[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 78217] Autocorrect replacement table: selected text is copied in With field rather than Replace field
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78217 --- Comment #30 from tommy27 ba...@quipo.it --- (In reply to comment #26) ... Behavioural functionality (only text then do this) will only lead to confusion, because most users will never guess why. Let's summarize. The autocorrect replacement table may be used for 3 categories of autocorrection: 1- real typing errors (i.e. yrllow ; yellow) comment 0 2- text snippets for formatted text + images + tables ecc. ecc. (like a table with your name in bold italics and company logo etc. etc.) comment 13 3- text snippets for text only long phrases (i.e. asap ; as soon as possibile) comment 8 so the problem here is: “which is the right place” we should paste a user “selection” when opening the replacement table? I believe that behavioural functionality would not lead to confusion at all but will exactly do what is expected by the user in a logical way... let's see some scenarios: 1- user selects text but just a “single word” then is very likely that he selected a typing error and he wanna enter the proper spelling, so the selection IMHO should directly go in “replace” rather than “with”. Otherwise, as in 4.2.x, if the typo fills the “with” field and you have to cut and paste into the “replace” field and then go back to “with” and type the correct spelling. 2- user selects “formatted text + images + tables ecc. ecc.” is indeed very likely that he's not willing to correct a typing error but rather enter a text snippet for formatted text etc. etc. so logical destination is “with” as shown (and I initially missed it), if the initial destination is “replace” (like in the patched 4.3.x) you can't preserve formatting by moving manually to “with” so that's why that patch has to be reverted. 3- user selects text in “a long phrase” I see 3 different scenarios: a- user selected a correct phrase to enter an abbreviation snippet (i.e. as soon as possible ; asap) so that selection should go in “with” b- however there are chances that user selected a long phrase like “as son as possible” in which spellchecker doesn't see errors but the content of the phrase is wrong (“son / soon”) so in this case logical destination is “replace” and type “as soon as possible” in the “with field” so, bottomline is if it's technically feasible to teach LibO to guess the correct scenario and do the right choice... while I suppose it can be easy to distinguish between 1 and 2, I think that it would be probably impossible for a computer to distinguish between case 3a and 3b. probably the “prefill both” idea from Micheal Stahl ( comment 20 ) is the one which is technically easier to implement. for the moment it's better to revert patch in comment 4, than think if this autocorrect destination field can be managed without breaking functionality. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 78217] Autocorrect replacement table: selected text is copied in With field rather than Replace field
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78217 tommy27 ba...@quipo.it changed: What|Removed |Added See Also||https://bugs.freedesktop.or ||g/show_bug.cgi?id=65952 --- Comment #31 from tommy27 ba...@quipo.it --- hi guys, reading all you comments I came out with an idea that would simultaneously fix both current Bug 78217 and Bug 65952 idea would be to leave the current 4.2.x behaviour for selected text in a document and to copy into with field either if it's plain or formatted or OLE etc. etc. that would be ok in scenarios 2 and 3a of my previous post regarding scenario 1, that happens only when you try to autocorrect a typing error with right click menu and you don't find a proper spellcheck suggestion. If we could add a new item in the right click autocorrect suggestion like it was suggested in comment 26 (In reply to comment #26) ... Maybe Something else is missing, and add Always correct even if spellcheck presents no alternatives. ... and here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65952#c7 ... something like add custom could be added, which then triggers a dialog to enter a custom autocorrect entry. This is something that could be done easily. that new add custom menu item should be used to launch the autocorrect replacement table and allow the user to type his desired correction. only in this case the word should be pasted into the replace field because we are clearly dealing with a typing error situation. I'd like to hear your opinion about that. IMHO this would not alter current selection to autocorrect behaviour and will instead represent a clear improvement in the right click autocorrect experience. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35694 --- Comment #22 from patheticcockro...@patheticcockroach.com --- Confirming the bug in LibO 4.2.4.2. Actually, I was planning to open a bug report about it but then I found this one. Steps to reproduce: - insert a page number field - select it, right-click on it and select Fields - set offset to something 0 - page numbering stops when the number reaches the total number of pages in the document For instance, if your document has 10 pages and you set offset to 5, your 1st page will get number 6, , your 5th page will get number 10, and pages 6 to 10 will get no number. This is even more obvious when you set the offset to something higher than the actual page count: the page numbering field just shows nothing, on any page. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 78545] EDITING: spreadsheet cell autocomplete improvements (better algorithim)
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78545 --- Comment #2 from Richard Neill x...@richardneill.org --- Ctrl-Tab does help a bit, but it's much more awkward than a smarter auto-complete. It needs 2 extra keystrokes (which aren't easy to type fast), and then we may have to Ctrl-tab multiple times. Furthermore, it's a non-discoverable and less-intuitive way to work. There is one extra refinement needed - in that we aren't always appending data at the bottom of a column; sometimes we insert in the middle or at the top. (1) Current algorithm is: Scan from top of column for match, accept the first one. (2) Improved algorithm. Scan outward (up + down) from the current cell for a match, accept the nearest one. (3) Optimised algorithm: Scan the entire column and count matches. Accept the most popular match. Given that (3) may be harder to write, and possibly worse at runtime, I think that (2) would suffice - it should be easy to write, and would catch most of the common cases. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
