Manual copying new Personas offline called header.png, footer.png to
.config/libreoffice/4/gallery/personas works fine.

Excel in a formula expression does not accept literal string values longer than
255 characters. This is not to be confused with a max formula length, be it
characters, tokens or other limits discussed in bug 35411.

Attempting to enter this formula in Excel2010
="1234567891123456789212345678931234567894123456789512345678961234567897123456789812345678991234567890123456789112345678921234567893123456789412345678951234567896123456789712345678981234567899123456789012345678911234567892123456789312345678941234567895123456"

results in an error box "Text values in formulas are limited to 255 characters.

Bug confirmed under Win XP. Actually this is fantastic improvement. LO 4.1
manages to save to docx and then open it again. Previous versions of LO crash
(I tested 4.0.4 and 3.6.6) without producing any file. Unfortunately this is
not good enough since the file can not be opened in Office 2010...

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 66418] EDITING: copy-paste formatting problem

2013-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66418

I appreciate the power of the mass opinion, but I believe that individual
opinion is important as well.

I am pretty sure that user that decide to switch from MS Office to Libre Office
will find this annoying, because I did. Now, I am using CTRL + SHIFT + V -
which is great (and would be even better if I don't need to select Unformatted
text every time and then press Enter), but I believe this enhancement will be
useful for all future users.

Imagine this situation - you have seven different headings in document in
Writer placed on different part of pages so you cannot select them all... and
you want to create one slide in Impress with seven bullets... I need to switch
seven times between Libre Office and seven times to press CTRL + SHIFT + V,
select Unformatted text and press Enter...

If my approach is implemented, max. number of clicks is: 7 times switching
between application + seven times pressing CTRL + V = 14 actions in total

In current approach = 7 times switching between application (ALT + TAB), seven
times pressing CTRL + SHIFT + V + seven times selecting Unformatted text and
seven times pressing Enter.. = 28 actions in total
