[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128595] Document difference for words and characters and spaces when copying and pasting text

2019-11-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128595

Paste unformatted is not a useful solution for me. Aside from the difficulty
of pressing 4 keys simultaneously, paste unformatted loses ALL formatting, not
just word boundaries, namely font, size, and font effects. The reason that I
am copying single characters instead of just retyping them is to preserve this
formatting. It is more work to reformat the copied text than to delete the
unwanted blanks.

BTW, the text that I copied did not have blanks on either side. It was
embedded in a line of dots (periods). This is another problem I have with
LibreOffice. I have to do a lot of work to prevent periods from being
compressed into ellipses.

I disagree that this problem is NotABug. The fact that the extra blanks were
inserted intentionally only means that this is not a programming bug, but it is
still a design bug. Any time that you change something that I type, it's a
bug. If you capitalize a letter that I typed in lower case, that's a bug. If
you change a word I typed, that's a bug. If you change 3 dots into an
ellipsis, or --> into an arrow, change 2nd into 2 with a superscript nd, that's
a bug, unless I specifically tell you to make those formatting changes.

Sorry, just sounding off, but this all gets very frustrating constantly
fighting against program features that I'm sure the designers thought would
actually be helpful.

I should add - ideally I'd like to just reread the data/cell contents and leave
everything else untouched (position in the sheet, cells hidden, cell

As it turns out, the revert wasn't necessary. A real fix is proposed at
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/82412 tdf#128608.

I think that I will backport this as well, since I was able to create a
clean-room example without using tables - proving that I at least somewhat
understand the problem, and that there are situations going back to 6.2.x that
still aren't resolved without this.

Dear Marc PHILIPPE,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

Mockup v.2

Dear Roman,
I support your effort. I suspect the "previous row" and "next row" approach
will suffice (no need to list all rows together), since very large tables with
each row listed might be difficult to capture (placing the list in a scrolling
window would be interesting). Looking at the last feature on the page, "Repeat
the first # rows as heading" is interesting innovation. I prefer to turn off
breaking across pages, and I think this is important specification, but I am
not sure that providing this this option for each row separately has value.
thank you.

In an effort to narrow down the issue, I have built 6.4 from source on Catalina
with Xcode11. Text in documents etc is still blurry, but my observation is that
something has changed along the way.
Anything built on Xcode9 has clear text, as we know.
6.3/6.4 built on Xcode10, I noticed the About box text was also blurry.
Now, my 6.4 build on Xcode11 has fuzzy text in docs, but the About box is now
sharp.

Was anything changed recently that could have affected the About box but not
in-document text rendering?

The shortcut key for context menu is Shift+F10. It belongs to the accessibility
shortcut keys and therefore should been disabled in customize dialog. If it
does not work in some context, I would consider that as bug.

Besides that, my keyboard has a nice "context menu" key, located bottom right
between "AltGr" and "Strg". That works in most applications and in LibreOffice
too. (Here with Windows 10, but it worked with older Windows versions already.)

Small correction: Writer will surround it smartly by spaces to keep it as a set
of words.

---
If a text cut or copied from Writer is surrounded by spaces it will be
considered as a set of words. When pasted, Writer will surround it smartly by
spaces to keep it as a set of words: separated by spaces from other characters
but avoiding any duplication of spaces.

If the text is pasted as Unformatted Text, this consideration is ignored and
the text is pasted as is, without adding any spaces.

> "Writer will copy and paste a word with trailing or leading space, to
> separate from other word. Same is for single letter, because it's regarded a
> word.
> One or more characters from a word will be pasted without space.
> Words pasted as unformatted text will also not have a space."

I agree that this should be documented.

It's not "trailing or leading" but "trailing and leading". I did some tests to
confirm this. I also think that the phrase "single letter" is ambiguous; it can
be thought of any character from within a word if the rest of the proposed text
has not been read yet.

Allow me to propose a new text:

---
If a text cut or copied from Writer is surrounded by spaces it will be
considered as a set of words. When pasted, Writer will surround it smartly by
spaces to keep it as a word: separated by spaces from other characters but
avoiding any duplication of spaces.

If the text is pasted as Unformatted Text, this consideration is ignored and
the text is pasted as is, without adding any spaces.
---

My two cents.

2019-11-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128704

Bug ID: 128704
Summary: file:reopen of file:reread should be supported for
when open files are changed externally
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com

Description:
I need to use LO to view a spreadsheet generated and modified externally.

There is no clean way for LO to detect the underlying file has changed or offer
a "reopen" or "reread" service. This results in a clumsy: close,
file:open:recent etc etc dance where a reread service would be nice.

Steps to Reproduce:
open a file, change the underlying file, LO doesn't offer a reopen/reread or
detect the changes.

Actual Results:
open a file, change the underlying file, LO doesn't offer a reopen/reread or
detect the changes.

Expected Results:
open a file, change the underlying file, LO doesn't offer a reopen/reread or
detect the changes.

Reproducible: Always

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128702] New: In nested lists, unexpected results when trying to move unnumbered/non-bulleted entries

2019-11-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128702

Bug ID: 128702
Summary: In nested lists, unexpected results when trying to
move unnumbered/non-bulleted entries
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.3.3.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: alex@gmail.com

Description:
In a nested list with some unnumbered/non-bulleted entries and associated
subpoints, trying to move the unnumbered/non-bulleted entries with its
subpoints gives inconsistent or unexpected results.
The problem occurs with the 'Move Down/Up with Subpoints' functions as well as
with the 'Demote/Promote One Level With Subpoints' functions.

When one tries to move or demote/promote the entry with its subpoints, the
entry is not displaced with its subpoints but:
- either with the entry above (if it is a numbered/bulleted entry)
- or with the last subpoint of the entry above (if the above entry has
subpoints - whther or not they are numbered/bulleted)
- or not moved at all if the entry above is an unnumbered/non-bulleted entry

Further, when one tries to move an unnumbered/non-bullted entry UP, the entry
moves up two levels and not just one.

See attached document for a test case. It is difficult to list all combinations
of possible configurations but it is easy to alter the configuration in the
document by using the more elementary 'Move Up/Down' and 'Demote/Promote One
Level' functions of the Bullets and Numbering toolbar.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the document
2. Place the cursor on one of the unnumbered/non-bulleted entries
3. Move the entries usint the buttons 'Move Dow/Up with Subpoints' or
'Demote/Promote One Level with Subpoints' from the Bullets and Numbering
toolbar

Actual Results:
See description above.

Expected Results:
The simplest behavior would be that unnumbered/non-bulleted entries are treated
the same way as numbered/non-bullted entries.
A more elaborated behavior would be to move the whole entry, including all the
sublists or subpoints it contains.

Reproducible: Always

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128701] New: Formattable numbered paragraphs

2019-11-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128701

Bug ID: 128701
   Summary: Formattable numbered paragraphs
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: jo...@probell.com

Patent applications number paragraphs with 4-digits in brackets. For example,
[0001]. Adding that capability would enable an entire class of professionals to
switch to LibreOffice Writer.

An ideal implementation would probably allow for formatting paragraph numbers
in Writer with the format code system available for cells in Calc.

Just to confirm, the bug still persists in LibreOffice 6.3.3.2 on MacOS 10.13

The workaround still works

If I start LO from the terminal I get this message "before" the crash
(pkix_CacheCert_Add: PKIX_PL_HashTable_Add for Certs skipped: entry existed
