[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 106918] Sections with two columns have to be deleted then un-deleted to display correctly
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106918 --- Comment #3 from r...@fael.lv --- I came to file a bug about what I think is the same issue described by @ammine007. Because I have a much more complex document, it might be related to a different bug, or many different bugs, previously reported here or no. I'll try to be objective, but have in mind this could come from more than one source. I am submitting the document where you can verify the issues related. The document is my original (no problem with that), with the images compressed into oblivion, turning a 15mb document into 650kb. Writer Versions: I've been verifying this problem for several months, or ever since I started writing a large document (from at least June 2016). Now I am on 5.2.6.2, problem can still be verified. Also have in mind, I am using Writer in pt-br, which makes it a little harder for me to tell you the english names of options, but I try. Context: I have a two-column document with several pages (200+), and in some pages I change it to one-column (for chapter titles), then two-column again. It also has pictures, tables, boxes, alphabetical index, summary, empty pages, etc. Issues: - Position of elements (sections, tables, pictures with certain alignments) changes randomly. Sections that should be tightly together break to a new page, then while editing a section several pages further into the document, they tie together again. - If I preview print, position of sections and pictures change, number of pages change. - If I update alphabetical index, many things change positions, if then I update the opening index of titles, things go to another different position. - If I go to Format > Columns and change the setting "Distribute content evenly across columns", nothing changes, until I insert a line break in the end of a section, but after a while it displays differently at random. For example, I tell it to distribute evenly, so it should display the columns on the last page of that section roughly of the same size, leaving some space for the next section in the same page. Instead, it fills left column all the way to the end of the page and leave right column with only a few words, mostly empty, next section is sent to the next page. Inserting a line break sometimes fixes that, but it goes back to wrong when I update indexes. - When I open the document, page count is always wrong. Right now document submitted has 200 pages, but when I open it it says 203. - Here's the worst part. If I go to Tools > Update > All, everything goes to its right place... except the opening index (the one that is dinamically updated by adding titles) gets page numbers wrong by 1 or 2 over the course of the document. If I then update again only that index, the document changes enough to break (positions go wrong again), but that index then gets the pages right though. It doesn't help, because it's the right page numbers with elements messed in the wrong positions. How to verify issues: - Open document attached. Note page count. - Go to Tools > Update > All. Note page count change. It is now the right page count. - Check the index in the last 3-4 pages, test if it gets one or two references right. That index is always right in my tests, at least right after the update. - Check the index in page 3. Page numbers will be off by 1 or 2 pages from page 50 on, give or take. The last title which is the alphabetical index from page 197 is marked as being in page 199. If you update this wrong index isolatedly, it messes the document's total page count, messes positions of sections at random, but gets the page numbers right (from a messed document). Workaround tried: I thought this could be a memory issue because it's a slightly large document (it's 15mb, but I noticed this happens since around 5mb). I changed memory limits in Preferences to larger and larger numbers. That did nothing that I could notice. Workaround: Tools > Update > Update All does fix the document as intended, except for the index in page 3, the one that is dinamically created by titles in the document. So it's an incomplete workaround. Workaround not tried: OP @ammine007 suggested that deleting and undeleting sections makes them behave correctly. That is impractical, obviously. I have many times inserted and deleted line breaks before sections and that had a similar effect of pulling the following section to its right place, but that is impractical in the same amount. If I do that over the whole document, when I update the indexes everything gets messed up again. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107298 --- Comment #8 from Buovjaga --- (In reply to Mike from comment #7) > Regarding (2), all three option labels should be changed. (a) After looking > at this first option for two days, it's finally occurred to me that the word > "moving" in the first option has nothing to do with moving--it has to do > with resizing. So this label must change. It does affect moving: it limits the moving to x, y or 45 degrees (diagonally). Meaning it grabs the direction where you first start dragging the object and locks it to that axis. Then you have to more pronouncedly move it to a different direction to make it switch the locking. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107298] Snap option "When creating or moving objects" is mis-labeled in Draw
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107298 --- Comment #7 from Mike --- Replacing "Snap" with "Constrain" an excellent start. But it could be so much better because (1) while "constrain transformations" indicates that something will be constrained, but not how, which is equally important. Perhaps more! (2) There are other wording troubles with the options. Regarding (1), even after you proposed a new group name, I had to test the options to understand what they actually do, which can be a problem in two scenarios. (a) If you're looking at the options cold as an inexperienced user looking for awesome custom tweaks, it's not clear what the options do because "constraints" is not specific enough. And (b), in the use case where the user is drawing squares when they want rectangles, they'll browse the options looking for something that obviously relates. "Constraints" is a clue, and "creating" is also a clue. But why compel the user to interpret clues when we can make the meaning obvious with a few extra words? Regarding (2), all three option labels should be changed. (a) After looking at this first option for two days, it's finally occurred to me that the word "moving" in the first option has nothing to do with moving--it has to do with resizing. So this label must change. (b) Extend edges. (The most difficult feature to understand.) Unless I misunderstand, this is actually a sub-option of the first option WHEN the first option is select. Is that correct? If so, the option should only be enabled when the first option is selected, and the control should be re-positioned to make the relationship between the two controls obvious. The existing wording, too, may as well read "ham sandwich" for all it conveys to the user :-) Even after reading the Help, I had to play with the option for several minutes to figure out what it does. Crafting an alternative label for this will be difficult. I have a suggestion below, but you could come up with something better. (c) The angle values strongly imply what the third option does. Still, we can differentiate the the _type_ of constraint by replacing a single word. So, in light of all this, I counter-propose the following, and |_| is my way of indicating a checkbox: Transformation Constraints |_| Fix proportions when creating or resizing object |_| Reference furthest mouse position |_| Snap rotations Point reduction If the online documentation is accurate, and the sub-option only applies when "creating" an object, then the first option should logically be split into two: Transformation Constraints |_| Fix proportions when creating object |_| Reference furthest mouse position |_| Fix proportions when resizing object |_| Snap rotations Point reduction I realize this is a lot to digest, so thanks for considering what I'm saying. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107369] Enhancement to Calc function SUBSTITUTE
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107369 Eike Rathke changed: What|Removed |Added CC||er...@redhat.com --- Comment #5 from Eike Rathke --- This is nothing for SUBSTITUTE as SUBSTITUTE is defined to take scalar values as arguments, which is implemented by various spreadsheet applications, and thus in array context already acts differently than what you propose. It could be only implemented as a new function. I'm not sure I understand the use case though. You want an array (or range reference for that matter) of SearchText be searched subsequently in Text from position Occurrence, and then for a match replace it with the corresponding element of NewText and then continue with the next SearchText from the same Occurrence position (or even a different one if Occurrence was a range/array as well) and the result should be a single text string, not an array? https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107508 Bug ID: 107508 Summary: XY Chart auto scaling on X axis with only 1 data point generates excessive number of major units Product: LibreOffice Version: 5.2.6.2 release Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Linux (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Chart Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: jr87...@gmx.com Description: Axis auto scaling with only 1 data point is not really possible, so sensible defaults need to be applied. The defaults generated by auto-scaling an XY scatter chart axis span too large a range, with a large number of major units on the scale. On a date scale, the maximum can be several centuries ahead. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a Calc spreadsheet, with two columns and 1 date in Col A and 1 value in Col B. 2. Insert XY Chart (using the wizard, or manually configured so that X = Col A and Y = Col B with auto-scaling) and observe the X-axis. 3. Copy the date into the value cell and observe the Y-axis with the same issue (but with a different range). Actual Results: Large number of major units on the scale. If these are dates, the maximum can be several centuries ahead. Expected Results: 1. Axis comprising 1 or 2 major scale unit(s). or 2. No scale on the axis, just a single axis label (as in Line or Bar Chart with a single data point). Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: This matters when using Chart with Grouped data, for example in database reports, to produce a series of XY scatter charts with different X-axis ranges for which auto-scaling would be ideal when the scale can't be preset. However, if a data group has only 1 data point, the auto-scale'd result is completely out of line with the other charts (and the chart looks ridiculous). AFAIK Other proprietary Office packages do one of Expected Results above. Simple Calc file singlepointtest.ods attached to demonstrate the issue. If I print with other programs (e.g. Adobe Acrobat) printing is no problem. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
