[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 113941] Default fonts used in Writer

2017-11-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113941

What is the problem described in this issue exactly? Do we have a community
request? (I don't mean that we *should not* change the defaults; only that we
should not simply copy some app's behaviour without a reason.)

The defaults should just enable most users to start working on their documents
with minimal effort. If the world population's trend is to prefer sans, then
it's OK to comply; so - do we have an evidence?

Word Processor Font Defaults

Writer presently uses Liberation Serif for text and Liberation Sans for
headings, which is equivalent to Times New Roman for text and Arial for
headings used in Word 2003.

In MSO 2007, Word shifted to using a sans font for text and serif font for
headings (the opposite of Word 2003), with the sans font Calibri for text and
the serif font Cambria for headings, while Word 2013 began uses Calibri for
text and Calibri Light for headings (both sans). Google Docs and iWork Pages
also use sans fonts for both text and headings.

Below are defaults used in various word processors and the attachment shows the
visual appearances of these defaults.

LibreOffice
Liberation Sans (Arial) 18.2pt for Heading 1
Liberation Serif (Times New Roman) 12pt for Text

MSO 2007/2010
Cambria (Caladea) 14pt for Heading 1
Calibri (Carlito) 11pt for Text

MSO 2013
Calibri Light 16pt for Heading 1
Calibri (Carlito) 11pt for Text

Google Docs
Arial (Liberation Sans) 20pt for Heading 1
Arial (Liberation Sans) 11pt for Text

WordPerfect X7
Times New Roman (Liberation Serif) 18pt for Heading 1
Times New Roman (Liberation Serif) 12pt for Text

iWork Pages 5.6
Helvetica 18pt (Liberation Sans) for Text
Helvetica (Liberation Sans) 11pt for Text

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 113940] New: Draw: EDITING: Resize of blank lines in multi-line text box causes SIGSEGV

2017-11-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113940

Bug ID: 113940
Summary: Draw: EDITING: Resize of blank lines in multi-line
text box causes SIGSEGV
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.3.7.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Draw
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: jhow...@alumni.caltech.edu

Description:
An inserted image was selected and text added. The text was on several lines-
"Abc def""123 456". The last line selected, text size reduced
4 points. The last 2 were selected by . Then using the
Character... dialog box to change "text" size (i.e. line size), crash occurred
upon [ OK ] to do change. Problem is repeatable.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Insert image (.jpg in my case); select it
2. Add text to image
3. Change Alignment of text to [Top][Center]
4. Enter multiple line text - line at top with some chars, couple of
blank lines (hit [Enter] on keyboard a couple of times, type some
more chars on the last line
5. Select chars on last line and reduce font size a few points; success
6. Move cursor to beginning of this last line
7. Use to select under cursor far enough to
move the cursor back upwards a couple of blank lines
-- note: I did not back up far enough to reach the chars on
  the 1st (unchanged) line
8. Use [Character...] dialog box to attempt to change size of the
blank lines downward a couple of points (in my case from 16 to 12)
9. Crash occurs on poke [ OK ] button

Actual Results:
Application crash

Note: Automatic bugzilla report generation also failed because traceback of
Draw could not be successfully generated -- even though 100 "debuginfo files
were successfully downloaded.

Expected Results:
First and last lines (with text) move a bit closer together because
the height of the intervening (blank) lines is reduced.

Reproducible: Always

I have come up with a work around. If the database is split then the

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 113939] New: double underline - inconsistent shortcut across components

2017-11-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113939

Bug ID: 113939
Summary: double underline - inconsistent shortcut across
components
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.4.3.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: tad.whites...@gmail.com

To get a double underline:
*in Writer type "abc123", select it, type "Ctrl D" -> result: double underlined
"abc123"
*in Impress type "abc123", select it, type "Ctrl-D" -> result: no change
*in Draw, create a text box, type "abc123", select it, type "Ctrl-D" -> result:
no change

*in Calc type "abc123", select cell, type "Ctrl-D" -> result: deleted
"abc123" or no change - not consistent

I would like the double underline to appear, like in Writer. I understand that
there may be conflicting shortcuts, but I couldn't see it.

Or perhaps there could/should be an "accounting format" for the cells, where
this shortcut would apply

It is independent of the printer (for my Brother and two Canon printers). One
sometimes hack here:
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/58177/libreoffice-5-for-mac-will-only-print-landscape-please-help/?answer=136599#post-id-136599
Nearby (comment to the main question) is this hack:
convert letter size to user-format (8.5" x 10.99") or (8.49"x11"), which don't
have noticeable effect on the margins.

We don't agree. What is the way forward to getting the bug fixed without
verbose explanations like previous bugs that have previously been written, set
as NOTABUG, and then implemented and set to FIXED?

Thanks for advice! It is different behavior in comparison to 6.0 and 5.3, as
well as to Microsoft Excel, where it is enough to select formula with Ctrl + /
and putting cursor into the input line. This change in behavior is not
mentioned also in list of "improvements".

And sorry for incomplete instructions in bug report! After clicking (single
click) into E2 and pressing "Ctrl" + "/" or alternatives on other keyboards to
select array formulas (https://help.libreoffice.org/Calc/Array_Functions) you
need to put cursor into input line or press F2 to enter into edit mode, as it
is written in help documentation.

It looks like the option for entering into edit mode by putting cursor into
input line is broken. If I'm putting cursor into input line after Ctrl + /, I
can't get to edit mode also by pressing F2. I should press Esc to leave input
line and then I can select array formula by F2.

It's not a big problem, because there is easy workaround with F2, but still
something is broken and program behaves slightly different than it is written
in help documentation. It's better to fix it before a version recommended for
enterprises is released and people are disappointed with something "not working
as they used to".

Best regards!

2017-11-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 113937
   Summary: Forms and reports hang
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Base
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: rpeter...@gmail.com

This is a GENERAL problem for me!
I am using Base and had the problem with 5.3.7. I switched to 5.4.3 and still
am seeing it. I am using the embedded database option.
Note I have been using libreoffice base for a LONG time, before 2011, all on
the SAME database which has grown I have been using it mostly on the same
laptop for the past 4 years.

In the process of looking at various forms for my database or reports,
libreoffice "hangs". I can wait 30 minutes and it does not come back!!

I started having this problem in the last few months.

I am trying the LinuxMint standard LibreOffice package which is 5.1.6.2 to see
if the problem occurs. So far, there is no evidence of this problem. I WILL
UPDATE this report if the "hanging" problem PERSISTS or NOT.

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';

- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

No, the LO behavior is correct--mouse clicks will select word, select sentence,
select paragraph and all function as they need, cross platform.

Those, along with keyboard accelerators for selection (e.g.
) suffice.

While in tables, mouse click selection: at upper left corner for whole table,
or at left margin for the row, functions correctly and consistently--although
yes, the click target could stand to be expanded, but not sure it is possible
with a table object.

Otherwise, we have no need to pursue MS Office features.

I switched from Office Libre back to Open Office and it had the same problem
(shared code base probably).

However, in the most recent Windows 10 update (1703 (OS Build 15063.726)), the
right ALT+E key combo starting working like before (i.e. correctly - opens the
Edit menu).

I see Microsoft has hidden their OS version - no longer under My
Computer>Properties. In cmd window, need to type winver.

2017-11-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105225

Here is a patch that uses the Area tab with relevant buttons displayed
according to background needs. Character, Sections, and Table for Writer are
functional in this patch.

The Edit Sections Options still has the bug of not displaying current
background in the tab after a document has been closed and reopened. This is a
bug in the sections code itself.

Table background is only by cell. A workaround for the 'by cell, row or table'
drop down in the old background tab is to select rows, columns, or entire table
and then apply background.

That is a different operation. Windows 10 has a "Microsoft print to PDF" as
printer in the printing dialog. There I expect, that my printer settings are
honored, because it is listed as printer. There it is no problem, because the
printing preview shows, what I get.

The problem is, that printer settings affect "Export to PDF".

test of all form function in LOO 5.4.2.1 64bit win10

right mouse button form functions

1st form function: combine is like substract, but i expect add in boolean
thinking
2nd form function: connect is weird
3rd form function: fusion : ellipse gone like in 5.3.6.1, what boolean effect
is expected here?

4th form function: substract: ok

5th form function: intersect: is weird in all 3 examples in size

6th form function: same width: ok
7th form function: same heigth: ok

Boolean symbols in LOO form functions would be nice for boolean form functions.

same results like 5.3.6.1

Hi @Buovjaga, the issue with this short-cut it's also for me with Spanish
keyboard-, without the numeric keyboard, the '/' is on the shift of '7' for me,
so it's no reachable.
Ctrl+/ <> Ctrl+Shift+/

@Andis after Ctrl+/ only the array is selected, you need [F2] to enter on edit
mode and see the color borders.

For me not a bug.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 113933] New: Incorrect font rendering with Impress

2017-11-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113933

Bug ID: 113933
Summary: Incorrect font rendering with Impress
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.0 all versions
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Impress
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: gibt...@gmx.de

Hello everyone,

I would like to report a small but pretty annoying error in LibreOffice
Impress, appearing in all versions I tested so far, including the latest
release. Mainly it is just a "visual" problem, but a really problematic one
that mainly forces me to switch to PDF export and PDF presentations.

If you create a small presentation including some text on a slide (even black
text on a white slide without anything else reproduces this error), it looks
perfectly ok in the editing window. However, as soon as you open the presenter
console with hardware acceleration enabled, you see extremely ugly fonts with
pretty annoying rendering artifacts. If you disable the hardware acceleration,
the fonts will look better, but other things like shapes or included
SVG-figures are badly rendered. Interestingly, with enabled hardware
acceleration, this included non-text stuff like SVG-figures look great, even
embedded fonts in them look perfect. Hence, I only can conclude that there is
something going wrong with the rendering of normal text boxes with enabled
hardware acceleration. I also would like to emphasize that in editing mode,
everything always looks pretty alright, the bug only appears in fullscreen
presentation mode. I also tried all kinds of different view and rendering
settings (OpenGL etc.), this problem still appears.

Further I'm using a Windows 10 / Linux dual boot configuration, and this issue
only appears in the Windows version of LibreOffice. If I switch to Linux (KDE
neon LTS), the fonts look perfect with or without hardware acceleration, only
disabling it will result in badly rendered SVG-figures. But of course, if I
keep the hardware acceleration enabled, everything looks perfect. There is only
one small error appearing sometimes depending on the way how SVG-figures are
placed closed to text; sometimes I get some artifacts visible as thin white
lines "cutting through" the letters of the respective text. I don't know if
this is somehow related, but the problem is much more tolerable. Interestingly
it does only appear on Linux, not on Windows.

A possible workaround is to use the PDF export and present the slides using a
PDF viewer. However I would like to use the presenter console directly to avoid
PDF exports (pretty annoying if you want to change something on a slide and
always reexport everything).

I also created a topic dealing with this issue in the LO forum; since there has
no solution been found, I would like to report this as a bug. Here is the link
to my previous question, there is also an example image showing the problem:
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/98075/impress-incorrect-font-rendering-in-presentation-mode/

I hope that this can be easily fixed... Thanks in advance! :-)

I disagree here:
If I use "Export to PDF", then I expect, that the PDF looks like the document
on screen.
"Export to PDF" is no printing. Printing is always in regard to a special
printer. But the resulting pdf-file can be printed to varies printers having
different properties.
"Export to PDF" is no printing, because it allows embedding the document,
security settings, signatures and watermark.
It is a setting in section "print". Such setting should not influence other
exports. For example, if you select "Brochure" in the printer settings, I'm
sure, you still want the pdf to have the normal page order.

What I can see in LO is the following:

1 click = moves cursor to beginning of the line
2 click = selects the first word of the line
3 click = selects the sentence, that includes the first word of the line or the
whole paragraph, if there is only one sentence

Version: 5.4.3.2 (x64)
Build-ID: 92a7159f7e4af62137622921e809f8546db437e5
CPU-Threads: 4; Betriebssystem:Windows 6.19; UI-Render: Standard;
Gebietsschema: de-DE (de_DE); Calc: group

Since it is easy to mark a line, the whole paragraph or all with the keyboard,
I won't support your proposal. But perhaps there are also different opinions.

You made three proposals in your bug report. I think you should open a
different bug report for each issue. Otherwise it could be very difficult to
follow the discussion or to change the status of one of them.

PDFs with many pages need a split in some parts for actual LOO-Import with

This functionality is often asked for, esp. with Writer or Impress. Making it
available would help users who are reluctant to deal with several different
tools to achieve that goal.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 113932] New: Make Select text by clicking in Margins MSO compliant

2017-11-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113932

Bug ID: 113932
Summary: Make Select text by clicking in Margins MSO compliant
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: magal...@gmail.com

Created attachment 137852
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=137852=edit
example file for line and row selection

Make Select text by clicking in Margins MSO compliant

In MS Word you have following behavior when clicking in the left margin:

mouse cursor changes to an arrow in the margin, indicating selection tool
1 click = select line
2 click = select paragraph
3 click = select all

in LO (now using 5.4.2.2)

Mouse cursor remains a text entry symbol (I)
1 click = moves cursor to beginning of the line
2 click = unpredictable, selects a word, few words or a paragraph
3 click = unpredictable, mostly undo selection

When it comes to tables there is another annoying difference:
In Writer the mouse cursor changes to an arrow in front of a table row and you
can then select the row by clicking, or several rows by dragging down. But you
only have 1mm of room to do that, where in word you can use the whole margin.
Outside of 1mm zone it moves cursor to left cell and dragging down selects
cells in first column, which is strange behavior.

Another difference is that in a MS Word table you can select a cell by clicking
in the top-left-corner of the cell (mouse cursor shows arrow). LO does not have
this.

Suggested change:
Make writer MS Word compliant in selecting lines and table rows in the left
margin. The MSO way is clearly superior and more visible.

The most important part of this is the one-click-selection of lines. I use
one-click selection a lot

> press "Ctrl" + "/" to select formula

What is the name of this command? I have Finnish keyboard and cannot give this
shortcut. I would need to go to Customize and apply it to something else.

If I otherwise try to edit the formula, I get: You cannot change only part of
an array.
