[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 97492] New: FORMATTING: Writer gradually becomes slow, especially w.r.t applying styles
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97492 Bug ID: 97492 Summary: FORMATTING: Writer gradually becomes slow, especially w.r.t applying styles Product: LibreOffice Version: 5.0.4.2 release Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Linux (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Writer Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: eyal...@technion.ac.il I am working on documents which were originally imported from MS Word (but I've been copy-pasting those files and editing versions of them for years now). They are in Hebrew. They're not so large (~10 pages typically) and have maybe one embedded image. In LO 4.x, everything was hunky-dory, so to speak, and I was editing with ease. Suddently, with LO 5.x, I've began to experience gradual slowdown as I work. This is in the responsiveness of LO in general - it becomes more sluggish - but most of all when it comes to chaging paragraph styles. It gets to the point of me having to wait 10-15 seconds - on a fairly recent Core i5, 3.4 GHz and lots of RAM - to switch from Heading 2 to Heading 3 and back. If I shut down the app - not just the document, but all document windows - and restart it, It's like I reset the slowness level to a reasonable value. At first I thought this had something to do with Paragraph style previews, so I disabled those, but there wasn't a noticeable effect. I also tried another computer, same phenomenon basically. I do think it's worse when the style pane is open, though. I'm not sure if I'm barking up the right tree w.r.t. where the problem lies - maybe it has nothing to do with styles and that's just a symptom - but it is making use of LO almost intolerable. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

That is in line with what I remember from user feed back in all kind of situations. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95530 --- Comment #17 from Udo Forstmann --- I was making a backtrace (comment 10), but I have got no answer about it and I don't know if the backtrace is useful. This case was reproduceable for me in two different environments (win and linux). If you can't see something in this backtrace, I have to look after a new reproduceable situation in my new file that I have written from scratch. This is not so easy for me, I have to take some personal informations out of the file, find a error thats not happens at one time and set up the debugging. Actually the definition of csv is not comma (for one reason it is used in europe as decimal separator. The old csv standard used ";", and later it was defined that you can use any character as long as it does not appear in the values (except if enclosed by ""). You will see that most import filters allow you to specify which delimiter to use. I too have a parallel installation (debug and production), and GetConfigPath() delivers the right directories to me. Test if your configs are separated, modify the configuration in one installation and make sure it is not changed in the other. if you look at the code, you will see several places where GetConfigPath() is used, so I sure hope it works. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97467 --- Comment #6 from Yousuf (Jay) Philips --- (In reply to Urmas from comment #4) > You can make more space by moving 'Clear direct formatting' into the > 'Styles' menu, where it makes more sense. The 'Styles' menu is for creating, applying, and modifying paragraph and character styles, while the Format menu allows you to apply direct formatting (Bold, Text Alignment, Line Spacing, etc), so why would removing direct formatting be in a different menu? But even if we did move 'Clear direct formatting' to the 'Styles' menu, the Format menu would still be at 24 items. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97467 Heiko Tietze changed: What|Removed |Added Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |INVALID --- Comment #5 from Heiko Tietze --- Clear formatting at the Styles menu wouldn't be the best fit, although it sounds good on the first glance. There have been good a couple of reasons to change the menu. When it has negative bearing on your personal workflow we apologize. But in general the function is not what the average user needs. And as an expert user you can easily modify your menu per Tool > Customize. Please don't understand the objection to your report as ignorance. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 52478] Draw: Zoom slider’s upper limit is excessive for such a tiny control
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52478 --- Comment #5 from Henrik Mantke --- I am working on this bug. The problem is not an exponential. The zoom changes linear with the slider position in two parts. The first part goes from 1% to 100% and occupies the first half of the slider. The second part that occupies the second half of the slider goes from 100% to max zoom. For draw and impress this means 100% to 3000%. Therefore this part has a very high constant slope. In combination with the snapping point, that turns the zoom to 100% again, if you move the slider very little it is impossible to reach zooms between 100% and 200% with the slider. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

That is absolutely > inappropriate. Not sure why moving it from 2 levels deep to 3 levels deep is considered absolutely inappropriate, but here was my reasoning for doing so. 1) Space: There are over the recommended 20 items in the 1st level 2) Consolidation: Grouping all the character level effects under one menu ( Format > Text ) As there are only 12 entries in the Format > Text menu, the 5 entries from the Change Case submenu could be moved up a level. According to the OOo stats, Lowercase and Uppercase are the only entries in the 5 that are highly used, which is why both are now available, but hidden by default, in the formatting toolbar. (In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #2) > As an aside, labeling of tthe .uno commands for changing case do need to be > normalized.
