I am getting exactly this on LO 4.1.04 on Ubuntu GNU/Linux 13.04. It appears as
if the styles are not being saved. Making hard changes to the fonts of
individual items works, but not changes to styles. Style changes only last for
the current session, but are reverted when the file is closed and reopened.
This is a killer bug for anyone doing lots of presentations.

Just realize that renaming an existing style also is not retained after save

earlier I guess the entire formatting and style management section seems to
have some serious issues, and it is a core component in an office suite...

Honestly, I have no idea. As it has only ever occurred once on my Macbook in

it did happen, it took me totally by surprise. After deleting the
SavedApplicationState entry, I was no longer able to reproduce it, and it
hasn't happened again since, yet LO has died on me many times since then.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67565

I managed to further nail down this unwanted behavior.

The loss of style information applies...

... to font settings (color and others seem to be okay) - in my case custom
fonts revert back to Times New Roman which I am not using at all...
... if styles (or style trees) are NOT linked to the built-in top-level style
"Default"

It is sad because the template I use has a large customized style tree that is
NOT linked to Default, therefore all of my presentation now get corrupted when
I save them.

Rebuilding this style tree for any presentation I am using or that does exist
somewhere is simply not possible. I hope this gets addressed ASAP.

Should be relatively simple to add this, probably by using the standard open
dialog implementation (I do not see anything that would require special
treatment). The "Other sound..." dialog is implemented by class
SdOpenSoundFileDialog in sd/source/ui/dlg/filedlg.cxx , "Insert -> Movie or
Sound" uses the standard open dialog implementation, run from function
MediaWindow::executeMediaURLDialog() in avmedia/source/viewer/mediawindow.cxx .

> Of note, http://www.w3.org/TR/2008/REC-xml-20081126/#sec-starttags (see

This is a description of structure. PIs are element 'content' as they can
appear inside an element. (Note that comments are 'content' too. And so are
CDATA sections. I do not think you will argue that CDATA sections must be
preserved exactly as they are.)

It has nothing to do with semantics.

>
> While the application need not interpret PIs, they are defined as content,

No, it would not seem (see above). Anyway, it looks like the authors of XSLT
agree with my interpretation, because PIs are discarded by the built-in rules
(therefore, I guess 99.9 % of existing stylesheets discards them).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 67476] Charts created with LO 4.1.0.4 Calc are not being stored

2013-07-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67476

All my three machines run 64 bit Ubuntu Linux 13.04 totally updated, one of
runs on Core i5, my Lenovo Z470 laptop runs on Core i7 and an HP all in one
runs on a dual core AMD64 processor. All of them have 4 Gb RAM. LO 4.1.0.4
rc4/release was installed in all as 64 bit version. I do not want to beta test
Ubuntu 13.10 since that will take a machine to do (real or virtual), in my past
experice pre-release versions of Ubuntu are very unstable.

LO 4.1.0.4 was installed from LO download site deb packages on the default /opt
location. I initially noticed the problem while working on my laptop (One of
the many worksheets producing the problem was submitted, with two screen shots
showing a chart before and after saving). The chart types with the problem were
all XY plots with asymmetric error bars on the dots (connected by straight
lines) which represented the data. In some instances the chart transformed into
the diagonal line while editing the chart with no need of
closing-saving-reopening sequences which always produced the diagonal line
shown in one of the screen shots submitted with the bug report. If the same
chart is created with LO 4.0.4 the chart does not disappear, but is not
recovered by opening with LO 4.0.4 Calc, after creating the chart in LO 4.1.0.4
Calc and saving the ss.

I did nor run an md5 check on the deb packages but 4.1.0.4 rc4 and the
"release" version seem identical.

Please let me know if I can be of any further help.

I have exactly the same problem, and confirmed it through MSI file analysis.

I have compared, using ORCA, both recent releases: a last known proper one
(4.0.4.2) and an affected one (4.1.0.4).

In 4.0.4.2 release you may find a component under attribute
"Component/gid_brand_file_desktophelper_txt__libreoffice4_0_program" that is
dependant on condition "CREATEDESKTOPLINK=1".

In 4.1.0.4 there is neither such exact component, nor any other component
dependant on "CREATEDESKTOPLINK=1" condition.

It seems that someone has restructured the feature, changing previous value of
"Component_" under the attribute "Shortcut\gid_Folderitem_Soffice_Desktop" into
"gid_brand_file_bin_soffice__libreoffice4_program". The "CREATEDESKTOPLINK=1"
confition has been lost.

Joel, thanks for your input. The replacement table
(https://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Replace#Replacement_table) can help to
some extent. Its major limitations for this use would be that:
1/ The acronym expansion is not systematic. In the "expand on first use" case,
only the first instance of the acronym should be expanded.
2/ In the "table of acronyms" case, one would still have to gather and list all
the acronyms manually, something tedious and error-prone.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 67565] New: FORMATTING: Formattings (esp. fonts) not retained after saving a document

2013-07-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 67565
  Keywords: regression
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FORMATTING: Formattings (esp. fonts) not retained
after saving a document
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: mar...@michels.cc
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.0.4 release
 Component: Presentation
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:

Using customized templates for impress (color coding, styles, fonts, etc).
Since 4.1.0.4 some formatting gets lost after saving and re-opening the file.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create empty impress document
2. Create a custom style
3. Assign a custom and easily recognizable font
4. Add some boxes with text to the page
5. Apply custom style to boxes (they now look as defined in your custom style)
6. Save document
7. Re-open the document
8. Fonts in boxes is no longer the same as desired
9. Checking the style unveils that the font information in the defined and
applied style has changed

Current behavior:

See above

Expected behavior:

LO should keep the style information.

I must say that since LO 4 there are some serious issues with the style and
formatting management in the software. I renders unusable unfortunately, which
makes me sad, since otherwise I do admire and promote LO privately and at work.
But I cannot continue that way. This functionality is basic stuff that should
work across all versions like charm...

Anyway, thanks in advance for taking care of this,

Markus

Is the replacement table not enough for this? While you do have to write out
the full name the first time - after this you can auto replace instances
easily.

Just wondering how this would be different from the replacement table other
than the first instance being fully written out.

   Summary: EDITING: Implement acronym management
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: florent.an...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.0.3.3 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Hi,

When writing papers, it is usual to use acronyms. Generally, acronyms have to
be expanded on first use, can be expanded as part of a list of acronyms, or
both. It would be terrific if LibreOffice Writer would let users define
acronyms and automagically deal with formatting them, either by expanded the
first occurrence or creating a list of acronyms (much like a table of content
can be automatically generated by LO). The reason this feature would be
valuable is that when working on long documents, keeping track of the acronyms
used and whether its the first time you used them is a tremendous pain.
Apparently, others believe this feature would be useful:
http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/3878/automatic-list-of-acronyms/

Specifically, here is how I propose this could be implemented from an interface
point of view:
1/ User types a word, e.g. "DNA"
2/ User right clicks on the word to access a contextual menu where the acronym
can be defined, e.g. "deoxyribonucleic acid". Note that this contextual menu
should be accessible even if the word is not all upper-case because not all
acronyms are upper-case (e.g. see "amphetamine" acronym on
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acronym). As a bonus, the acronym should probably
be added to the dictionary or simply registered to avoid it being recognized as
a spelling mistake.
3/ From now on, LO should recognize "AMA" as an acronym every time it is typed
(internally, maybe this word should become a dynamic field?).
4/ User types more until document is finished.
5/ At the end, user goes to menu Insert > Indexes and Tables > Acronyms and
decide how to format acronyms: "expand on first use" and/or "table of acronyms"
(alphabetically sorted)
6/ If users decides to move text around in the document, LO should
automatically update it to ensure that any acronym is expanded only the first
time it is encountered.

Here is some sample text (from
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNA/RNA_non-specific_endonuclease) without
acronym expansion:
"In molecular biology, enzymes in the DNA/RNA non-specific endonuclease family
of bacterial and eukaryotic endonucleases EC 3.1.30.- share the following
characteristics: they act on both DNA and RNA, cleave double-stranded and
single-stranded nucleic acids and require a divalent ion such as magnesium for
their activity"

The same text with list of acronyms:
"List of acronyms:
DNA: deoxyribonucleic acid
RNA: ribonucleic acid
EC: enzyme commission

In molecular biology, enzymes in the DNA/RNA non-specific endonuclease family
of bacterial and eukaryotic endonucleases EC 3.1.30.- share the following
characteristics: they act on both DNA and RNA, cleave double-stranded and
single-stranded nucleic acids and require a divalent ion such as magnesium for
their activity"

With expansion on first occurrence:
"In molecular biology, enzymes in the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)/riboxynucleic
acid (RNA) non-specific endonuclease family of bacterial and eukaryotic
endonucleases enzyme commission (EC) 3.1.30.- share the following
characteristics: they act on both DNA and RNA, cleave double-stranded and
single-stranded nucleic acids and require a divalent ion such as magnesium for
their activity"

With expansion on first occurrence and list of acronyms:
"List of acronyms:
DNA: deoxyribonucleic acid
RNA: ribonucleic acid
EC: enzyme commission

In molecular biology, enzymes in the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)/riboxynucleic
acid (RNA) non-specific endonuclease family of bacterial and eukaryotic
endonucleases enzyme commission (EC) 3.1.30.- share the following
characteristics: they act on both DNA and RNA, cleave double-stranded and
single-stranded nucleic acids and require a divalent ion such as magnesium for
their activity"

Best,

Florent

PS/ Apparently, there is an acronym tool in MS Word 2010:
http://blogs.office.com/b/office_blog/archive/2010/05/20/new-accessibility-tools-in-word-2010-day-7-of-10-mvps-on-office-2010.aspx.
It seems capable of defining acronyms but not of automatically formatting them
within a document.

Hi Vero,

Issues with printing borders have been reported and as far as possible
tackled...
Could you pls try a recent version, e.g. 4.0.4.2 or 4.1.0.4 ?
thanks!

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 67476] Charts created with LO 4.1.0.4 Calc are not being stored

2013-07-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67476

All my three machines run 64 bit Ubuntu Linux 13.04 totally updated, one
of runs on Core i5, my Lenovo Z470 laptop runs on Core i7 and an HP all in
one runs on a dual core AMD64 processor. All of them have 4 Gb RAM. LO
4.1.4 rc4/release was installed in all as 64 bit version.

LO 4.1.4 was installed from LO download site deb packages on the default
/opt location. I initially noticed the problem while working on my laptop
(One of the many worksheets producing the problem was submitted, with two
screen shots showing a chart before and after saving). The chart types with
the problem were all XY plots with asymmetric error bars on the dots
(connected by straight lines) which represented the data. In some instances
the chart transformed into the diagonal line while editing the chart with
no need of closing-saving-reopening sequences which always produced the
diagonal line shown in one of the screen shots submitted with the bug
report. If the same chart is created with LO 4.0.4 the chart does not
disappear, but is not recovered by opening with LO 4.9.4 Calc, after
creating the chart in LO 4.1.4 Calc and saving the ss.

Please let me know if I can be of any further help.

That's a solution, but I think it's a rather simplistic one. If you look at the
CSV in the attached .ZIP, you will see that many columns are wider than
required. Why could it not be possible for columns that contain a formula to
make that particular column as wide as the longest formula?

I can't reproduce this behavior (yet) with any other autocorrectable words,

A workaround is to use -= for an em-dash.

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 67560

  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Draw: PNG export options not remembered
  Severity: minor
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: crx...@hotmail.com
  Hardware: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.0.0.3 release
 Component: Drawing
   Product: LibreOffice

When you use the export function with PNG format, it will remember the
previously selected state (from a previous export) of the option called "Mode:
Interlaced" but it will not remember the state of "Drawing Objects: Save
transparency."

Steps to reproduce:

* File-> Export
* Choose PNG, name and OK
* In Options box, uncheck "Interlaced" and "Save Transparency"
* Export it (OK)
* Repeat the above and notice in Options, only "Interlaced" remained unchecked.

Both options should be remembered.

Hi John,

Thanks for further imput.

I did think a bit more about it. But since the user interface in LibreOffice
makes clear distinction between autocorrect replace and localized options, I
think there is no error in the program, just something that is not implemented.

It looks as a good idea indeed, so I set the various fields as enhancement and
such.

And the Help indeed reads:
" Exports all text cells with leading and trailing quote characters as set in
the Text delimiter box. If not checked, only those text cells get quoted that
contain the Field delimiter character. "

So it looks like NOTABUG ... but only hard to understand ?

reproducible with 4.0.4 and 4.1.0 releases on Win7 64bit.
issue is more evident if you scroll up and down very fast.

moving it to mab4.0 vs. 3.6 because 3.6 has reached EOL so we are in the
process of closing the meta bug.

Fixing of 46107 IMHO does not at all influence any of the problems reported in
the Accessibility Verifier output, since Accessibility Verifier does not test
accessibility notifications (which is the only thing fixing 46107 changed).

In this attachment: look at the two vertical text boxes left and middle. And at
the right one.

Thorsten: was it Lubos that could look at such issues?
