In LO 3 (and apparently also versions up to 4.1.4) when selecting columns with
the keyboard, hidden columns were selected and deselected as if they were
visible. In 4.2.0.4 they are apparently ignored.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a spreadsheet with three columns A, B and C
2. Hide column B
3. Click in cell C1 and press shift+left to select columns

Current behavior:
Selection becomes A1:C1

Expected behavior:
Selection becomes B1:C1

This also happens when selecting from column A. I have not tested with hiddfen
rows.

Hi. Deeper analysis under LibO 4.2.0.4: I correct my comment 4.
- all offending texts (in red, bottom of pages) are frames, anchored to the
cells of a table itself within a frame ; I now see the correspondance between
the 19 frames in the navigator and in the text (18 cells + the table itself),
- I now manage to set background (transparency was 100%!) and captions
- It remains the wrong positions; you know when it appears first (at the first
opening under libO?), I don't; As is the attachment, I understand now that this
file is not technically corrupted.

If the attachment comes from a Save from LibO (with wrong placement), it is
normal to see the same misplacements when opening under Word 97.

Please give us more information (mainly the last file with correct placement),
so that we can try to reproduce the misplacement event, not only its result.

Thanks

This is a regression introduced by 13a34f4c6307d1bd2443cbf3fbd83bfdd8cdbafb
to fix #69002.

Currently I don't know how to fix it.

I might need to implement something like
1c7d90a8f9a38b166168468bed60405ef6e26493 for clipboard polling - somehow.

Without 13a34f4c6307d1bd2443cbf3fbd83bfdd8cdbafb I get - again - crashes with
KDE4 file dialogs - mmpf.

I actually wanted to implement a correct fix, but got no reply to
https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-34614.
13a34f4c6307d1bd2443cbf3fbd83bfdd8cdbafb is actually more of a workaround then
a real fix.

I hope to find a solution today but unfortunately I won't be able to look into
this problem next week.

Hi Italo,

I think I fail to reproduce, tested using Mac OSX 10.9 with LibreOffice
4.2.0.4.

Behavior:
* ODT: big image showing in header on the first page, and that logo/circle in
the header showing on _BOTH_ pages. So it's on the first page too.
* DOC: correct behavior, same as your PDF.

Kind regards,
Joren

Deleted the user profile and tried again: same result.

Note: I'm using Mac OS X 10.9.

Then CHANGED the CHARSET in the CSV-import form Unicode (UTF-8) to
Westeuropa (ISO-8859-1) == Sorting works.

Then tested the same with V4.2.0.4 on WINDOWS XP(en):
+ When imported with charset Unicode (UTF-8) == Sorting hangs
+ When imported with charset Westeuropa (ISO-8859-1) == Sorting works

So, there seems to be a problem with certain cell content when importing UTF-8.

Hint: UTF-8 is default on Mac, while ISO-8859-1 is default on Windows.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73674

--- Comment #15 from Dominique Boutry dominique.bout...@laposte.net ---
I can't manage to exhibit a mouse click by mouse click on how to reproduce
the problem, because the bulletnumbering/Outline tab is incoherent:
- once the dialog box is opened, this tab is immutable, it acts as a palet;
however, it isn't populated the same way at each opening of the dialog box; it
doesn't seem to depend on the selection at this time, I can't figure what it
depends on ; it looks ERRATIC,
- more severe, as a palet (like Bullets, Numbering type and Image tabs)
it is supposed to populate the ten positions manageable in the Position and
Options tabs (explicitely for the five first; the five last being logically
the fifth whis growing indentation); however it is not always the case. Here
too I can't figure what it depends on ; it looks ERRATIC.

Once the behaviour of this tab will be fixed, I propose you to have a glance at
the monograph I wrote on this subject, at
http://www.odfauthors.org/libreoffice/english/how-tos-tutorials/monograph-1-en-lists-and-titles/view;.

To make a wall brilliant, it is not sufficient to repaint it again and again,
one sometimes need to scour it. I'm a little bit angry, it will blow over...

Importing as UTF-8 the issue is also in Windows, so seems a bug is there.

I have found the problem start with cell J2188, and you don't need to sort, try
deleting the cell and LibreOffice hangs, below is the row in the CSV file:

F130RB01FG,F130RB01FG,BOOL,100217,,6,5.0,3,El.Verrieg., Freigabe
RB01 von F130 an F120,Meldeleuchten_BK50, Meldeleuchten_BK51, Rangierung

There are strange characters at the begin of the second reference, and seems
that lines with them have the problem.

More testing

Saved the test1 file in LO4.1.4 as .ods format

Then opened test1.ods in LO4.2 - made small change - saved - reopened = all OK

the saved test1.ods in .xls format and reopened it - corruption occurred

so a possible work-around for me is to convert my files to .ods format and stop
using .xls format in LO4.2

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 65462] Improve use of character styles

This is indeed a step in a good direction for me, but it still requires a
sidebar which takes up lots of space.

This is probably not the bug report for this issue (about improving character
styles).

What I suggest here is to duplicate for character styles the toolbar item
which allows to apply paragraph styles. I would like to be able to remove
all toolbar buttons for local character formatting (bold, underline, text
color...) and just have a combobox for paragraph styles and one for
 character styles.

Toolbars do not provide access to styles (and never have). They offer direct
(non-style) formatting for elements in a document. The design team are talking
about possibly having parts of the sidebar detach in a launch/retrieve manner
(presumably to a toolbar / micro-panel like arrangement. The result (as I
understand it) will be the combining of the sidebar and toolbar into a single
functionality. This may be what you are (generally) referring to? The
discussion can be found here:

Internal file listing of MSO.pptx, LO.pptx and LO.odp

I received a presentation save in .pptx format by MS Office 2010:
1,4M Feb 7 11:28 mo_save_as_pptx.pptx

I opened it in Impress and then saved it as a .pptx file without making any
changes. The resulting file is more than four times as large:
6,5M Feb 7 12:11 lo_save_as_pptx.pptx

Saving the same file as a .odp file without making any changes results in a
file that is four times smaller than the original.
368K Feb 7 14:15 lo_save_as_odp.odp

So it seems that Libre Office can import the .pptx file correctly but can not
write it out correctly as a .pptx i.e. writing to .odp seems fine.

Examining the resulting files reveals that when Impress writes out a .pptx file
many of the images are copies of the images used in the presentation (logos,
backgrounds, etc).

Please see the attached archive for the file-listing of each of the three files
i.e. MS Office .pptx, LibreOffice .pptx and LibreOffice .odp.

This is indeed a step in a good direction for me, but it still requires a
sidebar which takes up lots of space.

This is probably not the bug report for this issue (about improving
 character styles).

The title may not be the best: character styles are great in libreoffice, the
issue is about improving the way handle them.

It's just not true: the toolbar always included a combobox for paragraph
styles, which I use a lot.

The very point of this report for me is to point out that a way to quickly
apply character styles without keeping a huge sidebar open is missing.

 The design team are
talking about possibly having parts of the sidebar detach in a
 launch/retrieve manner (presumably to a toolbar / micro-panel like
arrangement. The result (as I understand it) will be the combining of the
sidebar and toolbar into a single functionality. This may be what you are
(generally) referring to? The discussion can be found here:

 http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/The-Sidebar-Problem-td4094331.html

It looks like an interesting direction, and maybe one that could solve this
issue if implemented properly, but I'm affraid it is a better solution to EDIT
styles that to simply apply them (many publications, technical reports and so
on have strict rules about how to format this or that kind of text, some even
provide templates with pre-defined styles for this kind of things.
Unfortunately, most text processors make it much harder to apply styles than to
use manual formatting (unless you typeset in LaTeX or HTML+CSS!). LibreOffice
can (and IMHO should) change this.

 @Cor: isn't this bug a dupe of Bug 70692 ?
Looks like you have to click twice in some situations, before continuing.

Well, it does give the pop-up, asking for confirmation...
But definitely, the code lost it's way to the right view ;)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 68123] Other: Bibliography examples misleading hard to use

2014-02-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68123

--- Comment #6 from Owen Genat owen.ge...@gmail.com ---
(In reply to comment #5)
That was not really what I meant. :) I thought that the short name could
already reflect the citation style -- there is absolutely no need to expose
a running number in the UI. So, if the short name is only used for a running
number... we don't want the user to ever see it.

I would not want to see an integer identifier exposed to the user either.
Rather I was thinking of making the Identifier database field, exactly that,
an integer identifier and hiding it from the user. As Bruce indicated,
labelling this field as Short Name on the form is unhelpful. The purpose of
this field appears to be that of a primary key associating the in-text citation
with the bibliography index entry. This works fine for sequence-type citation
systems (e.g., Vancouver), but is no good for author-date systems (e.g., APA,
Chicago), where the in-text citation needs to be (Author, 1987). This
citation information cannot (and should not) be used in the index. Sorry I
wasn't clear about this.

What I was proposing was to have some sort of pattern language that would
automatically create references in the correct style as the short name. I.e.
you would set the correct format once for the in-text citations and once for
the citations page and LibreOffice would mangle your data to do the right
 thing.

Overall, I think we are in agreement. It really just comes down to how:

(a) the citation format and bibliography (index) entry format is calculated;
(b) performance issues with doing this calculation, as it is not stored
information.

The main concern I would have is performance in relation to a large
bibliography, for example changing all reference-related entries from APA to
Vancouver style. Each and every citation and bibliography entry needs to be
redone. I imagine Word does it though, so it is likely possible.

That does not help me. I don't know this Word feature.

It is just a pull down list to select the style manual (APA, Chicago, etc.) to
be used in calculating the format for the citations and bibliography entries.
This is the main determining factor of how both in-text citations and
bibliography entries appear and equates to your statement of you would set the
correct format. Note however that there is only /one/ format, not one for the
citations and one for the bibliography. This is the big red switch, so to
speak.

2014-02-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74680

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 74680
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Calc object embedded in Impress does not update
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: justin.bar...@tema.toyota.com
  Hardware: ARM
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.0.4 release
 Component: Presentation
   Product: LibreOffice

When a Calc spreadsheet range is copied into Impress, the formulas do not
update even after the presentation is closed and re-opened.

This should at least be an option since it would add very little overhead.

(In reply to comment #6)
As is self explanatory in the bug title just open the testcase in the
referenced word version and you'll see the problem

Please describe it as file going mad is not self explanatory. Bugzilla has
search interface to check comments content, so bugs have to be described. Your
problems could be duplicates of other well known issues. Also what one see
using own system/build could not be the same what the reporter see using
different system/build.

OK, I found it. I also would prefer styles, to allow to adjust texts globally
in a set of forms. Not only for fields, but also for drawing. Concerned styles:
- whole character style (perhaps without Backgroud and Borders)
- IndentSpacing and Alignment tabs from a paragraph style (only these ones ;
no outlinenumbering, Tabs, DropCaps, Text Flow because too sophisticated for a
form/drawing; no Borders and Backgroud because managed by the form/drawing),
- no List styles please please...

Enhancement.
