[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77301] New: 4.2.3 Release stops editing
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77301 Priority: medium Bug ID: 77301 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: 4.2.3 Release stops editing Severity: major Classification: Unclassified OS: Mac OS X (All) Reporter: petershar...@pastoralsystems.co.nz Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) Status: UNCONFIRMED Version: unspecified Component: Writer Product: LibreOffice Installed release 4.2.3 today and three times during the day's work editing in Writer suddenly stopped. That is, one could no longer edit a document. Exiting LO and re-loading the document enabled editing. This hadn't happened with 4.2.3 RCs 2 and 3. I eventually reverted to 4.2.3 RC 3 and the fault hasn't happened. Thank you for LibreOffice. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75376 --- Comment #26 from V Stuart Foote vstuart.fo...@utsa.edu --- On Windows 7 sp1, 64-bit For testing Michael S's patches, kind of need for Cloph's TB-47 to spin up a build of 4.2.4 branch in release configuration using MSVC 2010. Working with master and MSVC 2010 from Cloph's TB-47 build from the 9th, Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 20fb1bfc72e626251b435bcff2339e1e425c7130 TinderBox: Win-x86@47-TDF, Branch:MASTER, Time: 2014-04-09_12:09:54 the malformed field shading exists, and can still be worked around with CTRL+F8 to turn off field shading. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77261] Cut / Copy / Paste buttons clutter the standard toolbar while encouraging poor practices
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77261 Jean-Baptiste Faure jbf.fa...@sud-ouest.org changed: What|Removed |Added CC||jbf.fa...@sud-ouest.org --- Comment #4 from Jean-Baptiste Faure jbf.fa...@sud-ouest.org --- Hi Daniel, Are you serious ? I totally disagree with your three statements: 1/ why punish the users who prefer to use the buttons instead of the right click menu? 2/ I do not see where is the difference between toolbar and right click menu here. How the use of the right click menu make the things better? 3/ The point of the toolbar is to make certain actions quicker (and possibly more accessible): from my point-of-view, the main role of a toolbar is to make visible the most important functions of the software, even if you do not search them. To use the right-click menu, you need to know or to hope that the function exists and that you could find it here. When you have a toolbar in front of you with standard icons, you see the function. If I consider my own practice, I can say that I do differently when I use a mouse and when I use a touchpad. With the mouse, I use the right click menu, and with the touchpad I use the toolbar or the shortcuts because I find the touchpad less precise when selecting a submenu. With the button I am sure to click the right function. You should take that in account. Best regards. Set a cell format to Text 2. enter a numerical value into the cell (e.g. 1 or 1E1) 3. Set the cell format to Number or Scientific 4. Note that the cell data is left justified and has a ' prepended to it in the input line, which is not visible in the cell itself This means that the cell value still interpreted as text and not as a number, so it's impossible to plot it in a chart or do arithmetic with it. I hit this the first time when copying some data from a website into Calc. The numerical values were not recognised and were automatially pasted into Text formatted cells (OK, that's understandable). [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77261] Cut / Copy / Paste buttons clutter the standard toolbar while encouraging poor practices
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77261 --- Comment #8 from Daniel Hulse simplecontr...@gmail.com --- Heiko the data in the link you attached is interesting, but I'm not sure it really contradicts what I'm saying. 2.5%, 4.1%, and 0.6% are the percentage of clicks for each, which I'm willing to bet it's a low proportion compared to the the total amount cutting and pasting as a whole. Furthermore, while these functions in the MS Office ribbon, I think it's of note that they aren't in the toolbars of Apple Pages or Google Docs. I agree that the whole of the standard toolbar needs to be reevaluated. JBF this isn't punishment. If having these entries in the toolbar is critical for your work-flow, you can re-enable them. In addition, your problem with using touchpads would be totally avoided through keyboard shortcuts. From my point-of-view, the main role of a toolbar is to make visible the most important functions of the software is a very simplistic take on ux-visual hierarchy. If that's the role of the toolbar, then why don't we let users edit text straight from the toolbar? I'll tell you why: because the page is a much, much more appropriate place to edit text from. The same logic applies to an extent to cutting and pasting. Cut and Paste functions are given a prominent place in the right-click menu. It's pretty much a universal thing across operating systems that the right-click menu has cut and paste functionality. No user is going to be wondering if the cut or paste buttons are in a right click menu--they're always there. In fact, using right-click menus is central to cutting and pasting everywhere else: File managers, web browsers, image editors, and most other kinds of software keep cut and paste functionality prominently in the right click menu. In addition, it's always in the EDIT menu and has some fairly easy-to-remember keyboard shortcuts. So adding a toolbar entry to make the functionality even more prominent is unnecessary and contrived. Note that this change would be in alignment with ux-minimalism. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

Steps to reproduce: Open sidebar, style window, and navigator Current behavior: Sidebar is dockable. Style and navigator windows are not. I like to work with the navigator, style window, and formatting sidebar all visible at once. These are key tools. The navigator cannot be reshaped below a certain width. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77325 Priority: medium Bug ID: 77325 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: Selective reset of style attributes Severity: enhancement Classification: Unclassified OS: All Reporter: ulrich.wi...@rz.uni-regensburg.de Hardware: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Version: 4.2.1.1 release Component: Writer Product: LibreOffice Why defining a style based on (linked to) another style, you cannot easily revert one modified attribute to the inherited (copied) one (once you pressed OK). If you changed an attribute by mistake, you can only reset the complete style (which is not very efficient and satisfying). Therefore I suggest a dialog that pops up when you reset a style that lists all modifies attributes (relative to the linked style) with a checkbox. If checked that attribute is reset to the inherited value; if unchecked, it remains. You don't expect to change the first letter to capital when you just jump to the next cell in the table. To reproduce: 1) Make a table 2) Type one word in the first cell with small capitals 3) Press tab to go to the next cell Result: the first letter of the first word is capitalized, which shouldn't be since you're just jumping to the next table cell. Please change this, this is not logical. ODT format. Cross references to footnotes are all wrong, both page numbers and footnote number. If I enter a cross reference (e.g. see footnote n. 23, at page 40), it then outputs a reference to some other footnote and page (e.g. see footnote n. 2, at page 5). Usually it refers to low numbers, like in the example. Unfortunately I can not provide the file as an example, but I think the problem can be easily replicated since it shows in all computer I have worked with, since at least v. 4.1 of LO.
