[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 142086] FORMATTING: Wrapping text around equations
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142086 --- Comment #10 from Regina Henschel --- (In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #8) > @Regina, anything to add on wraping around an OLE formula? Yes. We have two contrary use cases for Math formula, (A) a small formula inline and (B) a formula in own paragraph. Dave apparently needs case (B). The default is case (A). That means, that the frame style "Formula" is automatically used, when a Math formula is inserted. This style has the anchor type "as character" and that anchor type cannot be changed in the style. This style has a padding, where zero padding should be, see bug 65067. For use case (B) you need to change the anchor type individually for the formula, or you need to define an own frame style derived from "Frame". That one has the anchor type "to paragraph". In such a new own frame style you can set the desired padding. You will need to apply that style after the formula is inserted. We might consider adding an option to select the preferred anchor type for formula, which would reduce the cases, where the user has to set the anchor type individually for each formula. Similar was done for inserting images. There exists a third option: inserting a formula into a layout table. That is done by the autotext FN. I personally do not like it, because it is not possible to move paragraphs up and down with arrow keys across a table. In case you need a formula in own paragraph often, defining an own autotext for that might be a fourth option. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 142086] FORMATTING: Wrapping text around equations
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142086 --- Comment #9 from Dave --- That was a totally half-assed apology if it even was one, but I'll take it. :-) Let's be civil from here on out. I admire your volunteer spirit and the support you give to one of the most useful open-source/libre/free software applications I'm using. Let me take a moment to clarify my point. To me, the idea of a formula in a frame is a work around. And a kludgy one at best. Why? because it is different than the way text wraps around an image. Wrapping text around an image takes little if any thought. Right-click, properties. Oh, look! There's a tab for wrap. Done! Contrast that to wrapping text around a formula. Right-click, properties. Oh, look, there's a tab for wrap. What's this? All of the options are grayed out and unavailable for me to select. Well, this sucks. How am I supposed to wrap text around this [expletive deleted] formula. This is how I envision it working. Gee, I'd really like to wrap text around this formula so it doesn't spill out over multiple lines in a genuinely visually displeasing way. I've never done it before, but I've wrapped text around images. I wonder if its the same. Right-click, properties. Oh, look! There's a tab for wrap. And it works exactly like it does for images. Isn't that neat! I [expletive deleted] love LibreOffice! Honey, where's the checkbook? I'm making a donation. This is why I submitted the enhancement request. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

I can't tell you how many enhancement/bug report are for features that are already fully implemented in the project. If I were being snotty I would give you a "RTFM", but I try to be kind. If _no_ LO window had a proper icon, then that would be a reasonable suspicion. As for triviality - I disagree. It hampers usability and, when it manifests, it is highly noticeable, i.e. it doesn't happen only in some niche usage scenario. And you are constantly reminded of it. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 142086] FORMATTING: Wrapping text around equations
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142086 --- Comment #6 from Dave --- I agree the equation in a frame solves the text wrapping, but it alters the look of the equation. The result is shorter and more squat than the original. The equation cannot be resized to adjust this. There is a black border around the equation that cannot be removed. Also, the process of putting an equation in a container to be able to wrap text around it is not intuitive. Wrapping text around an image is intuitive. I would argue, for the sake of a consistent user interface this is still a valid enhancement request. Not high priority by any means, but it would make the user experience more consistent. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 142098] Calc: pasting comment clears cell contents
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142098 Martin Wilck changed: What|Removed |Added Ever confirmed|0 |1 Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED Resolution|NOTABUG |--- --- Comment #4 from Martin Wilck --- (Hi, I'm the person who reported this to Markéta on SUSE bugzilla). I can see that it's documented to work this way. But it makes no sense to me. Comments aren't cell contents. If nothing except "Comments" is activated below "Selection", why would the user also have to choose "Add", too? The expectation is that the comments and *only* the comments are pasted, otherwise the user would have selected at least one of the other "Selection" options besides "Comments", e.g. "Text" or "Numbers". And if this really is how "paste special" should behave, why isn't it the case for pasting "Formats"? In that case, users don't have to select "Add" to paste the formats and nothing else. This is inconsistent at least. Can you provide a rationale for this behavior? Not sure if this matters, but Excel doesn't require selecting "Add": https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/insert-comments-and-notes-in-excel-bdcc9f5d-38e2-45b4-9a92-0b2b5c7bf6f8#ID0EBACAAA=Windows https://www.extendoffice.com/documents/excel/1258-excel-copy-comments-from-cell-to-another.html (I can't test with Excel, because the only version I have is Excel/Web in o365, which doesn't have general "Paste special" functionality at all; same for Google Docs). The screenshot in the 2nd reference above suggests that, in Excel, the "Operation" selection is actually inactive / greyed out when "Comments" are selected only. I found another equally weird and possibly related issue: When pasting "Text" only into a cell which has a comment, the comment of the target cell (the one pasted into) is deleted. This is highly unexpected, at least by yours truly. Selecting "Add" doesn't change this behavior. Actually, I haven't figured out how to paste anything into a cell in LO 7.2 without destroying the existing comments on that cell (well, pasting "Formats" only seems to work). This definitely differs from the behavior of both Excel and Google Docs. If you think this is not a bug, please provide some convincing arguments. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

It works ok for me with the stock Bosnian IM under Fedora 34 GNOME and sequence like AltGr+1,a so I don't have a route to reproduce. So this isn't going to be consistent in every scenario, but it would cover the normal case - which should be good enough.] But this isn't good enough because IsNumRuleStart/SetNumRuleStart only affects pPaM->GetPoint() (the end of the selection), so instead we need to somehow step through the selection and check each para if it isNumRuleStart for a different numRule. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 142102] Header is hidden, if "small enough"
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142102 --- Comment #4 from Mike Kaganski --- (In reply to DarkTrick from comment #3) > Spacing / padding settings of header should be 0 by default, because: > > (1) Increasing it by hand on the page is easy and very intuitive Wrong. Vertical ruler is off by default. Additionally, you can't increase *spacing* using the ruler - only header height. And any manual adjustment there disables AutoFit Height setting, that is on by default, and allows people in general not bother about the height at all, while keeping the comfortable spacing. > (2) Reducing it is difficult. One has to know what to change ("spacing") and > how to change it (page style -> header -> Spacing). This only asks for a control on the vertical ruler to make it possible, not for changed defaults. > (3) By default the handling looks un-intuitive, because the "adjusted size" > (red arrow in the screenshot) is suggesting something different, than what > actually happens (characters are hidden) The non-0 spacing allows to have ... well, spacing between header text and text body. It is normal, and not having it would look unnatural. And actually the problem only appears when one tries to use the ruler to make direct changes, actually ruining all useful defaults and automation, thus no defaults would be good. Note that both OnlyOffice and MS Word (both based on the same document model) use completely different page model compared to Writer, so no direct comparison is useful. If someone wants a different default, it's easy to create a custom template, and set it the default.
