[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 94673] when creating a new document, the cursor is NOT in focus so you can't start typing

2015-10-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94673

CORRECTION: (it is NOT gone)
although I checked it twice, both on a WINXP and a WIN7 machine, when I wanted
to change the status to resolved, it came up again...

there's tricky thing though:
I open a new file (by clicking the NEW icon), and nothing.. I type, but
there'll be noting written... BUT, when I'm about to create a new document
again, the cursor appears... RIGHT WHEN I click the NEW icon, it will appear
(in the already open, previously created one)...
(NOTE: when I experienced that it was GONE, it was really gone, not in this
tricky manner)

So, I have shut down the machine, booted up again, opened Writer, from the
"splash" screen I chose a previously opened document (an ODT, of course), and
then I clicked the NEW icon.

on WINXP: it was GONE.

on WIN7: NOT GONE, the tricky behavior: when clicking on the NEW icon, the
cursor will appear in the previously opened document...

ALSO: when I change window, go to another open document, and then come back,
the cursor will already be there...
- - - - - - - - - - -

NOW I don't know how it seemed to be gone...

OKAY: it is GONE.

I wanted to uninstall Libreoffice completely to start over -- but then I
realized that the 5.1 alpha and the 5.1.2.2 coexisted.. and then I checked
which version my quick launche opens and it was the 5.0.2.2.
so I opened Writer by clicking the new icon on the desktop (not on the QL
toolB) and then it was GONE.

Sorry for this intermezzo.
and thanks

now someone could change it resolved, I guess

2015-10-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93318

> As to position of the Add-sheet "Plus" button, I find that pinned to the
> right of the sheet navigation buttons is a comfortable spot

All of those buttons are tiny and easy to mis-click, as described in the
original description. I agree with Alex here. If you've ever used any tabbed
interface this is how they nearly all work. See every web browser for examples.
So the user expects the "+" at the end away from the navigation buttons. You
don't want the user accidentally adding tabs when they are trying to navigate.
This is why web browsers put it at the end, and we should do the same.

Tomaž,
Has bring back these unnecessary buttons been discussed by the UX team? We've
been doing a great job of cleaning up the overly cluttered UI. Going back to 4
buttons is a step backwards.

2015-10-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43928

(In reply to Julien Nabet from comment #6)
> ux-team: what should be behavior of the cursor?

In general, controls that are in the tabstop sequence receive the focus. So a
readonly input will still get the focus unless it's enabled property is set to
false. This behavior is common in every environment and widgetset.

The second part of the question is about the cursor. I don't see any reason to
hide it for readonly controls, in fact that contradicts the axiom of affordance
and discoverability. Sounds more like a bug to me.

I do not agree with Luke.
I like the last and first button and I'm happy that Tomaz brought them back.

the best thing would be an option to customize which buttons to show and in
which position just like in regular toolbars

this way every user would be pleased and nobody will never rant again.

if you remove buttons, those who like them will be annoyed
if you bring them back, those who don't like them will be annoyed

the only asnwer is allowing full customization

2015-10-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Problem is still there with version Version: 4.4.4.3
Build-ID: 2c39ebcf046445232b798108aa8a7e7d89552ea8

BTW: In the German version the text "Shrink to fit cell size" appears as "An
Zellgröße anpassen". This translation has a somewhat different meaning. The
English version states that the cell size will be reduced, the German version
includes both reduction and enlargement of cell size. I don't know which
version describes the actual behaviour.

backtrace, you could change it back to unconfirmed.

KDE crashes too often with system dialogs
(https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-37380 / 34614 / 38585), and
only inbuilt file dialogs are used therefore. But the option "[ ] Use LibO
dialogs" remains active and unchecked. Please check and disabled it so the user
gets a clear feedback.

Currently the inbuilt file dialog can be resized to a minimum of 867x450 for
LibO-fresh and 658x450 for master (running on KDE). The normal file dialogs are
limited by the contained controls. If that is not possible I vote for a low
minimum like 300x200px in order to let the user decide which size dialog should
have.

Every control should get a tooltip. In particular the unlabeled toolbar items
need it. The inbuilt dialog lacks on tooltip for the up-button (!), places
along with + / -, and read-only. Those are special in this dialog and need
explanation. I would also add tooltips for Version and File Type.

Document which behaviour is noticed

With the attached sheet I get blank menus, from either left or right click.
whilst the rest of the program (save, open) seems responsive. When I try and
open with Excel 2003 (with converter) I get an error that the converter failed
to open the file.

Is it possible that this has somehow become corrupted (problem still evident if
saved as .ods), or something (like the spell check) working its way through
every field (I don't think 800 rows is big).

Marcus said on irc

the panels map to the FillProperties and LineProperties in chart2's UNO
API
as long as they are offered by an object we use them directly and then
the view code decides how to interpret them
data points are just an ugly case, they provide both but not all chart
types make use of all the properties
weird that line charts have FillProperties when it has no Area tab
all data series and data points have these properties
they are all implemented by the same core object and just the rendering
is different based on the chart type

Normal file dialogs have an option to switch between short and detailed view
and allow to switch to a tree view. On Windows there is also the icon view.
Also, user can switch on/off hidden files on Linux.

If the LibO dialog will be used for longer it makes sense to have all common
features available.

Good IMO.

I would also suggest to
 - make the dialog height adjustable and

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 95086] New: Improve LibO file dialog: Places and favorites

2015-10-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95086

Bug ID: 95086
Summary: Improve LibO file dialog: Places and favorites
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.0.2.2 release
  Hardware: Other
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: tietze.he...@gmail.com

Created attachment 119639
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=119639&action=edit
File dialog in KDE/Plasma 5 (started from Okular) with bookmarks dropdown
expanded

The current dialog presents a list of "favorites" but labels this as places.
Normal file dialogs show places but those are rather default folders like Home,
Network, Root, Trash etc. Favorites are presented in a dropdown (at least at
KDE).

My suggestion is to show places and favorites, separately in two lists. Places
should be similar to what is shown in the normal OS dialog, favorites would be
the editable part with +/- (and perhaps edit as in master). The minus has to
get disabled when nothing is selected to delete, the + when there is nothing to
add, for instance the current folder/address was added before and would be a
duplicate.

This comment isn't about the note color per se, but about the text background,
but the same reasoning applies.

An especially desirable feature since today LibreOffice 4.4.5.2 decided my text
background color on notes should be black (it was white before which was just
ugly on the yellow note). So I have now black on black writing in my comment
boxes.

I could change the text foreground color and get that readable, of course, but
that's still annoying (and still ugly).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 95083] Blank Menu on xls sheet

2015-10-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95083

I copied all the data off the sheet and pasted into a new blank sheet, saved
with a different name, to eliminate any possible issue with the file. The copy
process had the effect of un-hiding the cells, with the totalling let in place.

On the menu open you see the blank box for milliseconds before it populates,
which I could accept. I then started to hide some of the rows, and the blank
menu delay increases to a few seconds. It does not occur every time, just most.

I saved the spreadsheet as .ODS this time.

I deleted the two colums with the most text data, leaving numbers, and the
menus are instant, suggesting a problem with the text. I have read other bugs
regarding the spell / grammar check and slow speeds on large documents from
some time ago.

To prove this I copied the text columns and pasted several, and the delay
increased proportionally, suggesting that it is the text causing the delay.

I will do some additional testing with formats and report back.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 93318] Calc sheet navigation buttons on extreme left of Tab bar

2015-10-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93318

The decision should be made by the UX team. If we accepted every bug report
like this one asking for the classic behavior, our UI would never change.

Instead of all of this talk, I'd love to see actual usage stats. With the new
5.0 UI, I need to be working in spreadsheets with over 20 sheets for the
first/last button useful. I've seen thousands of spreadsheets in my life, and
20+ sheets is the exception, NOT the rule.

And spreadsheet power users like our accounts barely touch the mouse. They get
around with CTRL+Page Up/Down.

Unless stats show otherwise, these 2 buttons are only good for cluttering up
our UI. Yousuf's proposal was the right solution.

I insist that customization is the right solution.

I don't care if you are a power user or a newbie.
the best interface is a flexible and customizable one that allows to show/hide
the buttons you need.

A fairly normal (sadly) focus notification problem during dispose; patch in
gerrit here - that should improve a number of similar post-dispose accesses
around the place: https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/19387

Thanks !

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 95087] New: Padding of the Sum block in the status bar is too high

2015-10-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95087

Bug ID: 95087
Summary: Padding of the Sum block in the status bar is too high
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.0.2.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: sworddrag...@aol.com

If I'm clicking on a cell with for example a number in it I'm noticing that the
Sum block in the status bar increases the size while it still has a high
padding. Maybe the left and right padding of the Sum block can be lowered to
avoid increasing the size that fast.
