@Thorsten - can you use the bibisect to try to figure out what patch fixed it
on 4.1 and see if we can backport it to the 4.0 branch?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 67432] Libreoffice 4.1 constantly crashes on selecting personalized (Personas) theme

2013-07-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67432

--- Comment #6 from andis.lazd...@gmail.com ---

 I cannot reproduce the crash, nor that the cheges are ingnored.
 Only problem: there is quite a huge time lap between hitting OK in the theme
 selection window, and the moment that one can close the options diaglog.
 Maybe that is causing problems?
 (Working on Ubuntu with 4.1.0.4 (and others) )

Hello!

In my case libreoffice just crashes within 15-20 seconds (Ubuntu 12.04), there
is no need to anything additionally to reproduce this.

No crash for me but it doesn't open with 4.0.4 opens fine with 4.1

++

In general we'd like more info when someone is reporting someone else's bug -
and we'd prefer the actual reporter to report so they can answer these types of
questions directly - examples include:

How was the file made? LibreOffice (if so what version?), openoffice (if so
what version?), some other software (if so what software, what version)

What OS is experiencing the crash? Like I said, for me no crash, just doesn't
open, LibreOffice continues to work fine

Did it work on previous versions of 4, or any other version for that matter
prior to 4.1 for reporter?

Also it's good for users to get a bugzilla account and get comfortable with our
system so that they can report future problems - else they start thinking they
can just report on the ML and get action - which is not the case - QA rarely
monitors the list and we don't want users getting false expectations

That being said because I can confirm it won't open on some versions of 4 I
went ahead and bibisected - since it's been fixed someone will need to cherry
pick the fix for 4.0 release

I updated to version 4.1.0.3 (Build ID: 4.1.0.3-2.fc19), and the same thing is
happening.

I'm using separate X-servers because that appears to be the only way to have
the virtual desktop showing on one monitor independent of the one showing on
the other. Xinerama is off.

Please let me know what I can do to help track down the problem.

Two separate X servers ? or a single X server serving two screens ? I'd be
rather surprised if the former case works (or worked well in the past).

try: export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen # to see if that works better - it may; but
in general this is a use-case that is very far from what is normal, and as such
it is likely to have bit rotted quite badly.

Patches most welcome to fix it though; you'll need to get a debug built
yourself to chase down where which screen pointer is going so on how it
gets confused. If it's truly multiple XDisplays git grep XOpenDisplay # I
suppose to find what's going on there.

Yes, please provide the sample document(s), but pls also give a clear
description of what needs improvement. When possible, a screen shot of the
situation in Word is great.

(In reply to comment #32)
 I think this is caused by inferior setup i put into the ebuild.

 We use hsqldb as default so it needs java. As the user has -java it should
 simply crash because it didn't find the required java/hsqldb setup to load
 from.

 But thats only my suspect.

Also note I still think it should not crash but rather tell user to pick from
other db engine first. (especially if the guy has mysql and postgres both
build).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 67461] New: Multiple selection of styles only works for Delete, but not for Hide/Show

2013-07-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67461

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 67461
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
   Summary: Multiple selection of styles only works for Delete,
but not for Hide/Show
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: grof...@hotmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.0.4 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Styles - multiple selection and only Delete possible

I looked what is new in LibreOffice 4.1 Writer and noticed that multiple delete
of style is possible. This feature was added according to bug report:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46718

Looking into the solution and I see this solution little bit strange (or bugy).

1. Format | Styles and Formatting.
2. Click on Page Style button (4th button) - this is just because Page Style
has less styles listed so easier to demonstrate.
3. Right click somewhere in window and New
4. In Organizer tab | Style | Name field type in test1 and click on OK button.
5. Repeat step 4 and name it test2.
6. In style list click on test1, press CTRL and hold and click on test2.
7. Right click and Delete. Result: both two styles are deleted. So new feature
of deleting multiple styles works fine.
8. Repeat steps 4, 5, 6.
9. Right click and Hide.
10. (observe) You can see there is no more test1 it was hidden, but test2 is
still displayed. This is strange from design point of view. Now from bottom
drop-down list select Hidden Styles and there is only test1 listed. This is
prove that only first style marked was hidden. So Hide does not work for
multiple selections.

P.S. The same problem for Modify (in step 9 select Modify).
P.S.S. The same problem for Show. Hiding test1 and test2 one by one. From
drop-down selection Hidden Styles, select both test1 and test2 and right click
and Show and only first test1 style gets removed from Hidden Styles.

In my humble opinion this should be solved like this:
a) For Modify if multiple selection is done, then right menu Modify option
should be grayed out. You can't modify two styles at once, so option not
logical.
b) For Hide / Show - do the same as a) or implement solution to hide/show
multiple styles.

Tested on: LibreOffice 4.1 on Ubuntu 12.04 using ppa:libreoffice/ppa.

This seems to be a minor release regression in 4.0.4 vs. previous 4.0 versions:
The pre-installed LibreOffice 3.6(?) of Ubuntu 12.04 has a bug and the paper
tray selection does not work. It chooses always the paper from tray 1.

Therefore I installed LibreOffice 4.0 from ppa libreoffice-4-0. And this
version worked correctly concerning the paper tray selection until now - the
current version 4.0.4.2 AGAIN BROKE this feature - again everything is printed
from tray 1!

You're right. It's a single X-server but two separate screens.

SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen fixes the problem! No Gnome theming, but quite usable.
I'll try things out using Gnome (3) rather than Mate (= Gnome 2) as the window
manager.

Thanks for the advice about how to start debugging this with a source build.
I've just switched to to Fedora 19 From Fedora 12, where I used the same X
configuration, but where OpenOffice didn't have this problem. So something's
changed in an Nvidia driver update or the office suite code.

I'd love to get that functionality included. I'd have this set of actions
there:

+ re-write as C++:
++ so it won't impact startup-performance (extensions do sadly)
++ so we can include a sidebar pane / area for this
+ get it MPLv2 licensed

Otherwise it looks like a sexy feature to add; I'd love it as a stock toolbar
that automatically shows up for documents with red-lining enabled :-)

Who is the author ? Cloph - any chance you can dig that out of plone ? also
re-writing this as a built-in toolbar should be an easy-hack I think - with
enough code-pointers.

Users want to embed EPS' however we have no renderer that can handle these
built-in; this sometimes causes problems as/when the hacky platform tools we
spawn to try to make that work are moved around / not installed. cf bug#34836

It'd be lovely to have a (simple/minimal) EPS - drawinglayer converter I

Status: NEW
   Version: 4.1.0.3 rc
 Component: Libreoffice
   Product: LibreOffice

bug#34836 is an unreadable mess - but one of its problems is that of not being
able to find pstoedit in it's path.

Rendering EPS requires pstoedit thus:

static bool RenderAsEMF(const sal_uInt8* pBuf, sal_uInt32 nBytesRead, Graphic
rGraphic)
{
TempFile aTemp;
aTemp.EnableKillingFile();
OUString fileName(pstoedit EXESUFFIX);
OUString arg1(-f);
OUString arg2(emf:-OO);
OUString arg3(-);
OUString output;
osl::FileBase::getSystemPathFromFileURL(aTemp.GetName(), output);
rtl_uString *args[] =
{
arg1.pData, arg2.pData, arg3.pData, output.pData
};

If the program is not in your path - it will not be found. We could of course
try to add a series of paths to try in this eventuality.

--- Comment #49 from Michael Meeks michael.me...@novell.com ---
This bug is too huge, tangled and un-readable for any developer to get to the
end of. To save time and avoid repeated waste I've split it into:

bug#67464 - request for built-in EPS rendering (a long term enhancement)
bug#67465 - try harder to find pstoedit on Macs

One of these is tractable.

Julien asked:
 Michael: must have missed something but why several bugtrackers?

Because one very long, overly complicated multi-comment bug with multiple
issues in it is a disaster: it wastes programmers time to read, and then they
realise that there will never be a clean fix even of the easy bit because
somehow someone put a man-year task next to a 10 man minute task in the same
bug - so ...

 We could either transform this one into enhancement with this title for
 example: Rendering EPS broken on MacOs.

Long, unclear, confused, unreadable bugs waste very significant time trying to
unwind them. I've split it into two clear, precise bugs that can be read
quickly and (I hope) gives a developer a reasonable incentive to fix one of
them: the trivial bit - and the satisfaction of at least closing a bounded
problem :-)

HTH.

Making this an easy-hack. The code is in:

filter/source/graphicfilter/ieps/ieps.cxx

If the initial spawning of that filter fails, we should probably hard-code a
set of other paths particularly: /opt/local/bin - which seems to be where Mac
people like to hide this out of their path these days ;-)

Thanks !

So - the claim is that the change is in the 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 range ?

git log --numstat libreoffice-4.0.3.3..libreoffice-4.0.4.2

167 commits to bisect I guess - but I'd check that 4.0.3 actually does work ;-)
Only one commit actually looks even remotely related to printing:

commit 0b39358aaf723b26b5effb7245f38ad960cc609a

Date:   Wed Apr 24 16:15:19 2013 +0200

fdo#59259: Suppress the expensive parts when we are only writing to

So I'm suspicious of the claimed range personally.

 You're right. It's a single X-server but two separate screens.

Ok - so this mode we should support :-) but you'll need to do some debugging /
detective work with your own build with symbols. To do that, checkout
configure with:

--enable-symbols

or install the debuginfo debugsource packages from your distro (and/or
rawhide) to get a better trace I guess. Thanks !

 Compiled with +debug, -O0 and -ggdb, the gdbtrace.log seems the same (only

As you are using gentoo it strips out the debug symbols by default.

You need to put something like FEATURES=splitdebug into your make.conf

http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/backtraces.xml

Also you need to compile glibc with debug symbols.
But first things first, try to compile it with java enabled, I am pretty sure
the problem will go away.

The simple boxes in Word, and LibreOffice

In MS Word I can place shapes like boxes and arrows.

If I draw an arrow from right to left (vertical difference is ), save the docx,
and open in L-O, the arrows' surrounding box is OK, but the arrow points from
left to right!

I can change the direction, but after saving/reopening (still in LO) the
direction will be random - sometimes it works fine, other occassion it also
points in different direction!

Looks that MSW can open/display correctly tha arrows saved from LibreOffice,
even if L-O itself displays badly.

--- Comment #4 from Björn Michaelsen bjoern.michael...@canonical.com ---
@Winfried: Whops indeed -- fixed.

@Michael: No, so far the claim is that it worked with _some_ 4.0.x version, so
the range is 4.0.0 to 4.0.4. I asked to clarify on the downstream bug.

Note that given how much we use an external print stack on this, before its
confirmed hard that going back to 4.0.0 fixes this, its entirely possible that
some other package update broke this. Still -- if it would be us, its a minor
release regression.

I completely agree with and support this request. An option to revert to plain
text entries would be much appreciated. I would also like to add that under
v4.1.0.4 the situation is now even worse as the entries are no longer in
alphabetical order (refer attached). This is especially bad UI/UX design. If a
separate bug is required for what seems a highly-related aspect, please advise
and I will open one. Adding myself to the CC list.

I have searched pretty extensively for alternative EPS renderers but
Ghostscript seems to be the only which is open source. Since Ghostscript is GPL
(latest relese AGPL) only, it's not possible to link to it as a library unless
LibreOffice changes its license.

I think the only solution is to bundle Ghostscript with LibreOffice and
continue to spawn up a process when EPS rendering is needed.
