[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 81906] New: Data loss due to session management with roaming profiles
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81906 Priority: medium Bug ID: 81906 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: Data loss due to session management with roaming profiles Severity: normal Classification: Unclassified OS: Linux (All) Reporter: glo...@fbihome.de Hardware: x86 (IA32) Status: NEW Version: 4.1.6.2 release Component: framework Product: LibreOffice The current session management temporarly stores modified user data in /var/tmp/tmpdir. This happens on logout without any user interaction. This is fine, as long as the user doesn't have a roaming profile. My guess is most of our users expect the LO to ask for actions for modified documents on logout. But as the data isn't lost, it should be sufficient to update the user documentation. OTOH if you remove LO from session management in KDE4, LO tries to get user feedback, but the logout process simply kills the application, which might result in data loss. I don't know if LO can distinguish between the shutdown from the session logout and a user triggered quit. From my POV for the first case the temporary save should be done and no user interaction requested. So I suggest to implement the following behaviour / options: 1. select the user profile (suggested subdir auto-restore) as the temporary storage dir, so roaming profiles can work. This will prevent data loss. 2. an new load/save option to restore the old behaviour to require user interaction on logout (yeah - I know about http://xkcd.com/1172/ ...) From my POV 1. is mandatory, while 2. would be nice to have. I'm not sure if the KDE4 logout process should wait for the application to quit, even if an application is removed from session management, so it won't be restored on login...? AFAIK MS Windows does this for stuck apps, providing some kind of information window, so the user can decide to abort logoff. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 45892] Concurrent use of MathType and LibreOffice Math in LibreOffice Writer can cause a MathType error
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45892 --- Comment #23 from Pierre Farrugia pierresan...@gmail.com --- Dear Joel, The steps to follow are these: 1. Open an document in Writer. 2. Insert a MathType equation using: Insert - OLE Object - Further Objects - Microsoft Equation 3.0 (or MathType; should be the same). Write something in it and close. 3. Repeat Step 2 eleven or more times. 4. Try to insert a Math (LibreOffice) formula. The error will appear at this point. Personally I use the following macro to insert the MathType more quickly, sub InsertMathTypeFormulaInWriter dim oTargetDocument as variant oTargetDocument = ThisComponent dim oCurrentController as variant oCurrentController = oTargetDocument.getCurrentController() dim oFormula as variant oFormula = oTargetDocument.createInstance(com.sun.star.text.TextEmbeddedObject) oFormula.CLSID = 0002CE03---C000-0046 oFormula.AnchorType = com.sun.star.text.TextContentAnchorType.AS_CHARACTER oFormula.attach(oCurrentController.Selection.getByIndex(0) ) dim oXCOEO as variant: oXCOEO = oFormula.ExtendedControlOverEmbeddedObject oXCOEO.doVerb(com.sun.star.embed.EmbedVerbs.MS_OLEVERB_PRIMARY) End Sub The error is reproducible both if you use the macro as well as if you insert manually the MathType instance. I am running LibreOffice 3.6.2.2 on XP at the moment. Hope this information is enough. If you need anything else just let me know. Cheers Pierre (In reply to comment #22) Hi Pierre - So I installed a 30 day trial of MathType - if you can give EXACT reproducible steps (give the steps both in MathType -- which I am unfamiliar with -- and LibreOffice). What I found, beside to not having the icon of the Quickstart in LibOffice 4.3.x, is that whenever I install/update/reinstall a new version/subversion of LibreOffice since it was released for the first time (version 3.3), even if I check the choice of Loading LibreOffice at system startup during the (re)installation of the program, this option does not work. In fact going to Tools - Options - Memory after the first launch, the option Load Libre Office during suytem startup is not checked. I have to manually check this option during the first (or subsequent) run - close the program - restart it. This way it start to work. So IMHO it seems to be an useless option during installation steps. Please note that I *ALWAYS* perform the custom setup of LibreOffice; I don't know if this option is ok using the standard setup. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80941 --- Comment #14 from Michael Stahl mst...@redhat.com --- by the way, installing any number of different versions of the RPM packages is already possible, i've got about 100 of them on my build box, just use the bundled install script, it works even on dpkg based systems... the reason why LO has so many individual RPM/DEB packages is to appease the obsessive-compulsive there must not be any package that depends on GTK+ / Qt / Java / Python / [whatever else my religion disallows] installed on my system, and i don't *need* Draw so want to save 5MB by not installing that crowd. perhaps we should just stop distributing binary builds for Linux from TDF, and just rely on downstream distributions to take care of that? basically upstream distribution is always going to suck, until something like http://lwn.net/Articles/562138/ is widely available - but since Linux distros currently can't agree even on which low level package manager to use, it's going to take some years... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

Well, distributing no builds at all wouldnt be too good for QA and early testing. But yes, using these builds in production isnt a wise choice in general. FWIW, I would suggest to just make one binary Linux tarball available upstream. That would allow testing, but wouldnt suggest to promise proper packaging (e.g. with dependency resolution etc.) as RPMs/DEBs do. Also proper packaging cant be provided generically (distro independant) and sanely anyway, as every attempt at that so far shows. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 81913] New: Navigating with arrow keys disables cell highlighting (in text and in spreadsheet)
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81913 Priority: medium Bug ID: 81913 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: Navigating with arrow keys disables cell highlighting (in text and in spreadsheet) Severity: normal Classification: Unclassified OS: All Reporter: fuer_komment...@yahoo.de Hardware: Other Status: UNCONFIRMED Version: 4.3.0.3 rc Component: Spreadsheet Product: LibreOffice In Calc, when selecting a cell for editing with a Formula in it (like = A3 * B4) with double-clicking it, the referenced cells get highlighted (since 4.3 with nice colors :)). But when then using the arrow keys on the keyboard to naviugate the input cursor, the hightlighting goes off and the cells are just non-highlighted cells and the text is black again. Would be nice if the highlighting stays on as long as the cell with the formula is active. Because the highlighting is especially useful when changing the formula (- moving the input cursor) and not only when viewing it. (I'd even like it more, when the highlighting goes on as soon as the cell with the formula is selected with a single click, not only when it is being made active for editing with a double-click, but that just as a sidenote) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 80941] LibreOffice should be installable from a GUI.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80941 --- Comment #16 from Björn Michaelsen bjoern.michael...@canonical.com --- (In reply to comment #5) Current version of LibreOffice for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is LibreOffice 3.5.7.2. Ubuntu LTS 12.04 will be supported until April 2017. FWIW, this Ubuntu support includes LibreOffice. Note though, that for most issues this means that you have to have a support contract (either at Ubuntu/Canonical or another certified provider: http://www.documentfoundation.org/certification/developers/ ). If you dont want that thanks to open source and early releases, you have another option (both at Ubuntu and at LibreOffice -- or any other open source project): You can download alpha and beta releases or daily builds and make sure you report your issues early. As you are not paying for support, you have no assurance that the issue will be fixed, but reporting early certainly will improve your chances. And even so, the version of LO for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is probably now frozen and not being updated anymore. Wrong. LibreOffice is updated timely on Ubuntu 14.04. If you are overeager to get updates, I suggest to enable the LibreOffice PPA, which will give you updates even quicker. If I report bugs about LibreOffice on this version, the first thing LO people tell me is to try it on the latest version; bug reports from 3.5.7.2 are not accepted. Also, even if they were, there is no mean to test the bug fix since the repository version of LO is not updated. As suggested above: All certified LibreOffice providers can provide you with custom fixes and long term support. recommended further reading: http://skyfromme.wordpress.com/2014/05/20/train-stops/ http://summit.ubuntu.com/uds-1308/meeting/21942/client-1308-rolling-libreoffice/ -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
