[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77301] New: 4.2.3 Release stops editing

2014-04-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77301

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 77301
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
   Summary: 4.2.3 Release stops editing
  Severity: major
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Mac OS X (All)
  Reporter: petershar...@pastoralsystems.co.nz
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Installed release 4.2.3 today and three times during the day's work editing in
Writer suddenly stopped. That is, one could no longer edit a document. Exiting
LO and re-loading the document enabled editing.

This hadn't happened with 4.2.3 RCs 2 and 3.

I eventually reverted to 4.2.3 RC 3 and the fault hasn't happened.

Thank you for LibreOffice.

Regards

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 75376] Documents with fields have weird characters

2014-04-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75376

--- Comment #26 from V Stuart Foote vstuart.fo...@utsa.edu ---
On Windows 7 sp1, 64-bit

For testing Michael S's patches, kind of need for Cloph's TB-47 to spin up a
build of 4.2.4 branch in release configuration using MSVC 2010.

Working with master and MSVC 2010 from Cloph's TB-47 build from the 9th,
Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: 20fb1bfc72e626251b435bcff2339e1e425c7130
TinderBox: Win-x86@47-TDF, Branch:MASTER, Time: 2014-04-09_12:09:54
the malformed field shading exists, and can still be worked around with
CTRL+F8 to turn off field shading.

And now Cloph's TB-47 build from the 10th is rendering field shading correctly
with the
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=0d8e3a145901ab0124d40d33a50e2de28dc0c8ab
patch in place.
Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: 83c888bdb0a6c9795cebfc53fa74d6da8bb692b2
TinderBox: Win-x86@47-TDF, Branch:MASTER, Time: 2014-04-10_20:33:35

Issue as described was present in the RC3 and is in the Final release for 4.2.3
built with MSVC 2010. I have not seen it in TB-42 builds of 4.2 that use MSVC
2012. Re-verified that against a couple of recent TB-42 builds.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77303] New: LibreOffice starts frozen when creating untitled document from commandline

Bug ID: 77303

  Reporter: m...@nightrealms.com
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: NEW
   Version: 4.2.3.2 rc
 Component: Libreoffice
   Product: LibreOffice

If I try to create a new, untitled writer document or web document from the
command line with libreoffice --writer or libreoffice --web the splash
screen works fine, and the window menu bar and window decorations come up, but
nothing else does, and it gets frozen that way. Editing an existing file works
just fine, as does simply doing libreoffice and using the mouse to select a
document type (though using libreoffice and trying to use a keyboard shortcut
causes the document chooser UI to freeze up).

I'm using Fedora 20.

Slight correction: when using libreoffice in the command line to get the
document selector, the UI always completely draws, but sometimes it starts out
frozen, while sometimes it doesn't start out frozen and can become frozen if a
keyboard shortcut is used.

--- Comment #4 from Jean-Baptiste Faure jbf.fa...@sud-ouest.org ---
Hi Daniel,

Are you serious ?

I totally disagree with your three statements:
1/ why punish the users who prefer to use the buttons instead of the right
click menu?
2/ I do not see where is the difference between toolbar and right click menu
here. How the use of the right click menu make the things better?
3/ The point of the toolbar is to make certain actions quicker (and possibly
more accessible): from my point-of-view, the main role of a toolbar is to make
visible the most important functions of the software, even if you do not search
them. To use the right-click menu, you need to know or to hope that the
function exists and that you could find it here. When you have a toolbar in
front of you with standard icons, you see the function.

If I consider my own practice, I can say that I do differently when I use a
mouse and when I use a touchpad. With the mouse, I use the right click menu,
and with the touchpad I use the toolbar or the shortcuts because I find the
touchpad less precise when selecting a submenu. With the button I am sure to
click the right function. You should take that in account.

Best regards. JBF

Indeed. This is one of those cases where it’s better to agree to disagree.

For instance, I can’t think of any good reason why having those buttons there

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77314] New: Problems with LibreOffice Writer

2014-04-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77314

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 77314
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
   Summary: Problems with LibreOffice Writer
  Severity: major
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: wordsmy...@gmail.com
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

I had no problems with Libre Office 3.00 - which I can no longer download - but
am plagued with them in LO4. When I set to VIEW my page to PAGE WIDTH, it does
not keep this format when I save but reverts to default: maddening! And
consecutive page numbering is useless: writing book chapters, I save my file
with correct numbers intact, but when I next load it the page numbers begin
with `1 and continue in this fashion. Until this bug is fixed, I'm
re-installing Ubuntu 12.04 which has LO 3 and which works PERFECTLY. Smarten
up, LibreOffice: 4 is NOT user friendly.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77317] New: EDITING: ' prepended when applying Number or Scientific format to Text formatted cell with a number in it

in it
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: mich...@doube.net
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.5.7.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

This is a simple bug in Calc which can be replicated by doing the following:

1. Set a cell format to Text
2. enter a numerical value into the cell (e.g. 1 or 1E1)
3. Set the cell format to Number or Scientific
4. Note that the cell data is left justified and has a ' prepended to it in the
input line, which is not visible in the cell itself

This means that the cell value still interpreted as text and not as a number,
so it's impossible to plot it in a chart or do arithmetic with it.

I hit this the first time when copying some data from a website into Calc. The
numerical values were not recognised and were automatially pasted into Text
formatted cells (OK, that's understandable). BUT: changing the values to Number
or Scientific format didn't change the underlying datatype of the cell from
characters to numbers.

I imported a big CSV file (12 columns ~36000 lines)

I want to create conditional formatting rules for the whole range of cells. So
I select it using the left upper corner.

The I choose Format-Conditional Formatting-Condition... and then the UI
takes ages to show up.

I think I know why : the text content of all the selected cells in the range is
concatenated to create the example text.

Workaround : select only one cell before showing the conditional formatting
dialog and change the range manually using the control at the bottom.

When making a chart with constant value error bars, the error bars can only be
of integer length. Decimal values are rounded to the nearest integer when
entered. It should be possible to use decimal values.

To reproduce this bug:
1. Make a chart
2. Insert-X Error Bars... (or Y Error Bars...)
3. Click 'Constant Value' for Error Category
4. Under Parameters and Positive, type '0.5'.
5. Try to enter a value for Negative.
6. The Positive value should now have changed to '1'

That's not a bug. Applying a cell format never changes the cell content. The '
apostrophe in the input line is prepended so that when editing the content it
stays text. Removing the ' will accept the input as number then. You can bulk
change multiple cells by selecting them, apply a number format and then invoke
FindReplace Search: ^. Replace: $0 and in options check regular
expression and selection only. Or use the Convert-Text-To-Number extension from
http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/ct2n-convert-text-to-number-and-dates

For the record I'd like to note that this is a bizarre, unintuitive intended
behaviour, and the fix you propose is equally bizarre and unintuitive. Having
to install an extension seems way over the top for what should be a core
functionality (I guess at some point someone was so desperate to do this that
they resorted to coding the extension!).

I first attempted a find-replace for ' - [empty], which didn't work. Your
regex example will be totally opaque to nearly all users.

The answer to the pasting some data from a website problem is to Paste
Special... get the delimiters right and make sure to check the box to detect
special numbers (my data are here:
http://physics.nist.gov/PhysRefData/XrayMassCoef/ComTab/pyrex.html ).

The goal is to know if it's dependant of using PowerBuilder OleObjects.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77261] Cut / Copy / Paste buttons clutter the standard toolbar while encouraging poor practices

2014-04-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77261

--- Comment #8 from Daniel Hulse simplecontr...@gmail.com ---
Heiko the data in the link you attached is interesting, but I'm not sure it
really contradicts what I'm saying. 2.5%, 4.1%, and 0.6% are the percentage of
clicks for each, which I'm willing to bet it's a low proportion compared to the
the total amount cutting and pasting as a whole. Furthermore, while these
functions in the MS Office ribbon, I think it's of note that they aren't in the
toolbars of Apple Pages or Google Docs. I agree that the whole of the standard
toolbar needs to be reevaluated.

JBF this isn't punishment. If having these entries in the toolbar is critical
for your work-flow, you can re-enable them. In addition, your problem with
using touchpads would be totally avoided through keyboard shortcuts. From my
point-of-view, the main role of a toolbar is to make visible the most important
functions of the software is a very simplistic take on ux-visual hierarchy. If
that's the role of the toolbar, then why don't we let users edit text straight
from the toolbar? I'll tell you why: because the page is a much, much more
appropriate place to edit text from. The same logic applies to an extent to
cutting and pasting.

Cut and Paste functions are given a prominent place in the right-click menu.
It's pretty much a universal thing across operating systems that the
right-click menu has cut and paste functionality. No user is going to be
wondering if the cut or paste buttons are in a right click menu--they're always
there. In fact, using right-click menus is central to cutting and pasting
everywhere else: File managers, web browsers, image editors, and most other
kinds of software keep cut and paste functionality prominently in the right
click menu. In addition, it's always in the EDIT menu and has some fairly
easy-to-remember keyboard shortcuts. So adding a toolbar entry to make the
functionality even more prominent is unnecessary and contrived.

Note that this change would be in alignment with ux-minimalism.

On which env are you? (Windows, Linux, MacOs, other?) and which version?
Did you install any LO specific extensions?
Did you install any specific fonts? (i mean which are not out of the box on

For the test, could you rename your LO directory profile (see

Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.3.3 rc
 Component: UI
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description: Floating tool windows obscure document, cannot be docked.

Steps to reproduce: Open sidebar, style window, and navigator

Current behavior: Sidebar is dockable. Style and navigator windows are not.

I like to work with the navigator, style window, and formatting sidebar all
visible at once. These are key tools. The navigator cannot be reshaped below a
certain width. It can be place on top of the sidebar. Or it can float below a
floating style window. However, at minimum width, these obscure the document
being worked on.

Expected behavior:
I'd like to see formatting information, styles, and navigator all at once, and
ideally as sidebar(s). Word 2013, for example, handles the styles and navigator
as sidebars. Ideally, the three items could be stacked in a single sidebar
pane, or I could have one sidebar on each side, each with one or two of the
tools. Adding a single style control to the formatting sidebar would resolve
one of these.

Best case - all tool windows are dockable, resizable, and stackable (meaning
they could be part of a single docked vertical column, with the height of each
element configureable).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77325] New: Selective reset of style attributes

Why defining a style based on (linked to) another style, you cannot easily
revert one modified attribute to the inherited (copied) one (once you pressed
OK). If you changed an attribute by mistake, you can only reset the complete
style (which is not very efficient and satisfying).
Therefore I suggest a dialog that pops up when you reset a style that lists
all modifies attributes (relative to the linked style) with a checkbox. If
checked that attribute is reset to the inherited value; if unchecked, it
remains.
That seems to be an easy to understand solution for the problem.

  Reporter: computergeoff...@zoho.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: Inherited From OOo
 Component: Libreoffice
   Product: LibreOffice

This bug is especially valid in a table, where tab just goes to the next cell.
You don't expect to change the first letter to capital when you just jump to
the next cell in the table.

To reproduce:
1) Make a table
2) Type one word in the first cell with small capitals
3) Press tab to go to the next cell

Result: the first letter of the first word is capitalized, which shouldn't be
since you're just jumping to the next table cell.

Please change this, this is not logical. This does not occur in Calc, but it
does in Writer and has to some degree influence in Impress, where tab just
works as content tab (in the title textbox in the dia designer).

I'm working on a rather large file (100 pages) with a lot of footnotes ( 100
per chapter, 6 chapters).
ODT format.
Cross references to footnotes are all wrong, both page numbers and footnote
number.
If I enter a cross reference (e.g. see footnote n. 23, at page 40), it then
outputs a reference to some other footnote and page (e.g. see footnote n. 2,
at page 5). Usually it refers to low numbers, like in the example.

Unfortunately I can not provide the file as an example, but I think the problem
can be easily replicated since it shows in all computer I have worked with,
since at least v. 4.1 of LO.

In the file there are also Zotero references.

For a research paper like mine this makes LO unusable, so please do something
about it asap!

Ok, here are some knew points I found out:

1) tried out 4.2.2 at another computer - works!

2) the windows profile LibreOffice settings have something to do with the
problem: after deleting (German Windows XP) c:\dokumente und
einstellungen\login\Anwendungsdaten\LibreOffice\ completly, the calculation
works!

As result, this was a problem of not working LibreOffice settings from previous
versions. I dont think, that I changed settings after upgrading to 4.2.2., so
may be others who used their old settings can habe some behaviour. Good to know
that cleaning the settings helps. Thanks for your answers.

Does the feedback from Cor resolve your issue?

No, the feedback does not resolve the issue.

Users (that is: multiple users in different departments) that have moved from a
popular proprietary office suit to LibreOffice try to close the Print Preview
view by clicking the window chrome X, despite having been shown the Close Print
Preview button. I suspect that their previous office suite taught them this
behaviour, however I have no way to check. In any case, LibreOffice is behaving
contrary to user expectations, leading to frustration and another straw on the
LibreOffice-is-hard-to-use camel's back. We should be working to reduce those
straws whenever they are encountered.

I don’t find it wrong to have duplicate commands in different parts of a

Note that this change would be in alignment with ux-minimalism.

From Menu/Insert/Link to external data.
Link to any html url in the web.
Set up the update every time.

Or edit the link in my sample file from Menu/Edit/Links

Saving with 4.1 works fine preserving the update value.
Saving with 4.2 change the update value.

--- Comment #4 from Ulrich Windl ulrich.wi...@rz.uni-regensburg.de ---
(Just a second before I submitted my bug report, I found this one (I'm also
confirming the bug (for Windows/32 and German language settings (if it
matters)):

While reading the Writer documentation, I tried out things I read: list styles

I wrote some text, defined a list paragraph style (actually modified three
predefined styles), assigned a list style to it and pressed OK.
As I was not satisfied with the initial result, I started to modify the
assigned list style in the stylist. However the changes in list style were not
propagated correctly to all paragraphs using that list style. For some
paragraphs I could fix it by assigning the same paragraph style again, while
for other paragraphs I had to assign a different paragraph format first, just
to return to the original format. Maybe that#s the reason why list styles are
used so rarely...

Please apologize if this is not the same issue!

Screenshot of problem

Hi,

I am using a master document with about 100 subdocuments. Most of them just one
page or less. At the point that the master document became about 60 (maybe not
relevant) pages a part of a discus showed up in front of the text and behind
the pictures. In every zoom level it has the same shape hiding a number of
pages relative to the zoom level.
The appearing of the discus happens after some time and it is possible to
remove the discus with 'View Hidden Alinea's', but after a while it will
reappear.

The discus shows up in a print and also a pdf.

I have attached a screen shot of the problem.

I'm working with LibreOffice Writer Version 4.2.2.1. and I upgraded in between
to 4.2.3.3. Language: Dutch. Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium.
Language: Dutch

I hope somebody can help me

Regards,

Ton Meek
