I was able to reproduce the bug on a two-monitor system, but disabling the second monitor, the bug could no longer be reproduced. b) The bug seems to depend on the distance to the bottom of the screen. It looks like the menu system is aware of the bottom of the screen, but not always aware of the top of the Windows taskbar. How to reproduce (quite similar to Gordo's original list): 1. Use two-monitor Windows system. 2. New Writer document. Maximize to full screen. 3. Make a toolbar active at the bottom, e.g. -F for "find" toolbar. 4. In sidebar, choose "Styles and Formatting". 5. Choose "Character styles" (not-too-long menu) and click on the bottom menu. The menu extends down below the Windows taskbar. 6. If you instead use "Paragraph styles", then the menu is longer, and the menu opens upwards, avoiding problems. See attachment for screenshots. Bug 93466 and bug 100696 seems to be variants of the same problem. My configuration was LO version 5.1.4.2 on Windows 10, two-monitor system, both screens of equal size (1920 x 1080 pixels). Thanks Hi Joel, The OP is referring to running LO headless, as a document converter process instantiated from a Java app. This is a known use of LibreOffice as a "server" process, for example unoconv on Linux can do the same thing. The sudden death syndrome is a known (and to my knowledge, unexplained) failing of LibreOffice when running in this mode. It has been around for as long as I can remember, certainly since OOo days. Previous versions of OOo, and AOO could at least handle several tens (even hundreds) of document conversions before dying. It seems that the URP bridge has become more unstable, or perhaps it requires more memory to be allocated beforehand. The system freezes exactly at that moment and the locale name is unreadable. What's more, when I open a clean libre calc (new document) it opens without problems, but when I go to the language settings where the locale drop-down list appears - it freezes just like when opening csv. An EOF error message would indicate that a problematic file was encountered that the conversion process could not handle. This bug is present in earlier versions of LibreOffice too. I've installed version 5.2.0 to see if it's still present and it is. My graphics chip is AMD KABINI (AMD A6-5200 APU). This bug doesn't show up when OpenGL is enabled, but unfortunately I can't use OpenGL rendering (which is actually much faster) because turning on OpenGL hangs the entire system (probably a bug in AMD Mesa driver).
