[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 70182] New: Other: Exporting Graphs IS TOO DAMN HARD

2013-10-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70182

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 70182
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Other: Exporting Graphs IS TOO DAMN HARD
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: benigr...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.6.2.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

This isn't a bug. I wanted to submit feedback.

I'm just trying to make a bunch of graphs and export them as jpgs so I can
paste them elsewhere. If I wanted to paste it into another Libre Office
document that'd be fine and easy. But I don't, and it's been a tremendous pain
in the ass. I should be able to just select a graph, right click and tell it
to export it. This is a pretty basic and useful function.
Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 3.6.2.2 release

  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED

 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

While trying to export a PDF from LO-Writer, i encountered that the first
textfields to set a password to either open the document or to have write
access, doesn't accept the letter §. The second textfield, to confirm the typed
in password, accepts the character §, leading to a false password.

Ways to reproduce:
1.) Select 'Export to PDF' from the File menu dialog.
2.) Navigate to 'Security'-tab.
3.) Typ in character § in the first textfield of each option.

This issue has been present in LibreOffice 4.1.2.3 (unsure if inherited from
OOo)

Seems to be a compiler bug. I see the crash if I compile drawing layer and svx
with Clang, not if I compile them with gcc. Apparently in
drawinglayer/source/processor2d/baseprocessor2d.cxx , line 64, with gcc the
call to processBasePrimitive2D() refers to the one twenty lines earlier in the
same file, while with Clang it refers to the one in
svx/source/sdr/contact/viewobjectcontact.cxx, line 98. Whether this is a bug in
Clang or gcc I don't know, or is it perhaps a grey area in the language
specification? The joys of overloading, it makes the code so much easier to
read, both for people and compilers.

This bug report is about opening files _larger than 6.85MB_. If your difficulty
to open a file with Libreoffice does not meet this criterium, please open
another bug report.

@IT: do you encounter this behavior anymore with the current versions (LO 4.0.5
or LO 4.1.2) ? In such a case, please could you provide a link (I guess that
6.85 MB is to big to attach it to this bug report) to a file that _you_ can't
open with LibreOffice ?

--- Comment #1 from Mike Kaganski mikekagan...@hotmail.com ---
Thank you for your feedback.
Actually, it's a valid enhancement request. And maybe even a bug report,
depends on POV.

Currently, the problem is with Writer, Impress and Draw. Calc (since 4.0)
already does exactly what you want: if you right-click a chart in it, there is
Export as graphic... option. So, one may see it as inconsistent behavior, and
thus bug rather than RFE.

As you specified Calc as the component, I may suggest you to update to a newer
version (=4.0) to solve your problem.

Yes, you're right. Clearing Direct Formatting solves this problem.

But that's complicated. I'm a very experienced user of multiple word processing
softwares such as Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro. I never heard of
direct formatting. We shouldn't be an expert to be able to use efficiently
your product.

The formula editor is rarely covered by unit tests. It would be nice if some
more parts are covered by tests, eg. the import and export functions.

There are at least three import filters: ODF Formula (odf), OpenOffice 1.0
Formula (sxm) and MathML 1.01 (mml) - see Tools - Import Formula.

Background is that bugs like fdo#68956 could be avoided with some test
coverage.

That's the idea, but I'm no expert on this ;)

This issue is still apparent in the latest release candidate (4.1.2.3) under
Ubuntu 13.04.

It is a bug of some importance, as it is a regression of functionality vs.
Windows Office.

Folks have used these fonts in earlier documents, and want to be able to
continue to use them (the fonts). It is quite an annoyance when one opens

It appears that OO (I tested this with 4.0.1) does *not* handle this correctly
either.

DOCX containing a 'different first page' with a single section

Problem description:
If LO imports a DOCX that has a 'different first header' style, and then
exports that DOCX - the result is now a file that contains 2 sections - one for
the 'first page' and one for the rest. This is wrong because LO should keep it
only 1 section, as it is in the original DOCX.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Load attached DOCX in LO
2. Save as NEW.DOCX
3. Load NEW.DOCX in Word
4. Exported file now has 2 sections (see screenshot)

Current behavior:
LO exports the single section as 2 sections.

Expected behavior:
LO should export the single section back as a single section.

In addition - the paragraph on the 2nd page is split to 2 paragraphs on pages 2
and 3 (with a section for the new page also).
So to sum it up -
instead of having 2 pages with a SINGLE section,
we have 3 pages with 3 sections (1 per page).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 59989] FILESAVE: LO crashes when using KDE file dialogs

2013-10-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59989

--- Comment #5 from catlover2 inverted...@gmail.com ---
I do not think this bug is resolved. I am experiencing it, or something very
similar, on ArchLinux with LibreOffice 4.1.2.3 and KDE 4.11.2.

The steps for reproducing the issue I am experiencing is:

1. Start LibreOffice Base.
2. Click Text Document
3. Click FileSave As.
4. If it does not crash right away, play around with the dialog a bit; the
places list on the left seems particularly crash-inducing.

As a workaround, go to ToolsOptionsLibreOfficeGeneralOpen/save dialogs and
check Use LibreOffice dialogs. I have not experienced any crashes with that
setting enabled.

Here is my backtrace:

--- Comment #2 from melchiaros melchia...@aol.com ---
Sorry, the file is arround 5MB and the upload is limited here to 3MB- Could
not do the upload.

I have retested it with LibreOffice 4.1.2rc3 on Ubuntu. The procedure causes on
this LibreOffice version a crash.

The downstream report can be found here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1235935

The here missed .odt file can be found here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1235935/+attachment/3862408/+files/Impacting%20the%20bioscience%20progress%20by%20backporting%20software%20fro%20Biolinux.odt

But the file has got some changes during the last two days. Now you must search
for Bio-Linux and replace all with Biolinux (you see it is now the other
way arround).

if we can get feedback that master builds which include the
commit actually fix the problem it can easily be backported
to 4.0 and 4.1 release branches. but the last 4.0.6 branch will be
tagged in a week or so, so needs quick feedback.

daily builds of master available from here:
 http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86@39/

@Michael Stahl: Unfortunately it's useless to test master builds, as desktop
integration features (like file associations shell extensions) are disabled

The lzma2 compression method (used by 7z or tar.xz archives formats) provides a
better compression ratio than deflate (used by zip).

With the right parameter, lzma2 method can use the same memory for
decompression than deflate.

The drawback is a slow compression. However, this could be avoided with multi
core/cpu computers which are used nowadays. With recent computers, 1 process
can write the uncompressed stream into a pipe. Then an other process read
simultaneously the stream from this pipe and compress it with actual
parallelism (1 process per cpu).

I think that LibreOffice documents should use 7z format instead of zip.

i found a version 4.1.2 for mac os x. with that, the problem has mystically
disappeared: i open the sample file, and the correct formatting appears
immediately.

i'm setting this to resolved/fixed, then.
thanks for the hint, as well.

I'd be interested to know what happens with other databases. In the case of
HSQLDB all changes are stored directly to file due to the way the HSQLDB/.odb
interaction works (and apparently HSQLDB lacks proper transaction support) --
with external databases I suspect nothing should happen until a transaction
commited (as is the case with Firebird).

I suspect the problem is simply that Save is erronously not enabled when we
add a row, i.e. we simply have to set the Modified flag when inserting data too
(as happens for most other operations). (This might be a historical artifact of
Base having been tested mainly with HSQLDB?)

That would however mean that in Firebird data is only ever commited to the .odb
file with a Save, whereas HSQLDB always has its data stored immediately, i.e.
there'd be a significant difference between the operation of the two dbs in
practice.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 70144] cannot add row to table in embedded Firebird db

2013-10-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70144

--- Comment #3 from Lionel Elie Mamane lio...@mamane.lu ---
(In reply to comment #2)

I suspect the problem is simply that Save is erronously not enabled when
we add a row, i.e. we simply have to set the Modified flag when inserting
data too (as happens for most other operations). (This might be a historical
artifact of Base having been tested mainly with HSQLDB?)

Yes, there is that horrendous hack that an embedded HSQLDB does a save
data in the ODB on commit, which probably led to disabling the save button.
With Firebird, which I understand saves the data on an explicit save the
ODB action, the save button should indeed be activated on insert, modify,
delete (any data change).

That would however mean that in Firebird data is only ever commited to the
.odb file with a Save, whereas HSQLDB always has its data stored
immediately, i.e. there'd be a significant difference between the operation
of the two dbs in practice.

I though we already had decided they would have this difference, *but*
taking care that autosaves / backup saves have fresh data (not the same
data as the last save), so as to have some level of crash tolerance.

   Summary: [FILEOPEN/FILESAVE] crash loading autosaved
presentation
  Severity: major
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: bonz...@gnu.org
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)

file causing the crash

The attached reduced testcase causes a segfault in libreoffice. The saved file
breaks after a few hours of editing. All times a broken file was saved, I
could recover the presentation (but losing the pictures) by stripping
draw:image tags from the content.xml file.

Problem description:
When in a writer template file (.ott) the field command time (fixed) is used,
then, when creating a new file based on this template file, the time inserted
by the field command is 0:00 instead of current time of file creation.

Steps to reproduce:
1. create a new empty writer project
2. insert a field command time (fixed)
3. save file as template file (.ott)
4. use this file as default template when opening Writer
5. Close Writer
6. Open Writer (create a new project based on template file)

Current behavior:
-- the inserted time is 0:00.

Expected behavior:
The current time on Writer-open time was expected as in previous versions.

Better description: the attached reduced testcase, when opened, segfaults
libreoffice. The original crashing file was produced after a few hours of
editing, and breaks again after a few hours when a good copy is restored from
a backup. It also breaks after a few hours if the image tags are stripped, the
presentation is opened and the pictures are put back. In case it matters, the
first copy of the picture is an .svg I add with Insert/Picture, afterwards I
copy-and-paste an already existing copy of the picture (the same picture occurs
many times in the full presentation).

I'm not a graphics specialist *either* but when you're exporting a text or
graphic in a different format, changing the resolution should not automatically
change the document size. The *only* guess I can hazard is that LO is trying to
maintain the same file size and that, if I increase the resolution, it reduces
the document dimensions?

@Dave
retested with 4.2 alpha (Sept.10 build) and with 4.1.2.3 and earlier versions
under Win7 64bit.

.docx test file still opens as an empty page in 4.2 alpha and 4.1.2 while
earlier versions (tried 3.3.3, 3.4.6, 3.5.7 and 4.0.5) open the .docx file but
show it with incorrect formatting or with missing parts.

even OOo 3.3.0 and AOO 4.0.0 opens .docx file with images but without lines and
some missing text

the .doc test version opens correctly in LibO/OOo/AOO versions.

so there's an inherited issue from OOo opening this .docx file which eventually
become worse with subsequent releases of LibO to the point that current release
and alpha show it as an empty page.

I changed summary notes to generic abnormal .docx file opening since:
- it abends Writer on Mac
- it loads file incorrectly on Windows

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 66419] UI: macro call to close() or dispose() fail to terminate soffice processes

2013-10-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66419

This bug might be a (programmatic) cousin of the same (gui) behavior shown in
bug#59686 , which was confirmed in LibreOffice 4.0.0.1 rc and also 4.0.5

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59686

@Vieri, did you ever make any progress with closing programmatically?

Can you post a concise set of steps to reproduce this problem, like this:
0. disable libreoffice quickstarter (verify no soffice*.* in taskmgr)
1. start scalc
2. tools macros organize macros libreoffice basic
3+. (insert appropriate steps here)
N-1. look in taskmgr.exe to verify soffice is still running
N. try to open another .odt (how exactly?) and it will never visually appear

Methinks your bugreport is still unconfirmed, because there is no easy to
confirm whether or not thisComponent.close(true) functions properly until we
figure out (and reproduce) what exact steps you are trying to take.

Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. open a LibO (writer) document. Copy and paste from within that LibO

2. Open a web page or non-LibO document and copy web page text or url
3. Past that text/url into the still open LibO (writer) document

Current behavior: The copied text from step 1 is pasted into the document

Expected behavior: The copied text from the web page/non-LibO document should
be pasted into the document.

Current work around is to close all LibO documents, which clears the LibO
clipboard. Re-open the LibO document and paste before doing any cut/copy from
within LibO

Previously reported in Bug 672196 which does not appear in current known bug
