First, you may clean your LO directory profile (since you first installed
5.2.1)
See https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Windows

Then, have in mind that LO 64 bits needs Java 64 bits, LO 32 bits needs Java 32
bits.

If it still crashes, it could be interesting to retrieve a backtrace, see
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport/Debug_Information#Windows:_How_to_get_a_backtrace

I am using since years very heavily the drawing feature with varying formats
(portrait and landscape, A4 - A3 - A2). Now the feature 'format page' is
completely missing. This would mean I have to give up libre office completely.
What kind of Human-Machine Interaction philosophy is this?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 62603] Find/Replace affects formatting in undesired ways

2016-09-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62603

Thanks, Justin - it's especially valuable to know it happens for non-regex uses
too! That means I'd just been lucky so far in those few cases I used it for a
simple text replacement - because such strings tend to have far fewer matches,
and usually of whole words with a space or punctuation character alongside I
suppose.

I still dare not use Replace All, as it does too much damage to my novel(s). I
will be *so* glad when this bug is finally fixed!

Bug ID: 102035
Summary: When attempting to change a non-standard font, the
system goes hangs for 2~3 minutes
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.1.4.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal

 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org

Hello, I had been doing copy and paste from a website
(http://www.babas.com.my/index.php/business/product-sweets) into Tables (2 x
3). I copied and pasted the title (Masala Mix..Sweet) to the top left hand of
the Table. The font of the title from the website was Montserrat;sans-serif and
size 26.2. I wished to change the font of the title to Bitstream Vera Sans and
size 24.

When I selected the Title (sometimes single word, sometimes double word),
LibreOffice became "hang", cursor goes missing, after sometime (2~3 minutes)
the cursor re-appears but when I click on the menu (File, Edit, View... Help),
the menu box drops down but it's blank.

I managed to repeat this couple of times.

Version: 5.1.4.2
Build ID: 1:5.1.4-0ubuntu1
CPU Threads: 8; OS Version: Linux 4.4; UI Render: default;
Locale: en-GB (en_US.UTF-8)

thanks.

I was thinking it might be GTK3-related, but not getting it with the
GTK3-enabled v5.1.4.2 included in Ubuntu 16.04, either.

Thank you for the details and traces.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 101400] LO on Linux will not open SMB/CIFS hosted remote computer' s file after recent updates

2016-09-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101400

Alex:

I finally took a moment and uninstalled LO, then installed from TDF. The
problem is GONE.

Before we assume the PPA LO install is at fault, I would mention that I made
another change today -- this to the Linux boot process. I recently discovered a
FAIL during boot load of SMB/CIFS. During research, I found that this was a
default not needed for STANDALONE server installs.

I created the file "samba-ad-dc.override" with "manual" as its content. The
FAIL during boot disappeared.

I'll leave it to the experts here to conjecture whether one or both of my
actions fixed the problem. My personal opinion is that the PPA install of LO
was the problem.

In any event, thanks for your help. To make sure I don't mess up the reporting
system, I'll leave it to you to mark the status "RESOLVED."

Take care,

So if you open writer with a new profile, the sidebar is collapsed and only
shows the tab bar and when you access the sidebar with F6, it gives focus to
the title bar but wont mention that the sidebar deck is closed. So if a user
arrives at the sidebar with the deck closed, it should mention that it is
closed and should let the user open the deck by press spacebar or enter similar
to a regular button.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 102029] New: Severe crashcausing bugs last versions LibreOffice ( 5.1.5 and 5.2)

2016-09-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102029

Bug ID: 102029
Summary: Severe crashcausing bugs last versions LibreOffice
(5.1.5 and 5.2)
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: bas_gomm...@hotmail.com

I tried out both versions of LibreOffice on a PC which had just a clean install
of W7. No previous installation of LibreOffice or anything it could conflict
with.
For both versions I tried to open Writer. During the first attempt (no restart)
it wouldn't even open and Windows gave an error (without mentioning any cause),
for every attempt after that it would crash after immediately after closing it.
Windows gave an error report that the program crashed.

I first tried out version 5.2 , after getting these bugs I uninstalled it, I
cleaned the register with CCleaner (just to make sure) and I installeed version
5.1.5.
Again the same bugs: during the first start it wouldn't even open, during the
second start it would crash after closing. I also uninstalled version 5.1.5.
For the last version (5.1.5.) I tried it again after restarting the computer,
just to make sure, no difference.

While searching for it I noticed that many people have stability problems with
these versions of LibreOffice, on their computers it seems (to them, they can't
detect any pattern) to crash at random.
Needless to say that I can't trust the stability of 5.1 and 5.2 for now. I will
try out the very first verision of 5 (I expect that one also to crash) and
otherwise the most stable version of 4. Too bad. I like the GUI improvements.

Further Data on my computer: i5-750, 8 GB DDR3 @1300 MHz 9-9-9-12 , HD 7850,
plenty of free space on the hard drive. With other words, it isn't my hardware
which is to blame, even though it is a bit old by now.

Hi Wiebe, Bruce,

for what it's worth: some weeks ago I've done the suggestion at the design
team:
"idea for nice UX-job: handling of wrapping of images/object in Writer: easy
or/preferred use; competitive analysis; compatibility.."

That may lead to the information needed to make choices.
For the time being, I would set to NeedInfo.
With due respect to you guys, I seriously cannot expect that in the current
state a developer would have a clear idea of what to do.

wrt anchoring and wrapping: would it be an idea to conclude that after more
investigation wrt interoperability?
It's not per see sure that 'just' having the same default value as another
application, makes interoperability better.
Then we can keep this issue for that and use another for spacing..

Wiebe van der Worp changed:

--- Comment #7 from Wiebe van der Worp ---
I really do pity that that this described bug is not solved after so many
years. By writing this, I hope it helps getting the attention it needs.

This text describes a bug in LibreOffice Writer (and OpenOffice), concerning
stopping re-paginating before a proper - intended - layout is generated.

This bug concerns all users. More specific, it concerns all users that write
longer documents with objects like images where text flow is not set to "no
wrap".

As suggested, a general accepted work around is to omit text flowing around
objects. This can be achieved by anchoring objects "as character" while setting
wrapping to "no wrap". This way very large documents can be generated, such as
the official LibreOffice documentation.

This solution has three major drawbacks: First, it is impossible to optimize
layouts, create richer and more reader friendly layouts. Second, because of the
introduced white spaces left and or right from the object, it costs a lot more
paper when printing documents with this work around. Third, settings like
anchoring as character and no wrapping are not default settings, making users
run into problems unexpected, without them having a clue why their document is
screwed up.

When normal documents with objects grow in time, there is a point where the
background re-paginating process stops unexpected without finishing rearranging
the layout. At this point, Tools > Update... doesn't work, while the menu pull
down item remains visible, suggesting an unfinished re-paginating process. When
the document is saved, closed and opened, the layout is properly restored in
most cases. However, when the document grows further, there is a point in time
where the layout of the document is permanently broken. Without the knowledge
of the workarounds - and even with this knowledge - it chases power users away
from LibreOffice.

Typical symptoms of this bug are initial well re-paginated pages, followed by
blanc pages and or blanc parts of pages.

This bug is easy to reproduce, simply by adding text and objects in a default
way to a default document.

There seem to be much noise around this subject. One of them is the use of too
large bitmap objects. Another one that may be, or not, is this one:
media.vanderworp.org/.dot/.lo/test_s03e24.odt. This may be related, I don't
know. Main thing is that the focus should be on re-paginating of larger
documents. A small twenty page text-document with objects in the form of
complete empty frames is enough to illustrate the problem. For example, if a
TOC is added at page 1 and two heading levels are used, then editing and
updating the TOC, toggling between 1 and 2 levels will let re-paginating go
south.

In large documents, such as instruction manuals or educational works, like the
official LibreOffice manuals , it is highly desirable that objects, such as
pictures and quotes, are an integrated part of the text components. This bug
makes that integration impossible.

I have some test documents that illustrate the problems.
media.vanderworp.org/.dot/.lo/test_s02e15.odt is an example for creating
re-paginating errors. If I can be of further assistance, let me know. On the
global users mailing list there are multiple threads about the subject.

When the table is at the top of the page, yes, but not in another situation.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 51689] EDITING: Additional possibility (apart from Alt+Enter) to insert paragraphs before and after sections, tables and indexes

I seem confused with the description as i just tested this.

1) Open writer
2) Insert a table
3) Use down key to exit the table
4) Press delete to delete the paragraph after the table
5) Press down and the paragraph is still there

So is there ever a situation when you cant go below the table?

With regards to adding a paragraph above a table, all you have to do is to go
the beginning of cell A1 of the table and press enter and it will add a
paragraph above the table.

I've used TOCs and never saw the point of having to manually refresh it, i
would compare it to creating a chart and then manually telling it to refresh it
after i changed some of the values associated to it.

So i'd suggest that the TOC be automatically refreshed without user prompt when
a document is saved and before the launch of the print dialog.

--- Comment #3 from Yousuf Philips (jay) ---
So once you reach the sidebar with F6, you can press the arrow keys to jump
between the deck title bar, content panel titles, and the tab bar buttons. Once
you are selected on a content panel title, you can press tab to jump into the
content panel, but without the content panel title, there isnt a means to reach
the contents.

The most ideal thing is that once focus is reached with the deck title bar, the
tab button should jump through the entire deck's content in a similar way to
jumping through the contents of a tab in a dialog.

Would be useful to use 1/8 (0.13) inches as that is one of the presets in the
spacing drop down list in the sidebar and the default used in MS Word and
Google Docs. This likely can be considered a duplicate of bug 87720.

Bug ID: 102026
Summary: "Prop Res DLL not loaded." on FILEOPEN or change
properties.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.1.5.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org

"Prop Res DLL not loaded" alert message box

Using the latest version of Libre Office (and I just confirmned it on 5.1.5.2),
when I FILEOPEN a spreadsheet, or try to change properties in a Text document,
I get several errors (4 or 8, typically), each requiring a click to close the
message box. (See attached file for a screen capture). The message is always
"Prop Res DLL not loaded." Things seem to work Okay once I get past the 4 or 8
alerts, but it's a bad symptom.

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today, I don't reproduce the

Could you try with a newer LO version?

Also, you may try last stable LO version 5.1.5 or 5.2.1 ?

This is concerning only screenreaders and will probably never show in the UI as

Application Sidebar is the most descriptive and understandable term I +1 that.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 102023] New: libreoffice crashes on odt file if libreoffice-writer is not installed

2016-09-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102023

Bug ID: 102023
Summary: libreoffice crashes on odt file if libreoffice-writer
is not installed
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.2.0.4 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: 2016_libreoffice_bugzi...@matthias.fastmail.fm

On a debian system where the 'libreoffice-writer' package has been removed but
the rest of libreoffice remains, attempting to open a .odt file from the
command line like this

   libreoffice my_valid_document.odt

causes libreoffice to say

   LibreOffice Document Recovery

Due to an unexpected error, LibreOffice crashed. All the files you were
working
on will now be saved. The next time LibreOffice is launched, your files will
be
   recovered automatically.

I expected libreoffice to (a) not crash and (b) say something along the lines
of "can't open that file because the 'writer' component isn't installed".

Originally filed as Debian bug 837156, the maintainer there asked me to report
it upstream.
