[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 70711] New: calling "edit with external tool": linked images disappear, Writer crashes

2013-10-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70711

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 70711
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: calling "edit with external tool": linked images
disappear, Writer crashes
  Severity: critical
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: ulrich.wi...@rz.uni-regensburg.de
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.0.5.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

When selecting "Edit with external tool" for a linked image in Windows/XP, some
popup about some temporary file that cannot be opened appears. After clicking
"OK", the image AND ALL OTHER images signal a "read error". If you select
"Reload" (revert changes), Writer crashes. I could reproduce this.

Hi Tim,

The native mysql connector has been announced recently as known to cause
crashes when working with MariaDB databases, at least on Windows, due to a
problem in one of the MariaDB libraries that were used in the builds of the
connectors. This might also be the cause of your problem.

At present, people will either need to rebuild their native connectors (if they
build themselves) or wait until updated connectors are made available.

2013-10-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon

In the GUI, the user isn't given a choice as to the type of BLOB subtype when
in Table edit/creation mode.

If a form is built based on a table containing

id INT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY
pic BLOB

which is all that the GUI provides for, then a form can be built on that and by
default, double-clicking on the control that maps to the image field will open
the file manager and allow a user to insert an image, with a preview. The image
then gets displayed in the control on the form.

However, saving the record, or moving to a new record and then back again,
removes the image from the display, even though the data is referenced as an
 in the underlying table.

Nice touch with the nick names. Really fascinating work! I see you could not
wait for me to reply and closed the bug report. Much appreciated! Anyways, I
would like to point out that any modern program claiming to be consumer
software of any kind should keep up to the standards of such software. In that
line of thought, using a cache directory for keeping essential files can only
be seen as ill advised, misguided and so on. So if LibreOffice really needs a
file from a common cache folder full of, and I stress, temporary files to
perform essential operations, then this is definitely a bug. A huge one I might
add.
Now if you must know, I do use CCleaner often, but only to clean my registry,
not temporary files, and I am always careful of what it selects before I delete
it. But for the sake of argument, let us say CCleaner is the culprit here. How
was then no other software affected? Better yet, I ran in the same error when I
tried to upgrade LibreOffice on my laptop, where I do not have CCleaner set up.
Why is that? Frankly, I do not know. Maybe you are right that LibreOffice
depends on a file in that directory and that directory is for installer cache
and maybe Windows in its infinite wisdom has a scheduled "Disk Cleaner" set up
that deletes the file, but that does not mean in any way that this is not a
bug. It only means Windows or whoever else is cleaning junk files, which is a
good thing. LibreOffice should have been designed with that liability in mind.
A lot of people are having the same problem and it does not seem to affect
other software. And no software should critically depend on its temporary files
left in a folder that everybody knows they would be deleted at some point.
I can see you like LibreOffice very much and I can tell you I do too. And I am
trying to make it better instead of pretending that everything is OK and some
other software is to blame. In any case, what happens here I think is for the
actual developers to decide, not random people that can only guess what is
actually going on, like you and me. That is why I am reopening the bug.

This is also reproducible in Calc.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Type a word in a cell and save it.
2. Select the word either in the Input Line or in the cell itself.
3. From the menu bar, select Format-Character, select the Font Effects tab, and
see that the Effects dropdown menu is missing on the left side of the tab
window, between the Font Color dropdown menu and the Relief dropdown menu.

Thank you,

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 52025] PRINTING: Can't print COM-10 (#10) size envelopes

Original SDW (same page size) saved as ODT.

I forgot to include the version with the original "#6 3/4 (Personal) Envelope"
page size. This one is simply the SDW opened with v3.5.7.2 and saved to ODT.

Sorry for the large (and bad) example files but I was short on time and not too
eager to dive into "misteries of SVG". I hope that it's clear now what the bug

2013-10-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Versions of original SDW saved as ODT.

I noticed that v3.5.7.2 opens the original SDW with a "#6 3/4 (Personal)
Envelope" page size. That may mean this bug is related to, or a duplicate of,
bug #52926 where the envelope size is reported as not being saved correctly.
The reverted envelope size in this case though is different both in size and
name.

I created the two attached ODTs by opening the SDW in v3.5.7.2 and:

1. Inserted a manual page break at the end of the first page (to preserve
content location).
2. Highlighted all (CTRL+A) and set both pages to use "#10 Envelope" (Format >
Page...).
3. Saved the v3572 file in v3.5.7.2 (as it is not possible to save back to the
old binary format).
4. Exited LO.
5. Opened the v3572 ODT in v4.1.2.2 and saved it as the v4122 ODT.

No problem, this is not a dupe of Bug 49407, because there it's reported
against Draw, not impress. But I'll mark it as a duplicate anyway and change
bug 49407 to a 'more general' case (both draw and impress).

Thanks for reporting!

Does it crash every time you save a document as .ODT or is it only reproducible
with particular documents?

If it is reproducible independent from which file you save, please reset your
user profile (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile). Hope
that'll fix the problem.

I have a Base application I have been using for some time. I have not been
creating or editing many records for some months. I am now trying to create
and editing several hundred entries, but LO 4.1.1.2 BASE is crashing
frequently.

I am using the Ubuntu PPA release 4.1. My BASE database is a front end to
Mysql (now MariaDB), using a MySql(Native) connection.

They usually occur when I have entered or modified data in a form which has
been invoked from a series of previous forms, close that one and automatically
expect to see the previous one show again. I use Basic macros to provide a
type of modal user interface for the application. To explain briefly, it is a
music catalogue, where I have a record set (eg one or more CDs), with several
performances, on tracks, of pieces and/or parts of pieces. I can therefore view
the record set, edit/add a performance or an existing or new piece, and return
back to the record set and see that it now has a new track on it. There are
quite a few bells and whistles.

A number of forms and sub-forms are involved, and a number of tables and
queries. My suspicion is that it is a GUI problem, as opposed to a Database
problem, but I could well be wrong. I have some .xsession-errors but they are
not time-stamped so I can't match them up with the syslog and may well be
unrelated.

I am well aware that this is insufficient information to help diagnose the
problem(s). Supplying a copy of a fully populated database and instructions on
how to use a non-trivial application, with inconsistent results, is, however,
not very practical.

Is there some way I can provide more detail of similar future crashes? I'm no
linux expert.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 70696] New: FORMATTING: Impress Effects Dropdown Menu Missing in Both Mac10.8.5 & Win8

2013-10-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70696

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 70696
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FORMATTING: Impress Effects Dropdown Menu Missing in
Both Mac10.8.5 & Win8
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Mac OS X (All)
  Reporter: petera...@earthlink.net
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.2.3 release
 Component: Presentation
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 87889
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=87889&action=edit
Screen shots of same formatting window in both Impress and Writer.

Thank you for a great software package--I enjoy using LibreOffice.

I couldn't figure out how to search Bugs to see if this is turned in already.
I'm sorry if this is a duplicate.

Problem description:
The Format-Character-Font Effects tab-Effects dropdown menu is missing in LO
Impress. The Effects dropdown menu is present in LO Writer. The Effect dropdown
menu controls capitalization options such as Capitals, Lowercase, Title case
and Small capitals. It is missing from both my Mac OS 10.8.5.updated
installation, as well as my Microsoft Windows 8 installation.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Type a word
2. Select the word
3. From the menu bar, select Format-Character, select the Font Effects tab, and
see that the Effects dropdown menu is missing on the left side of the tab
window, between the Font Color dropdown menu and the Relief dropdown menu.

Current behavior: The Effects dropdown menu is missing from the choices on the
Font Effects tab window in LO Impress.

Expected behavior: I expect the Effects dropdown menu to be present on the Font
Effects tab window in LO Impress, just like it is present in LO Writer.

Thank you,
Peter

Operating System: Mac OS X

Thanks, that is clear.

To reproduce:
- Save template with name AA_foo to folder with many templates
- Looks as it template is not there: it's far at the bottom.

Dear Dominique, thanks for bug confirmation.

Dear Regina,

SVG being valid or not is not an issue here. SVG parser should ignore
everything it does not understand (ie. Inskscape specific things). If you
convert attached SVG to "standard svg" then it's displayed correctly but only
because Inkscape removes CSS classes from SVG and leaves "style" attributes.
Both "class" and "style" attributes are standard, not Inkscape specifc. Take a
look at:

http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG/styling.html#StylingWithCSS

sections 6.11 and 6.12

Here, I'll attach a simple version of the SVG picture that is completely valid
and does not have anything Inkscape specific but still causes the same bug -
"class" attribute is taking precedence over "style" attribute.

We have a daily digest sending information about changes on gerrit. The current
implementation can be found here:

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/gitweb?p=dev-tools.git;a=blob;f=gerritbot/send-daily-digest;h=ea3f9b5767e067147ba6a1fcc6a12448ce78d72f;hb=8ef490cebaf16778f18896448fa454c158368cef

This Easy Hack is to extend the script to:

- keep a local copy of the core repo
- do something like `git log --pretty=%aE master|sort|uniq` on that to find
people, who already did commits
- then highlight those that are _NOT_ in that list in the output (e.g. a
separate section in from of the others)

This is so that we core developers can make sure a first time contributor does
not block too long on a patch waiting for review,

I would like to point out that identifiers like "_SBXCLASS_HXX" and
"_CPPCANVAS_CANVAS_HXX" do not fit to the expected naming convention of the C++
language standard.

Ok. I followed your instruction and I confirm bug under Win7 64bit.
Set status to NEW.

It affects any LibO release from 3.3.0 to current 4.1.2.
the same bug is present in OOo 3.3.0 and AOO 4.0.0

Just experienced same behavior on LibreOffice:
Version: 4.1.1.2
Build ID: 410m0(Build:2)
openSuse supplied.

openSUSE 12.3(Linux 3.11.1-3.gfeffbf9-desktop)|KDE 4.11.2
|Intel core2duo 2.5 MHZ,|8GB DDR3|GeForce 8400GS
(NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-325.15 Patched)

I consider this higher priority than above.

Work Around:

Go to file associations (depends on OS where it at.
Select .csv and add Calc to list of applications that open .csv. Then make Calc
highest one.

Not sure why the default was made text.

Russ

Hi!

A few days ago I've upgraded my OS to Windows 8. I've installed the same
version of JRE (7u40) and LibreOffice(4.1), and there it was working.
Unfortunately ATM I can't go back to Windows 7 and check if the problem is
fixed in the new version.

And if there are no other similar reports then I suppose this error message
will remain a mystery... Unless, of course, the origins of the dll file are
determined, together with the ways of preventing such (even theoretical)
malfunctions.

Thanks for the help. LibreOffice is the best :)
