[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 34133] Add ability to automatically compress and resize images
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34133 --- Comment #60 from Joey Reid--- (In reply to Tomaz Vajngerl from comment #59) > You know that you should run image compression manually Well, I know I want it on the version I want to share, but not on my master or working document. > but not every user > knows this, cares, forgets to run. In bigger institutions this makes > administrators mad Again, maybe I'm not being clear. What is the advantage to compressing and resizing at insert time, rather they save time? I have no issue with setting sane defaults for compressing and resizing(especially if they can be turned off). For example, let’s say my system is set to 96 dpi. I create a new document without thinking about this. Insert time change, will not be recoverable. I will have to start from scratch. However, if this is handled at save time, I can change the document settings and no data will be lost as long a I remember before saving. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107740 --- Comment #5 from Ben--- Regina, Thank you for diagnosing this. I'm glad that not all of the document is like this. The appendix material is a remnant from an MS Word document I converted several years ago to OpenOffice/LibreOffice. The format change corrects the issues. Setting the "spacing to content" to zero also makes it look better. However, when I add space in the text before and after the formula, I sometimes see a squiggly line appear (see attachment). What does this indicate? In the whole document, I have 0.1mm front and back space to the formulas added. Manual removal will be too much of an effort. I will ask on the mailing list but any suggestions from you would be useful. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 104197] Spell Checker in Calc defaults to US even though locale is en-gb
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104197 Justin Lchanged: What|Removed |Added Priority|medium |low --- Comment #3 from Justin L --- The most proper place to "set" the language for a specific document is the default style - font tab. I'm not familiar with Calc/spelling code, but from what I can see, spell checking works on a per sentence basis, picking up the language from the character/paragraph/cell properties. In Calc, this would general mean that each cell is checked independently, and most likely the language is defined in the default style. When you "change" the language in the spelling dialog, it changes it for that one word, and then (assuming it is no longer considered to be a spelling error) moves to the next sentence where it again switches to the "default style" language for that sentence. Writer acts similarly. Switching the dictionary language using the spell checker jumps over that word and moves to the next error. The difference is that in Writer, the character language property for the misspelled word is actually changed. That doesn't seem to happen in Calc. So to deal specifically with OP's complaints. 1.) LO has a separate property to set the default language (likely defaulting to your OS system locale, and unaffected by changes made to LibreOffice's locale setting.) I would not consider this a bug - just something the user needs to learn. 2.) Hopefully my description above explains why this happened. Although I agree that in the Calc context, this doesn't fit as well, I wouldn't consider it to be a bug either. The only bug I see here is that Calc doesn't permanently change the language properties of the "misspelled" word when the spelling dialog changes it - I would consider that to be pretty minor in Calc. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

No, you are mistaken. The mini toolbar is for all intents and purposes a CONTEXT MENU. It's context sensitive, it shows up when the user right clicks, and it requires little mouse movement to reach. These are all qualities of context menus. You not including ALL the functions offered by Word after a right-click, made your comparison unfair. You made it easier to justify removing items that should not have been removed. I appreciate your effort to clean up the context menu, but for heavy context menu users like me, you have gone too far. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107740] Writer formatting of inline formulas is erroneous
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107740 Regina Henschelchanged: What|Removed |Added Status|UNCONFIRMED |NEEDINFO CC||rb.hensc...@t-online.de Ever confirmed|0 |1 --- Comment #4 from Regina Henschel --- Most of the formulas do not use the frame style "Formula" but the frame style "OLE". The frame style "OLE" includes an "anchor to paragraph", frame style "Formula" has an "anchor as char". To get an "anchor as char" the formulas have got a direct formating via object properties. But not only the anchor was set, but the padding (=spacing to content) was set to a non-zero value in tab border. In 5.2 that did not matter, because the objects have no border. But in the meantime LibreOffice honors a padding without border, as it should be. The padding does not increase the box of the formula (similar to the green handles), but the padding reduces the place for the content. So you see a tiny content. You have to repair the document. Set all formulas to style "Formula" and set the "spacing to content" to zero for each formula. Your document seems to be very large, so you need a way to do it automatically. You can write a macro for this task or you can edit the styles manually in the file source. If you need assistance, please ask on mailing list or forum. Another question is, why the formulas have got the wrong style. (In reply to Joey Reid from comment #49) > I’m a little late the party here because I just upgraded to 5.2. While I > understand the arguments for cleaning up the context menu. You have gone too > far. After the upgrade, I find myself spending much more time digging > through menus. And worse yet, sometimes I have to Google features that were > once available in the context menu. Whatever features that were removed from the context menu in that bug report are available in formatting toolbar, so no need to go into the menus for them. > You have gone too far by removing features that are context sensitive. These > add no cutter because they were hidden except for when they are usable. I'm assuming the removed features you are talking about are the Text option for shapes and textboxes, or are there more? > All your analytics may show that a feature is only used .01% of the time. > But if you are one of those people that use the feature 100+ times in a > single document like I do Bug 107635, these stats are meaningless. For the .01% of users who require a feature to easily be available in the context menu, they have the ability to modify the context menu to their liking, just like we offer the same ability for toolbar and menus. We have to optimize all UI (toolbars, menus, context menus, etc) for the largest user base or else the UI will be worthless to all users. > I'm sure your stats are from basic non-professional users. The stats were gathered for a month from thousands of users of all proficiency levels who used OOo 3.1 in 2009. > Also, you are comparing Apples to Oranges with Word. LibreOffice lacks Word’s > mini popup toolbar that appears when you select text. Nope it wasnt an Apples to Oranges comparison with Word, as Word's mini popup toolbar isnt a context menu and it was created due a limitation in the Ribbon UI, that you could be on a Ribbon tab and have to switch back to the Home tab every time you had to access basic text formatting features. > MS Word only stripped down their context menu AFTER introducing the mini > popup toolbar. By copying their context menu without the toolbar, you have > just cause the UI to take a major step backwards. Completely false as the context menu in MS word has always been condensed. Here is Word 2003's (pre-mini popup toolbar) default context menu < http://www.worldlingo.com/en/images/xp1.gif >. Also we arent copying MS Word's context menu, as I analyzed the context menus of many competing office suites when i did the reorganization. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

(In reply to Andreas B. from comment #9) > But you have to click exactly on the Text, and it's only working if you have > no Spelling errors in the Text. You can right-click anywhere within the available text and if all have spelling errors, you can still right-click next to a space (you have to do the same if you dont want the spelling context menu in the main document). > In my opinion I would like to have the text menu on the shape if there is a > text inside. Filed a enhancement bug for the creation of the UNO command (bug 107753). > Maybe this is a topic for the User Interface Team?
