I've done that (unfortunately a have performed a security update of win 7 sinse the last test) and the instability problem remains, but I now get a Bad Allocation error, without any details. Restating LO and replacing "NA" with other characters works fine though, it's just the empty string "" (leaving the "Replace by" empty) that kills LO Calc. So, for example, you can't select a paragraph, copy it, and make many copies by repeatedly typing ENTER followed by ^V (the copies will be made but the character formats are lost). As I suspected, that was the enhancement that attempted to enable porportional image scaling by default for Calc, Impress, and Draw. It also enabled porportional image movement as well. I can save the file as *.ods and then open with version 4.3.4.1, that works. Where is the error? Older versions of LO seem to handle this document better. Newer versions of LO seem to get worse and worse in regards to this specific document.
