[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 73410] Wrong results from rounding functions for large argument
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73410 --- Comment #3 from Bastiaan Braams bjbra...@gmail.com --- The Wikipedia reference is to be appreciated because the relevant IEEE-754 standard (1985 original or 2008 revision) is behind a subscription barrier. I will refer to the standard nevertheless, and for present purposes Std 754-1985 suffices. Section 5, Operations, is the relevant part. I quote: All conforming implementations of this standard shall provide operations to add, subtract, multiply, divide, extract the square root, find the remainder, round to integer in floating-point format, convert between different floating-point formats, convert between floating-point and integer formats, convert binary --- decimal, and compare. Subsection 5.5 expands on the specification of rounding to integer. For my posted example the situation is simple: the input value is an exactly representable integer, y=power(2,50)+1. Following Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc offers a bunch of functions to perform rounding to integer; they include round(.,0), roundup(.,0), rounddown(.,0), trunc(.,0), ceiling(.,1), floor(.,1) and int(.), where I use the . symbol to denote the free argument. For integer argument, as in the present case, there can be no ambiguity about what is the result of rounding to integer; the mathematical result value is the same as the input value. Moreover, given that the input value is a representable IEEE-754 number likewise this result value is exactly representable; it is the same value. It is an error in Microsoft Excel and in LibreOffice Calc that a different result is returned. (The present situation is very different from the familiar situation of adding and subtracting decimal numbers with two digits behind the decimal point and finding a result that differs from the correct mathematical result by some value much less than 0.01.) I note that the tests of this kind of arithmetic can be confusing, because in fact Microsoft Excel 1997 (and later) and LibreOffice Calc deliberately violate IEEE Std 754-1985 for arithmetic very close to a cancellation threshold [1]. I quote: Excel 97, however, introduced an optimization that attempts to correct for this problem. Should an addition or subtraction operation result in a value at or very close to zero, Excel 97 and later will compensate for any error introduced as a result of converting an operand to and from binary. It is not very clearly expressed, and Optimization would not be my choice of words. Anyway, this concerns plain arithmetic and it muddles the tests, but it does not affect the present issue with the rounding functions. I note that my report received the lowest ranking in both columns for importance; that is not my assessment. The numerical error is tiny, sure, but it may break logic in a code if the result of rounddown(.,0) applied to a positive number can actually return a larger number, and I think that the reputational cost is not to be trivialized. One may recall the Pentium division bug. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 73499] New: Linked Textboxes Grouping Cause partially Missing Text and Messed Layout in LO Writer
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73499 Priority: medium Bug ID: 73499 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: Linked Textboxes Grouping Cause partially Missing Text and Messed Layout in LO Writer Severity: blocker Classification: Unclassified OS: All Reporter: wilson9...@yahoo.com Hardware: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Version: 4.1.4.2 release Component: Libreoffice Product: LibreOffice Created attachment 91859 -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=91859action=edit text get missing in older doc file As you can see, both MSO and LO support linked textbox, where text can flow from one box into the other. With doc files, everything works fine if not perfect, until the textboxes are GROUPED. Depending on the MSO version, the file in question is saved with, grouped and linked text boxes may get UNLINKed in different ways, in some case the text is missing in a unrecoverable fashion, which is worse than messed layout. For doc files created from MSO 2003 and previous, the text flows are broken into corresponding grouped but unlinked text boxes in LO. This could have been acceptable for viewers. But this breaking process consumes 1 character each time it breaks a text flow, which means every previously linked textbox got one trailing character missing, except the last box. And there doesn't seem to be a way to recover this missing text in LO along. (see attachment for example ) For doc files generated by MSO 2007 (and above?), Grouped Linked Textbox got unlinked, and all the text is crammed into the first textbox in LO. Other textbox got empty. Besides the first textbox is expanded vertically for as long as necessary to avoid text overflow, which messed up the layout. With docx file , all linked textbox are broken in LO. The Grouped ones are merged and enlarged horizontally in a uncontrolled way beyond the page border. Not grouped but linked ones become empty except the first textbox with overflowed text hidden. As you may have noticed in daily publications, linked textbox is a very basic and common tool in desktop publishing. And missing text is a real deal breaker. We really need it to work correctly. Please fix this feature in doc format. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68148 --- Comment #42 from leo l...@habmalnefrage.de --- The first attachment from Ashok makes it clear, what the bug is about. So, what is unclear about that summary of the file? Did you ever open it? It already fulfills your first two of your requests. Perhaps the subject-adaption is still missing, but all your requests are already fulfilled. And to be honest, I have no real clue, what an appropriate subject for this bug would be. Something like ? But both excludes the different behavior to MS - which I cannot evaluate if THAT cross-compatibility should be covered here as well. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73285 --- Comment #6 from actionmystique actionmysti...@gmail.com --- Sorry for the delay; I'm doing this on my free time. 1) You receive numerous reports about this slow scrolling issue and you somehow manage to close them! Isn't there a problem here? 2) My memory enhancement proposal might be related to this issue: suppose that you have more than 256 x 1MB images (or a high number of images so that the total amount of memory necessary to store/handle them exceeds 256 MB) inside a particular document, how would this situation be handled by the code? 3) Bug 45302 was raised (and closed due to inactivity) for this exact issue e.g., raising the limit of the Use for LibreOffice field above 256MB. Overall however bug 47148 may be the reason for this particular limitation. As far as I understood, the bug 47148 was issued with some much earlier LibreOffice releases. Requesting more than 256 MB for the images should be possible or something should be corrected inside the code. 4) I can hand over the big document as I have already done in the past with other issues. However, this should be tested within the same environment (Windows 7, English version of LO 4.1.4.2), otherwise the results might be different. Everything works fine at the beginning; things get slower and slower when you begin to edit it, save it, close it, edit it, save it, close it and so on for a few days. That makes me think there might be an issue with memory management: is all memory correctly released when the file is saved and closed? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 73410] Wrong results from rounding functions for large argument
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73410 Markus Mohrhard markus.mohrh...@googlemail.com changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REOPENED|RESOLVED Resolution|--- |WONTFIX --- Comment #4 from Markus Mohrhard markus.mohrh...@googlemail.com --- (In reply to comment #3) The Wikipedia reference is to be appreciated because the relevant IEEE-754 standard (1985 original or 2008 revision) is behind a subscription barrier. [1] Floating-point arithmetic may give inaccurate results in Excel - Example When a Value Reaches Zero http://support.microsoft.com/kb/78113 We implement exactly the same optimization technique to work around some of the floating point accuracy problems. This is part of our core code and will not be changed. I'm sorry there is nothing to discuss. This is a technical decision that you have to live with if you want to use Libreoffice Calc. Please don't reopen this bug as I explained already that this will never be changed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 45904] move java based api tests to c++
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45904 --- Comment #14 from Ricardo rivera...@gmail.com --- (In reply to comment #9) So I'll try to add a few more details but I'm currently on vacation. So please excuse if it is not in as much detail as it should be. Currently our api test code is at qadevooo/tests/java/ and there in there in the folders IFC and mod. The implementation is divided between these two folders to represent our two parts of the api implementations. The sender IFC part is for the interface definition that is represented in our api through the IDL files in offapi and can be found at api.LibreOffice.org. the mod part is for the actual implementation that implements several interfaces. We have a similar structure for the c++ tests. The test code for the interfaces can be found in test/ and the code for the implementations for calc in sc/qa/extras. Each file in sc/qa/extras represents one implementation file and is one cppunit test that is registered by a make file in sc/ and in sc/module_sc.mk. the new tests just make it explicit which interfaces are tested while it is implicitly done in the old java tests by querying for all interfaces the object provides. So we now need a two step process to convert old tests. First convert the interface test code and implement it in test/ and secondly convert or better write a clean new implementation for the api implementation. The c++ implementation should however try to make the tests better by using the assertion macros that are provided by cppunit, make explicit what was implicit in the old implementation and improve the diagnostic messages. A good start would be to look at some of Tue code that I already converted to c++. If you have more questions please ask and I'll try to answer as soon as possible. I'll return next week from my vacation so I can answer questions after that also by irc. This is what needs to be done, if I interpreted correctly: 1. Pick a folder from qaDevOOo/tests/java/ifc (Pick an interface) 2. Implement the interface picked into test/source (Organized into folders as in original implementation 3. Pick a folder from qaDevOOo/tests/java/mod (Test cases, organized in folders, let's call it mod_name here) 4. Implement the tests into the folder mod_name/qa/extras (mod_name folder at project root) Is this correct? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73503 Priority: medium Bug ID: 73503 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: VIEWING: Graphical environment crashes Severity: normal Classification: Unclassified OS: Linux (All) Reporter: ars1...@hotmail.com Hardware: Other Whiteboard: BSA Status: UNCONFIRMED Version: 4.1.4.2 release Component: Writer Product: LibreOffice Created attachment 91866 -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=91866action=edit Screenshots Problem description: I am using the last version of LibreOffice on Linux Mint 16 MATE edition and the graphical environment crashes when I change the colour of the selected text. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a new document 2. Select the style to the line (for example head style)(Sorry I am using libreoffice in spanish and I don't know how it is called in english, in spanish it is formato, encabezado 1 It can be text format or something similar, see the screenshots to localize the menu I mean) 3. Write some words 4. Select those words and change their colour font (in my case, I changed to one of the dark blues) 5. Then the bottom bar of the OS disappears and I have to close libreoffice and change some windows to it appears again. As you can see in the screenshots, the barof the bottom disappeared in the last screenshot. I Have tried to show you how to reproduce the problem so I hope I can help. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 73329] StartCenter does not display Personas font colours
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73329 --- Comment #2 from Peter Maunder peter.maun...@wanadoo.fr --- Created attachment 91867 -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=91867action=edit Writer 4.2 with City Green Personas showing White font I normally create our own personas for use on FireFox, Thunderbird, and LibO. I Keep the Personas in the /Gallery/Personas folder using a standard name Header.jpg;footerJpg; for the Personas and #ff for the font colour (red), #00 for the accent. Footer and accent are not yet supported by LibO. to illustrate the problem, I have downloaded a Personas City Green from Firefox using the LibO personalization, own theme menu. City Green has a black background and hence uses the font colour #ffcfcf (very white). The white font is displayed when accessing Writer, Calc etc. by opening a file directly. If you open the same file by accessing the Start Center the font shows as black. Black on Black is not possible to read. Shut the system, reopen file directly, the font shows again. Personas have to support the font colour function to allow a good colour to be chosen. I attach below the settings from the registrymodifications.xcu file created when LibO dowloaded the City Green personas. item oor:path=/org.openoffice.Office.Common/Miscprop oor:name=Persona oor:op=fusevalueown/value/prop/item item oor:path=/org.openoffice.Office.Common/Miscprop oor:name=PersonaSettings oor:op=fusevalueheader.png;footer.png;#fffcfc;#00/value/prop/item I realise now that this is not new to 4.2, but also exists as a problem with 4.1.4 but I never used the Strart Center with that version either. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 73285] EDITING: Very slow scrolling with big documents
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73285 --- Comment #9 from tommy27 ba...@quipo.it --- (In reply to comment #6) Sorry for the delay; I'm doing this on my free time. 1) You receive numerous reports about this slow scrolling issue and you somehow manage to close them! Isn't there a problem here? we don't CLOSE problems, we just CLOSE duplicates. the policy of the bug tracker is to keep open just one single report for the same issue. that's what happened... as a QA member I've noticed that your issue was pretty the same of Bug 63433 and I marked it as a duplicate. see Comment 2 2) My memory enhancement proposal might be related to this issue: suppose that you have more than 256 x 1MB images (or a high number of images so that the total amount of memory necessary to store/handle them exceeds 256 MB) inside a particular document, how would this situation be handled by the code? as already said before (see Comment 4) you should open a new clean report with this enhancement proposal. 3) Bug 45302 was raised (and closed due to inactivity) for this exact issue e.g., raising the limit of the Use for LibreOffice field above 256MB. Bug 45302 was closed due to lack of feedback from reporter. when we mark an issue with NEEDINFO and do not receive a reply in 6 months we mark this as INVALID Overall however bug 47148 may be the reason for this particular limitation. As far as I understood, the bug 47148 was issued with some much earlier LibreOffice releases. Requesting more than 256 MB for the images should be possible or something should be corrected inside the code. I don't know. only a developer may answer to this. 4) I can hand over the big document as I have already done in the past with other issues. However, this should be tested within the same environment (Windows 7, English version of LO 4.1.4.2), otherwise the results might be different. did that, see comment 8. next time immediately upload a test document. It makes debugging easier and faster. Everything works fine at the beginning; things get slower and slower when you begin to edit it, save it, close it, edit it, save it, close it and so on for a few days. That makes me think there might be an issue with memory management: is all memory correctly released when the file is saved and closed? I don't know what exactly has been fixed in Bug 63433... but I can tell you that has nothing to do with memory allocation since in the 4.2.x menu you still cannot raise to limit above 256MB. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 73410] Wrong results from rounding functions for large argument
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73410 --- Comment #5 from Bastiaan Braams bjbra...@gmail.com --- Please don't reopen this bug... I would not dream of it. Let me only record a possible misunderstanding. My report is not about that Excel optimization by which near-cancellations are replaced by exact cancellations; I mentioned that optimization only peripherally because it affects the diagnostics. Instead, my report concerns the arithmetic of the Excel and LibreOffice Calc rounding functions, by which round to integer of an exactly representable (IEEE-754) integer may return a different integer. In a way it is the opposite of the mentioned optimization. It replaces exact equality (which would be the correct mathematical result) by only approximate equality. It is indeed a tiny error, only about 6 bits in the mantissa in the worst case. It is just barely large enough to exceed the 5 bits of error that would be masked by that Excel optimization. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
