[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128867] New: Decimal separator on numeric pad not recognized in page or paragraph formatting dialogues

2019-11-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128867

Bug ID: 128867
Summary: Decimal separator on numeric pad not recognized in
page or paragraph formatting dialogues
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.4.0.0.beta1+
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: andis.lazd...@gmail.com

Description:
While on previous versions of Libreoffice (up to 6.2.8 at least) decimal
separator on numeric pad was treated as decimal separator by all dialogues of
the program, now it is different - I can use it as decimal separator, for
instance, to write numbers in Calc, but to set paragraph margins I have to use
comma from main keyboard (in Latvian comma is decimal separator).

I'm sure it is Libreoffice bug, because in parallel installation of 6.2.8
everything works as supposed to work.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set operating system keyboard layout to Latvian (apostrophe) or any other
layout using comma as decimal separator (in my case keyboard model is set to
Generic 105-key PC (intl.).
2. In Libreoffice open Options and in Language section set Locale settings to
Latvian. Leave Decimal separator key checked on - Same as locale settings (,).
3. Create new Calc file and enter some decimal numbers using numeric pad to
enter decimal separator.
4. Open Format > Page and select Page tab. Try to enter 2,5 cm for Margins
using numeric pad as decimal separator.

3.

Actual Results:
On point 3 numbers are entered as predicted and decimal separator on numeric
pad is recognized as decimal separator.
On point 4 decimal separator on numeric pad is not recognized and instead of
2,5 cm program enters 25 cm.

Expected Results:
In both cases program should recognize decimal separator in numeric pad as
decimal separator and page margins in point for should be set to 2,5 cm.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128850] SPECIAL CHARACTER: Add Exclusive-or symbol

2019-11-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128850

So users of LibreOffice need to know the Unicode values for the characters they
need? I find scrolling through the LibreOffice dropdown lists of special
characters difficult and time consuming. Going through the whole Unicode list
in order to find the codes takes hours. I have done it a few times, and would
not want to do that again.

Is there some way character lookup could be done by typing a description of the
character in a search box, for example "math operator exclusive-or" or "French
c cedilla" or the like? Or a hierarchic search where I type "math operator"
and get a list of categories like algebra, geometry, calculus, logic. Then
when I click on one of those I get the actual characters on one page.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 126250] make function returning values or reference capable of returning values or reference

2019-11-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=126250

I linked a file where I find a value for getting the right line index.
RECHERCHEV can give me the value to the column at right, not the index. So I do
not see simple ways to retrieve one time the index/cell, and then make
operations based on it.

As you write, it seems my requirement is covered by macro. But I think it could
be covered without macro.

Thank you.

Dear Valdas,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128866] New: UI: Export should set selection as default value

2019-11-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128866

Bug ID: 128866
Summary: UI: Export should set selection as default value
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Draw
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: gerhard.we...@t-online.de

Using File -> Export in Draw yields a file dialog having a check field at the
bottom where youcan choose whether you wish to export the entire slide or only
the selction made. Exporting the entire slide (with probably much unused space)
seems to be a rare case, exporting just the created or selected grafic(s) seems
more likely, so I propose to use "selection" as default for Draw.
On the other hand, this might be a general dialog for all modules, and
switching the default for all modules might be a problem. So if there is no way
to change the default for Draw, the general case might be important enough not
to change the behaviour.
So I see this bug report as an inducement to have a closer look at this case.

It could indeed be the same issue. But as it resulted in a different error
code and manifested in a different manner, I filed the two different reports.
Since then I have resolved the issue. I'm not exactly sure how it was
resolved, but it resolved. Just as a thought: if this "is reproducible and
affects many people"... and it didn't affect my other Windows programs (such as
Wordpad), the question comes as to why it occurs with Libre Office directly
following installation of an update. Might be worth checking out. It may be a
"local" issue as suggested, but apparently is a local issue that affects many
people. The question to be answered: WHY does it happen?

Not really, the Special Character chart gives functional font preview scrolling
the droplist of fonts, and provides search (by Unicode name, and Unicode
functional block).

Project also makes it easy to enter a glyph directly from keyboard using its
Unicode point. You would for example enter "U+2295" and then toggle it to its ⊕
glyph by entering +X

Or likewise to reverse that conversion and show the Unicode value, for example
"U+2297" CIRCLED TIMES for glyph ⊗

Not really. Unicode is enormous but there are a few things that could be done
to improve the charts, e.g. restoring the empty chart values to visually show
missing glyphs in a font, and labeling the rows and columns of the font chart
for easy identification of the glyph's codepoint.

Otherwise there are some very good utility programs for working with Unicode
chart representations of fonts. BabelMap on Windows or gucharmap on gtk2/3
Linux DE.

OK, thanks!

Did an actual msiexec /i install with WRITE_REGSITRY=1, and now see the

The button is only effective for registered apps - i.e., those in
HKLM\Software\RegisteredApplications. The app name in the registry (as written
when installing) must be the same as passed to the function; to find out which
is the string passed to the function, please execute soffice --version, which
would give something like

> ...
> LibreOfficeDev 6.5.0.0.alpha0 46920005f74edcb70acfb8dd1a0ffb9553e5c2b2

and from this, LibreOfficeDev 6.5 (i.e., name and first two digits with dot
between them) is the app name as should be present under
HKLM\Software\RegisteredApplications. The string value in registry should point
to Capabilities registry key. For testing, e.g. for me it's enough to add
"LibreOfficeDev 6.5" to the RegisteredApplications, with value of "SOFTWARE\The
Document Foundation\LibreOffice\6.3\Capabilities" pointing to capabilities of
existing LO 6.3 installation.

And then, on Windows before 10, 'Set Defaults by App' should open; on Windows
10, according to MS policy, https://i.stack.imgur.com/7N2xp.png should appear,
suggesting to user where to set the settings.

Perhaps it might help to find out what the existing code already does for
en_??, but doesn't do for de_DE? (I'm doing a git clone right now, but I fear
it will take substantially longer for me even to find the relevant code than it
will take for the pros here to fix it - the more so since I'm not fluent in

2019-11-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128860

German typographical apostrophe is U+2019, looks like an upper comma.

There are some ideas now:
A Detect, if the to be replaced straight apostrophe U+0027 is not inside a
single quotation and not after a starting single quotation. I think, that might
work for entering new text at the end of a document, but it will be difficult
when edit an existing text.

B If the to be replaced U+0027 sign is inside a word, then replace it with a
typographical apostrophe. That would not catch all cases for a typographical
apostrophe, but would be better than the current situation.

C Provide a short cut for entering a typographical apostrophe, independent from
keyboard layout and locale. Same for other characters, needed for other
languages, perhaps allow user to customize it. I know, that Linux has means to
customize keyboard layout, but those do not exist on Windows.

I hope, Eike can tell, which is indeed a practical idea.

might be the problem is that I copied a lot of content of the file from the

> And exactly which Unicode glyph would be the "typographic apostrophe symbol"
> that would be "correct"--and for which locale?

This has already been answered by the Unicode consortium, independent of
locale. Originally, U+02BC 'MODIFIER LETTER APOSTROPHE' was considered as the
preferred character for a punctuation apostrophe, but since Unicode v.3.0.0 the
U+2019 'RIGHT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK' is considered as the preferred character -
see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modifier_letter_apostrophe.

> Can't do it now

You already do, in en_?? locales.

I repeat, the above is what LibreOffice already does in en_?? locales when an
apostrophe is typed inside a word, i.e. with no delimiter character following
it (if the user didn't specify and enable custom single quote characters, and
this limitation is actually a bug, too, while I guess developers wanted to keep
it like that as long as there is no option to specify and enable a custom
'apostrophe' character, too, which then would be used in place of U+2019).

Now my report is about de_DE, where basically the same rules apply except for
some differences in the default characters for 'single quotes', and here
LibreOffice doesn't do it - it uses U+2018 'LEFT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK' when an
apostrophe is typed inside a word, which is always wrong. Which is why this is
a bug.

@Mike, With the TB77 nightly for 20191117 on a Windows 10 Home 64-bit en-US
(1903) laptop. I see the new 'Windows Default apps' control on the Tools ->
Options -> General tab.

But with typical /a Admin server install, no quickstart--I get no response from
the control, and no launch of the Windows 10 Settings panel.

For testing, do we have to do the install with a WRITER_REGISTRY=1 to get the
dev build to respond?

And then on Windows 10 which of the Settings -> Apps panels should it open
to--'Default Apps' or 'Set Defaults by App'

I found a workaround here:

And exactly which Unicode glyph would be the "typographic apostrophe symbol"
that would be "correct"--and for which locale?

Only the 0x0027 is an APOSTROPHE and has its own Unicode glyph, everything else
requires a Unicode glyph be substituted--a single quote (opening or closing),
or other locale appropriate glyph--depending on locale.

We handle as quotes (single or double), or with Autocorrect disabled as
apostrophe (and use of 0x0027 as drawn fro the font in use for the paragraph).

To be precise what is required is additional editengine, or autocorrect, logic
to handle keyboard input of the Apostrophe keysym (0x0027) with more options
than as a single quotation (opening or closing). Likewise for the Quotation
Mark keysym (0x0021).

Can't do it now, but it is Not a Bug, so => Enhancement requiring dev effort.

Firefox Personas search & apply functionality has been removed from the
personalization dialog (Tools ▸ Options ▸ LibreOffice ▸ Personalization) as per
the ESC & Design Team decisions, after major changes on the Mozilla side, which
made it impossible to use their legacy API and the themes data for us. The
default personas are unaffected, and still functional. Future improvements and
more features are planned by the Design Team, thanks to now having a clean
slate, without the burden of chasing an external API. Firefox Persona themes
are dead; long live the LibreOffice Themes!

This report is not about 'single quotes' handling being incorrect, it is about
'apostrophes' not being properly handled. Apostrophes are routinely recognised
as a single quote (end quote), which is incorrect, and reverting the
autocorrection still does the wrong thing - it reverts back to the a
typewriter-style x0027 character, where a typographic apostrophe symbol would
be correct.

Seems to me current handling of typographic 'single quotes' is correct to
function--use of opening and closing quotation. An immediate +z or
will revert any unwanted autocorrect while typing.

And as noted entries in the autocorrect Replacement strings data file by locale
(of the Paragraph being edited) will take precedence over the option
corrections of single and double quotes while typing or modifying content.

But, seems it could be a reasonable enhancement to the edit engine where it
should be possible to set additional logic testing for entry of second "'"
(0x0027). Maybe as simple as: "more than two words and it gets handled as a
quotation, one or two words and it is an apostrophe"--and receiving a locale
preferred typographic glyph for apostrophe. Though probably just the
QuotationEnd of the localedata/data/[locale]

=-notes-=

Related issue for the fr-CH users in bug 116062 where we in the
i18npool/source/localedata/data/fr_CH.xml we reverted correct Swiss national
"‹" (0x2039) & "›" (0x203a) to "‘" (0x2018) & "’" (0x2019) for QuotationStart
& QuotationEnd to restore use of the apostrophe.

While for bug 1115382 László tweaked apostrophe usage for the -HU locales via
the Autocorrect logic.

Likewise we have some issues with RTL scripts, eg. bug 114575, where we reverse
the order of Starting and Ending. Or as in bug 114184 needing support in Hebrew
for its Geresh and Mercha.

2019-11-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128860

I'm aware of the difficulty in distinguishing apostrophes at the end of a word
from (single-quote) end quotes, which is why I included the case only as a
remark, while the subject of this bug report is apostrophes *inside* a word or
phrase, without an adjacent space or other delimiter character. An apostrophe
character inside a word can and should, by default, always be interpreted as an
apostrophe, not an end quote. Which is what the English implementation is
already doing correctly - if only as long as default single quote
autocorrection is used.

(And once we had the notion of an 'apostrophe' vs. a 'quote', it would offer
some options for at least recognizing some apostrophes at the end of words. A
criterion, for example, could be the absence of any (single-quote) start-quote
character before the apostrophe character in the document or paragraph.)

Do you have a suggestion how to distinguish the situation, where an apostrophe
(’ U+2019) has to be written, from the situation, where a single ending
quotation mark (‘ U+2018) is needed? Especially, if you have started a single
opening quotation and now want e.g "Hans’ Auto". I know no way to do it.

If you need the signs often, you should learn the code points and use the
"Toggle Unicode" feature of LibreOffice, or define a macro and shortcut for it,
or adjust the keyboard layout to get them directly.

Summary: Unable to open tables in .odb files in Libreoffice
6.2.8.2
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.2.8.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Base
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: zeriani...@gmail.com

Description:
When I click on Tables inside any .odb file when Javascript is enabled,
Libreoffice instantly crashes.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open any .odb file.
2. Click on Table to view the tables in the file.
3. Instant crash to desktop.

Actual Results:
Crashes to desktop

Expected Results:
It should have shown the tables inside the database file.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
This also creates a problem where Libreoffice after you restart it on the crash
gets caught in a "Open-Close-Open-Close" infinite loop where you have to
manually use the Task Manager to force Libreoffice to close.

Then whatever setting has been corrupted is cleared and when you try to reopen
Libreoffice again, it will open regularly.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128860] New: Incorrect autocorrection of apostrophes in German text

2019-11-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128860

Bug ID: 128860
Summary: Incorrect autocorrection of apostrophes in German text
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.3.3.1 rc
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: r...@rsems.dev

Description:
In German text, words or phrases containing apostrophes with no adjacent spaces
are incorrectly autocorrected.

Common examples are "ist's" (short for "ist es"), "Andrea's" (similar to
English use), "D'dorf" (short for "Düsseldorf").

The correct typographic symbol would be the English *right* single quotation
mark (U+2019).

When single quotes autocorrection is disabled, the typewriter-style
'apostrophe' (U+0027) is inserted (the ASCII character to which the apostrophe
key is traditionally mapped).

When single quotes autocorrection is enabled, the English *left* single
quotation mark (U+2018) is inserted, or whatever the user has configured for
the single 'end quote'.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice Writer, create a German-language document
2. Make sure 'autocorrect while typing' is enabled
3. Type words or phrases containing apostrophes like ist's, Andrea's, D'dorf

Actual Results:
If single quotes autocorrection is disabled, the character inserted into the
text is the typewriter-style, non-typographic apostrophe symbol (U+0027).

If single quotes autocorrection is enabled, the character inserted into the
text is the unicode character 'LEFT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK' (U+2018), or the
character defined by the user as the 'end quote' for single quotes
autocorrection, depending on whether there is a user-defined replacement or
not.

Only three specific phrases, and even these only if single quotes
autocorrection is disabled, finally will have the apostrophe (U+0027) replaced
with the correct symbol (U+2019) – "geht's", "gibt's" and "wird's" – because
these three replacements are explicitly included in DocumentList.xml file
within the acor_de.dat archive.

Expected Results:
The apostrophe being inserted is the unicode character 'RIGHT SINGLE QUOTATION
MARK' (U+2019).

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
Three remarks:

1. Even when used as an apostrophe, it's surely sensible to not replace the
U+0027 apostrophe character with a typographic character if such an
autocorrection would not be wanted, but the enabled/disabled state of 'single
quotes' autocorrection is not the proper place, semantically, for deciding what
is to be done with a genuine apostrophe. For a user, changing something within
'single quotes' autocorrection settings should not have an effect on how
genuine apostrophes are handled. The only real solution to this problem might
be to include a third, separate settings option for 'apostrophes' beside
'single quotes' and 'double quotes'.

2. Sometimes an apostrophe can be used at a word's end (for marking the
genitive of nouns ending in s, ß, z, x: "Delacroix' Gemälde", the painting by
Delacroix). If we get a correct typographic character there, it's only because
by pure chance the currently used 'end quote' for 'single quotes' is the same
symbol. Depending on the overall typography someone wants to use, this does not
need to be the case.

3. To the best of my knowledge, even the implementation for English text (I
tried English-UK) solves the problem only partly. Autocorrection of the U+0027
character used as an apostrophe within a word is dependent on whether "single
quotes" autocorrection is enabled or not, too. Only if this is enabled, and
only if the user has not defined a custom "end quote" for "single quotes",
autocorrection correctly inserts U+2019 as the typographic apostrophe symbol.

To get the same behaviour for German text would already improve things, even if
it wouldn't solve the underlying problem, which is the behaviour of apostrophes
being dependent on the settings for single quotes.

Fixed at 6.3.0 as for bug 87965 [1][2] providing control on the dialog, and in
the Calc View options. But Heiko's patch also provides an Expert configuration
boolean "SearchSummary" for the Calc Layout Window. Where 'true' will show the
summary dialog (with max as for bug 92160 of 1000 results), and 'false' will
suppress the summary.

In the GUI the 'Summary on Search' checkbox on the Tools -> Options -> Calc ->
View panel toggles the SearchSummary value true/false. And the 'Show this
dialog' checkbox on the 'Search Results' dialog will set it false.

Inherited. I'm not sure what to do. But it's trivial to avoid that Enter and
maybe a nice surprise for someone who never knew about this. So maybe more

  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED

 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: j...@arcor.de

Description:
Writing a text with Libre Office 6.3.1.2 (and with the former version) it's not
yet possible by selecting only one or a couple of words to give them a special
frame by choosing 'format>character>frame'. If you do this, the whole line gets
the frame - not only the selected word. This method worked in former versions.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.write a sentence
2.choose any word
3.choose 'format>character>frame' an choose a special frame for your word

Actual Results:
All the words in the line get the frame, that was chose by using
'format>character>frame'

Expected Results:
Only the chosen word gets the fram.
