[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 72955] EDITING: Allow editing bibliography entries from the bibliography

2014-01-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Owen Genat changed:

I am confirming this bug as it is essentially described in bug 61426, even
though that bug is reporting a different (more specific) issue about the Type
field. Status set to NEW. Version may need checking and this may be an
enhancement request (in which case version is fine).

Basically an entry in the bibliography database can only be edited via a
citation in the text:

1. Right-click on citation > Bibliography Entry...
2. Click Edit.
3. Make required change > click OK.
4. Click Modify.

(In reply to comment #0)
> Expected behavior:
> Allow an entry by Ctrl+Click on an entry in the bibliography. Similar to the
> way one can jump to an entry in a table of contents

I am not sure this would be possible as the relationship of bibliography index
to citation is one to many. It would probably be better to simply right-click
on the required bibliography table entry and have an option such as "Edit
Bibliography Entry..." or similar. This may not be possible either in an index,
in which case it may need to be "Edit Bibliography Database..."

Indeed. There is such a crop tool available in Draw and Impress but not in Calc
or Writer. It should be relatively easy to add it to Calc (but Writer is a
problem, luckily your request is not about Writer).

I have found a duplicate of this bug.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74046] VIEWING: Delay while scrolling through cells with coloured backround

2014-01-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74046

I made some tests today and I found that I have this delay if the coloured
cells have many different border styles in formatting.

If I make the border of the coloured cells the same at all of them, there is no
delay.

These files I have problem where first created with openoffice many years ago.

I tried to reproduce the problem to a new file with no success.

So propably something is wrong with the formatting at these old files.

Another thing I noticed during these tests is that if the border style is with
line of dots and not a straight line I have this delay in all versions.

Thanks again.

I do not think this is a bug. The standard break-out sequence ALT+ENTER can be
used to force a newline after any form of index, table, or section. Tested here
under v4.1.4.2 against a bibliography index at the end of a document and it
works as expected. I will leave it for JBF or the reporter to close this
report.

The bug of which this is a duplicate contains a workaround for this issue in
the description i.e., an alternate way of editing the type (Article, Book,
etc.) of an entry in the associated bibliographic database. This then allows
the detail in the related structure for the entry in the biblio table to be
displayed as expected.

Steps to reproduce:
1/ open the test document in Impress version 4.2.0.3
2/ select and copy the typographic quote at the end of the texte in
"L'apostrophe"
3/ move the cursor somewhere in the text

6/ hit search button , the hit replace button
7/ hit replace button until the end of the file

Crash has been reproduced on MS-Windows and Ubuntu (French QA mailing-list)
It seems that some other special characters trigger the crash.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74101] New: add NOPRINTROW and NOPRINTCOL functions

2014-01-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74101

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 74101
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: add NOPRINTROW and NOPRINTCOL functions
  Severity: enhancement
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: t...@timdeaton.org
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.0.6.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

I would like to urge you to add a NOPRINTROW and a NOPRINTCOL function to
LibreOffice Calc. I'll explain what I mean below, and include the details of
what I do now (in hopes that it helps). I've never seen what I do in print,
but because of how frequently I use it, I'd be very surprised if many others
didn't find such functions to be almost indispensible once they found them.

The first spreadsheet program I used (ancient shareware: ExpressCalc) had a
function called NOPRINT. I could put it in a cell by itself, or use it inside
another function (like IF(G15=0,NOPRINT,"")). Either way, if any cell in a
given row evaluated to "NOPRINT", then that row would not be printed when I
printed the spreadsheet.

This function was very handy whenever I wanted to build a re-usable table that
might allow for 100 rows of data entry & related calculations, but in which
not all rows are likely to be filled every time. For instance, I might have
an invoice sheet listing 30 different possible items, but I only want the 5
that happen to have quantities filled in to actually show up on the printout.

Unfortunately, I've never found a similar function in any other spreadsheet
program. However, in Excel97, I can achieve the same result using a couple of
macros, some predefined range names, and a "Print" button that runs the
macros. I define a convenient column with the range name "NOPRINT", the cell
that I want to appear (after printing) at the upper-left corner of the screen
as "PRESTART", and the cell that I want to be active when printing is finished
as "START". If there happen to be any columns I don't want printed, I define
them in a fourth range name called "COLNOPRINT". Finally, in the NOPRINT
column, I put the NA() function on each row that I never want printed, and I
use an IF() statement that evaluates to NA() unless the row should be printed.

Then, the macros basically do this:
1) Unprotect the sheet.
2) Go to the PRESTART and START cells to get to the view I want to return to.
3) Create a "TempView" view for later use.
4) Hide any columns included in a COLNOPRINT range.
5) Find all cells in the NOPRINT column that evaluate to NA(), and hide those
rows.
6) Print the sheet.
7) Return to the "TempView" view (to undo all the things hidden in this
process).
8) Delete the "TempView" (so it doesn't interfere with future use and other
sheets)
9) Protect the sheet.

The 'Visual Basic For Applications' macros are as follows:

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 53602] Copy value from cell above by one button click

2014-01-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53602

I just found out about the similar (but not quite the same) [ctrl]-[d] function
that Owen described, and it WILL be very helpful. But I agree that adding the
[ctrl]-["] function that's been in Excel at least since 1997 would be much more
intuitive for Excel users who know about it.

(I used Excel for a decade before discovering [ctrl]-["], but in the decade
since discovering it I've used it almost every day.)

The main difference between [ctrl]-[d] and Excel's [ctrl]-["] is that when
Excel's function copies the formula from the above cell, it does NOT adjust the
formula's relative reference.

IE:
If cell B1 contained the formula "=A1"
then, selecting cell B2 and then [ctrl]-[d] would enter "=A2" in cell B2
while selecting cell B2 and then Excel's [ctrl]-["] would enter "=A1" in cell
B2.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74099] New: Image cropping in Calc needs mouse tools

2014-01-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74099

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 74099
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Image cropping in Calc needs mouse tools
  Severity: enhancement
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: t...@timdeaton.org
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: Inherited From OOo
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

I have long found that when I need to print something from the computer screen,
the easiest way to do it was to hit PrintScreen, then paste it into an Excel
spreadsheet, then crop and resize it till I have what I want. For instance, I
frequently want to crop & overlay two Google Maps screenshots so they fit
together. Or save an entire year of cropped screenshots of payroll tax
confirmation screens on the same spreadsheet page. (For me, Excel does these
things far more easily than Word or Paint.)

For years I've occasionally tried the same thing using first OpenOffice Calc
3.x and now LibreOffice 4.0.x, and found that it is much more difficult. Calc
brings up a window with measurements you can change, and its own small snapshot
of the graphic that shows where you are moving the borders to. It works, but
it is hard to get it just right. You cannot see it well, and must repeatedly
invoke the tool, change the measurements, and quit the tool to see what you've
really got. It takes several iterations to get it where you want it.

Excel's cropping tool (at least as far back as Excel 97) allows the mouse to
grab the handles on the graphic's edges and drag them where you want them,
which is far easier both to see and to do.

PLEASE add a mouse tool that can be used directly on the image in the
spreadsheet. The cropping icon could still bring up the window (for those who
prefer it), and then a button in that window could replace the window with the
mouse tool.

Thanks,
Tim

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 44592] Alter heading options with "Restart Numbering"

2014-01-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Created attachment 92827

Example ODT showing different "before" separators for headings.

It is currently possible, via workaround, to obtain the difference in Before
separator proposed in this enhancement. This report probably needs the summary
to be amended for clarity i.e., allow different Before separating text for the
same outline level. I am not sure how possible this would be, or even if ODF
supports it, but that appears to be the general nature of this request.

In the attached example I have used outline numbering. Outline numbering only
allows ten levels. The workaround is to set the endpaper headings to a
different level to that of the headings in the main body.

In the example the "Heading 1" paragraph style is set (by default) to level 1
and the custom "Heading 1 appendix" paragraph style has been set to level 6. I
could have alternatively amended the provided "Heading 6" paragraph style. In
this manner level 1-5 can be used in the main body and levels 6-10 used in the
endpapers.

have also tried to use Openoffice, and that also crashes.

I am running Libraoffice 3.4.4 build 000340m1b422.

I will try to retrieve the error message and send it.

I have tried to install the new version and failed, will get local help and let
you know what happens.

Just to be sure there's no confusion. LibreOffice is a fork from OpenOffice
(which has become Apache OpenOffice now). So if you're talking about
LibreOffice, you're at the right place :-)

What LibreOffice version do you use? (the last stable one is 4.1.4 and can be
found here: http://www.libreoffice.org/download)

Would it be possible you retrieve the error message by following this link?

However...

Not huge deals, but I'll report the inconvenience below. Maybe an easy fix...
:-(

1) I've had to re-pin Writer and Calc to the task bar.

2) I have to re-populate those icons' jumplists to my frequently-accessed
files. I know they're available in File/Recent Documents, but that
functionality IS different. They do appear in the jumplists, so I can pin
them, after opening them from File/Recent.

Keep up the good work.

Summary edited for clarity as footnote numbering can be restarted on a per-page
and per-chapter basis, but not the method proposed. Note that this may become
more complicated if enhancement bug 55436 (request for traditional footnote
identifiers) ever gets implemented. The proposed "End at" field would need to
cater for these symbols (or be greyed out when using these types of
identifiers).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74097] New: Title field in Writer document properties not updated for new or changed filenames

2014-01-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74097

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 74097
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Title field in Writer document properties not updated
for new or changed filenames
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: t...@timdeaton.org
  Hardware: x86 (IA32)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: Inherited From OOo
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

I'm using LO v4.0.6.2 on Windows 7, but this issue has been around since I
first started using OpenOffice back in 2008.

When I start a new document using a template I created in Writer, the "Title"
field in the Description tab of the Document Properties is filled with the name
of the template file. When I first save that document as a new file, the
template filename stays in that "Title" field.

Then, if I save the document to a pdf file, the "Title" field of the .odt
file's properties is carried over into the .pdf file. The problem becomes
worse there, because the "Title" field of the .pdf file is then displayed in
the Title bar across the top of the .pdf window instead of the actual file
name. [This is true using Adobe Reader 9.5, Nuance PDF Converter Pro 7.2 (my
default), and Foxit Reader 6.0. (PDF Archetect 1.1 displays the actual
filename instead of the "Title".)]

This is what I think SHOULD happen:
A. The "Title" field of the file's properties should automatically
be updated to the new filename (including extension) if:
 1. The document is a new file, either started from scratch or
by choosing a template.
 2. An existing document is saved to a new filename and the
previous "Title" was:
  a. the same as the previous filename.
  b. the same (without the extension) as the previous
 filename.
B. In the case of existing documents with "Title" fields that are
already different from the filename, then saving the file to a
new filename should cause the Document Properties window to
open so the "Title" can be updated if the user wishes.

thanks for the video.
now I reproduce it on Win7 with 4.1.4 and many older LibO releases up to 3.3.3
(I have no earlier 3.3.x versions to test) and with AOO 4.0.0 as well.

anyway the issue seems due to the fact that those borders are a kind of
external frame superimposed over cells but it's not a real cell border.

try right clicking on it and you will see that that that frame can be moved
where you want.

so basically you were thinking of deleting cell with borders but infact you
were deleting cells without borders who had a "fake" border frame over them.

I mark this as RESOLVED NOTABUG

That being said - your description is very concise. Agreed it's a valid
request.

Marking as:
New
Enhancement
Medium - I don't see this benefiting a huge proportion of our user base (most
use our software for basic things) but as the comment points out, it could be
required for "higher end" tasks such as academic papers.

Also:
Might be an easy hack so adding that, I agree with the idea that there should
just be a check box that by default is unchecked but which can be unchecked and
it says something like "In-Line Heading" and can be applied to any style

Moving on just means waiting for someone to triage - it's an enhancement
request so honestly the priority on it is much lower. Right now the focus is on
triaging issues for the upcoming 4.2 release.

If you have time to help QA team with some triage work - the more people we
have on board, the faster we can deal with these kinds of enhancement requests
(at least triaging them, getting a developer to volunteer to do it is a whole
different challenge).

danger of big disaster. That's why I increase the classification to critical (I
tend to feel it as blocker, but)
2. In combination with "always create backup copy" which makes the user fell
even more secure actually does opposite. Every manually save means loose the
previous backup.
3. In combination with strange autorecovery behaviour, when after autorecovery
the user get even older version, than the last manually saved makes LO almost
unusable for serious work. (I'm not sure, if this is a separate bug or not - if
yes, I can create it)

>From my point of view, the autorecovery function in broader point of view or
"user work securing functionality" should be change/fix as complex. The user
should be at least before agreeing with autorecovery, provided with information
what is he/she doing, i.e. what autorecovery and backup (at least here should
be a link to backup file) is here at disposal. Otherwise the user multiply the
range of disaster.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 54157] LibreOffice 4.0 most annoying bugs

2014-01-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54157

Added Bug 62176 - FORMATTING: Negative indents in styles not saved properly.
This regression bug makes Impress in 4.0 and later unusable for any
presentations built with a negative ident style. I and other users affected by
this bug are forced to remain with the 3.6.x series to be able to use Impress
(which I do every single day for work), and it's a pain to recreate the styles
if the file is accidentally opened and saved with a later version.

Tested with MP4 video here. Strange behavior: after inserting the video via
menu Insert > Movie and Sound I get a grey box with a light-grey questionmark
in it.

If I then hit "play" on the bottom left movie control section, the box turns
white and I hear the sound but do not see any video.

I'd like to nominate this bug to be added to MAB 4.2 since having working video
support in a presentation software is essential.

Setting to NEW since it's very reproducible.

OMG I am really don't understand how absence of some fonts broke drawing lines,
but installing Microsoft TrueType Fonts really helps fully solve this issue.

msttcorefonts package not included in fedora and must builded manually:

Could there be another way to solve the problem?

thanks for comment. I have solved this extremely sticky problem by deleting my

folder for the hidden file before and I am sure I have tried to delete the lock
file, but this did not remove the problem. I also tried to save the file under
a different name and delete to original and its lock. This did not help!

"Outline" is the character style, not a outline level and it works.

"Individual Words" is the check box, that is enabled, when you use the
character format "underline" or "strike through". If it is checked, search will
find that parts. The help text is not precise enough.

The other paragraph properties like "hyphenation", or "orphan" work, but not
"Page Style". Setting to confirm for attribute "Page Style".

I'm not sure I am the right person to answer. Having made the suggestion,
which I still believe in, I am unlikely to change my mind.

Surely it is up to the designers to evaluate requests like this and decide if
they want to do it? It would be closed as "this is a stupid idea", or "Yeah,
let's do that".

As it happens, I don't think the sidebar is enough. The styles dialogue, for
example, has always docked to the side of a window, but that does not mean the
menus are not taking up precious vertical space.

So here is an interesting twist. The TB's have been down, but noticed
Chrisitian's TB 47 build of master was posted. So downloaded it and the en-US
help and did an /A administrative install.

On Windows 7 sp1, 64-bit with NVDA 2013.2 running for AT

Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: 04c3d13ed942e6fc9feb78535701d48e5034d9e2
TinderBox: Win-x86@47-TDF, Branch:MASTER, Time: 2014-01-26_00:10:53

Runs without issue with out AT active. But as soon as I activate AT and
relaunch, I get a crash on activity to launch a module -- Writer in this case

Attach soffice.bin process to WinDbg, and get a series of first chance
exceptions. Symbols are a residual from TB 39 or 4.2.0.3, but some hits.
Seem to all be MSVCR100!_CxxThrowException

Have to navigate through a couple of dozen first chance exceptions before I can
get the debugger to run on the writer session. Even then doesn't seem to be a
specific action that will crash the writer session. Don't know if I'm cycling
from WinDbg for long enough.

Point is, that the issue is no longer confined to the 4.2.0.3 RC, but is also
appearing on Christian's TB 47 system build.

I'm not going to comment too much more on this but let me just correct one
thing. Fixing this will likely take days or weeks of dev time not the 30-45
minutes that was stated. If you're not a develop working on our code you can't
possibly know how much time something takes to fix so throwing out numbers is
just another good way to not make friends in the community.

Please feel free to build LibreOffice as Julien has provided a link and we have
an IRC chat where we can also help. I have almost no CS background and I build
based on those instructions.

Also if you're running Linux these are good instructions:

Document with gallery image inserted, showing frame in header and reversed
colours

If you create a simple document in Writer and add an image (including from
Gallery, next time the document is opened there are Frames added either in
Header or in Left Marging. They extend down the document to the top of the 1st
image, if deleted they track down to the next image.

THis does happen in current release but now on 4.2 RC3, the colour of the
images are reveresed also.

Once reopened Document appears to respond very sluggishly.

One of the finest examples of how to fix(!) one thing which ain't broke.

Aside from the fact that white toolbar background is already a no-no from the
OOo era, the situation could be easily improved with small distinguishing
elements like borders and stuff. Anyway, I am tired of this stuff already, it
is just a regression which could easily be fixed by a simple revert of patch,
but if contributing people do not care about the regressions caused by their
patches, or do not even take the 2 minutes to test them (which is the common
case in most LO regressions as far as I can see) why would other people care?

For example there is this Bug 73051, even number 10 is not fitting inside the
box, let alone most font names, what is the logic behind breaking this? Another
thing, styles dropdown even do not house any translations other than English,
because someone made the styles dropdown thinner, or did not take the time to
make it resizable, which would be the logical course of action if thought with
good UX in mind. So as far as I can tell, LibreOffice became a playground on
which some people play, but do not either think about the consequences of their
patches, do not test them, or mostly forget that this software is used by
millions of people.

I really do not understand, there is no review mechanism especially for these
type of patches. People just submit stuff, result is more and more UI
regressions with each release, people saying "This thing looks shitty", and
cringing QA people. Very nice.

Really, I beg, please, if it ain't broke do not fix it.

Please.

Just my 2 cents.
