[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 120727] Excessive CPU usage under normal use (typing)

2018-10-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=120727

Just deleted my /4 profile and re-opened this document
CPU usage typing: 50%
Open LO in "low resolution" CPU usage while typing is ca. 30-40% (bit less,
still a lot)

I.e. completely fresh profile does not change anything

2018 MBP is running at retina resolution, internal GPU.

thanks, Fonts: 242 (Font Book.app)
Our company has used LO since StarOffice days - it is possible that this
document has its origin from back then.

I don't think that it has been through docx, but cannot be sure.

Would like to find a fix that does not require a new template though - as we
cannot go through 1000s of existing documents to fix this.

@laurens : how many fonts are installed on your system ?

The test document shows a style at the bottom in the status bar that is called
"First convert 1" - has this document been converted from a previous other
format?

I think the only issue is the menubutton on the right of tabbed bar. But also
on Windows it works well.

I don't see the issue in 6.2 alpha 1. Maybe on OS-X where the menubar is moved
to the left.

For me it's WFM.

Yes, I tried to use scroll, open menus, etc.
This is the reason for "nothing selected".

Thus, bug is only for "slow selection"

But this behavior is only reproduced for VCL=KDE5, not for gtk3

And also I compared it with LO 5.4.7.2:
it's possible to work with Writer document with opened dialog in another LO
application.

Context Toolbar Frame vs Drawing Properties Toolbar

The arrangement between Frame and Drawing Object Properties are different so
when you switch between different Contextual Toolbars they jump. I prefer to
have the same arrangement between different contextual toolbars.

To have the same arrangement in the first section has to be the elements that
are in each contextual menu the same:
- Anchor
- Wrap
- Align
- Arrange

Than the colloring section which should look (if possible) nearly the same
- Line Color
- Line Width
- Area Color
- ...

Than the Manipulation stuff
- Rotate
- Transform

And group section (if available)
- Group

Last Section as it is now
- special stuff

This is what's currently possible in Writer:

It's not like nothing is possible at the moment, the point of this ticket is to
improve interoperability by allowing further settings, and adapt the user
interface accordingly.

This concerns Word's Review -> Restrict Editing feature.

There the following can be controlled separately:
1. Formatting restrictions.
2. Different editing restrictions with possible exceptions.
3. Whether the restriction setting is password-protected.

Currently (as of 6.2 alpha1) the "Filling in forms" editing restriction is
supported via the compatibility setting "Protect form", but without the ability
to set/reset the password.

Whatever's related to Word's Review -> Restrict Editing feature, in binary DOC
format.

Generally Word-specific, Writer currently has a compatibility setting "Protect
form" that partially covers the feature.

Might, but not necessarily involve setting a password (but it isn't equivalent
to bug 108914, which is about encryption).
Might, but not necessarily involve form fields, since in Word such fields can
only be edited in protected documents.

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **
