[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 69900] New: FORMATTING: Conditional formatting not saved when using between with alphabetic strings

2013-09-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69900

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 69900
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FORMATTING: Conditional formatting not saved when
using between with alphabetic strings
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: stefano.dalb...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.0.4.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 86765
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=86765action=edit
Sample file.

Problem description:
Conditional formatting with between clasue for cell value are not properly
saved when the boundary of the between are alphabetic strings.
The end value is not saved properly and when file is reopened, th conditional
formatting doesn't work properly.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Write in four cells the four letters A, B, C, D
2. Select the four cells and open conditional formatting
3. Set as condition that value cell is between B and C
4. Set as stile (e.g.) that character color is red
5. In two cells the letter is shown in red (so far, so good)
6. Save and close the file
7. Reopen the file
8. The cells are no longer with expected formatting
9. Selecting the cells and opening conditional formatting, the end-value of the
between is no longer C but just c (i.e. lower case, no hyphens)

Current behavior:
Conditional formatting between condition with alphabetics is not properly saved

Expected behavior:
To properly record the conditional formatting.

I mean the Win8 theme. :)

Actually we do not draw an arrow separately, we draw a special combobox
dropdown button which has an arrow. So it looks like a theme bug.

To be sure can you run http://privat.rejbrand.se/UxExplore.exe and select
Class: COMBOBOX, Part: CP_DROPDOWNBUTTON, State: CBXS_NORMAL. I guess it will
show the same button without an arrow.

I consider it a bug because it's specific to Windows, and this kind of
behaviour should be unified across platforms. With Linux Mint, LibreOffice
behaves the way I expect it to: it always proposes to use the source ODT path
when exporting a PDF file.

Version: 4.2.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: 981b73c98576ea297cf8244c1cbe1ece783e5ca9

Result:
No crash. Same unwanted behaviour as described in comment #1 and comment #6.

Observation:
After removing the footnote from attachment 86706
- the warnings dissapear
- Ctrl-A selects the whole document

Conclusion:
A footnote exposes a bug in the Select All patch of vmiklos.
This bug results in a crash on openSuSE systems.

As an example (taken from firefox): tab close buttons can take an integer value
from 0 to 3, but the only way to know what each value implies is to search the
internet (which is not possible if you work offline).

Picture Loop with very high CPU load

Somehow I generated cyclic picture references

by copying(paste copy) pictures from another LibreOffice-Writer document
into another(seemingly this) document.

This lead to a nasty system overload
nearly disabling me to work with the document.

Luckily I was capable to mark, paste and copy the
beginning paragraps of the original document
in to another document.

The attached document contains the 'loop'.

The CPU-Load grows tremendously once I brougt this
Paragraph into the View-Range of my larger Document.

Especially Delete Operations on single pictures
seem to make the situation even worse.

Single delete operations in the Navigator-View
seem to work.

  Cheers.

  Andreas

The issue is about FORMATTING. So it about the WYSIWYG of cell content

redraw of the cell content on a canvas of some type. Between the changing of

From my experience on Windows so far this looks to be fixed, I have not
experienced this problem for a long time now. Although I do use LO on Ubuntu
Linux aswell. I have not done an upgrade of LO through a general release
upgrade of Ubuntu in some time. I have always done fresh installations. So I am
not sure if this problem exists/persists in Linux also. I think this bug can be

The same annoying problem persists, progressively worse than before.

When submitting a bug it is hard to imagine the state of mind of the person

The issue is about FORMATTING. So it about the WYSIWYG of cell content

formula, if the cell contents does not change, the issue is restricted to the
redraw of the cell content on a canvas of some type. Between the changing of
the WYSIWIG formatting of the cell and the redraw of the changed FORMATTING,
there seems to be a very superlative and lengthy processing going on.

What I have noticed also, is that similar type behaviour (over committing the
CPU for no apparent reason) when working with graphs (BUT ONLY) when leaving
the graph for cell input. (THUS, if graph is in edit mode, leaving edit mode by
clicking on a cell outside of the graph area). To get past this annoying
nonsense, it is faster to save, close and reopen, than what it is to continue
working because the problem would become progressively worse.

THE LAY MAN INTERPRETATION : The undo-redo history affects the performance of
submitting a changed graph.

The very same workaround helps in the case of FORMATTING. (SAVE, CLOSE,
RE-OPEN)

My comments about bells and wistles are not aimed at the operating system.
Since 3.2 there was a concerted effort in competing with other known systems
that like to boast. Trying to living it up with the Jones's have resulted in
bloated software with no good reason. For instance, what is the purpose of
having 1024 number of sheets with 1024 columns and million lines?

To fill one sheet with all columns and 500 000 rows with a 1 would make the
spreadsheet crashing. WHAT IS THE USE???

A high performing spreadsheet without belss and wistles, is exponentially
better than all the cool stuff on 1/10 of one sheet.

The above scenario also applies to FORMATTING. If the simple formatting
(changing background colour of one cell) is impeded by architecture required by
more advanced formatting, then it would be better to go for only the
rudementary formatting.

This is not a superficial problem, it is a REAL problem. When calculating
numbers, and the rudementary formatting is only used to assist in making sense
of the calculation process, and the formatting frustrates the calculation, it
is like

tail wagging the dog

I would love to emulate this problem, but for obvious reasons, it would be
difficult to do. HOWEVER, knowing the architecture and realizing that what is
being said here accurs between COMIT CHANGE and REDRAW you might suggest a
procedure that I can follow that might emulate the problem predictably.

Thanks to both of you, Thomas and tommy27, for your help with this. Perhaps I
just have a set of presentations that are corrupted (all produced around the

specific to my computer. However, I do find it weird that the problem occurs
even with a new version of the file made with the same images imported from my
local drive.

I'll test it out using the portable version and on another computer and see

Bug ID: 69914
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: UI - Wiget Layout implementation incorrectly labeling
templates and documents as listed in Thumbnail View
panels -- Start Center and Template manager
[Accessibility]
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: vstuart.fo...@utsa.edu
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.0.0.alpha0+ Master
 Component: UI
   Product: LibreOffice

Thus far, at least on the Windows builds while the UI is graphically correct,
the GTK Widget Layout seems to need additional annotation to retain correct UNO
Accessibility API roles.

Version: 4.2.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: 164b6ce7b27c0a9ec19019e7b078b9f8f382007d
TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2013-09-28_16:39:42

The GTK Widget Layout implemented for Start Center and Template Manager has
some annoying UNO Accessibility API flaws in that the ThumbnailView List
correctly names only the first item in the list--and all descendant items on
the list receive the same name. And with keyboard cursor key L,R,U,D
navigation through the list, only the first item will receive focus and update.
Each additional list item will not receive focus, nor refresh its name.

Expected result:

As the Thumbnail View list is traversed, correct index is kept, correct role is
assigned, and parent name and role are correctly reported.

Someone with a current Linux build of Master should probably check behavior
under ORCA and Accerciser. Same for a round with NSAccessibility on OS X with a
current build of master.

I confirm issue on 4.1.1.2 under Win7 64bit.
it's inherited from OOo, affects any LibO release and is still present in AOO
as well.

as Reiner already noted, the different size problem shows up only when the
Auto checkbox is flagged. if you unflag it the subscript will have the same
size as those added from the toolbar button.

as Anastasius pointed out, Writer is not affected by this bug.
only Draw and Impress are.

I have already file this bug that was not corrected in LibreOffice 3.4.

With LibreOffice 4.0 I check to see if the bug has been corrected, but same
behaviour :
- random #Name error when you reload the spreadsheet.

There was the same behaviour with ApacheOpenOffice.

I've file this bug to ApacheOpenOffice : BUG #122840, and it has been VERIFIED
and FIXED.

I think is localized string which can have different meanings in
different languages, e.g. in Spanish is for long year, in Germany for day of
week name.

If any case IMHO the formula is wrong, because it is not right the use of
WEEKDAY(), (except looking for a result away from my understanding right now).
=TEXT(A1,) e.g. results in day of week name in Germany.

(In reply to comment #0)

tested with 4.1.0.4 and 4.1.1.2 under Win7 64bit

 Current behavior:
 - In the head of the letter on the right side, the last line is cut.

please provide a screenshot with arrows on the line are you talking about.
in my PC last line looks already cut in the original .docx file as well, but I
need to be sure we are talking of the same line.

 - The date is moved to the next line and aligned left, but it should be
placed one line further up and aligned right. Looks like one tabulator hop
 too much.

again, post screenshot. if you are talking of 29. september 2013, it looks
already aligned left in the original .docx file and has same position in the
.pdf output.

 - Below the tables are lines with the total amount. In the docx, this lines
are bordered by a double line but in the PDF it's black bars.

confirmed. double line in .docx and thick single line in .pdf

 - The PDF has 4 pages instead of 3 because some lines shifted.

In my PC the .docx has already 4 pages as the .pdf export.

 Operating System: Windows 7
 Version: 4.1.0.4 release

did you try upgrading to 4.1.1.2 and see what happens?

 I'm curious: how?

I see this on the QA mailing list:

...The tag libreoffice-4.1.2.3 (AKA 4.1.2 RC3) has been created. This is
an initially unscheduled RC because of regressions in RC2 that the
QA-Team identified...
