Worse - with the document from i#23187, the mbLayoutInProgress was set

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 34133] Add ability to automatically compress and resize images

2017-05-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34133

(In reply to Tomaz Vajngerl from comment #59)
> You know that you should run image compression manually

Well, I know I want it on the version I want to share, but not on my master or
working document.

> but not every user
> knows this, cares, forgets to run. In bigger institutions this makes
> administrators mad

Again, maybe I'm not being clear. What is the advantage to compressing and
resizing at insert time, rather they save time?

I have no issue with setting sane defaults for compressing and
resizing(especially if they can be turned off). For example, let’s say my
system is set to 96 dpi. I create a new document without thinking about this.
Insert time change, will not be recoverable. I will have to start from scratch.
However, if this is handled at save time, I can change the document settings
and no data will be lost as long a I remember before saving.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 81902] UI: Navigator-window should be not floating but fixed on left side

2017-05-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon

I completely agree with what the guy of [this
video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr-xym_NGpI) say: having the navigator
docked by default (and even enabled by default like in Google Docs!) is really
a great feature and one of the most unknown. Even the Ctrl+Shift+F10 shortcut
is pretty unknown.

Probably this goes in the same direction as bug #103030 and [Design Team][1]
guidelines.

Working on debian-stretch in the daily Linux dbgutil bibisect
repository, I see that the bug started somewhere in the 8 commits ...

bad b8d9ccca 2017-04-28 74ccd02e

For this work, I deemed the version bad equally whether the sans-serif
font shows on the first or on the second data-to-fields.

I am removing keyword bibisectRequest and adding bibisected.

Ah! Many thanks. I see that I needed to set the page number to 0, not 1.

I had convinced myself that the completely-consistent headers were correct (in
contrast to bug 103078): in fact, they were consistently reversed.

My new clean template is my attempt to work around bug 103078, as outlined
there.
Thanks to your explanation of what Writer was doing, I have now fixed my new
clean template (and the MS using it).

Many thanks, I really appreciate your help.

The "squiggly line" belongs to the grammar check. The grammar check ignores
formulas and therefore sees two spaces, which would be not correct.

We do not want support topics in Bugzilla, therefore please use mailing list or
forum. Nevertheless, the document ContainsFormulaTools.odt in
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/80285/easy-way-to-change-fonts-of-all-mathematical-formulas-ole/
might help you to see, how macros on formulas basically work.

"from an MS Word document I converted several years ago". That is likely the
reason for the problem. The import filter from MS Word have been improved
notable in the last years, and in a current version such problem should no
longer occur. In case you get problems in converting from MS Word with a
current version of LibreOffice, please file a new bug report and attach the
source document.

I will close this issue as "Notabug", because the problems are errors in the
document itself and the situation, which produces the error in the document,
can no longer be reproduced.

You know that you should run image compression manually, but not every user
knows this, cares, forgets to run. In bigger institutions this makes
administrators mad, because bigger than necessary documents are flying around
the mail system and need to be stored or even more problematic - backed up
daily.

Confirm the apparent non-function of the "Use anti-alaising" checkbox.

Believe this is all wrapped up in Windows font rendering issues of bug 106990

Font rendering has all shifted to DirectWrite, and OpenGL rendering matches
Default GPU/CPU rendering, but quality of the font rendering is rough--so UI
does not seem to respond to the "Use anti-alaising"

M. Meeks thinks a change to CLEARTYPE_QUALITY rather than DEFAULT_QUALITY may
help with the font rendering to UI and to document canvas--if not a more
complete rework of the DirectWrite rendering on Windows builds becomes more
important (bug 107521)

Regina,

Thank you for diagnosing this. I'm glad that not all of the document is like
this. The appendix material is a remnant from an MS Word document I converted
several years ago to OpenOffice/LibreOffice. The format change corrects the
issues. Setting the "spacing to content" to zero also makes it look better.
However, when I add space in the text before and after the formula, I sometimes
see a squiggly line appear (see attachment). What does this indicate?

In the whole document, I have 0.1mm front and back space to the formulas added.
Manual removal will be too much of an effort. I will ask on the mailing list
but any suggestions from you would be useful.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107761] New: WindowsServer memory increase when using Calc

2017-05-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107761

Bug ID: 107761
Summary: WindowsServer memory increase when using Calc
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.0.5.2 release
  Hardware: x86 (IA32)
OS: Mac OS X (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: d...@leding.net

After opening LibreOffice, the WindowServer process memory usage is typically
around 400-500 MB. After 1-3 days using Calc, the memory will slowly rise to
beyond 10GB thereby slowing down much of the graphics response, desktop
changes, etc. Application response time is also affected presumably due to the
graphics engine being tied up managing the WindowServer.

No crash or error messages are observed. However, there is one log message
that persists:

▼▼▼ LOG MESSAGE ▼▼▼

5/9/17 10:25:14.354 PM WindowServer[145]: [cps/setfront] Failed setting the
front application to LibreOffice, psn 0x0-0x39a69a3, securitySessionID=0x186a4,
err=-13066

▲▲▲ LOG MESSAGE ▲▲▲

Also, I know there is another WindowServer memory leak defect (107021) however
that involves the Writer component performing a mail merge while my defect
involves Calc and performing nothing terribly spectactular - just working with
relatively small spreadsheets (2-3 open concurrently) with no more than 6
sheets per spreadsheet.

While the earliest version observed to 5.0.0.2, I also tested this in 5.2.7.2
and the issue persists.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 104197] Spell Checker in Calc defaults to US even though locale is en-gb

2017-05-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104197

Justin L changed:

   What|Removed |Added

   Priority|medium |low

The most proper place to "set" the language for a specific document is the
default style - font tab.

I'm not familiar with Calc/spelling code, but from what I can see, spell
checking works on a per sentence basis, picking up the language from the
character/paragraph/cell properties. In Calc, this would general mean that
each cell is checked independently, and most likely the language is defined in
the default style.

When you "change" the language in the spelling dialog, it changes it for that
one word, and then (assuming it is no longer considered to be a spelling error)
moves to the next sentence where it again switches to the "default style"
language for that sentence.

Writer acts similarly. Switching the dictionary language using the spell
checker jumps over that word and moves to the next error. The difference is
that in Writer, the character language property for the misspelled word is
actually changed. That doesn't seem to happen in Calc.

So to deal specifically with OP's complaints.
1.) LO has a separate property to set the default language (likely defaulting
to your OS system locale, and unaffected by changes made to LibreOffice's
locale setting.) I would not consider this a bug - just something the user
needs to learn.
2.) Hopefully my description above explains why this happened. Although I agree
that in the Calc context, this doesn't fit as well, I wouldn't consider it to
be a bug either.

The only bug I see here is that Calc doesn't permanently change the language
properties of the "misspelled" word when the spelling dialog changes it - I
would consider that to be pretty minor in Calc.

Word's Mini Toolbar is both context sensitive and shows up on right-click

(In reply to Yousuf Philips (jay) from comment #6)
> Nope it wasnt an Apples to Oranges comparison with Word, as Word's mini
> popup toolbar isnt a context menu and it was created due a limitation in the
> Ribbon UI, that you could be on a Ribbon tab and have to switch back to the
> Home tab every time you had to access basic text formatting features.

No, you are mistaken. The mini toolbar is for all intents and purposes a
CONTEXT MENU. It's context sensitive, it shows up when the user right clicks,
and it requires little mouse movement to reach. These are all qualities of
context menus. You not including ALL the functions offered by Word after a
right-click, made your comparison unfair. You made it easier to justify
removing items that should not have been removed.

I appreciate your effort to clean up the context menu, but for heavy context
menu users like me, you have gone too far. Let's discuss them in other reports
that I will file on a case by case basis.

Sorry for my harsh tone earlier. I was annoyed to be told that this change was
a feature and not a bug without any justification. Since you agree, the ‘Text’
entry should not have been removed, lets focus on getting this bug fixed.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107740] Writer formatting of inline formulas is erroneous

2017-05-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Most of the formulas do not use the frame style "Formula" but the frame style
"OLE". The frame style "OLE" includes an "anchor to paragraph", frame style
"Formula" has an "anchor as char". To get an "anchor as char" the formulas have
got a direct formating via object properties. But not only the anchor was set,
but the padding (=spacing to content) was set to a non-zero value in tab
border.
In 5.2 that did not matter, because the objects have no border. But in the
meantime LibreOffice honors a padding without border, as it should be. The
padding does not increase the box of the formula (similar to the green
handles), but the padding reduces the place for the content. So you see a tiny
content.

You have to repair the document. Set all formulas to style "Formula" and set
the "spacing to content" to zero for each formula.

Your document seems to be very large, so you need a way to do it automatically.
You can write a macro for this task or you can edit the styles manually in the
file source. If you need assistance, please ask on mailing list or forum.

Another question is, why the formulas have got the wrong style. Do you
remember, how these formulas were generated?

Images should be kept at the highest *reasonable* quality while editing. So
what is the advantage to doing this on insert time if you can still compress
them manually at any time? What is the use-case? Are we trying to save memory?

Border Overview

I'll make some tests about border thickness I have 3 test scenarios
1. Look good on the printout and after scanning
2. Look good on the screen when export as pdf
3. Look good on the screen in LibreOffice

attached you have 3 pages 1st is the exported pdf, 2nd is the scann and 3rd a
screenshot from the screen.

my result is

1 pt Header row and Total row thickness
+ cause it look thicker on the screen LO and the print show also the
separation
+ LaTeX use 1pt and other programms
+ work fine not only for line tables also for background colored table

0,25pt for the other borders
+ There is a visual difference between 1pt and 0,25pt
+ 0,05pt could be a problem on older printers or ink jet printing
+ 0,50pt is the difference between header not that much

If you need I have additional documents.

@Joey: Regarding your comment in bug 81132 which is related to direct
formatting entries removed from the context menu and nothing related to that
bug report, i'll reply to it so others CCed on that bug report arent spammed
with this discussion.

(In reply to Joey Reid from comment #49)
> I’m a little late the party here because I just upgraded to 5.2. While I
> understand the arguments for cleaning up the context menu. You have gone too
> far. After the upgrade, I find myself spending much more time digging

> once available in the context menu.

Whatever features that were removed from the context menu in that bug report
are available in formatting toolbar, so no need to go into the menus for them.

> You have gone too far by removing features that are context sensitive. These
> add no cutter because they were hidden except for when they are usable.

I'm assuming the removed features you are talking about are the Text option for
shapes and textboxes, or are there more?

> All your analytics may show that a feature is only used .01% of the time.
> But if you are one of those people that use the feature 100+ times in a
> single document like I do Bug 107635, these stats are meaningless.

For the .01% of users who require a feature to easily be available in the
context menu, they have the ability to modify the context menu to their liking,
just like we offer the same ability for toolbar and menus. We have to optimize
all UI (toolbars, menus, context menus, etc) for the largest user base or else
the UI will be worthless to all users.

> I'm sure your stats are from basic non-professional users.

The stats were gathered for a month from thousands of users of all proficiency
levels who used OOo 3.1 in 2009.

> Also, you are comparing Apples to Oranges with Word. LibreOffice lacks Word’s
> mini popup toolbar that appears when you select text.

Nope it wasnt an Apples to Oranges comparison with Word, as Word's mini popup
toolbar isnt a context menu and it was created due a limitation in the Ribbon
UI, that you could be on a Ribbon tab and have to switch back to the Home tab
every time you had to access basic text formatting features.

> MS Word only stripped down their context menu AFTER introducing the mini
> popup toolbar. By copying their context menu without the toolbar, you have
> just cause the UI to take a major step backwards.

Completely false as the context menu in MS word has always been condensed. Here
is Word 2003's (pre-mini popup toolbar) default context menu <
http://www.worldlingo.com/en/images/xp1.gif >. Also we arent copying MS Word's
context menu, as I analyzed the context menus of many competing office suites
when i did the reorganization.

Created attachment 133217
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=133217=edit
example with a deleted comma. revision tracking disappears if this is saved in
ODT format.

The example contains a comma deleted with revision tracking. In RTF export, the
(normal) rest of the paragraph is marked as deleted.
This bug is somewhat slippery, If I delete the next page, the bug goes away.
Also I wasn't able to save the example in ODT format, since the revision marks
disappear.

you're resetting the page number to 1 and odd pages are always right pages, so
an empty page is added to ensure that (when printing/exporting to PDF you have

If you right-click on a textbox in Impress, the 'Text' entry is present, but
yes its not there in writer, which should be corrected. The issue of shapes not
have 'Text' in the context menu is discussed in bug 94448. Do note that 'Text'
is available in the context menu when you are in edit mode of shapes or
textboxes.

@Maxim: Writer only has a single 'Shapes' context menu for both shapes and
textboxes, while Impress has a separate 'Text Box (drawing)' context menu. Was
this overlooked when you did the conversion to xml?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107755] New: store recently opened files list only in recently-used.xbel instead of registrymodifications.xcu too

2017-05-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107755

Bug ID: 107755
Summary: store recently opened files list only in
recently-used.xbel instead of
registrymodifications.xcu too
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: m...@hussam.eu.org

Most Linux applications store recently opened files in
~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel and just read that file and filter it in open
dialogs.

Libreoffice stores this list in its own configuration directory inside the
registrymodifications.xcu file as well. It shouldn't do that. It should only
look at recently-used.xbel and filter it for supported files then show those in
the start screen.
Note that the gtk+ open dialog is indirectly storing the entries from opened
files using libreoffice anyway in recently-used.xbel.

--- Comment #16 from Yousuf Philips (jay) ---
I believe that with the creation of the all-in-one properties dialog for
objects (bug 96355), this issue will be solved.

(In reply to Andreas B. from comment #9)
> But you have to click exactly on the Text, and it's only working if you have
> no Spelling errors in the Text.

You can right-click anywhere within the available text and if all have spelling
errors, you can still right-click next to a space (you have to do the same if
you dont want the spelling context menu in the main document).

> In my opinion I would like to have the text menu on the shape if there is a
> text inside.

Filed a enhancement bug for the creation of the UNO command (bug 107753).

> Maybe this is a topic for the User Interface Team?
