[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71339] EDITING sigma icon (sum function) operating on selected range
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71339 --- Comment #6 from Dominique Boutry --- "Click on the Sigma, then select [the range]" : I appreciate the simplicity of this assertion (understanding it is preceded by "Select the cell where you want the SUM, then"). In this case, there would be no tentative of misuse if the sum was unique and housed only in the (unique) active cell, instead of trying a possibly useless computing on all selected cells. However, the feature consisting in filling in 1 clic the empty bottom line of a table with column SUMs (on a proposed range which is globally rectangular) is provided both in Excel, AOO and LibO, so we can't get rid of it as easily, even if it is impossible to subsequently adjust the ranges globally. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61918 --- Comment #1 from Owen Genat --- (In reply to comment #0) > In MSWord, a user can make a document with a text box, convert that text box > to a frame (in order to keep the image from becoming larger than the frame, > and merge an image from a variable file into the frame. In LO, when I try > that Please indicate the explicit steps taken to do this, because there is no similar ability in LO. A text box is a type of frame, but it cannot receive a graphic and cannot be converted in the manner indicated. The Insert > Frame... facility allows the insertion of a frame that can in turn have a graphic object inserted into it. This also limits the dimension of any inserted graphic. Presumably the reference is to using "merge words" (from the indicated chapter) like or in a text box, which then expand / link to the graphic in question. This will not work for a text box for the reason indicated. Please try this in the type of frame mentioned and report back if you still have the problem. > A similar problem occurs when the user tries to merge any (not just an image) > "merge word" into a table. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59801 Owen Genat changed: What|Removed |Added OS|Windows (All) |All Status|UNCONFIRMED |NEW Severity|normal |enhancement Priority|medium |low Summary|EDITING: enhancement|EDITING: Add information on |request: add information on |how to manage (edit and |how to edit (=change) |delete) caption text |caption text and how to |(especially for graphics) |delete captions completely | Component|Writer |Documentation Depends on||67619 Ever confirmed|0 |1 --- Comment #1 from Owen Genat --- I am confirming this bug. Changes: - Status set to NEW. - Component set to Documentation (although it also relates to WWW and the underlying Writer facility) as this is what the original report indicates. - Platform to All. - Importance to low, and severity to enhancement (refer next point). - Dependency on bug 67619 added as this seems like the related enhancement request to get the Writer facility itself improved. It would be good if someone from QA could determine if one of these is a duplicate of the other or whether separate bugs can be kept to track changes to a facility and the related documentation. - Summary edited to more clearly indicate that the problem is with edit and delete tasks of managing caption text, particularly in relation to graphics. Under GNU/Linux running v4.1.3.2, right-click on an inserted graphic > Caption... > click Help button results in this link: https://help.libreoffice.org/swriter/modules/swriter/ui/insertcaption/caption_edit?Language=en-US&System=UNIX&Version=4.1 ... which here displays "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, or search the related logs, but you do not have permission to create this page." In the Writer Guide v4.0, pp.257-260 and pp.284-286 there is information on adding captions to graphics and tables respectively. There is no information on subsequent editing or removal. The problem of caption removal for graphics is especially difficult due to the caption paragraph, by default, being inserted into a frame with the graphic. I feel part of the problem here is that there is a user expectation to be able to more simply alter caption details by right-clicking on the related object (graphic or table) selecting Caption... and THEN be offered clearer options for add / edit / delete. Currently the entire facility is centred on the task of adding captions. Changing / improving the documentation will likely depend upon enhancing this facility i.e., bug 67619. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

My problem is mainly with LibreOffice Calc. I am utilizing it mostly for account book keeping. As such, I always have to format the cells by changing to my favorite fonts, number style (using separator, decimal point etc.) or date format (in accordance with the standard usage of my country i.e. dd/mm/). However, the problem I always encounter with Calc is that whenever I re-open any existing files which I have formatted as explained above the cells revert to default values. This is quite stressful as I have to re-format the cells repeatedly. I wish my report here will get your utmost attention. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56613 --- Comment #8 from gekach...@yahoo.com --- Additional observations about the animation of the border around a selected spreadsheet region after a copy: A single row of ~12 cells produces a CPU load of 8-11%. A single column of ~35 cells produces a load of 5-8%. But the region 35 rows by 12 columns produces a load of 35-40%. (Guess: some graphics layer is redrawing the whole rectangle contents at each animation step, not just the border. [The perimeter of the whole region is less than the sum of the perimeter of 1 row and the perimeter of 1 column. If it was just drawing the perimeter, then the drawtime should be less than the sum. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 56613] High CPU usage for the Copy animation in Calc
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56613 gekach...@yahoo.com changed: What|Removed |Added Status|UNCONFIRMED |NEW CC||gekach...@yahoo.com Ever confirmed|0 |1 --- Comment #7 from gekach...@yahoo.com --- On LibreOffice 4.1.3.2 running on WinXP sp3. Steps to reproduce: 1. New Sheet (control-N) 2. Select All (control-A) 3. Copy (control-C) Result: CPU load goes up to maybe 35-40% (on an older laptop). It especially occurs after control-A (select-all) copy selections, even though no "racetrack" animation is visible in that case. (No animated moving dashed line around selection, like marquee chase lights.) The load is about the same after a 35-row by 12 column on-screen copy selection. Expect: Very low CPU load (only for animation visible on screen, none if not visible). (Load is near 0 for small copy selection animations around just a few cells.) Other concerns: >From a user's perspective it can seem a little mysterious because clicking in a cell makes the shaded background selection go away, but the problem continues. (Maybe because a thread continues drawing the invisible "racetrack" animation.) A click in the input-line field will make it stop. It is mildly annoying because it makes the fan louder. It also shortens battery life. So after copying data from one spreadsheet to another, when a user hears the fan running even though everything is idle, the user has to go back and find which Calc window still has a selection and click in the input line. (I did not find an option to turn off this animation. If the purpose of the high load is to make the user go back and do something to end the animation, stop the thread, and save the energy, it seems like there should be less annoying solutions, such as ending the animation after a period, just leave the dashed line.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71842] headings stick together - Creating a new line result in unexpected empty space
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71842 --- Comment #6 from Ady --- (In reply to comment #5) > Hm - well the original issue is showing up in every single one of my > outlines (70+ pages), what I do is I first throw in all the > headers/subheaders and then I fill in the gaps. But every time I push enter > the headers jump pages. > The "Keep with next paragraph" setting (in the specific style you are using) explains it all. When you "fill in the gaps", you are inserting new paragraphs with new default styles, so in that moment Writer is "able" to separate the 2 paragraphs (the one above and the one below the new filled in gap) which, until that same moment, were "forced" to be kept together. This explains the initial jump to the second page too. > Furthermore a real problem is that ctrl+z doesn't reverse the change which > to me seems to most definitely be a bug No, it is not. The "Keep with next paragraph" setting is part of the applied style. There is no particular (individual) "Keep with next paragraph" step to undo. So when you "undo", Writer is not returning back *that* step, but the latest step (see the list in the "undo" and "redo" icons). The described behavior is all just a consequence of the way you are working. I would suggest one possible alternative (among many): 1_ use an extra [ENTER] between the soon-to-be headings; 2_ mark all as heading1 style; 3_ use "find and replace" with regex so to replace the current "heading1" style of the [enter]-only paragraphs with the "default" style. 4_ fill in the gaps. Of course, there are many alternative methods that would make your work-flow less "traumatic". In any case, I don't see a bug here. I am leaving this report open, but if you agree with me, please close as NOTABUG.
