[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71470] Agenda

2013-11-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71470

--- Comment #2 from davidheat...@blueyonder.co.uk ---
Hi,

In the Writer programme, File/Wizards/Agenda should create a dialogue box to
enable the fields in the Agenda template to be completed. No dialogue box
appears - just the template, which cannot be accessed at all. Other "Wizard"
functions seem to work OK except web page, which is of no interest to me.

D. Heath

71470 from
 Jorendc

I think we need a bit more information to try to reproduce this behavior.

So: can you explain step by step how we can reproduce your 'agenda function
does not work'. As far I know there is no 'general' agenda feature in
LibreOffice (maybe in a specific component (base? Calc?) which I'm not aware
of), so please be a bit more specific. If possible attach also a sample
agenda.

Kind regards,
Joren

Hi,

I can not find the option to change this behaviour.
In the bug thread, "expert config" is being mentioned.
Where do we find the expert config page and the options?
How is it accessed in an installed Libreoffice?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 61727] Rotation of image by grouping images

Control test file from Word Mac 2011, with PDFs showing rendering in Word and
LO.

I thought I would create a basic control test file illustrating:

- rotating then grouping
- grouping then rotating

Attached DOCX is created under Word Mac 2011 with PDFs created via Word Mac
2011 (under MacOS 10.6.8) and LO v4.1.3.2 (under Crunchbang 11 x86_64). In no
case does the rotation appear to be preserved. Not the same version of Word (or
probably DOCX) as in the original report I know, but hopefully useful all the
same.

The ideal option for obtaining a Mac-native interface is to fork the UI code
and use NSToolbar. Whether that can feasibly be subclassed and made 'draggable'
to the sides or not, I don't know (whereupon it would revert to the current
appearance).

you could try downloading the portable version from here:

so you don't have to uninstall the current version

Basic ODT example showing: text box, frame, text box in a frame.

This appears to be a shortcoming in the LO UI as the ODF specification
currently supports rotation of a frame. For clarity, all text boxes (inserted
by selecting T on the Drawing toolbar) are frames:

  Text in a text box.

... and they are rotated by inclusion of the draw:transform attribute of the
element. A frame (Insert > Frame...) has a similar structure:

  Text in a frame.

... yet it cannot be rotated. Right-click on a text box > Position and Size...
> offers a dialog with a Rotation tab. Right-click on a frame > Frame... >
there are no similar options available.

Assuming you are referring to LanguageTool-2.3.oxt as available from
. Note : "For Mac
users: LanguageTool now requires Java 7, which is available for the Mac only as
a 64 bit version. LibreOffice and OpenOffice are only available in 32 bit,
leading to an incompatibility so that LanguageTool cannot be used as an
LibreOffice/OpenOffice plugin on the Mac. The only known workaround is to use
LanguageTool 2.2, which is still available from the download archive, for which
a 32 bit version of Java 6 still exists. LanguageTool 2.2 doesn't require Java
7 but also works with Java 6."

This is entirely my opinion as a user and layperson helper both here on
bugzilla and more extensively in two user forums. As Qubit (QA) indicates
"we're all interested in how we can improve the experience for our users" and I
firmly support that sentiment.

The main danger with the above is that it can result in an increase of reports
like bug #67450. As Joel Madero (QA) points out in the related comments to that
bug, it is fundamentally unhelpful to simply provide an example problematic
file with a comment like "does not work" or similar. A report needs to be more
specific if it is to have any chance of: (a) being understood / comprehended;
(b) being reproduced; (c) being fixed. Developers usually fix single issues. A
small report clearly outlining the steps required to reproduce a single problem
is essentially a better report. If a small example file clearly showing the
problem can be provided, so much so the better.

(In reply to comment #2)
>> This submission process should be very easy & accessible for users, and
>> should *not* require anyone to log in or do anything else other than these
>> two things.

> How would you address the problem of SPAM

I think SPAM is one issue but IMO an even more important one is social
responsibility. This is essential to the wellbeing of any community. Demanding
that participants register for an account promotes this and is a fairly
consistent approach across most sites where users can provide feedback and
generally comment on issues.

We are using Futura Std Light as internal font.

After upgrade my currently installed LibreOffice version from 4.0.6 to 4.1.3,
the font was not found anymore by LibreOffice (shown cursive in the writer UI
font picker element).

Additionally, the font is not properly rendered as Futura Std Light, but as
Futura.

The re-installation of 4.0.6 fixed the problem for the moment.

@Kendy,

Could it be possible to fix this small but annoying issue? Or maybe some code
pointers that would help people to have a look at it? It is a small but very
Mac-unlike detail of LibreOffice.

I appreciate any help about this. :)

merge it back from .po format. When merging back, we need to use the

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 70184] FORMATTING: Adobe Type 1 fonts do not appear in the font selection menu

2013-11-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70184

This problem seems variable according to the particular Type 1 font installed.
Here is an example of some Type 1 fonts I have installed here under Crunchbang
11 x86_64 running LO v4.1.3.2:

oweng:~$ fc-list | grep URW | sort
/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/a010013l.pfb: URW Gothic L:style=Book
/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/a010015l.pfb: URW Gothic L:style=Demi

/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/a010035l.pfb: URW Gothic L:style=Demi Oblique

/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/b018035l.pfb: URW Bookman L:style=Demi Bold

/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/p052003l.pfb: URW Palladio L:style=Roman
/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/p052004l.pfb: URW Palladio L:style=Bold
/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/p052023l.pfb: URW Palladio L:style=Italic
/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/p052024l.pfb: URW Palladio L:style=Bold Italic
/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/z003034l.pfb: URW Chancery L:style=Medium Italic
oweng:~$ fc-list | grep Symbol
/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/s05l.pfb: Standard Symbols L:style=Regular
/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1/Symbol.pfb: Symbol:style=Regular
/usr/share/fonts/type1/mathml/Symbol.pfb: Symbol:style=Regular
oweng:~$ fc-list | grep Gyre
/home/oweng/.fonts/tex-gyre-t1/qcsr.pfb: TeXGyreSchola:style=Regular
/home/oweng/.fonts/tex-gyre-t1/qcsri.pfb: TeXGyreSchola:style=Italic
/home/oweng/.fonts/tex-gyre-t1/qcsbi.pfb: TeXGyreSchola:style=BoldItalic
/home/oweng/.fonts/tex-gyre-t1/qcsb.pfb: TeXGyreSchola:style=Bold

The URW fonts were installed with ghostscript and show up in the Writer
drop-down Font Name list. The Symbol fonts were installed with ghostscript and
the xfonts-mathml package. Again both Symbol and Standard Symbol show up in the
font list. The GNU TeX Gyre Schola font is available:

http://www.gust.org.pl/projects/e-foundry/tex-gyre/schola/qcs2.005bas.zip

The Type 1 files can be found under /fonts/type1/public/tex-gyre/ in the zip
but regardless of whether installed into ~/.fonts/ (as shown) or
/usr/share/fonts/ (using root privileges) they do not show up in the drop-down
font list. As a test, the OTF variant (in the same zip under
/fonts/opentype/public/tex-gyre/) if installed, does show up in the list of
fonts as "TexGyreSchola".

This would appear to be confirmation of the problem, but if someone else can
also confirm using this font (to ensure this is not a problem with my system)
that would be great. Thanks.

This bug still exists in 4.1.3.2 (Linux).
Last version seen working correct was 3.6.x
It doesn't matter, if the section is protected with a password too or not.

This bug is very annoying in forms where it is essential, that the user can
only fill in fields but is not allowed to change the text.

Hitting key F9 or refresh via menu works. Then the new content of the input
field is shown.

Check fields in protected sections work like expected: checking/unchecking is
shown immediately. Seems the bug is only related to input fields.

Please just use 'bug 67450' (without the # sign) when referncing bugs so that
the bug link is clicky... :)

As for your fear...

> As Joel Madero (QA) points out in the related comments to that bug,
> it is fundamentally unhelpful to simply provide an example problematic
> file with a comment like "does not work" or similar.

While I agree that the more precise a users initial description of the problem
the better, the fact is, it only takes a minute or so to download a problematic
document, open it in both Libreoffice and Microsoft Office (remember - this
bug/feature request is *only* about Microsoft file format issues), and look for
for obvious errors/problems.

> A report needs to be more specific if it is to have any chance of: (a) being
> understood / comprehended; (b) being reproduced; (c) being fixed.

Again, I agree that in most cases more detail is better, but I totally disagree
that a developer cannot simply open a document in both programs, and spend a
few minutes, and ascertain formatting problems/discrepancies... possibly even
doing a much better job of doing so than the original reporter would ever be
capable of.

A bare minimum from the user should just be something like 'open it in
Libreoffice Writer 4.1.3 and Microsoft Word 2010 and compare pages 1 & 2'...

And these two pieces of information (the versions of each software) should
obviously be part of the minimum mandatory info the user must provide.

> We've had a bit of discussion about whether one should have to
> login before submitting a bug report or feedback.
>
> How would you address the problem of SPAM

Explain in very clear language that in order for the user to submit a document
for analysis, they must either log in with their bugzilla account, or provide
an email address for confirmation purposes. Clearly explain that before their
submission will be accepted, they will have to click a confirmation link in a
confirmation email that will be automatically sent to them upon their initial
submission. At least this would be the most obvious way off the top of my head.

> I think SPAM is one issue but IMO an even more important one is social
> responsibility. This is essential to the wellbeing of any community.
> Demanding that participants register for an account promotes this and is a
> fairly consistent approach across most sites where users can provide
> feedback and generally comment on issues.

Again, I am much more concerned with Libreoffice having improved file format
fidelity with Microsoft Office document formats than I am forcing someone to
'participate' in our community more than they wish to do. Encourage it,
certainly, but don't *require* it...

Example ODTs and PDFs under v3341, v3572, and v4132.

I am attaching some example documents showing the likely symbols used from the
OpenSymbol font for fax, telephone, and mail (there is no correct fax symbol).
All have been generated under Crunchbang 11 x86_64 running these versions of
LO:

- v3.3.4.1 OOO330m19 Build:401 (OpenSymbol v2.4.3)
- v3.5.7.2 Build ID: 3215f89-f603614-ab984f2-7348103-1225a5b (OpenSymbol

- v4.1.3.2 Build ID: 70feb7d99726f064edab4605a8ab840c50ec57a (OpenSymbol
v102.3)

All symbols display as expected, when the two older files are opened under
v4.1.3.2. From the description it sounds like the Helvetica font is somehow
being substituted for OpenSymbol (perhaps because the OpenSymbol font cannot be
found)?

"a file originally created using Word 2013, and contains LTR left aligned text.
It opens fine using the above LO build, but if I save again and reopen, it
turns into RTL left aligned. If then I open the file with Word 2010 SP2, it
opens as RTL right aligned. It's a bug only with this file, I can't reproduce
it with other files."

Steps to reproduce:
1- open the attachment.
2- save it as docx.
3- open it again.

Current behavior:
the direction changed to RTL.

Expected behavior:
the direction still LTR.

I pretty much completely agree with Owen here. The lower we set the bar the
more users will do what people tend to do which is "the least bit possible" -
this is why I routinely puts bugs in NEEDINFO even if perhaps if I took a bit
more time I could understand it - the reason being is that in the past this
philosophy was taken and basically bug reports continued to get worse and
worse. "Open this document and see the problem" when the problem is 10 pages
long with text and other things going on - you say "it only takes a minutes"
but let's say a bad report takes 3-5 minutes to triage (which isn't terrible)
but a good report of the same problem takes 30 seconds - when we're talking
about thousands of bugs, really it's the least a bug reporter can do is make it
"as easy and clear as possible" so as not to disrespect QA's time - time is
money, and mine is surely stretched thin right now.

As for registering - we've already seen trolls even with registration and some
people have been banned because of it. A much better solution is to get openID
working so they don't have to have so many accounts - and this is currently
being looked into. Again, the lower we set the bar the more work is puts on the
shoulders of a very small team and that simply isn't fair. FLOSS is a
community, if individuals don't want to be part of that community, there are
plenty of other products out there that they can choose from or, they can sit
patiently and wait for fixes (instead of giving a terrible report, getting
irritated when the report goes into NEEDINFO and then every couple months
saying things like "any progress" "why isn't this fixed yet" "can we expect a
fix soon", either be a member of the community or don't, else, you're trying to
take from the community and give nothing in return.

In general though I don't see this being a problem at all - I very rarely see
users angry about having to register and usually if I put a bug into NEEDINFO
the user apologizes for lack of clarity and gives precise steps.

If a bug requires me to open it in Microsoft Office then I can't solve the bug,
quite literally. I don't have Microsoft Office anywhere running at my home. And
there are quite some with me who only have/use LibreOffice.

That's why we are working towards openID. To lower this a bit. But I agree with
JMadero in comment 5 about this. The easier it gets to enter a text the more
bullies you attract.

And when they file a bug that way, who is going to pick it up? We don't really
have the manpower to keep up now, let alone when it increases with people who
aren't interested in anything but filing their bug with the minimal
requirements (and even try hard to go below that).

I have changed the status to blocker as I feel that 4.1.4 should not be

Let's just think about numbers also:

Let's say the average developer is probably making somewhere in the range of
$25-$40/hr ( perhaps more, just throwing out a number). You say you disagree
that a developer can't just open a bug and spend a few minutes trying to guess
at what the user is trying to point us to. Let's say the few minutes is 5-10
minutes, we get 25 bug reports a day or so. So now we're at somewhere between
$50-$100 a day wasted because users don't provide clear steps - this is really
just unacceptable. Again, just to reiterate my previous point, you can either
be a part of the community and share in the fruits of our mutual labor or you
can sit on the side lines and "get what you get when you get it" - I honestly
wouldn't be opposed to "kudos" points on our bug tracker so users who are clear
and concise see benefits to being awesome. This is probably really unlikely to
happen but if every user gave 1 hour a year or $1 dollar a year - well let's
just say we'd be an awesome shape. Instead what we have is tens of millions of
users and less than a couple thousand infrequent contributors and probably less
than 500 frequent contributors (meaning in every team, devs, QA, localization,
etc . . .) and some people suggesting that we ask less of our users and let
them keep demanding so much of our time - seems like a counter productive
strategy

IMHO this report doesn't provide anything clear that we can use going forward.
My suggestion is mark as INVALID.

If there are specific individual things that we want (such as openID) I suggest
a bug report (enhancement) for the one single thing and that "bugzilla" or
whatever is in the title of the bug. If this report is just saying

1. No registration
my vote is no (but open to openID which should be its own report)

2. Allow users to submit documents without mandatory steps required
again my vote is no (I think requirements should be stricter actually)

3. Allow users to submit without info about their system
again, my vote is no (absolutely not, complete waste of QA's time, again I
think the requirement should be stricter)

4. The "questions" by the system
As Qubit has mentioned - we're talking about a BSA version 2.0 - this is really
Qubit and Rob's project - I am hardly in a position to demand anything of their
time as I can't contribute much on the technical side. I do plan on diagramming
out questions so that they can use what they want when we get to that project
(which won't be until 2014 or later, this is valid but should be in its own bug
with clear and precise language)

I guess because it's pretty unclear what exactly is being asked here other than
the three things above (which actually is 4 reports in one I suspect), again my
suggestion is marking as INVALID.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71650] New: BUGZILLAASSISTANT: More Automated Bug Submission Process Based on Yes/No Questions

2013-11-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71650

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 71650
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: BUGZILLAASSISTANT: More Automated Bug Submission
Process Based on Yes/No Questions

OS: All

  Hardware: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: Libreoffice
   Product: LibreOffice

As we have discussed in the past, it would be great to have a BSA2.0 or some
such thing where the majority of the process is done automatically via simple
yes/no questions and the system "adapts" to the users answers. I am willing to
do a tree diagram of the options.

Benefits of this would be that at the end we would be:

1. Much more information from the user

2. Automagically prioritize a bug based on responses

3. Require more non optional information when it's appropriate, example: can a
simple test document show this problem (yes/no) if they say yes, automatically
require them to attach a document.

4. Perhaps it can be used to get clearer steps (but this is a bit trickier to
do)

5. Offer a ton of benefits for those who English isn't their primary language,
require the user to type less

For various reasons, QA is supportive of implementing OpenID support in
Bugzilla. This would (hopefully) lower the barrier to users filing new bug
reports, and would allow us to do interesting things in the future, such as
creating tools to move a Bugzilla bug -> Ask LibreOffice question (or vice
versa).

We should wait on this improvement until we migrate Bugzilla to a separate
instance.

So I think we have two choices here
1) We relax restrictions and instruct QA to triage reports more quickly, or
2) We keep/tighten restrictions, and give QA more time per report

Either one will discourage some subset of our userbase; I'm not sure which one
is optimal.

It is not needed to set the new path as default path for writing, it hangs
already for read-only paths.

It does not only hang in case of template path, but for AutoText and AutoCorr
too. It does not hang when changing the path of Images.

 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 89276
  --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=89276&action=edit
A screenshot showing the text.

Problem description:
The parameter description for 'No thousands separator' in the FIXED function is
overly complicated and confusing.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open an instance of Calc, launch the Function Wizard and double-click on the
FIXED function.
2. Click in the 'No thousands separator' input box to bring upt the explanation
in the wizard.

Current behavior:The current text is displayed, quite correctly.

Expected behavior:
To simplify this text and explicitly explain the point of the parameter, alter
the text to something like;
'Thousands separator. If 0 or omitted the locale group separator is used else
the separator is suppressed.'

I appreciate this is not a defect as such but the current text is very poor. I
don't know of any other way to bring this up than as a bug.

A question for understanding: is it expected that when changing writing
direction to RTL text should also be right aligned if it consists of non-RTL
letters, e.g. is written in Latin script? Or should it be left aligned in that
case?

When we make the entering of bugreports easier we don't satisfy our user-base.
Because the bugs they enter won't be replyed to, so they are still angry
afterwards. So choice 1 will get you a angry userbase and angry community. The
2nd option gives you a angy userbase.
For me there is no choice as there is only 1 valid option as long as the
QA-community isn't MUCH bigger.

* RTL and LTR functions used to decide where to put weak characters and how to
mix different directionality words.

* Alignment should follow the "document/parent object" directionality, if RTL
all text should be aligned right by default... and so on.

To make it more clear there is a difference between applying RTL to text or to
(document/parent object), if you apply RTL to text it hasn't to be aligned
right, it should keep the previous alignment as is...

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 64499] Goalseek does not get answer although Excel has no problem on same sheet saved in xls format

2013-11-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64499

Hi Foss
I think I initially submitted an xls file (RetirementCalc.xls), but I may
have saved it as an ods file as well. It makes no difference they both
give the same problem when goal seek is run in LibreOffice. It is a file
to calculate how much one can draw (cell B6) to reach the target at the
number of years. To do this one runs goal seek (or makes many successive
changes to cell B6). Running goal see (Tools, Goal Seek)one would tell it
to set Formula cell D7, Target value = 0, Variable cell B6. However
LibreOffice (like OpenOffice before it) does not find a solution. However
Excel does not have a problem withe this - In fact the excel file has a
macro to do this automatically, which I was intending to move to
LibreOffice.

I made a small test file doing something similar and it ran Goal Seek fine,
so there is some problem with the convergence algorithm in this case.

Hope this helps
Bruce

2013-11-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63546

This entire bug is only about the text alignment within one cell, not text
portions or weak characters. Which is similar to paragraph level. Also, this is
about the alignment that should result if the WRITING DIRECTION was set to RTL
for a cell, which overrides the sheet's writing direction. Of course when no
direction is set at cell level then the sheet's direction shall be considered.

Still I'd like to know what alignment should result if the writing direction is
RTL (sheet or cell level) and the text for example starts with a Latin letter.
Should the cell's alignment be right or left in that case (if no explicit
alignment is set).
