textboxMargins.docx: varied margins with no border in DOCX format

see bug 84678 for .docx textbox spacing.

Although this bug report is for all of LibreOffice, I've submitted patches that
only apply to .doc files. I don't intend to try to change the default behaviour
of Writer, but am simply trying to address the compatibility issue.

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/28601 SpacingWithoutBorders compatibility
setting affecting .doc, allowing proper visual display and enabling
round-tripping of .doc.

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/28602 SpacingWithoutBorders: allow UI changes
without borders for .doc files only.

Mark, someone else was having a similar issue recently (bug 101790). A complete
uninstall fixed their issue, it might be worth giving that a try
(while you're at it, you might want to install 5.2.1.2 prerelease version,
which will most likely be the final 5.2.1).

If the copy start point is on a line (in normal layout) above the multi-column

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101850] New: multi-column layout manual break formatting not preserved on cut & paste operation

2016-09-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 101850
Summary: multi-column layout manual break formatting not
preserved on cut & paste operation
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: kaanc...@gmail.com

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:48.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0
Build Identifier: LibreOffice 5.1.4.2

I created a 3-column layout on a selection of text with manual column breaks
and different justification in each column (left, center, right). To save time,
I copied and pasted that section. When I paste, the manual column break
formatting is lost, and the text from each column is rendered in waterfall
pattern (as if carriage returns have been entered).

Eg:
-before paste-

Column-1 Column-2 Column-3

Normal text

-after paste-

Column-1
 Column-2
  Column-3

Normal text

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

1. select portion of document to convert into 3 column layout
2. enter text in first column with left justification then insert manual column
break
3. enter text in second column with center justification then insert manual
column break
4. enter text in third column with right justification
5. add some normal paragraph text just below this multi-column layout (so this
text is in normal, single column layout space)
6. copy and paste all of that
7. notice that the 3-column layout for the pasted portion renders with extra
carriage returns and manual column breaks missing
Actual Results:
Column-1
 Column-2
  Column-3

Normal text

Expected Results:
Column-1 Column-2 Column-3

Normal text

This is not really a regression. In v4.2 PNG images were replaced with SVGs,
and it's the SVG that looks blurry.

These two commits could be starting points:
"Resolves: #i121656# Replaced many gallery base graphics with SVG"

Commit date 2013-06-13 is very close to bibisect results.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101818] Add pasting options similar to Microsoft products

2016-09-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101818

(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #1)
> No, this is silly everything does not have to have Icons.

While that's true in general, in this case I don't agree.
LibreOffice's Paste Special dialog is very powerful, but the many choices are
equally confusing.
Yesterday I tried copying cells from Calc into Writer, these were my options:
-calc8
-GDI metafile
-Bitmap
-HTML (Hypertext Markup Language)
-DDE Link
-Unformatted text
-Formatted text (RTF)

If you're a novice user who tries to put some data inside a table from Calc
into Writer, what do you do?

While I agree that having the option of several choices is good (though I'm not
convinced all of them make a lot of sense in this particular example), having a
basic dialog with the most meaningful choices that are easy to interpret would
be extremely helpful, with the option to switch to the current, "expert"
dialog.

Additionally, I believe LibreOffice's choices don't have the "Merge" option
that is in the suggestion, so the question whether or not that could be useful
to implement is still open.

Sorry, this is the navigation behavior of and arrow on the
LibreOffice canvas--the or does not consider word boundaries.

Use to move to the end of the current line in a paragraph, use to
move to the start of a line. Use + arrow to move word by
word.

+ or + will move between paragraphs.

Ok. So can this be fixed for the Windows OS at least? Tmp folders and System
folders are declared in the system variables and are easy to check. And network
folders start with \\ or http(s). If LO ignores these, at least it will get rid
of links to deleted local tmp files (such as email attachments)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 98560] The followed template "Feature"

2016-09-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98560

--- Comment #18 from max12354678...@gmail.com ---
Where can the "Next Style" property turned of. I have neither found in the
documentation nor by searching through different menus. This is a testimonial
of a not working documentation since this is a key feature in the functionality
of writer.

Also I do not quite understand what you mean by "Conceptual there is no other
way to get a different header/footer then different other page settings"?

There is quite a good explanation by Zenaan Harkness on 2016-08-28 11:42:05
UTC. If you know how to approach this problem please edit the attached file so
each page can have an individual footer whilst preserving page format.

But because the problem is hard to describe the descriptions seem different but
we all mean the same thing.

And I did not ask for user help since:
1. This is an inherent feature and therefore needs the attention of devs
2. As Mr. Harkness did not know to do it either how would anybody who has
no long term experience find this out by him-/herself?

Also please excuse the change of the status but I received no notification of
your previous comment so I changed it back since I thought there was no
explanation for the change. In addition it is best practise to solve a Problem
in the bugtrackers' own system and not e.g. in the forums (But a link might be
sufficient). And there was no clear answer to that yet so the report should not
be closed until answer is given.

Thank you for asking and for you initial response. No i have not
tried to resolve the problem yet. I have also noted that it is starting to
havean effect on other file endings such as the LO M'soft Excell equivalent and
Writer docs that I have saved also with a docx file ending. It also seems worse
where files have been saved within a folder.

That all said, I've used another laptop (wife's) for recent work.I have been
waiting for younger son to come back from annual holiday PLUS grandson as I am
very cautious about carrying out this remedaial task on my own. That'sone of
the penalties of being an ancient senior silver surfer! Another couple of weeks
or so and we should see progress.

Your concern apprecaited and thank you for it! DLL

   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: Mac OS X (All)

Build Identifier: LibreOffice 5.1.4.2

Creating a document and when going back to edit a line I will use the down
arrow on keyboard. Most times it jumps to end of next line but if next line is
longer than current line it jumps straight down instead of end of line. Have
checked non-printing characters to make sure nothing unusual has been
accidentally inserted.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create two or more lines with carriage return at end. Second line must be
longer than first line.
2.Go to end of first line and use down arrow on keyboard.
3.
Actual Results:
Will jump straight down to same position as end of above line.

Expected Results:
Jump down to end of line of second sentence.

this whole report is a mixture of half clear explained continuously changing
wishes and needs in combination with not understand page styles functionality
in Writer.
- Next style property can be turned off.
- Conceptual there is no other way to get a different header/footer then
  - different other page setting
  - different left/right page setting
  - different page styles

Please make an dummy document (drawing that shows clearly how each page looks)
and ask for user help first.
Then if there might be a problem, you are able create a bug with a crisp and
clear explanation of the bug or the enhancement request. Thanks

Sadly both aren't easy to implement. The error dialog is displayed by the file
I/O code, and the start center has no control on it (you can see the same
dialog by running from the terminal "soffice /path/to/non-existent-file"). So I
guess there is no easy way to make it handle recent docs.

Remove the recent doc after the error is much easier to implement, but then
again you'll have some issues. e.g. trying to open password-protected docx (but
not odt), then cancelling the password prompt is also considered as open-error
internally, but we probably don't want to remove the recent entry just because
of that.

I don't think so. The only sane way of solving this is to do the check in
asynchronous way, i.e. check and add the files to the list in the background,
without blocking the UI.

> People with local (offline) office will predominantly work on offline files.
Well, based on the amount of "LO freezes when opening the recent list" reports
in bz, it's not that uncommon for offline office users to access files on the
network. We can't ignore those users.

> In any case checking the local (system) drives where typically the tmp
> folders are located should clean up most of the useless thumbnails.
In Linux there is no "local" and "non-local" drives, as everything is in a
single tree. Even the tmp folder itself might be a network drive.

We should disable those menu entries; better have the truly deleted files

I tend to disagree. I installed an LO 4.x to test the same presentation.
Although it was sluggish at the beginning, I was able to edit the last slide of
my presentation - move around GIF, add text box with text, move it around etc.
It only shows that much higher performance is possible as it was provided by an
older version of LO.

Tested file: "Presentation with multiple animated GIFs causing LO Impress
slowdown"
Tested versions (installed in parallel with identical settings - any hardware
acceleration disabled):

Works quite good, although switching between animated slides in edit mode is
with a delay (it takes time to load image).
Version: 4.4.7.2
Build ID: f3153a8b245191196a4b6b9abd1d0da16eead600

Epic Fail - after some minute of light editing of last slide, LO slowly gets

2016-09-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101846

Bug ID: 101846
   Summary: Spellchecker reacting on hyperlinks
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.1.2.2 release
  Hardware: x86 (IA32)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: trivial
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: alec.zube...@gmail.com

Maybe not quite a bug, but...
The spellchecker keeps underlining separate words in hyperlinks, as if they are
spelling mistakes. Looks strange in 2016. Should the hyperlinks really be
checked for spelling? Turning this feature off for links seems just reasonable.

Believe that's the point of OP, it can't. Internally if the Writer module is
running the WRITER_DOCSERVICE takes precedence over the file extension in
selecting the text filter to open the comma separated value .CSV file (a.k.a
"character" separated value).

With WRITER_DOCSERVICE set (because the call to open comes from a Writer
session) the document is not passed to the Text import filter for opening into
Calc.

Meaning--if you want to open it in Writer, launch Writer and open it
there--regardless of handling for the file extension. Otherwise the file
extension will trigger the text import filter from any other launch scenario.
And why I don't see much need to change anything.

In Microsoft Word you can use page setup to change how a page's content is
justified vertically within the page's boundaries. The options are bottom-up,
top-down, and center.

Libreoffice should be able to do the same...especially if its trying to import
a MS word document having that formatting in it.

OK, its an enhancement... *still* not a bug.

However, discussion/voting on Heiko's survey suggests the action should be

--- Comment #6 from Yousuf Philips (jay) ---
I wanted to file this same issue many times. :D

So i think we need to have a two part solution to this problem, if we want to
remove the deleted files from the list.

1) When LO starts, it should check through the list of recent documents in the
user profile to see which ones are still valid and remove the invalid ones.

2) If a document was valid at startup and deleted during the running of LO,
then after the error dialog appears, it should remove the entry from the list.

Some users may not like this behaviour, as a file could be on an external
source (e.g. flash drive) that was plugged in to access and then when the
external source is no longer plugged in, its entry gets removed from the list.
So lets see what UX thinks.

The alternative solution that puts the user in full control is to modify the
error dialog to have an option to remove the entry from the list.

   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.2.0.4 release

OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal

 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: mkamp...@zahav.net.il

I installed 5.2 release on several machines

2 windows 10 OS
and one windows 7

Each machines has different hardware
But this is not a hardware issue as it occurs a different machines

I had 2 major bugs

1) Every few seconds a major lapse in response time causing the system to
freeze for about 30-60 seconds

It feels like a memory problem. Increasing the virtual memory helps slightly.

2) I almost exclusively write in Hebrew. Since the 5.2 update the arrows keys
have switched directions. If I press < the cursor will move right (in Hebrew)
and if I press > the cursor will move left.

This seems to certainly be a bug because I have since reverted to 5.15 and
essentially no problems

BTW I had already removed the registrymodifications.xcu to force its
recontruction. That had solved a previous bug (long response time) but the 5/2
has created its own problems as described - on several machines

"Enhancement" might be better. The user can add a table template via
"Autoformat Styles" and then use this in all of his documents. If he assigns
this template, it is listed in the new tab "Tables" in the Style
window and he can use it from there for the next table in the same document.

If the user opens a file which has a table template created by someone else, he
sees it in the Style window, but the user does not know, how to make
it available for a different document. For true styles like paragraph or
character styles, you can load the styles from an existing document to make
them available in your new document. But that does not work for the table
"style".

There should be something like "Add table template to personal table template
collection." or the load style mechanism can be extended to table templates.

Yes, but the issue is that the dialog does not expose its section names to
Assistive Technology--the "Enter Template Name" field and the "Select Template
Category" do not sound when entering the dialog. Using mouse cursor once can
*scrape* the detail from the dialog, but it is preferred/required that the
dialog fields be fully instrumented to allow simple keyboard navigation.

Tested with NVDA 2016.2.1 on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit en-US the dialog field
labeling is not correct in 5.2.1 nor in current master/5.3.0

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101116] TEMPLATE MANAGER: managed template form fields are not correctly exposed to assistive technologies

2016-09-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101116

(In reply to Jean-Philippe MENGUAL from comment #3)
> Hi,
Hi Jean-Philippe and all

> Has the patch fixed this bug?
Thank you very much to the developer. The patches resolve the following
issue :
- The place holder text "search" is now correctly sent
- The push button "settings" is correctly labeled

The remaining issues are :
- All buttons are exposed as "push button". A "push button" is for a
blind user a button which opens a contextual menu. As I understood,
only the "settings" button should be a "push button"
- The settings push button doesn't allow to use enter key or space
bar to activate it. It's not logic for blind or partially sighted people to
press down arrow key to activate a push button.
- The two lists to filter the content are not bound to a label, so
It's not understandable at first time. The lists should be inside a
panel named "filter" or something like that.

Best regards,
Alex.

On the danger of causing more rampage:

poft: please keep in mind that currently there are over 10k confirmed bugs for
LO. The change you are seeing one of those if fairly high.

But the only way to improve this situation is fix bugs and that can only be
done one bug at a time. Which is why there is the rule to post one bug per
issue. And that makes sense since otherwise things get out of hand much too
quickly.

So I suggest to follow the described general debugging steps (reset user
profile) etc and if any issues persist after that, file new bugs. And when
doing that, please:

* post exact reproduce steps
* post a sample document with which you are seeing the problem (should the
problem be related to a document)
* provide as much info as possible

Random rampage will neither help you nor the devs.

Closing this as invalid. Since violating the one bug per issue rule.

>From the tone of your initial report I take your frustration level is on 10
already. So if you do not want to go through this process, you don't have to of
course. But again, keep in mind that that's the only way to improve status quo
and make a better office suite for other humans to follow.

And I can assure you one last thing: I have been following LO QA for a few
years now and got into that stressful time consuming occupation out of the same
frustration you are in. And things have improved a lot. Just recently a lot of
regressions have been fixed. The regression count went down from ~760 to 634
atm. This is a huge accomplishment but if you are not involved it may look like
nothing is happening behind the scenes.

Have a nice day,
-_-

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 100777] Inconsistent "Smart Cursor" action when navigating or selecting paragraphs

2016-09-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100777

(In reply to Cor Nouws from comment #14)

> I can't understand why a different behavior with different key combination
> is inconsistency.

Hello,

Here's the way I view this. The current behavior is not analogous to other
behavior internal to LO. For instance, if I use the Left key, the cursor goes
back one character. If I overlay the Shift key to that action, I Select back
one character. If I use Ctrl-Left, the same dynamic holds true with regard to
whole words. The Shift key acts as an overlay to an existing action, adding the
Selection function.

The same is true of the Up arrow. It will take you up one line. And when the
Shift key is added, it will Select up one line.

All these dynamics hold true for the Right and Down keys as well. Adding the
Shift key simply adds the Select function to the existing underlying function.

This holds true when adding the Ctrl key to the Down action- the action is
shifted to the paragraph level, but remains consistent. The only thing that
changes is the Selection function is added with the Shift key.

But there is one glaring exception - the Ctrl-Up function is not analogous to
the Ctrl-Shift-Up function. Adding the Shift key not only adds the Selection
function, it changes the basic underlying action.

But in this case, adding the Shift key brings the Ctrl-Up action back into
conformity to all the other functions listed here. It is the underlying action
- Ctrl-Up - that for some reason violates the rule of every other related
navigation within LO.

I expect the Shift key merely to add the Select function. Here it doesn't,
because it is correct, but the underlying action has, IME, been inconsistently
designed.
