[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 78548] New: EDITING: TOC behaviour inconsistent when savings as .docx

2014-05-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78548

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 78548
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: EDITING: TOC behaviour inconsistent when savings as
.docx
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: robtig...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.4.2 rc
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description: When I close a .docx document with a Table of Contents and
reopen it information is lost. The title disappears and the table settings can
change to 'Evaluate up to level 1' on reopening.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create document
2. Insert TOC through Insert menu
3. Save the dcocument as .docx (Word 2007-2013)
4. Close LibreOffice
5. Reopen the document
6. Right click on the TOC and select Edit Index/Table
7. Title field is now blank
If the document is created in Word 2013 the Evaluation level also reverts to 1
level. (let me know if that should be another bug)

Current behavior: TOC title disappears when reopening .docx file

Expected behavior: TOC title should be retained on closing and reopening
irrespective of format

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.2.4.2 rc

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 78217] Autocorrect replacement table: selected text is copied in With field rather than Replace field

2014-05-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78217

(In reply to comment #26)
 ...
Behavioural functionality (only text then do this) will only lead to
confusion, because most users will never guess why.

Let's summarize. The autocorrect replacement table may be used for 3 categories
of autocorrection:

1- real typing errors (i.e. yrllow ; yellow) comment 0

2- text snippets for formatted text + images + tables ecc. ecc. (like a table
with your name in bold italics and company logo etc. etc.) comment 13

3- text snippets for text only long phrases (i.e. asap ; as soon as possibile)
comment 8

so the problem here is: “which is the right place” we should paste a user
“selection” when opening the replacement table?

I believe that behavioural functionality would not lead to confusion at all but
will exactly do what is expected by the user in a logical way... let's see some
scenarios:

1- user selects text but just a “single word”
then is very likely that he selected a typing error and he wanna enter the
proper spelling, so the selection IMHO should directly go in “replace” rather
than “with”.

Otherwise, as in 4.2.x, if the typo fills the “with” field and you have to cut
and paste into the “replace” field and then go back to “with” and type the
correct spelling.

2- user selects “formatted text + images + tables ecc. ecc.”
is indeed very likely that he's not willing to correct a typing error but
rather enter a text snippet for formatted text etc. etc. so logical destination
is “with”

as shown (and I initially missed it), if the initial destination is “replace”
(like in the patched 4.3.x) you can't preserve formatting by moving manually to
“with” so that's why that patch has to be reverted.

3- user selects text in “a long phrase”
I see 3 different scenarios:

a- user selected a correct phrase to enter an abbreviation snippet (i.e. as
soon as possible ; asap) so that selection should go in “with”

b- however there are chances that user selected a long phrase like “as son as
possible”
in which spellchecker doesn't see errors but the content of the phrase is wrong
(“son / soon”) so in this case logical destination is “replace” and type “as
soon as possible” in the “with field”

so, bottomline is if it's technically feasible to teach LibO to guess the
correct scenario and do the right choice...

while I suppose it can be easy to distinguish between 1 and 2, I think that it
would be probably impossible for a computer to distinguish between case 3a and
3b.

probably the “prefill both” idea from Micheal Stahl ( comment 20 ) is the one
which is technically easier to implement.

for the moment it's better to revert patch in comment 4, than think if this
autocorrect destination field can be managed without breaking functionality.

Believe in genearl this issue has been resolved fixed on Master via .UI
implementations.

working with
Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha1+
Build ID: 081a0854635f4bc9f6f743ef4e2675c208405f74
TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2014-05-06_23:32:18

the F_ile - T_emplates - S_ave as template accelerators are fully
implemented. And keyboard navigation into the templates is now correctly
implemented as UI.

Also, for issue of keyboard navigation issue see bug 73766, where the change UI
change has not been (and will not be?) back ported to 4.2.5, so done with
changed sequences in templatedlg

So with
Version: 4.2.5.0.0+
Build ID: 1b9f4a686c5f397db3bd996acf53e0ad2b5d9ded
TinderBox: Win-x86@42, Branch:libreoffice-4-2, Time: 2014-05-10_08:15:00

the File - Template - Save as template accelerators work, but the Template
Manager dialog can not be navigated via keyboard to complete the save.

Lets leave this resolved fixed for the general issue, and either reopen bug
73766 or file as new bug against File - Template - Save as template
specifically against 4.2.x

@Andrzej, thoughts on a simpler non-.UI implementation for this as well?
Perhaps accelerator assignment to toggle IsSaveMode

I don't understand the bug description. You write clicking one URL starts the
browser. Clicking a URL in LO does nothing except move your cursor to that
position.

The browser will only open if you cmd + left click a URL.

I tried clicking furiously at the URL in your test file and was unable to
reproduce any problem with that. Also tried clicking even more furiously cmd +
left click and all URL opened in my browser as expected with LO 4.2.4.2.

Please either provide very detailed repro steps or a screencast incl. a

So far I was unable to do that. After providing that info, please set the bug

Hi Ivo,

what exact steps does one need to take to reproduce this issue?
Which windows is this happening on?
Is the quickstarter the LO StartCenter?

When I open templates form the start center, I am in the documents tab and
see two templates with Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha1+
Build ID: f76026a43acc65465882924796d93e635c35fd90
TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2014-05-04_06:34:33

Please provide a screenshot showing the issue and exact repro steps. After
that, please set the bug back to unconfirmed.

hi guys, reading all you comments I came out with an idea that would
simultaneously fix both current Bug 78217 and Bug 65952

idea would be to leave the current 4.2.x behaviour for selected text in a
document and to copy into with field either if it's plain or formatted or OLE
etc. etc. that would be ok in scenarios 2 and 3a of my previous post

regarding scenario 1, that happens only when you try to autocorrect a typing
error with right click menu and you don't find a proper spellcheck suggestion.

If we could add a new item in the right click autocorrect suggestion like it
was suggested in comment 26

(In reply to comment #26)
... Maybe Something else is missing, and add Always
correct even if spellcheck presents no alternatives.
 ...

and here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65952#c7

... something like add custom could be added,
which then triggers a dialog to enter a custom
autocorrect entry. This is something that could be done easily.

that new add custom menu item should be used to launch the autocorrect
replacement table and allow the user to type his desired correction.
only in this case the word should be pasted into the replace field because we
are clearly dealing with a typing error situation.

I'd like to hear your opinion about that.
IMHO this would not alter current selection to autocorrect behaviour and will
instead represent a clear improvement in the right click autocorrect
experience.

Screenshot showing the damage done.

Hi,
Clicking a URL in LO does nothing except move your cursor to that position.
Obviously you did not unmark the checkbox:

Preferences Security Options [ ] Ctrl-click required to follow hyperlinks

But even then the bug shows (ONLY on Mavericks!), refer to the new attachment:
clicking the hyperlinks in sequence moved some to the lower cells.
To avoid misunderstandings, I run OSX 10.9.2 on an iMac with 32Gb memory
and all thinkable updates installed.

Again, 4.2.4 on both WindowsXP and Windows7 don't show this bug (any more).

After the upgrade to 4.2.4.2, there is a regression and text is not displayed

so it seems Chrome doesn't block *installation* but rather *download* of the

the duplicate is moreover about 4.1.6.2 release so it seems it's a more general

question now is: which side is the bug? problem inside LibO package or Google

Open the file attachements to see what I mean.

To reproduce:
1) Move left table up or to the upper left → data not lost
2) Move same table down or to the lower right → data lost
- will affect right table
3) go to right table, add parameter in 1st row of y-values (H19) and remove it
again within the edit mode
4) apply the logic to the full column of y-values → data is wrong
5) additionally, undo doesn't work

Works fine under Win7 Pro 64bit, LO 4.2.1.1 and

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 35694] Page number stop to count if you give a correction.

2014-05-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #22 from patheticcockro...@patheticcockroach.com ---
Confirming the bug in LibO 4.2.4.2. Actually, I was planning to open a bug
report about it but then I found this one.

Steps to reproduce:
- insert a page number field
- select it, right-click on it and select Fields
- set offset to something 0
- page numbering stops when the number reaches the total number of pages in the
document

For instance, if your document has 10 pages and you set offset to 5, your 1st
page will get number 6, , your 5th page will get number 10, and pages 6 to
10 will get no number.

This is even more obvious when you set the offset to something higher than the
actual page count: the page numbering field just shows nothing, on any page.

Yes, that's what he meant: press enter in your step 5)

This bug is really quite annoying, and resulted in my disabling most of
auto-corrections, as it makes them do more harm than good. I understand that
you could argue this behavior works as intended, except that if it is so, the
behavior should be the same with both space and enter, which is not the
case. So it's definitely a bug (not an enhancement as suggested in Bug 44062).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 78545] EDITING: spreadsheet cell autocomplete improvements (better algorithim)

2014-05-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78545

--- Comment #2 from Richard Neill x...@richardneill.org ---
Ctrl-Tab does help a bit, but it's much more awkward than a smarter
auto-complete. It needs 2 extra keystrokes (which aren't easy to type fast),
and then we may have to Ctrl-tab multiple times. Furthermore, it's a
non-discoverable and less-intuitive way to work.

There is one extra refinement needed - in that we aren't always appending data
at the bottom of a column; sometimes we insert in the middle or at the top.

(1) Current algorithm is:
Scan from top of column for match, accept the first one.

(2) Improved algorithm.
Scan outward (up + down) from the current cell for a match, accept the
  nearest one.

(3) Optimised algorithm:
Scan the entire column and count matches. Accept the most popular match.

Given that (3) may be harder to write, and possibly worse at runtime, I think
that (2) would suffice - it should be easy to write, and would catch most of
the common cases.

(In reply to comment #3)

wrt your 2nd problem (steps 3-5) I do not understand very well what you
mean. If it's a different problem, also it's better to report a separate
 issue..

It turns out that don't need to edit the cell.
I just pull down H19 to H28 and all values become 7, with the formules still
referring to the cell in the correct row..

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 78558] New: FILEOPEN: Excel spreadsheet with chart with transparent background doesn't display properly

2014-05-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78558

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 78558
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FILEOPEN: Excel spreadsheet with chart with
transparent background doesn't display properly
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: tomd...@comcast.net
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.3.3 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

When I open an Excel spreadsheet I created in Calc that has a chart with a
transparent background in Calc, the background appears blue and transparent.

If I open the same spreadsheet in MS Excel, the background is transparent, as
desired.

This problem is related to bug #64224, which has been fixed and IS working
correctly.

Here are the steps to recreate the problem:

1) Create a spreadsheet in Calc
2) Add a bar chart with a transparent background
3) Save the spreadsheet as a MS Excel 2003 file
4) Close the spreadsheet in Calc
5) Open the newly created spreadsheet in Calc
6) Verify the transparent background is blue

I first encountered this in Calc 4.2.3.3 on Ubuntu 14.04 Linux (64-bit) and
then I was able to recreate it in Calc 4.2.4.2 on Windows XP SP3.

Attached are screen shots and some test files.

I've looked into the bugs you presented. Both bugs you mentioned describe a
different problem then I described here. Thanks anyway.

I still think they are related, but may be wrong (I often see relation where
there are non or not too strong ones.. ;) )

What happens when you click a bit around on a scroll bar, all templates, etc.
Usually for me that functions as work around...

  Reporter: miron.cris...@gmail.com
  Hardware: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.3.3 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

I wanted to insert a new row, but by mistake Shift did not act, so I overwrote
text in an already text filled cell. Undo command did NOT restored my original
text! Also, after inserting a new row, I noticed that I inserted it at a wrong
line, so I used Undo to eliminate it. It did NOT work! Instead, the Calc
program put the text in the cell below in the new row!! I can't imagine how is
this hard to record the editing commands in order to undo them, it has been
done since MS Office #2!

I've got the impression that the screen has two modes: normal and import. For
one reason or the other, mine is in the wrong mode. Sometimes (1 out of 100) I
see the normat mode with buttons like openen. At that time the screen is
functioning normally (as expected).
That is why this seems to be an other problem than the others mentioned.

Work arounds like suggested have no positive effect (negative on my mood).

@m.a.riosv:

I don't agree. This bug is about that the selection does not stop at the end of
the filled range.
As long as we don't know if both bugs have a common root cause, this one should
be kept open.

I think this bug is a regression introduced in build 4.2.4.2 while bug 42535 is
an old one.
