The Formula Toolbar fields for viewing/entering a cell's contents and viewing
the cell's name or address go blank if focus is shifted from that window
elsewhere.  This makes comparing the contents of these fields to anything else
on the screen (e.g., another spreadsheet document) difficult.  I do not recall
this behavior before version 5.

Still happens in 5.0.2 (Debian GNU/Linux, 64bit).

It happens both while using the icons from the sidebar or the CTL+[ shortcut.
Changing the directionality to RTL resets the bullet size, and changing to LTR
brings it to the proportional size. See the attached testdoc.

Checking it on Windows 10 with a fresh LibreOffice profile using LibreOffice
5.0.2, I cannot reproduce the BMP-only problem. Emoji replacement works without
any problem. 

Check the followings to get a working emoji support on your operating system:

1. On Linux, you need to install Symbola font (or other fonts with emoji
support). On recent Windowses, Emoji support is default, on older Windowses,
it's possible to update for it (see MS document on "An update for the Segoe UI
symbol font in Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2 is available").

2. First check the BMP character replacements, eg. with :alpha: in an English
language documents. If you had problems, check the list in the AutoCorrect
dialog. If the (English language) replacement list don't contain the emoji
replacements, remove the copy of the old acor*dat from your profile (IMPORTANT
NOTE: don't delete it, if you don't want to lose your own custom
replacements.):

For example, moving the copy of the acor_en-US.dat to ~/tmp under Linux:

mv .config/libreoffice.orig/4/user/autocorr/acor_en-US.dat ~/tmp

After restarting LibreOffice, check the list in that dialog window, you will
see the replacements (using LibreOffice 5.0).

Recent Linux and Windows versions show also the Emoji characters in the dialog
window (they have extended Unicode UI fonts).

3. Try non-BMP character replacements. On Linux, in the case of using some
simple text fonts (for example, old Windows fonts or Liberation), you don't
need to set explicitly Symbola in the text to get non-BMP characters, otherwise
it needs to set Symbola in character formatting of the text. Also on Windows, I
didn't need to specify Segoe UI Emoji.

I must have been smoking strong stuff when setting this to new 

So problem one is that (reserved) names does not respect and enforce
cases. This looks as a enhancement request.
Wrt indents, I tend to think that it's more up to the habits of the
scripter?
Removing tailing spaces/tabs could be a nice tool, indeed.
..

Since we appreciate one issue for each problem, request/if you feel
clear on the other two, it would be my request to create them into
separate issues and then limit this issue (including the
description/summary) to the handling of case in names?

Supose you create two named ranges:
- one constant 'fixed_range' ranges from: $Sheet1.$A$3:$A$30
- second dynamic size 'dynamic_range' ranges using this formula:
$Sheet1.$A$3:INDEX($Sheet1.$A$3:$A$30,COUNT($Sheet1.$A$3:$A$30))

Let's say the data are formatted as date.
Create two validaty cells which items are linked to names 'fixed_range' and
'dynamic_range'.

When you open dynamic_range list the date are shown as general numbers not on
date format actually.

I had the same problem and I could say this bug still exists on 5.0.0.5 and
recent 5.0.2 versions. The problem resides if range starts from ROW 3 for
example and a reference $A$3:$A$1048576 cannot (should not) converted to $A:$A.
In this case, inserting a new ROW breaks the named reference to $A$3:$A$#REF!.

Aha, during import we try to make the textframe at-paragraph anchored, and
still have its vertical position based on the line position, that is only
possible for at-char anchoring. I'll take care of this.

Sorry, I was confused by labels. (And you also...)
2 columns have the same label "log_data_mb".

If I choose the second in the drop down list, sort is done correctly.

What you described isnt what i would classify as a typical sidebar users and
what MSO utilizes as a sidebar is different to what LO has as a sidebar. LO's
sidebar is comparable to the sidebar found in iWork and Calligra.

Dont think this default should ever change and doubt many additional dialogs
will be added to the sidebar that would likely change this situation. There
will always be users who dont want to use the sidebar, so we shouldnt force the

To reproduce this bug:
- create a new document;
- write some random text;
- make it a bullet list;
- strike it "with X".

Observation: there are some unexpected rectangular characters at the beginning
of the line.

Expected behaviour: having "X" instead of the rectangles.

It doesn't happen with the other strikethroughs, neither with image bullets or
with numbers instead of bullets. If the text is stroke before adding bullets,

Hi,

this bug submission is, IMO, not related to 73071. As the OP stated: the
question is about the sidebar keeping track of its last state when the last
LibO session was closed. As of v.5.0.1, this problem is still there.

The question about what should be the default pane in the sidebar is just
unrelated and a whole question on its own.

Currently, as a professional writer, I want to have the Stylist pane visible by
default but I can't. The Navigator is opened in a separate window but the
Sidebar insists on displaying the Properties pane, even for documents I've been
working on for some time.

So, to summarize: set whatever pane as default pane in the Sidebar (though I
would prefer the Stylist ;) When the user selects another Sidebar pane when
working on a document, further opening that document should activate the chosen
pane.

Thanks for your additional info.
It is the way I had understood it (after some reading ;) )
But the strange think is, that I could not really reproduce it. 
Maybe because I had done some various/random editing too?

Now, trying with only copy/paste C3:D3 to C9, and doing the steps, the problem
clearly shows.

This problem occurs when a cell has a list or a range of cells as validity
criteria:
I've seen many people trying to type the first letters, expecting the good text
to appear by completion. It works fine if the text has already been typed in
another place and is in the history. Otherwise, users open the dropdown list,
but the cursor position in the list is not related to the first letters typed.

I've seen several people disturbed by this and give up, saying "it's odd" or
"it doesn't work".

It can be improved by two non-exclusive ways:
1. When a cell has a list or a range of cells as validity criteria, add this
range/list to the texts available by completion
2. When a cell has a list or a range of cells as validity criteria, when the
user opens the dropdown list after having typed some letters, the dropdown
list's cursor should be at the closest item to the typed text.

Make it the other way round. Put the link into the variable. Then the link is
shown, when this variable is embedded.

Example:

File text/scalc/guild/filters.xhp defines for the heading the variable
'id="filters"' which contains a link 'href="text/scalc/guide/filters.xhp"'.
That is a kind of link to itself, it links to the file, which contains this
variable. In that file the link is not shown as link, because the file is
already in view. You see this file in the help from Contents > Spreadsheets >
Filtering and Sorting > Applying Filters.

This variable is embedded in file text/scalc/guild/main.xhp (see line 86). You
see this file in the help from Contents >Spreadsheets > General Information ...

When using a cell name beginning with same letters than a real cell address
followed by an underscore (ie. matching "[a-zA-Z]{1,3}_.*", "abz_foo1" per
example) in a fonction, it's seen as the cell matching the beginning (as "ABZ"
per example):
 "=SUM(baz_begin:baz_end)" is seen as "=SUM(BAZ:BAZ)"

 (I know that one can name a range directly, I use a simple case for example).

 It probably worth to notice that if using the cell name directly in a formula
it works correctly:
 "= baz_begin + baz_end" is doing the job.

 I put severity as major, because the problem did'nt exist in v4.4, and this
can be a problem for who want to migrate, and a bigger one for who already
have. Anyway, a possible workaround is to prefix cell names with an underscore
before migration, if not to much cell names nor files.

 Hope you'll understand what I meant, as I'm not a native english speaker and
the problem is not so simple to explain…

Removing pstoedit does work as a debugging test (that's partly how I isolated
the problem) but it doesn't work in practice for most users because it breaks
other software packages which rely on pstoedit.  If there's a way to just
remove it from the LibreOffice path could you let me know?  But that still is a
much more obscure fix for most users than simply providing an option to
explicitly set the renderer preference.  If it were just me I'd simply reverse
the preference from the current one, but that might have negative impacts on
others.

I understand this patch doesn't fix all the problems, but the pdf and printer
output I get from this is still a LOT better than with pstoedit.  It may not
provide the enhancements requested by some, but it DOES (at least for me) fix
the very bad regression which started sometime after 4.1.6.  And that
regression for users who DID have tolerably working EPS rendering, is what has
caused the most serious complaints.

Well on OS X or Windows that is not an issue--pstoedit is not routinely

No, your suggested environment approach would be the only way to toggle between
WMF/EMF vector previews via pstoedit and "native" BMP rasters via Ghostscript
or Imagemagick convert.

Personally, the pstoedit EMF vector previews in LibreOffice are of such low
quality, I'd prefer elimination of the RenderAsEMF methods [1] until a better
option for vector previews can be implemented.

I think Marcelo's observation is slightly different, although no less valid. 
What I reported had to do with the case of an entire row or column, and the
implied need (which had already been recognized by the developers of Calc and
addressed with version 5) for being able to specify it without reference to the
first or last column of a row, or the first or last row of a column.  Marcelo's
situation, as I understand it, is different in that he wants less than an
entire row or column, but wants the upper end of that partial row or column to
be whatever the sheet's last possible range is.  One could "fix" the case he
gives by having Calc automatically check the last row or column of a named
range whenever it was being expanded, and not allow the upper range to exceed
the sheet's maximum.  However, if -- instead of inserting new rows or columns
-- he deleted rows or columns from such a range, Calc would have no way of
knowing to keep the named range at its max value, and so would reduce the upper
value by as many rows or columns as were removed.  So, it seems to me that the
user would have to have some way of indicating, when a named range was being
created, that the range extended to the last possible row/column, and was to be
maintained as such despite subsequent insertion or removal of columns/rows. 
Whereas an entire column can now (as of version 5) be specified as "$A:$A",
what Marcelo seems to be implying is that something equivalent to "$A3:$A"
needs to be recognized as a column beginning at row 3 and extending all the way
to the last possible row of the sheet, and retained as such despite supsequent
insertions or deletions of interim rows.  I don't know if present versions of
Excel can handle this, but the old version 5.0 of Excel that I continue to use
(even under Wine and Linux) can't handle it.  I will add that expecting a user
to specify the last possible row or column by its actual value is unreasonable
because (1) who can remember such values, and (2) these limits could change
with future versions.  So, to properly address the situation Marcelo describes
requires a new accepted syntax for so indicating an upper column/row limit.

I've been wondering why this bug hasn't been fixed yet (it seems like it would
be very easy to fix!) and see that it's categorized as "Trivial"... this is not
correct I think, it should be a "Medium/Normal".

I checked the Bug Triage flowchart linked to above and one of the criteria is
"Does it make it harder (or more severely, prevent) a user from doing high
quality work"... yes it does! Whenever I open a document in LibreOffice I have
to manually inspect all the text to see if the text has been accurately
rendered.

Accurate rendering of characters seems like it should be the most fundamental
property of a document tool, but this ticket implies that mis-rendering one
character for another is not a big deal. But it can be!! For example, it's not
uncommon to have nested lists (bullets at one level, diamonds or flowers at
another), and when OpenOffice fails to distinguish between them it can (in
extreme cases) hide the conceptual organization of the material we are
presenting.

And re: my first point; isn't this an easy (trivial??) bug to fix? 

If it is, can the Document Foundation *please* fix this bug so we no longer
have to visually compare documents to make sure our new document versions are
faithful to the originals!?

I see same crash issue in Base Database with:
* Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on an i7 920
* LibreOffice 5.0.2.2 (x64)
* Java SE Developer Kit 7 Update 85 (64-bit)
* PostgreSQL 9.3 JDBC4 driver in DbVisualizer Free 9.2.10 (64-bit)
* PostgreSQL 9.4.4 server in FreeBSD 9.3 jail on FreeNAS 9.3.

I see no crashes with the PortableApps LibreOffice 5.0.2.2 (32-bit), so
something must be messed up in the 64-bit version.

DbVisualizer 9.2.10 (64-bit) connects OK too.

Sorry, but I won't be installing any Microsoft debugging bloat because it can
take up a loads of space and can be a pain to cleanly get rid of later; anyhow
LibreOffice should provide it's own debug logging/capture for this, not the
useless error message I saw.

In order to reproduce the bug:
[1] Create two simple templates and save them into a template folder. 
[2] Inside the Template Manager open this folder. The created templates are
displayed as thumbnails.
[3] In order to select all templates: Ctrl+A. It does not work.
[4] Select a template with the mouse.
[5] In order to copy the template: Ctrl+C, change template folder and then
Ctrl+V. It also does not work.
[6] Go back to first folder. Select a template. In order to cut the template:
Ctrl+X. Template still exists and keeps selected.
[7] In order to delete the template (push to recycle bin): Del. Template still
exists.
[8] In order to delete the template (irreversible): Shift+Del. Template still
exists.

Not perfectly sure about component.

I don't remember what version I used last time under Finnish (never tried under
Estonian before) while changing the macro security settings, so I set it
5.0.2.2 where the problem arises consistenly.

Tested on
- Window$ 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 (freeze)
- Window$ 8.1 Pro x64 (disappearance)

When set to British English and LO rebooted the window functions normally. I
normally install just British English, and if LO is installed for a Finn,
Finnish language too, so I don't know about languages. I have Estonian
installed on the 8.1 just in case.

As for the window contents (7 only):
1) the minimal option shows up translated correctly along with its radio button
2) the medium option
2.1) is missing the radio button
2.2) 's long text sometimes has an underlining of sorts where it starts from
the beginning of the line, covering the first, capital, letter by half
3) the rest of the options, along with the radio buttons, are gone

Reproduction:
1) Install LO with British English, Finnish and optionally Estonian GUI
languages
2) Start LO
3) If the language isn't Finnish or Estonian, set it and reboot LO
4) Finnish only this point on: Open the §Työkalut§ menu and choose §Asetukset§
from the bottom
5) In the left list, choose §Suojaus§ under §LibreOffice§, click the §Makrojen
suojaukset§ button
6.1) On 7, all LO windows are frozen to the point of silent crash without CPU
usage. You have to kill LO, and apart from the window everything else functions
like before after that.
6.2) On 8.1 LO is immediately gone.

When I do FILE-NEW-TEXT DOCUMENT to get a new document, the formatting is not
correct.  It may show a 12-point setting but the actual type size is enormous
and I am unable to change it.

I created a simple stacked bar chart in Calc. The export to .XLSX is distorted
and not usable. See attached screenshots of Calc and Excel.

If I export to .xls, Excel 2010 imports it correctly, but gives an error
message afterwards. If I simply open the .ods in Excel, it is imported
absolutely correctly. Hence, there must be an issue in the .xlsx filter. All
three files are attached.

The missing function is the command launching the Character Formatting Window,
and it's always been named "Carattere".
I noticed the issue only in LibreOffice 5.0.1, because I had to reinstall the
OS and could not recover all my former personal settings (anyway, in another PC
I own, which didn't need any reinstallation, although the Tools > Customize
window behaves the same way as reported here, LibreOffice 5.0.2 has mantained
the former personal settings, in which I have assigned the shortcut +
to the Character Formatting Window launcher command.

2) Now we can insert the name of the function, and translators do not need to
translate it.

3)But if we put in a embedvar in a link, we do not see a link, we see just the

But it increases the number of lexemes for translation.

Antonello, I don't think it's useful to confirm the bug is present in 4.2.8.2
when previous comments have already shown it to be reproducible in 3.4.2
through 4.3.5.2.

That said, I can confirm that the bug still exists in more recent versions (at
least up to 5.0.2.2).

As the screenshot shows, the extended tip is always "Use this tab page to enter
or edit user data." in the left selection tree, whichever option is selected.

This bug is still present in all lo programs, at least up to Libreoffice
4.2.8.2 in ubuntu: when you export to pdf a document while selecting an object,
even if you specify the "selection" option in the "range" field of the export
dialog, the whole page is exported and not just the selection.

I am attaching the following documents:
- very basic sample lo document
- screnshoot of the export dialog
- resulting pdf (the whole page and not just the selection)

regarding the missing "Carattere" item I see that in the Italian UI under LibO
4.4.5 there's "Colore riempimento carattere" and "Colore sfondo carattere" 

are those the function you miss?

did they have a different name in previous LibO release?
can you tell which was the latest LibO version where you had that "Carattere"
item in the right place?

Maybe Tools > Options > Load/Save > General .. relative paths has influence on
this? Never checked that.
But the link of the template can be absolute, including the path. So if the
initial template has a path to the 4.x installation and now is on the 5.x path,
that would explain it.

Draft how the enhancement may look like.

If you open a template folder in the Template Manager, it is at first view not
obvious what is displayed and how to navigate back to the template folder
overview. Hence I propose two changes:

(a) Change the name of expression 'All Templates' to 'Show all Templates' or
'View all Templates' or 'Show Template Folders', add an icon with an arrow to
this expression and move expression + icon to the symbol bar of the Template
Manager.

(b) Increase the size of the displayed folder name, add the kind of templates
to the folder name and add a background colour for whole expression.

I confirm the issue under Win8.1 x64 as well

the item "Format > Character" (in the Italian UI "Formato > Carattere" was
available 'till LibO 4.0.6 (see screenshot) and disappeared since LibO 4.1.0

I don't know if it was intentionally removed or not...
anyway let's set status to NEW

that item is missing in recent LibO releases and in LibO Dev 5.1 alpha too
